The goal of this message is to calculate radiative corrections to the Sommerfeld fine structure constant in the framework of a new QED in which particles are described by bilocal fields. The bare constant is 1/136 where 136 is a dimension of the dynamical group of the bihamiltonian system underlying the suggested elementary particle theory. Our calculations in the second order of perturbation theory give the renormalized Sommerfeld constant 1/137.0345. We believe the difference (137.0359 - 137.0345) between corresponding experimental and theoretical values may be understood as corrections of the fourth order.
Quantum parity conservation is verified at all orders in perturbation theory for a massless parity-even $U(1)\times U(1)$ planar quantum electrodynamics (QED$_3$) model. The presence of two massless fermions requires the Lowenstein-Zimmermann (LZ) subtraction scheme, in the framework of the Bogoliubov-Parasiuk-Hepp-Zimmermann-Lowenstein (BPHZL) renormalization method, in order to subtract the infrared divergences induced by the ultraviolet subtractions at 1- and 2-loops, however thanks to the superrenormalizability of the model the ultraviolet divergences are bounded up to 2-loops. Finally, it…
Extracting the Hamiltonian of interacting quantum-information processing systems is a keystone problem in the realization of complex phenomena and large-scale quantum computers. The remarkable growth of the field increasingly requires precise, widely-applicable, and modular methods that can model the quantum electrodynamics of the physical circuits, and even of their more-subtle renormalization effects. Here, we present a computationally-efficient method satisfying these criteria. The method partitions a quantum device into compact lumped or quasi-distributed cells. Each is first simulated ind…
Quantum correlations between distant particles remain enigmatic since the birth of quantum mechanics. Here we predict a novel kind of bound quantum state in the simplest one-dimensional setup of two interacting particles in a box. Paradoxically, two entangled particles become localized at the opposite edges of the box even though their interactions at large distance should seemingly play no role. Such states could be realized in the waveguide quantum electrodynamics platform, where an array of superconducting qubits or cold atoms is coupled to a waveguide. We demonstrate how long-range wavegui…
In electrostatics, we can use either potential energy or field energy to ensure conservation of energy. In electrodynamics, the former option is unavailable. To ensure conservation of energy, we must attribute energy to the electromagnetic field and, in particular, to electromagnetic radiation. If we adopt the standard energy density for the electromagnetic field, then potential energy seems to disappear. However, a closer look at electrodynamics shows that this conclusion actually depends on the kind of matter being considered. Although we cannot get by without attributing energy to the elect…
