The geometric phases of the cyclic states of a generalized harmonic oscillator with nonadiabatic time-periodic parameters are discussed in the framework of squeezed state. It is shown that the cyclic and quasicyclic squeezed states correspond to the periodic and quasiperiodic solutions of an effective Hamiltonian defined on an extended phase space, respectively. The geometric phase of the cyclic squeezed state is found to be a phase-space area swept out by a periodic orbit. Furthermore, a class of cyclic states are expressed as a superposition of an infinte number of squeezed states. Their geometric phases are found to be independent of $\hbar$, and equal to $-(n+1/2)$ times the classical nonadiabatic Hannay angle.
Fast quantum spin manipulation is needed to design spin-based quantum logic gates and other quantum applications. Here, we construct exact evolution operator of the nitrogen-vacancy-center (NV) spin in diamond under external magnetic fields and investigate the nonadiabatic geometric phases, both cyclic and non-cyclic, in these fast-manipulated NV spin systems. It is believed that the nonadiabatic geometric phases can be measured in future experiments and these fast quantum manipulations can be useful in designing spin-based quantum applications.
The main challenges in achieving high-fidelity quantum gates are to reduce the influence of control errors caused by imperfect Hamiltonians and the influence of decoherence caused by environment noise. To overcome control errors, a promising proposal is nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation, which has attracted much attention in both theories and experiments. While the merit of holonomic operations resisting control errors has been well exploited, an important issue following is how to shorten the evolution time needed for realizing a holonomic gate so as to avoid the influence of environ…
We show that the adiabatic approximation for nonselfadjoint hamiltonians seems to induce two non-equal expressions for the geometric phase. The first one is related to the spectral projector involved in the adiabatic theorem, the other one is the adiabatic limit of the nonadiabatic geometric phase. This apparent inconsistency is resolved by observing that the difference between the two expressions is compensated by a small deviation in the dynamical phases.
Because of using geometric phases, nonadiabatic geometric gates have the robustness against control errors. On the other hand, decoherence still affects nonadiabatic geometric gates, which is a key factor in reducing their fidelities. In this paper, we show that based on the system Hamiltonian that realizes a nonadiabatic geometric gate, one may construct a new system Hamiltonian, by using which not only the geometric feature of the nonadiabatic geometric gate is preserved, but also the system's coherence is protected. As a result, a coherence-protected nonadiabatic geometric gate is realized …
Ising spin Hamiltonians are often used to encode a computational problem in their ground states. Quantum Annealing (QA) computing searches for such a state by implementing a slow time-dependent evolution from an easy-to-prepare initial state to a low energy state of a target Ising Hamiltonian of quantum spins, $H_I$. Here, we point to the existence of an analytical solution for such a problem for an arbitrary $H_I$ beyond the adiabatic limit for QA. This solution provides insights into the accuracy of nonadiabatic computations. Our QA protocol in the pseudo-adiabatic regime leads to a monotoni…
We propose a simple but versatile protocol to engineer time-dependent Hamiltonians inversely for geometric quantum computation. By utilizing SU(2) transformation, a speedup goal on gate operation is achieved with more freedom to design the control parameters. As an application, this protocol enables the conventional and unconventional nonadiabatic geometric quantum gates with desired evolution paths by controlling the microwave pulses in the diamond nitrogen-vacancy center system. We show that the inversely designed Hamiltonian can fulfill the geometric gate with more economical evolution time…
Nonadiabatic geometric phases are only dependent on the evolution path of a quantum system but independent of the evolution details, and therefore quantum computation based on nonadiabatic geometric phases is robust against control errors. To realize nonadiabatic geometric quantum computation, it is necessary to ensure that the quantum system undergoes a cyclic evolution and the dynamical phases are removed from the total phases. To satisfy these conditions, the evolution paths in previous schemes are usually restricted to some special forms, e.g, orange-slice-shaped loops, which make the path…
The Hamiltonian action of a Lie group on a symplectic manifold induces a momentum map generalizing Noether's conserved quantity occurring in the case of a symmetry group. Then, when a Hamiltonian function can be written in terms of this momentum map, the Hamiltonian is called `collective'. Here, we derive collective Hamiltonians for a series of models in quantum molecular dynamics for which the Lie group is the composition of smooth invertible maps and unitary transformations. In this process, different fluid descriptions emerge from different factorization schemes for either the wavefunction …
Diabatization of the molecular Hamiltonian is a standard approach to removing the singularities of nonadiabatic couplings at conical intersections of adiabatic potential energy surfaces. In general, it is impossible to eliminate the nonadiabatic couplings entirely -- the resulting "quasidiabatic" states are still coupled by smaller but nonvanishing residual nonadiabatic couplings, which are typically neglected. Here, we propose a general method for assessing the validity of this potentially drastic approximation by comparing quantum dynamics simulated either with or without the residual coupli…
Kramers degeneracy theorem is one of the basic results in quantum mechanics. According to it, the time-reversal symmetry makes each energy level of a half-integer spin system at least doubly degenerate, meaning the absence of transitions or scatterings between degenerate states if the Hamiltonian does not depend on time explicitly. We generalize this result to the case of explicitly time-dependent spin Hamiltonians. We prove that for a spin system with the total spin being a half integer, if its Hamiltonian and the evolution time interval are symmetric under a specifically defined time reversa…
Nonadiabatic dynamical processes are one of the most important quantum mechanical phenomena in chemical, materials, biological, and environmental molecular systems, where the coupling between different electronic states is either inherent in the molecular structure or induced by the (intense) external field. The curse of dimensionality indicates the intractable exponential scaling of calculation effort with system size and restricts the implementation of numerically exact approaches for realistic large systems. The phase space formulation of quantum mechanics offers an important theoretical fr…
Nonadiabatic geometric quantum computation (NGQC) has been developed to realize fast and robust geometric gate. However, the conventional NGQC is that all of the gates are performed with exactly the sameamount of time, whether the geometric rotation angle is large or small, due to the limitation of cyclic condition. Here, we propose an unconventional scheme, called nonadiabatic noncyclic geometric quantum computation(NNGQC), that arbitrary single- and two-qubit geometric gate can be constructed via noncyclic non-Abeliangeometric phase. Consequently, this scheme makes it possible to accelerate …

We investigate both pure and mixed states Floquet dynamical quantum phase transition (DQPT) in the periodically time-dependent extended XY model. We exactly show that the proposed Floquet Hamiltonian of interacting spins can be expressed as a sum of noninteracting quasi-spins imposed by an effective time dependent magnetic field (Schwinger-Rabi model). The calculated Chern number indicates that there is a topological transition from nonadiabatic to adiabatic regime. In the adiabatic regime, the quasi-spins trace the time dependent effective magnetic field and then oscillate between spin up and…
We consider nonadiabatic transitions in explicitly time-dependent systems with Hamiltonians of the form $\hat{H}(t) = \hat{A} +\hat{B} t + \hat{C}/t$, where $t$ is time and $\hat{A}$, $\hat{B}$, $\hat{C}$ are Hermitian $N\times N$ matrices. We show that in any model of this type, scattering matrix elements satisfy nontrivial exact constraints that follow from the absence of the Stokes phenomenon for solutions with specific conditions at $t \rightarrow -\infty$. This allows one to continue such solutions analytically to $t \rightarrow +\infty$, and connect their asymptotic behavior at $t \right…
We consider the nonadiabatic energy fluctuations of a many-body system in a time-dependent harmonic trap. In the presence of scale-invariance, the dynamics becomes self-similar and the nondiabatic energy fluctuations can be found in terms of the initial expectation values of the second moments of the Hamiltonian, square position, and squeezing operators. Nonadiabatic features are expressed in terms of the scaling factor governing the size of the atomic cloud, which can be extracted from time-of-flight images. We apply this exact relation to a number of examples: the single-particle harmonic os…

We demonstrate that the general model of a linearly time-dependent crossing of two energy bands is integrable. Namely, the Hamiltonian of this model has a quadratically time-dependent commuting operator. We apply this property to four-state Landau-Zener (LZ) models that have previously been used to describe the Landau-Stückelberg interferometry experiments with an electron shuttling between two semiconductor quantum dots. The integrability then leads to simple but nontrivial exact relations for the transition probabilities. In addition, the integrability leads to a semiclassical theory that pr…
Nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation provides the means to perform fast and robust quantum gates by utilizing the resilience of non-Abelian geometric phases to fluctuations of the path in state space. While the original scheme [New J. Phys. {\bf 14}, 103035 (2012)] needs two loops in the Grassmann manifold (i.e., the space of computational subspaces of the full state space) to generate an arbitrary holonomic one-qubit gate, we propose single-loop one-qubit gates that constitute an efficient universal set of holonomic gates when combined with an entangling holonomic two-qubit gate. Our on…

We investigate geometric phase (GP) effects in nonadiabatic transitions through a conical intersection (CI) in an N-dimensional linear vibronic coupling (ND-LVC) model. This model allows for the coordinate transformation encompassing all nonadiabatic effects within a two-dimensional (2D) subsystem while the other N-2 dimensions form a system of uncoupled harmonic oscillators identical for both electronic states and coupled bi-linearly with the subsystem coordinates. The 2D subsystem governs ultra-fast nonadiabatic dynamics through the CI and provides a convenient model for studying GP effects.…
We revisit a recent proposal to model nonadiabatic problems with a complex-valued Hamiltonian through a phase-space surface hopping (PSSH) algorithm employing a pseudo-diabatic basis. Here, we show that such a pseudo-diabatic PSSH (PD-PSSH) ansatz is consistent with a quantum-classical Liouville equation (QCLE) that can be derived following a preconditioning process, and we demonstrate that a proper PD-PSSH algorithm is able to capture some geometric magnetic effects (whereas the standard FSSH approach cannot). We also find that a preconditioned QCLE can outperform the standard QCLE in certain…
We propose a method to produce fast transitionless dynamics for finite-dimensional quantum systems without requiring additional Hamiltonian components not included in the initial control setup, remaining close to the true adiabatic path at all times. The strategy is based on the introduction of an effective counterdiabatic scheme: a correcting Hamiltonian is constructed which approximatively cancels nonadiabatic effects, inducing an evolution tracking the adiabatic states closely. This can be absorbed into the initial Hamiltonian by adding a fast oscillation in the control parameters. We show …
We decompose the quantum adiabatic evolution as the products of gauge invariant unitary operators and obtain the exact nonadiabatic correction in the adiabatic approximation. A necessary and sufficient condition that leads to adiabatic evolution with geometric phases is provided and we determine that in the adiabatic evolution, while the eigenstates are slowly varying, the eigenenergies and degeneracy of the Hamiltonian can change rapidly. We exemplify this result by the example of the adiabatic evolution driven by parametrized pulse sequences. For driving fields that are rotating slowly with …
