We derive an upper bound on the action of a direct product of two quantum maps (channels) acting on multi-partite quantum states. We assume that the individual channels $Λ_j$ affect single-particle states so, that for an arbitrary input $ρ_j$, the distance $D_j (Λ_j [ ρ_j ], ρ_j)$ between the input $ρ_j$ and the output $Λ_j [ ρ_j ]$ of the channel is less than $ε$. Given this assumption we show that for an arbitrary {\em separable} two-partite state $ρ_{12}$ the distance between the input $ρ_{12}$ and the output $Λ_1\otimesΛ_2[ρ_{12} ]$ fulfills the bound $D_{12} (Λ_1 \otimes Λ_2 [ ρ_{12} ], ρ_{12}) \leq \sqrt{2+ 2 \sqrt{(1-1/d_1)(1-1/d_2)}} ε$ where $d_1$ and $d_2$ are dimensions of first and second quantum system respectively. On the contrary, entangled states are transformed in such a way, that the bound on the action of the local channels is $D_{12} (Λ_1 \otimes Λ_2 [ ρ_{12} ], ρ_{12}) \leq 2 \sqrt{2 - 1/d} \: ε$, where $d$ is the dimension of the smaller of the two quantum systems passing through the channels. Our results show that the fundamental distinction between the set of separable and the set of entangled states results into two different bounds which in turn can be exploited for a discrimination between the two sets of states. We generalize our results to multi-partite channels.
We study the possibility of reversing an action of a quantum channel. Our principal objective is to find a specific channel that reverses as accurately as possible an action of a given quantum channel. To achieve this goal we use semidefinite programming. We show the benefits of our method using the quantum pseudo-telepathy Magic Square game with noise. Our strategy is to move the pseudo-telepathy region to higher noise values. We show that it is possible to reverse the action of a noise channel using semidefinite programming.
Quantum Fisher information (QFI) has potential applications in quantum metrology tasks. We investigate QFI when the consecutive actions of a quantum channel on the sequence of qubits have partial classical correlations. Our results showed that while the decoherence effect is detrimental to QFI, effects of such classical correlations on QFI are channel-dependent. For the Bell-type probe states, the classical correlations on consecutive actions of the depolarizing and phase flip channels can be harnessed to improve QFI, while the classical correlations in the bit flip and bit-phase flip channels…
We analyze how a maximally entangled state of two-qubits (e.g., the singlet $ψ_s$) is affected by action of local channels described by completely positive maps $\cE$ . We analyze the concurrence and the purity of states $\varrho_\cE=\cE\otimes\cI[ψ_s]$.Using the concurrence-{\it vs}-purity phase diagram we characterize local channels $\cE$ by their action on the singlet state $ψ_s$. We specify a region of the concurrence-{\it vs.}-purity diagram that is achievable from the singlet state via the action of unital channels. We show that even most general (including non-unital) local channels act…
We study the combined counting statistics of two capacitively coupled transport channels. In particular, we examine the conditions necessary for utilizing one channel as detector sensitive to the occupation of the other. A good detector fidelity may be achieved in a bistable regime when the tunneling rates through the two channels are vastly different -- even when the physical back-action of the detector on the probed channel is large. Our methods allow to estimate the error of charge counting detectors from time-resolved current measurements -- which have been obtained in recent experiments -…
We show that the quantum discord and the measurement induced non-locality (MiN) in a bipartite quantum state is invariant under the action of a local quantum channel if and only if the channel is invertible. In particular, these quantities are invariant under a local unitary channel.
A model of a quantum measurement process is presented: a system consisting of a qubit in a superposition interacts with a measuring apparatus consisting of a N qubit state. Looking at the emerging, effective description of the apparatus given by the action of a coarse-graining channel, we have been able to recover information about the superposition coefficients of the system. We have also been able to visualize the death of quantum correlations between system and apparatus and the death of quantum coherences in the apparatus' effective state, in the limit of a strong coarse-graining action - a…
What are the quantum laws of electricity in mesoscopic circuits? This very fundamental question has also direct implications for the quantum engineering of nanoelectronic devices. Indeed, when a quantum coherent conductor is inserted into a circuit, its transport properties are modified. In particular, its conductance is reduced because of the circuit back-action. This phenomenon, called environmental Coulomb blockade, results from the granularity of charge transfers across the coherent conductor. Although extensively studied for a tunnel junction in a linear circuit, it is only fully understo…
We investigate the time evolution of the entanglement of assistance when one subsystem undergoes the action of local noisy channels. A general factorization law is presented for the evolution equation of entanglement of assistance. Our results demonstrate that the dynamics of the entanglement of assistance is determined by the action of a noisy channel on the pure maximally entangled state, in which the entanglement reduction turns out to be universal for all quantum states entering the channel. This single quantity will make it easy to characterize the entanglement dynamics of entanglement of…
We address the question of optimality of entangled input states in quantum Gaussian memory channels. For a class of such channels, that can be traced back to the memoryless setting, we state a criterion which relate the optimality of entangled inputs to the symmetry properties of the channels' action. Several examples of channel models belonging to this class are discussed.
We prove a theorem on direct relation between the optimal fidelity $f_{max}$ of teleportation and the maximal singlet fraction $F_{max}$ attainable by means of trace-preserving LQCC action (local quantum and classical communication). For a given bipartite state acting on $C^d\otimes C^d$ we have $f_{max}= {F_{max}d+1\over d+1}$. We assume completely general teleportation scheme (trace preserving LQCC action over the pair and the third particle in unknown state). The proof involves the isomorphism between quantum channels and a class of bipartite states. We also exploit the technique of $U\otim…
In this paper we find, for a class of bipartite quantum states, a nontrivial lower bound on the entropy gain resulting from the action of a tensor product of identity channel with an arbitrary channel. By means of that we then estimate (from below) the output entropy of the tensor product of dephasing channel with an arbitrary channel. Finally, we provide a characterization of all phase-damping channels resulting as particular cases of dephasing channels.
We explore how entanglement of a general bipartite system evolves when one subsystem undergoes the action of an arbitrary noisy channel. It is found that the dynamics of entanglement for general bipartite systems under the influence of such channel is determined by the channel's action on the maximally entangled state, which includes as a special case the results for two-qubit systems [Nature Physics 4, 99 (2008)]. In particular, for multi-qubit or qubit-qudit systems, we get a general factorization law for evolution equation of entanglement with one qubit being subject to a noisy channel. Our…
The entropic and information inequalities for two qubit X-states transformed by the nonlinear channels are given in explicit form. The subadditivity condition and nonnegativity of von Neumann quantum information are studied for both initial X-state and the state after action of the nonlinear channel. Partial case of Werner state is considered in detail. We shown that the von Neumann information increases due to action of the nonlinear channel. We generalize the results obtained for Werner state in our earlier article [J. Russ. Laser Res., \textbf{35}, iss. 3 (2014)] to the case of X-state of t…
The set of quantum Gaussian channels acting on one bosonic mode can be classified according to the action of the group of Gaussian unitaries. We look for bounds on the classical capacity for channels belonging to such a classification. Lower bounds can be efficiently calculated by restricting to Gaussian encodings, for which we provide analytical expressions.
Recently, there have been considerable progresses on the bounds of various quantum channel capacities for bosonic Gaussian channels. Especially, several upper bounds for the classical capacity and the quantum capacity on the bosonic Gaussian channels, via a technique known as quantum entropy power inequality, have been shed light on understanding the mysterious quantum-channel-capacity problems. However, upper bounds for the private capacity on quantum channels are still missing for the study on certain universal upper bounds. Here, we derive upper bounds on the private capacity for bosonic Ga…
By using a fully quantum approach based on an input-output formulation of the stochastic Schrödinger equation, we show rectification of radiation fields in a one-dimensional waveguide doped with a pair of ideal two-level systems for three topical cases: classical driving, under the action of noise, and single photon pulsed excitation. We show that even under the constant action of unwanted noise the device still operates effectively as an optical isolator, which is of critical importance for noise resistance. Finally, harnessing stimulated emission allows for non-reciprocal behavior for single…
In this paper we study diagonal quantum channels and their structure by proving some results and giving most applicable instances of them. Firstly, it is shown that action of every diagonal quantum channel on pure state from computational basis is a convex combination of pure states determined by some transition probabilities. Finally, by using the Cholesky decomposition it is presented an algorithmic method to find an explicit form for Kraus operators of diagonal quantum channels.
We prove an upper bound on the private capacity of the single-mode noiseless bosonic wiretap channel. Combined with a previous lower bound, we obtain the low photon-number asymptotic expression for the private capacity. We then show that the multiple-mode noiseless bosonic wiretap channel is equivalent to parallel single-mode channels, hence the single-mode bounds can be applied. Finally, we consider multiple-spatial-mode propagation through atmospheric turbulence, and derive a private-capacity lower bound that only requires second moments of the channel matrix.
Classical capacity of unital qubit channels is well known, whereas that of nonunital qubit channels is not. We find lower and upper bounds on classical capacity of nonunital qubit channels by using a recently developed decomposition technique relating nonunital and unital positive qubit maps.
We address the problem of optimally approximating the action of a desired and unavailable quantum channel $Φ$ having at our disposal a single use of a given set of other channels $\{Ψ_i \}$. The problem is recast to look for the least distinguishable channel from $Φ$ among the convex set $\sum_i p_i Ψ_i$, and the corresponding optimal weights $\{ p_i \}$ provide the optimal convex mixing of the available channels $\{Ψ_i \}$. For single-qubit channels we study specifically the cases where the available convex set corresponds to covariant channels or to Pauli channels, and the desired target map…
The maximum rates for information transmission through noisy quantum channels has primarily been developed for memoryless channels, where the noise on each transmitted state is treated as independent. Many real world communication channels experience noise which is modelled better by errors that are correlated between separate channel uses. In this paper, upper bounds on the classical information capacities of a class of quantum memory channels are derived. The class of channels consists of indecomposable quantum memory channels, a generalization of classical indecomposable finite-state channe…
We analyze how entanglement between two components of a bipartite system behaves under the action of local channels of the form $\cE\otimes\cI$. We show that a set of maximally entangled states is by the action of $\cE\otimes\cI$ transformed into the set of states that exhibit the same degree of entanglement. Moreover, this degree represents an upper bound on entanglement that is available at the output of the channel irrespective what is the input state of the composite system. We show that within this bound the the entanglement-induced state ordering is ``relative'' and can be changed by the…
Quantum temporal correlations exhibited by violations of Leggett-Garg Inequality (LGI) and Temporal Steering Inequality (TSI) are in general found to be non-increasing under decoherence channels when probed on two-qubit pure entangled states. We study the action of decoherence channels, such as amplitude damping, phase-damping and depolarising channels when partial memory is introduced in a way such that two consecutive uses of the channels are time-correlated. We show that temporal correlations demonstrated by violations of the above temporal inequalities can be protected against decoherence …
We propose a method to detect lower bounds to quantum capacities of a noisy quantum communication channel by means of few measurements. The method is easily implementable and does not require any knowledge about the channel. We test its efficiency by studying its performance for most well known single qubit noisy channels and for the generalised Pauli channel in arbitrary finite dimension.
The Hodgkin-Huxley model describes the conduction of the nervous impulse through the axon, whose membrane's electric response can be described employing multiple connected electric circuits containing capacitors, voltage sources, and conductances. These conductances depend on previous depolarizing membrane voltages, which can be identified with a memory resistive element called memristor. Inspired by the recent quantization of the memristor, a simplified Hodgkin-Huxley model including a single ion channel has been studied in the quantum regime. Here, we study the quantization of the complete H…
A generalization of the Choi-Jamiolkowski isomorphism for completely positive maps between operator algebras is introduced. Particular emphasis is placed on the case of normal unital completely positive maps defined between von Neumann algebras. This generalization is applied especially to the study of maps which are covariant under actions of a symmetry group. We highlight with the example of, e.g., phase-shift-covariant quantum channels the ease of this method in particular in the case of a compact symmetry group. We also discuss the case of channels which are covariant under actions of the …

Generalized relative entropy, monotone Riemannian metrics, geodesic distance, and trace distance are all known to decrease under the action of quantum channels. We give some new bounds on, and relationships between, the maximal contraction for these quantities.
We investigate the action of the depolarising (qubit) channel on permutation invariant input states. More specifically, we raise the question on which invariant subspaces the output of the depolarising channel, given such special input, is supported. An answer is given for equidistributed states on isotypical subspaces, also called symmetric Werner states. Horns problem and two of the corresponding inequalities are invoked as a method of proof.
The tight, in a sense, lower estimates of diamond-norm distance from a given quantum channel to the sets of degradable, antidegradable and entanglement-breaking channels are obtained via the tight continuity bounds for quantum mutual information and for relative entropy of entanglement in finite-dimensional case. As an auxiliary result there are established lower bounds of trace-norm distance from a given bipartite state to the set of all separable states.
We investigate minimum output (Rényi) entropy of qubit channels and unital quantum channels. We obtain an exact formula for the minimum output entropy of qubit channels, and bounds for unital quantum channels. Interestingly, our bounds depend only on the operator norm of the matrix representation of the channels on the space of trace-less Hermitian operators. Moreover, since these bounds respect tensor products, we get bounds for the capacity of unital quantum channels, which is saturated by the Werner-Holevo channel. Furthermore, we construct an orthonormal basis, besides the Gell-Mann basis,…
In this paper, lower bounds on error probability in coding for discrete classical and classical-quantum channels are studied. The contribution of the paper goes in two main directions: i) extending classical bounds of Shannon, Gallager and Berlekamp to classical-quantum channels, and ii) proposing a new framework for lower bounding the probability of error of channels with a zero-error capacity in the low rate region. The relation between these two problems is revealed by showing that Lovász' bound on zero-error capacity emerges as a natural consequence of the sphere packing bound once we move…
We establish several upper bounds on the energy-constrained quantum and private capacities of all single-mode phase-insensitive bosonic Gaussian channels. The first upper bound, which we call the "data-processing bound," is the simplest and is obtained by decomposing a phase-insensitive channel as a pure-loss channel followed by a quantum-limited amplifier channel. We prove that the data-processing bound can be at most 1.45 bits larger than a known lower bound on these capacities of the phase-insensitive Gaussian channel. We discuss another data-processing upper bound as well. Two other upper …
