The stability of entanglement of two atoms in a cavity is analyzed in this work. By studying the general Werner states we clarify the role of Bell-singlet state in the problem of suppression of disentanglement due to spontaneous emission. It is also shown explicitly that the final amount of entanglement depends on the initial ingredients of the Bell-singlet state.
Dynamics of disentanglement as measured by the tripartite negativity and Bell nonlocality as measured by the extent of violation of the multipartite Bell-type inequalities are investigated in this work. It is shown definitively that for the initial three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) or {\it W} class state preparation the Bell nonlocality suffers sudden death under the influence of thermal reservoirs. Moreover, all the Bell-nonlocal states are useful for nonclassical teleportation, while there are entangled states that do not violate any Bell-type inequalities, but still yield noncla…
For the case of two spin-1/2 particles in the singlet state, we provide a GHZ-type proof of Bell's theorem by using the idea of postselected measurements. Furthermore, we show that in spite of the low efficiency of the detectors one can derive an inequality in the case of real experiments which is violated by quantum mechanics.
Three classes of local hidden-variable models that violate both Bell and Leggett inequalities are presented. The models, however, do not reproduce the quantum mechanical predictions, hence they are experimentally testable. It is concluded that on one hand neither Bell or Leggett inequality fully captures the essential counterintuitiveness of quantum mechanics, while on the other hand the hypothesis of outcome independence and that of locality are uncorrelated.
The decoherence of two initially entangled qubits in a squeezed vacuum cavity has been investigated exactly. The results show that, first, in principle, the disentanglement time decreases with the increasing of squeeze parameter r, due to the augmenting of average photon number of every mode in squeezed vacuum cavity. Second, there are entanglement revivals after complete disentanglement for the case of even parity initial Bell state, while there are entanglement decrease and revival before complete disentanglement for the case of odd parity initial Bell state. The results are quite different …
Can a Bell test with no detection loophole be demonstrated for multi-photon entangled states of light within the current technology? We examine the possibility of a postselection-free CHSH-Bell inequality test wih an unsymmetrical polarization singlet. To that end we employ a preselection procedure which is performed prior to the test. It allows using imperfect (coarse-grained) binary photodetection in the test. We show an example of preselection scheme which improves violation of the CHSH inequality with the micro-macro polarization singlet produced by the optimal quantum cloning. The presele…
We discuss here the best disentanglement processes of states of two two-level systems which belong to (i) the universal set, (ii) the set in which the states of one party lie on a single great circle of the Bloch sphere, and (iii) the set in which the states of one party commute with each other, by teleporting the states of one party (on which the disentangling machine is acting) through three particular type of separable channels, each of which is a mixture of Bell states. In the general scenario, by teleporting one party's state of an arbitrary entangled state of two two-level parties throug…
We in this Letter derive analytic formulas of Bell correlations in terms of quantum probability statistics under the assumption of measuring outcome-independence. For a spin-1/2 singlet state we find analytically that the violations of Bell-type inequalities are really related to the quantum non-local correlations. However, the Bell and Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequalities are always satisfied for the spin-1 singlet states. More generally the quantum non-locality does not lead to the violation of Bell and CHSH inequalities for the integer-spin singlet since the non-local interference…
Assuming that quantum mechanics is obeyed exactly after averaging over hidden variables, and considering models that obey both the hypotheses of free will and locality, we establish the form of all possible hidden-variable models that reproduce the spin-singlet.
We study the dynamics of disentanglement of two qubits initially prepared in a Bell state and coupled at different sites to an Ising transverse field spin chain (ITF) playing the role of a dynamic spin environment. The initial state of the whole system is prepared into a tensor product state $ρ_{Bell}\otimes ρ_{chain}$ where the state of the chain is taken to be given by the ground state $|G(λ_i)\rangle$ of the ITF Hamiltonian $H_E(λ_i)$ with an initial field $λ_i$. At time $t=0^+$, the strength of the transverse field is suddenly quenched to a new value $λ_f$ and the whole system (chain $+$ q…
Recently an alternative way to quantify Bell nonlocality has been proposed [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 92}, 030101(R) (2015)]. In this work we further develop this concept, the volume of violation, and analytically calculate its value for the spin-singlet state with respect to the settings of the first Bell's inequality. These settings correspond to three directions in space, or three arbitrary points on the unit sphere. It is shown that the triples of directions that lead to violations in local causality correspond to $1/3$ of all possible configurations. From the perspective of quantum communications…
Contemporary versions of Bell's argument against local hidden variable (LHV) theories are based on the Clauser Horne Shimony and Holt (CHSH) inequality, and various attempts to generalize it. The amount of violation of these inequalities cannot exceed the bound set by the Grothendieck constants. However, if we go back to the original derivation by Bell, and use the perfect anti-correlation embodied in the singlet spin state, we can go beyond these bounds. In this paper we derive two-particle Bell inequalities for traceless two-outcome observables, whose violation in the singlet spin state go b…
Entangled qubit pairs can serve as a quantum memory or as a resource for quantum communication. The utility of such pairs is measured by how long they take to disentangle or decohere. To answer the question of whether qubit-qubit interactions can prolong entanglement, we calculate the dissipative dynamics of a pair of qubits coupled via the exchange interaction in the presence of random telegraph noise and $1/f$ noise. We show that for maximally entangled (Bell) states, the exchange interaction generally suppresses decoherence and disentanglement. This suppression is more apparent for random t…
The essence of Bell's theorem is that, in general, quantum statistics cannot be reproduced by local hidden variable (LHV) model. This impossibility is strongly manifested while analyzing the singlet state statistics for Bell-CHSH violations. In this work, we provide various subsets of two outcome POVMs for which a local hidden variable model can be constructed for singlet state.
We investigate the stationary entanglement and stationary nonlocality of two qubits collectively interacting with a common thermal environment. We assume two qubits are initially in Werner state or Werner-like state, and find that thermal environment can make two qubits become stationary nonlocality. The analytical relations among average thermal photon number of the environment, entanglement and nonlocality of two qubits are given in details. It is shown that the fraction of Bell singlet state plays a key role in the phenomenon that the common thermal reservoir can enhance the entanglement of…
We investigate the quantum decoherence of frequency and polarization variables of photons via polarization mode dispersion in optical fibers. By observing the analogy between the propagation equation of the field and the Schrödinger equation, we develop a master equation under Markovian approximation and analytically solve for the field density matrix. We identify distinct decay behaviors for the polarization and frequency variables for single-photon and two-photon states. For the single photon case, purity functions indicate that complete decoherence for each variable is possible only for inf…
We review the computation of correlations of successive projections of the spin onto axes for spin-1/2 particles and EPRB pairs (in the Singlet state). We assume forms of Realism (at least as general as the Predictive Hidden Variables in the classical Bell's Theory), to review one particle correlations before we further assume Locality and analyze EPRB pairs. To our surprise, we find that the Abstract Bell Inequalities with three or four axes cannot have physical meaning i.e., two spin projections cannot belong to one particle or some correlations that one would need cannot be evaluated. A rec…
We analyze how a maximally entangled state of two-qubits (e.g., the singlet $ψ_s$) is affected by action of local channels described by completely positive maps $\cE$ . We analyze the concurrence and the purity of states $\varrho_\cE=\cE\otimes\cI[ψ_s]$.Using the concurrence-{\it vs}-purity phase diagram we characterize local channels $\cE$ by their action on the singlet state $ψ_s$. We specify a region of the concurrence-{\it vs.}-purity diagram that is achievable from the singlet state via the action of unital channels. We show that even most general (including non-unital) local channels act…
The experimental violation of Bell inequality establishes necessary but not sufficient conditions that any theory must obey. Namely, a theory compatible with the experimental observations can satisfy at most two of the three hypotheses at the basis of Bell's theorem: free will, no-signaling, and outcome-Independence. Quantum mechanics satisfies the first two hypotheses but not the latter. Experiments not only violate Bell inequality, but show an excellent agreement with quantum mechanics. This fact restricts further the class of admissible theories. In this work, the author determines the form…
The derivation of Bell inequalities requires an assumption of measurement independence, related to the amount of free will experimenters have in choosing measurement settings. Violation of these inequalities by singlet state correlations, as has been experimentally observed, brings this assumption into question. A simple measure of the degree of measurement independence is defined for correlation models, and it is shown that all spin correlations of a singlet state can be modeled via giving up a fraction of just 14% of measurement independence. The underlying model is deterministic and no-sign…
We discuss two new demonstrations of the Bell-Kochen-Specker theorem: a state-independent proof using 14 four-dimensional propositions, based on a suggestion made by Clifton, and a state-specific proof involving 5 propositions on the singlet state of two spin-1/2 particles.
The singlet state of two spin-3/2 particles allows a proof of Bell's theorem without inequalities with two distinguishing features: any local observable can be regarded as an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen element of reality, and the contradiction with local realism occurs not only for some specific local observables but for any rotation whereof.
We present a review of recent research on quantum entanglement, with special emphasis on entanglement between single atoms, processing of an encoded entanglement and its temporary evolution. Analysis based on the density matrix formalism are described. We give a simple description of the entangling procedure and explore the role of the environment in creation of entanglement and in disentanglement of atomic systems. A particular process we will focus on is spontaneous emission, usually recognized as an irreversible loss of information and entanglement encoded in the internal states of the syst…
For a special stochastic realistic model in certain spin-correlation experiments and without imposing the locality condition, an inequality is found. Then, it is shown that quantum theory is able (is possible) to violate this inequality. This shows that, irrelevance of the locality condition, the quantum entanglement of the spin singlet-state is the reason for the violation of Bell's inequality in Bell's theorem.
We study polarization properties of the macroscopic analogues of two-photon Bell states. The effect of hidden polarization, i.e., polarization in the second (and higher) orders in the intensity is observed for the triplet states while the singlet one is demonstrated to be nearly unpolarized at least up to the fourth order. The arbitrary-order degree of polarization is introduced and applied to the macroscopic Bell states.
Models of quantum disentanglement are developed for nanometer-scale molecular charge qubits (MCQs). Two MCQs, $A$ and $B$, are prepared in a Bell state and separated for negligible $A$-$B$ interactions. Interactions between the local environment and each MCQ unravels $A$-$B$ entanglement during coherent system+environment evolution. Three models are used for dynamics: (1) a previously-developed, numerical model, in which both $AB$ and environment $\mathcal{E}$ are modeled explicitly; (2) an exact, semi-analytic model, in which only the dynamics of $AB$ are calculated, and (3) an approximate mo…
We propose a Bell measurement free scheme to implement a quantum repeater in GaAs/AlGa double qunatum dot systems.we prove the four pairs of double quantum dots compose an entanglement unit, given the the initial state is singlet states. Our shceme differs from the famous Duan-Lukin-Cirac-zoller(DLCZ) protocol in that Bell measurements are unneccessary for the entanglement swapping, which provides great advantages and conveniences in experimental implementaion. Our scheme significantly improve the success probability of quantum repeaters based on solid state quantum devices.
Bell inequalities or Bell-like experiments are supposed to test hidden variable theories based on three intuitive assumptions: determinism, locality and measurement independence. If one of the assumptions of Bell inequality is properly relaxed, the probability distribution of the singlet state, for example, can be reproduced by a hidden variable model. Models that deal with the relaxation of some condition above, with more than one hidden variable, have been studied in the literature nowadays. In this work the relation between the number of hidden variables and the degree of relaxation necessa…
It is shown, theoretically and experimentally, that at any type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) phase matching, the decoherence-free singlet Bell state is always present within the natural bandwidth and can be filtered out by a proper spectral selection. Instead of the frequency selection, one can perform time selection of the two-photon time amplitude at the output of a dispersive fibre. Applications to quantum communication are outlined.
Bell correlation inequalities for two sites and 2+n or 3+3 two-way measurements ("dichotomic observables") are considered. In the 2+n case, any facet of the classical experience polytope is defined by a CHSH inequality involving only two pairs of the observables. In the 3+3 case, contrary to earlier results, the action of the symmetry group reduces the set of all Bell inequalities to just 3 orbits, only one of them being "new" (not known from the 2+2 case). A detailed calculation for the singlet state of two qubits reveals the configurations of a maximal violation for this class of inequalitie…
A suitable generalized measurement described by a 4-element positive operator-valued measure (POVM) on each particle of a two-qubit system in the singlet state is, from the point of view of Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen's (EPR's) criterion of elements of reality, equivalent to a random selection between two alternative projective measurements. It is shown that an EPR-experiment with a fixed POVM on each particle provides a violation of Bell's inequality without requiring local observers to choose between the alternatives. This approach could be useful for designing a loophole-free test of Bell…
We apply the Wigner function formalism to partial Bell-state analysis using polarization entanglement produced in parametric down conversion. Two-photon statistics at a beam-splitter are reproduced by a wavelike description with zeropoint fluctuations of the electromagnetic field. In particular, the fermionic behaviour of two photons in the singlet state is explained from the invariance on the correlation properties of two light beams going through a balanced beam-splitter. Moreover, we show that a Bell-state measurement introduces some fundamental noise at the idle channels of the analyzers. …
Two noninteracting atoms, initially entangled in Bell states, are coupled to a one-mode cavity. Based on the reduced non-perturbative quantum master equation, the entanglement evolution of the two atoms with decay is investigated beyond rotating-wave approximation. It is shown that the counter-rotating wave terms have great influence on the disentanglement behavior. The phenomenon of entanglement sudden death and entanglement sudden birth will occur.
Entanglement is a powerful resource for processing quantum information. In this context pure, maximally entangled states have received considerable attention. In the case of bipartite qubit-systems the four orthonormal Bell-states are of this type. One of these Bell states, the singlet Bell-state, has the additional property of being antisymmetric with respect to particle exchange. In this contribution we discuss possible generalizations of this antisymmetric Bell-state to cases with more than two particles and with single-particle Hilbert spaces involving more than two dimensions. We review b…
We propose a quantum computation architecture of double-dot molecules, where the qubit is encoded in the molecule two-electron spin states. By arranging the two dots inside each molecule perpendicular to the qubit scaling line, the interactions between neighboring qubits are largely simplified and the scaling to multi-qubit system becomes straightforward. As an Ising-model effective interaction can be expediently switched on and off between any two neighboring molecules by adjusting the potential offset between the two dots, universal two-qubit gates can be implemented without requiring time-d…
Bell tests---the experimental demonstration of a Bell inequality violation---are central to understanding the foundations of quantum mechanics, underpin quantum technologies, and are a powerful diagnostic tool for technological developments in these areas. To date, Bell tests have relied on careful calibration of the measurement devices and alignment of a shared reference frame between the two parties---both technically demanding tasks in general. Surprisingly, we show that neither of these operations are necessary, violating Bell inequalities with near certainty with (i) unaligned, but calibr…
The Mermin-Klyshko inequality for n spin-1/2 particles and two dichotomic observables is generalized to n spin-s particles and two maximal observables. It is shown that some multiparty multilevel Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states [A. Cabello, Phys. Rev. A 63, 022104 (2001)] maximally violate this inequality for any s. For a fixed n, the magnitude of the violation is constant for any s, which provides a simple demonstration and generalizes the conclusion reached by Gisin and Peres for two spin-s particles in the singlet state [Phys. Lett. A 162, 15 (1992)]. For a fixed s, the violation grows e…
Recently, it has been realized that nonlocal disentanglement may take a finite time as opposite to the asymptotic decay of local coherences. We find in this paper that a sudden irreversible death of entanglement takes place in a two atom optical Stern-Gerlach model. In particular, the one degree non dissipative environment here considered suddenly destroys the initial entanglement of any Bell's states $\ket{ϕ^{\pm}}$ superposition.
We propose and analyze an approach for preparation of high fidelity entanglement and antiferromagnetic states using Rydberg mediated interactions with dissipation. Using asymmetric Rydberg interactions the two-atom Bell singlet is a dark state of the Rydberg pumping process. Master equation simulations demonstrate Bell singlet preparation fidelity $\mcF=0.998$. Antiferromagnetic states are generated on a four spin plaquette in agreement with results found from diagonalization of the transverse field Ising Hamiltonian.
Analytical and numerical arguments are presented in case of a pair of two-state systems in a singlet state that the threshold visibility for testing Bell's theorem on the entire range of measurement settings is 33.3%. It is also shown that no lower treshold exists.
The original formula of Bell inequality (BI) in terms of two-spin singlet has to be modified for the entangled-state with parallel spin polarization. Based on classical statistics of the particle-number correlation, we prove in this paper an extended BI, which is valid for two-spin entangled states with both parallel and antiparallel polarizations. The BI and its violation can be formulated in a unified formalism based on the spin coherent-state quantum probability statistics with the state-density operator, which is separated to the local and non-local parts. The local part gives rise to the …
We try to classify the spectrum of the two-qubit Dicke model by calculating two quantum information measures of its eigenstates: the Wooters concurrence and the mutual quantum information. We are able to detect four spectral sets in each parity subspace of the model: one set is regular and given by the product of a Fock state of the field times the singlet Bell state of the qubits; the rest are fairly regular and related to the triplet states of the Bell basis. The singlet states become trapping states when we couple the Dicke model to an environment of harmonic oscillators, making them candid…
We extend the recent result of bipartite Bell singlet [Carr and Saffman, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf111}, (2013)] to a stationary three-dimensional entanglement between two-individual neutral Rydberg atoms. This proposal makes full use of the coherent dynamics provided by Rydberg mediated interaction and the dissipative factor originating from the spontaneous emission of Rydberg state. The numerical simulation of the master equation reveals that both the target state negativity ${\cal N}(\hatρ_{\infty})$ and fidelity ${\cal F}(\hatρ_{\infty})$ can exceed 99.90%. Furthermore, a steady three-atom sing…
We propose an experiment demonstrating the nonlocality of a quantum singlet-like state generated from a single photon incident on a beam splitter. Each of the two spatially separated apparatuses in the setup performs a strongly unbalanced homodyning, employing a single photon counting detector. We show that the correlation functions violating the Bell inequalities in the proposed experiment are given by the joint two-mode Q-function and the Wigner function of the optical singlet-like state. This establishes a direct relationship between two intriguing aspects of quantum mechanics: the nonlocal…
Bipartite quantum entangled systems can exhibit measurement correlations that violate Bell inequalities, revealing the profoundly counter-intuitive nature of the physical universe. These correlations reflect the impossibility of constructing a joint probability distribution for all values of all the different properties observed in Bell inequality tests. Physically, the impossibility of measuring such a distribution experimentally, as a set of relative frequencies, is due to the quantum back-action of projective measurements. Weakly coupling to a quantum probe, however, produces minimal back-a…
We describe a direct method to experimentally determine local two-qubit invariants by performing interferometric measurements on multiple copies of a given two-qubit state. We use this framework to analyze two different kinds of two-qubit invariants of Makhlin and Jing et. al. These invariants allow to fully reconstruct any two-qubit state up to local unitaries. We demonstrate that measuring 3 invariants is sufficient to find, e.g., the optimal Bell inequality violation. These invariants can be measured with local or nonlocal measurements. We show that the nonlocal strategy that follows from M…
The entangled quantum states play a key role in quantum information. The association of the quantum state vector with each individual physical system in an attributive way is a source of many false paradoxes and inconsistencies. The paradoxes are avoided if the purely statistical interpretation (SI) of the quantum state vector is adopted. According the SI the quantum theory (QT) does not provide any deterministic prediction for any individual experimental result obtained for a free physical system, for a trapped ion or for a quantum dot. In this article it is shown that if the SI is used then,…
A nonclassical feature of the fourth-order interference at a beam splitter, that genuine photon spin singlets are emitted in predetermined directions even when incident photons are unpolarized, has been used in a proposal for an experiment that imposes quantum spin correlation on truly independent photons. In the experiment, two photons from two such singlets interfere at a beam splitter, and as a result the other two photons - which nowhere interacted and whose paths nowhere crossed - exhibit a 100% correlation in polarization, even when no polarization has been measured in the first two phot…
We study the time dependent electron-electron and electron-hole correlations in a mesoscopic device which is splitting an incident current of free fermions into two spatially separated particle streams. We analyze the appearance of entanglement as manifested in a Bell inequality test and discuss its origin in terms of local spin-singlet correlations already present in the initial channel and the action of post-selection during the Bell type measurement. The time window over which the Bell inequality is violated is determined in the tunneling limit and for the general situation with arbitrary t…
The entanglement, purity and energy of two isolated two-level atoms which are initially prepared in Bell state and each interacts with a thermal cavity field are investigated by considering the atomic motion and the field-mode structure. We achieve the analytical solutions of the atomic qubits by using the algebraic dynamical approach and the influences of the field-mode structure parameter, the strength of the thermal field and the detuning on the entanglement, purity and energy are discussed. We also investigate the state evolution of the atomic qubits based on the entanglement-purity-energy…
