The concepts of concurrence and mode concurrence are the measures of entanglement for spin-1/2 and spinless fermion systems respectively. Based on the Jordan-Wigner transformation, any spin-1/2 system is always associated with a fermion system (called counterpart system). The comparison of concurrence and mode concurrence can be made with the aid of the Marshall's sign rule for the ground states of spin-1/2 $XXZ$ and spinless fermion chain systems. We observe that there exists an inequality between concurrence and mode concurrence for the ground states of the two corresponding systems. The spin-1/2 XY chain system and its spinless fermion counterpart as a realistic example is discussed to demonstrate the analytical results.
While single boson entanglement is known to be equivalent to standard non-identical particle entanglement, the use of fermionic entanglement is constrained by a parity superselection rule. Nevertheless we show that within the framework of second quantization, where local modes play the role of qubits, the analogy with ordinary entanglement holds: two entangled spinless fermion modes can be used to teleport a single local fermion mode and to perform standard dense coding. Entanglement concentration and dilution are possible for fermions. We clarify the meaning of our results by discussing the c…
This work unravels an interesting property of a one-dimensional lattice model that describes a single itinerant spinless fermion (excitation) coupled to zero-dimensional (dispersionless) bosons through two different nonlocal-coupling mechanisms. Namely, below a critical value of the effective excitation-boson coupling strength the exact ground state of this model is the zero-quasimomentum Bloch state of a bare (i.e., completely undressed) excitation. It is demonstrated here how this last property of the lattice model under consideration can be exploited for a fast, deterministic preparation of…
For indistinguishable itinerant particles subject to a superselection rule fixing their total number, a portion of the entanglement entropy under a spatial bipartition of the ground state is due to particle fluctuations between subsystems and thus is inaccessible as a resource for quantum information processing. We quantify the remaining operationally accessible entanglement in a model of interacting spinless fermions on a one dimensional lattice via exact diagonalization and the density matrix renormalization group. We find that the accessible entanglement exactly vanishes at the first order …
Motivated by the recent interest in non-equilibrium phenomena in quantum many-body systems, we study strongly interacting fermions on a lattice by deriving and numerically solving quantum Boltzmann equations that describe their relaxation to thermodynamic equilibrium. The derivation is carried out by inspecting the hierarchy of correlations within the framework of the 1/Z-expansion. Applying the Markov approximation, we obtain the dynamic equations for the distribution functions. Interestingly, we find that in the strong-coupling limit, collisions between particles and holes dominate over parti…
Motivated by the experiment [St-Jean {\it et al}., Nature Photon. {\bf 11}, 651 (2017)] on topological phases with collective photon modes in a zigzag chain of polariton micropillars, we study spinless $p$-orbital fermions with local interorbital hoppings and repulsive interactions between $p_x$ and $p_y$ bands in zigzag optical lattices. We show that spinless $p$-band fermions in zigzag optical lattices can mimic the interacting Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and the effective transverse field Ising model in the presence of local hoppings. We analytically and numerically discuss the ground-state …
We analytically study a system of spinless fermions driven at the boundary with an oscillating chemical potential. Various transport regimes can be observed: at zero driving frequency the particle current through the system is independent of the system's length; at the phase-transition frequency, being equal to the bandwidth, the current decays as n^{-alpha} with the chain length n, alpha being either 2 or 3; below the transition the scaling of the current is n^{-1/2}, indicating anomalous transport, while it is exponentially small exp{(-n/2xi)} above the transition. Therefore, by a simple cha…
We investigate the Unruh effect on entanglement taking into account the spin degree of freedom of the Dirac field. We analyze spin Bell states in this setting, obtaining their entanglement dependance on the acceleration of one of the partners. Then, we consider simple analogs to the occupation number entangled state |00>+|11>, but with spin quantum numbers for |11> showing that, despite their apparent similitude, while the spinless case is always qubit x qubit, for the spin case acceleration produces a qubit x qu4it state. We also introduce a procedure to consistently erase the spin informatio…

First-quantized deep neural network techniques are developed for analyzing strongly coupled fermionic systems on the lattice. Using a Slater-Jastrow inspired ansatz which exploits deep residual networks with convolutional residual blocks, we approximately determine the ground state of spinless fermions on a square lattice with nearest-neighbor interactions. The flexibility of the neural-network ansatz results in a high level of accuracy when compared to exact diagonalization results on small systems, both for energy and correlation functions. On large systems, we obtain accurate estimates of t…
Abelian Chern-Simons-Maxwell theory can emerge from the bosonisation of the 2+1-dimensional Thirring model that describes interacting Dirac fermions. Here we show how the Thirring model manifests itself in the low energy limit of a two-dimensional tight-binding model of spinless fermions. To establish that we employ a modification of Haldane's model, where the "doubling" of fermions is rectified by adiabatic elimination. Subsequently, fermionic interactions are introduced that lead to the analytically tractable Thirring model. By local density measurements of the lattice fermions we can establ…
We construct a 1D model Hamiltonian of spinless fermions for which the spinless analogue of $η$-pairing states are quantum many-body scars of the model. These states are excited states and display subvolume entanglement entropy scaling; they form a tower of states that are equally spaced in energy (resulting in periodic oscillations in the Loschmidt echo and in the time evolution of observables for initial states prepared in a superposition of them) and are atypical in the sense that they weakly break the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis, while the other excited states are thermal. We exte…
We consider the field renormalization group (RG) of two coupled one-spatial dimension (1D) spinless fermion chains under intraforward, interforward, interbackscattering and interumklapp interactions until two-loops order. Up to this order, we demonstrate the quantum confinement in the RG flow, where the interband chiral Fermi points reduce to single chiral Fermi points and the renormalized interaction couplings have Luttinger liquid fixed points. We show that this quasi-1D system is equivalently described in terms of one and two-color interactions and address the problem of quantum anomaly, in…
We investigate spatial entanglement in a system of spinless non-interacting bosons in a one dimensional harmonic trap described by the grand canonical ensemble. We find the lower bound for the amount of spatial entanglement contained in the average state of two bosons in the trap and show that it exists for arbitrary high temperatures.
We introduce a class of spinless fermion models that exhibit quantum many-body scars (QMBS) originating from kinetic constraints in the form of density-assisted hopping. The models can be defined on any lattice in any dimension and allow for spatially varying interactions. We construct a tower of exact eigenstates with finite energy density, and we demonstrate that these QMBS are responsible for the nonthermal nature of the system by studying the entanglement entropy and correlation functions. The quench dynamics from certain initial states is also investigated, and it is confirmed that the QM…
The Chern number, nu, as a topological invariant that identifies the winding of the ground state in the particle-hole space, is a definitive theoretical signature that determines whether a given superconducting system can support Majorana zero modes. Here we show that such a winding can be faithfully identified for any superconducting system (p-wave or s-wave with spin-orbit coupling) through a set of time-of-flight measurements, making it a diagnostic tool also in actual cold atom experiments. As an application, we specialize the measurement scheme for a chiral topological model of spinless f…
We investigate the phase diagram of spinless fermions on a square lattice with nearest-neighbor interaction, using the recently developed projective truncation approximation in Green's function equation of motion. For attractive interaction, the ground state is in an homogeneous p + ip superconducting (SC) phase at high or low electron densities. Near half filling is a phase separation (PS) between the SC phases. Allowing inhomogeneous solution, we obtain p-wave SC domains with positive interface energy. As temperature increases, the SC phases transit into normal phases above Tsc, generating a…
Experimental control over ultracold quantum gases has made it possible to investigate low-dimensional systems of both bosonic and fermionic atoms. In closed 1D systems there are a lot of similarities in the dynamics of local quantities for spinless fermions and strongly interacting "hard-core" bosons, which on a lattice can be formalised via a Jordan-Wigner transformation. In this study, we analyse the similarities and differences for spinless fermions and hard-core bosons on a lattice in the presence of particle loss. The removal of a single fermion causes differences in local quantities comp…
We have studied the entanglement of identical fermions in two spatial regions in terms of the Berry phase acquired by their spins. The analysis is done from the viewpoint of the geometrical interpretation of entanglement, where a fermion is visualized as a scalar particle attached with a magnetic flux quantum. The quantification of spin entanglement in terms of their Berry phases is novel and generalises the relationship between the entanglement of distinguishable spins and that of delocalised fermions.
We discuss the relation between fermion entanglement and bipartite entanglement. We first show that an exact correspondence between them arises when the states are constrained to have a definite local number parity. Moreover, for arbitrary states in a four dimensional single-particle Hilbert space, the fermion entanglement is shown to measure the entanglement between two distinguishable qubits defined by a suitable partition of this space. Such entanglement can be used as a resource for tasks like quantum teleportation. On the other hand, this fermionic entanglement provides a lower bound to t…
This work is a continuation of our recent study of non-relativistic charged particles, confined to a sphere enclosing a magnetic dipole at its center. In this sequel, we extend our computations in two significant ways. The first is to a relativistic spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ fermion and the second concerns the interpretation of the physics. Whereas in a previous paper, we speculated on the possibility of observing such condensed matter systems in the astrophysics of extreme magnetic sources such as neutron stars, the physical systems in this study are more down-to-earth objects such as a $\mathsf{C}_…
We investigate the effects of spin on entanglement arising in Dirac field in an expanding spacetime characterized by the Robertson-Walker metric. We present a general approach that allows us to treat the case where only charge conservation is required, as well as the case where also angular momentum conservation is required. We fiend that in both situations entanglement, quantified by subsystem entropy, behaves the same and does not qualitatively deviates from the spinless case. Differences only arise when particles and/or antiparticles are present in the input state.
We study the properties of entanglement entropy among scattering particles as observed from different inertial moving frames, based on an exemplary QED process $e^+e^-\rightarrowμ^+μ^-$. By the explicit calculation of the Wigner rotation, the entanglement entropy of scattering particles is found to be Lorentz invariant. We also study the behavior of the entanglement between spin degrees of freedom for scattering particles in moving frames. This quantity, being found to change with different inertial reference frames, does not exhibit as a Lorentz invariant.
We consider the real-time evolution of the Hubbard model in the limit of infinite coupling. In this limit the Hamiltonian of the system is mapped into a number-conserving quadratic form of spinless fermions, i.e. the tight binding model. The relevant local observables, however, do not transform well under this mapping and take very complicated expressions in terms of the spinless fermions. Here we show that for two classes of interesting observables the quench dynamics from product states in the occupation basis can be determined exactly in terms of correlations in the tight-binding model. In …
We propose a new approach in the investigation and detection of axion and axion-like particles based on the study of the entanglement for two interacting fermions. We study a system made of two identical fermions with spin-1/2, and we show that fermion-fermion interaction mediated by axions leads to a non-zero entanglement between the fermions. An entanglement measurement can reveal the interaction, providing an indirect evidence of the existence of axions. We discuss how the other interactions affect the entanglement, and how to isolate the axion contribution. Particular care is devoted to th…
For a system of spinless one-dimensional fermions, the non-vanishing short-range limit of two-body interaction is shown to induce the wave-function discontinuity. We prove the equivalence of this fermionic system and the bosonic particle system with two-body $δ$-function interaction with the reversed role of strong and weak couplings.
