In this paper, we write down the separable Werner state in a two-qubit system explicitly as a convex combination of product states, which is different from the convex combination obtained by Wootters' method. The Werner state in a two-qubit system has a single real parameter and varies from inseparable state to separable state according to the value of its parameter. We derive a hidden variable model that is induced by our decomposed form for the separable Werner state. From our explicit form of the convex combination of product states, we understand the following: The critical point of the parameter for separability of the Werner state comes from positivity of local density operators of the qubits.
We derive an integral convex combination of product states for a range of separable Werner states. Our method consists of expanding the sought-after local density operators in terms of Wigner operators. For dimension d=2, our decomposition holds for the whole separable range of Werner states, while for d>2 it is valid for a subset of separable Werner states. We illustrate the general method with the explicit examples d=2 and d=3.
We classify the completely-positive maps acting on two $d$-dimensional systems which commute with all $U\otimes U$ unitaries, where $U\in SU(d)$. This set of operations map Werner states to Werner states. We find a simple condition for a map being implementable by stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). We show that all PPT-preserving maps can be implemented by SLOCC. This can be used to prove that the entanglement of Werner states cannot be stochastically increased, even if we allow PPT entanglement for free.
The multiphoton states generated by high-gain spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) in presence of large losses are investigated theoretically and experimentally. The explicit form for the two-photon output state has been found to exhibit a Werner structure very resilient to losses for any value of the gain parameter, g. The theoretical results are found in agreement with the experimental data. The last ones are obtained by quantum tomography of the state generated by a high-gain SPDC.
The decompositions of separable Werner state, and also isotropic state, are well-known tough issues in quantum information theory, in this work we investigate them in the Bloch vector representation, exploring the symmetric informationally complete positive operator-valued measure (SIC-POVM) in the Hilbert space. We successfully get the decomposition for arbitrary $N\times N$ Werner state in terms of regular simplexes. Meanwhile, the decomposition of isotropic state is found to be related to the decomposition of Werner state via partial transposition. It is interesting to note that in the larg…
We use matched quantum entanglement witnesses to study the separable criteria of continuous variable states. The witness can be written as an identity operator minus a Gaussian operator. The optimization of the witness then is transformed to an eigenvalue problem of a Gaussian kernel integral equation. It follows a separable criterion not only for symmetric Gaussian quantum states, but also for non-Gaussian states prepared by photon adding to or/and subtracting from symmetric Gaussian states. Based on Fock space numeric calculation, we obtain an entanglement witness for more general two-mode s…
The nonlinear positive map of density matrix of two-qubit Werner state called nonlinear channel is studied. The map of density matrix is realized by rational function. The influence of the map onto the entanglement properties of the transformed density matrix is discussed. The violation of Bell inequality (CHSH inequality) for the two-qubit state is investigated. The nonlinear channels under discussion create the entangled state from separable Werner state. The quantum spin-tomograms of the states are studied.
The study of local models using finite shared randomness originates from the consideration about the cost of classically simulating entanglement in composite quantum systems. We construct explicitly two families of local-hidden-state (LHS) models for T-states, by mapping the problem to the Werner state. The continuous decreasing of shared randomness along with entanglement, as the anisotropy increases, can be observed in the one from the most economical model for the Werner state. The construction of the one for separable states shows that the separable boundary of T-states can be generated fr…
We address an open question about the existence of entangled continuous-variable (CV) Werner states with positive partial transpose (PPT). We prove that no such state exists by showing that all PPT CV Werner states are separable. The separability follows by observing that these CV Werner states can be approximated by truncating the states into a finite-dimensional convex mixture of product states. In addition, the constituents of the product states comprise a generalized non-Gaussian measurement which gives, rather surprisingly, a strictly tighter upper bound on quantum discord than photon cou…
An extension to computational mechanics complexity measure is proposed in order to tackle quantum states complexity quantification. The method is applicable to any $n-$partite state of qudits through some simple modifications. A Werner state was considered to test this approach. The results show that it undergoes a phase transition between entangled and separable versions of itself. Also, results suggest interplay between quantum state complexity robustness rise and entanglement. Finally, only via symbolic dynamics statistical analysis, the proposed method was able to distinguish separable and…
In a number of previous studies, we have investigated the use of the volume element of the Bures (minimal monotone) metric -- identically, one-fourth of the statistical distinguishability (SD) metric -- as a natural measure over the (n^2-1)-dimensional convex set of n x n density matrices. This has led us for the cases n = 4 and 6 to estimates of the prior (Bures/SD) probabilities that qubit-qubit and qubit-qutrit pairs are separable. Here, we extend this work from such bipartite systems to the tripartite "laboratory'' quantum systems possessing U x U x U symmetry recently constructed by Eggel…
A geometric understanding of entanglement is proposed based on local measurements. Taking recourse to the general structure of density matrices in the framework of Euclidean geometry, we first illustrate our approach for bipartite Werner states. It is demonstrated that separable states satisfy certain geometric constraints that entangled states do not. A separability criterion for multiparty Werner states of arbitrary dimension is derived. This approach can be used to determine separability across any bipartition of a general density matrix and leads naturally to a computable measure of entang…
We study the efficacy of two-qubit mixed entangled states as resources for quantum teleportation. We first consider two maximally entangled mixed states, viz., the Werner state\cite{werner}, and a class of states introduced by Munro {\it et al.} \cite{munro}. We show that the Werner state when used as teleportation channel, gives rise to better average teleportation fidelity compared to the latter class of states for any finite value of mixedness. We then introduce a non-maximally entangled mixed state obtained as a convex combination of a two-qubit entangled mixed state and a two-qubit separa…
We consider bipartite mixed states in a $d\otimes d$ quantum system. We say that $ρ$ is PPT if its partial transpose $1 \otimes T (ρ)$ is positive semidefinite, and otherwise $ρ$ is NPT. The well-known Werner states are divided into three types: (a) the separable states (the same as the PPT states); (b) the one-distillable states (necessarily NPT); and (c) the NPT states which are not one-distillable. We give several different formulations and provide further evidence for validity of the conjecture that the Werner states of type (c) are not two-distillable.
Information is encoded in a qubit in the form of its Bloch vector. In this paper, we propose protocols for remote transfers of information in a known and an unknown qubit to qudits using $SU(2)$- invariant $\frac{1}{2}\otimes S$ discordant states as a channel. These states have been identified as separable equivalents of the two-qubit entangled Werner states in [Bharath & Ravishankar, Phys. Rev. A 89, 062110]. Due to $SU(2) \times SU(2)$ invariance of these states, the remote qudit can be changed by performing appropriate measurements on the qubit. We also propose a protocol for transferring i…
We analyze the facial structures of the convex set consisting of all two qubit separable states. One of faces is a four dimensional convex body generated by the trigonometric moment curve arising from polyhedral combinatorics. Another one is an eight dimensional convex body, which is the convex hull of a homeomorphic image of the two dimensional sphere. Extreme points consist of points on the surface, and any two of them determines an edge. We also reconstruct the trigonometric moment curve in any even dimensional affine space using the qubit-qudit systems, and characterize the facial structur…
Based on the exact dynamics of a two-qubit system and environment, we investigate system-environment (SE) quantum and classical correlations. The coupling is chosen to represent a dephasing channel for one of the qubits and the environment is a proper thermal bath. First we discuss the general issue of dilation for qubit phase damping. Based on the usual thermal bath of harmonic oscillators, we derive criteria of separability and entanglement between an initial $X$ state and the environment. Applying these criteria to initial Werner states, we find that entanglement between the system and envi…
The fidelity and local unitary transformation are two widely useful notions in quantum physics. We study two constrained optimization problems in terms of the maximal and minimal fidelity between two bipartite quantum states undergoing local unitary dynamics. The problems are related to the geometric measure of entanglement and the distillability problem. We show that the problems can be reduced to semi-definite programming optimization problems. We give close-form formulae of the fidelity when the two states are both pure states, or a pure product state and the Werner state. We explain from t…
In this paper we classify the four-qubit states that commute with $U\otimes{U}\otimes{V}\otimes{V}$, where $U$ and $V$ are arbitrary members of the Pauli group. We characterize the set of separable states for this class, in terms of a finite number of entanglement witnesses. Equivalently, we characterize the two-qubit, Bell-diagonal-preserving, completely positive maps that are separable. These separable completely positive maps correspond to protocols that can be implemented with stochastic local operations assisted by classical communication (SLOCC). This allows us to derive a complete set o…

We prove that the binegativity is always positive for any two-qubit state. As a result, as suggested by the previous works, the asymptotic relative entropy of entanglement in two qubits does not exceed the Rains bound, and the PPT-entanglement cost for any two-qubit state is determined to be the logarithmic negativity of the state. Further, the proof reveals some geometrical characteristics of the entangled states, and shows that the partial transposition can give another separable approximation of the entangled state in two qubits.
