By using a quantized input light, we theoretically revisit the coherent two-color photo-association process in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate. Under the single-mode approximations, we show two interesting regimes of the light transmission and the molecular generation. The quantum state transfer from light to molecules is exhibited, without or with the depletion of trapped atoms.
Stimulated Raman scattering of atoms with $Λ$-configuration of levels is a promising tool for transducing microwave photons to optical photons. We consider an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate whose large phase-space density highly amplifies the coupling to the microwave field. Due momentum transfer to the condensate, stimulated photon scattering can occur outside of the phase-matched direction, which can be used to separate the converted photons from the strong Raman readout pulse. Conversely, in the phase-matched direction, superradiant scattering due to bosonic enhancement leads to increased …
We consider the interaction of a magnetically trapped Bose-Einstein condensate of Rubidium atoms with the stationary microwave radiation field sustained by a coplanar waveguide resonator. This coupling allows for the measurement of the magnetic field of the resonator by means of counting the atoms that fall out of the condensate due to hyperfine transitions to non-trapped states. We determine the quantum efficiency of this detection scheme and show that weak microwave fields at the single-photon level can be sensed with an integration time on the order of a second.
Photon recoil momentum in a Bose-Einstein condensate of a dilute gas
Fractional revival occurs between two vertices in a graph if a continuous-time quantum walk unitarily maps the characteristic vector of one vertex to a superposition of the characteristic vectors of the two vertices. This phenomenon is relevant in quantum information in particular for entanglement generation in spin networks. We study fractional revival in graphs whose adjacency matrices belong to the Bose-Mesner algebra of association schemes. A specific focus is a characterization of balanced fractional revival (which corresponds to maximal entanglement) in graphs that belong to the Hamming …
Bosonic gases coupled to a particle reservoir have proven to support a regime of operation where Bose-Einstein condensation coexists with unusually large particle-number fluctuations. Experimentally, this situation has been realized with two-dimensional photon gases in a dye-filled optical microcavity. Here, we investigate theoretically and experimentally the open-system dynamics of a grand canonical Bose-Einstein condensate of photons. We identify a regime with temporal oscillations of the second-order coherence function $g^{(2)}(τ)$, even though the energy spectrum closely matches the predic…
For equilibrium systems, the magnitude of thermal fluctuations is closely linked to the dissipative response to external perturbations. This fluctuation-dissipation relation has been described for material particles in a wide range of fields. Here we experimentally probe the relation between the number fluctuations and the response function for a Bose-Einstein condensate of photons coupled to a dye reservoir, demonstrating the fluctuation-dissipation relation for a quantum gas of light. The observed agreement of the scale factor with the environment temperature both directly confirms the therm…
We experimentally study universal nonequilibrium dynamics of two-dimensional atomic Bose gases quenched from repulsive to attractive interactions. We observe the manifestation of modulational instability that, instead of causing collapse, fragments a large two-dimensional superfluid into multiple wave packets universally around a threshold atom number necessary for the formation of Townes solitons. We confirm that the density distributions of quench-induced solitary waves are in excellent agreement with the stationary Townes profiles. Furthermore, our density measurements in the space and time…
We study the ground state phase diagram of a nonlinear two-photon Rabi-Hubbard (RH) model in one dimension using quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations and density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations. Our model includes a nonlinear photon-photon interaction term. Absent this term, the RH model has only one phase, the normal disordered phase, and suffers from spectral collapse at larger values of the photon-qubit interaction or inter-cavity photon hopping. The photon-photon interaction, no matter how small, stabilizes the system which now exhibits {\it two} quantum phase transitions…
