This is a review of the ideas behind the Fisher--Rao metric on classical probability distributions, and how they generalize to metrics on density matrices. As is well known, the unique Fisher--Rao metric then becomes a large family of monotone metrics. Finally I focus on the Bures--Uhlmann metric, and discuss a recent result that connects the geometric operator mean to a geodesic billiard on the set of density matrices.
The tomographic picture of quantum mechanics has brought the description of quantum states closer to that of classical probability and statistics. On the other hand, the geometrical formulation of quantum mechanics introduces a metric tensor and a symplectic tensor (Hermitian tensor) on the space of pure states. By putting these two aspects together, we show that the Fisher information metric, both classical and quantum, can be described by means of the Hermitian tensor on the manifold of pure states.
We use an alternative approach to show that quantum entanglement-like correlations cannot be reproduced for any classical protocol. In our proposal, quantum geometric restrictions are impose over the physical system related to the existence of entanglement and we demonstrate that there is no classical local strategy that can reproduce them completely. Typically, the implementations of Bell inequalities have as a starting point the expectation of classical behavior and as conclusion the violation due to the quantum character of the system. We go the other way around. For this purpose, we build …
This model is one of the possible geometrical interpretations of Quantum Mechanics where found to every image Path correspondence the geodesic trajectory of classical test particles in the random geometry of the stochastic fields background. We are finding to the imagined Feynman Path a classical model of test particles as geodesic trajectory in the curved space of Projected Hilbert space on Bloch's sphere.
The indeterministic character of physical laws is generally considered to be the most important consequence of quantum physics. A deterministic point of view, however, together with the possibility of well defined Hamiltonian trajectories, emerges as the most natural one from the analysis of the time-independent Helmholtz-like equations encountered both in Classical Electromagnetism and in Wave Mechanics. In the case of particle beams a suitable pattern of trajectories is provided (for any set of boundary conditions) by a set of dynamical laws containing the classical ones as a simple limiting…
Some of the important non-classical aspects of quantum mechanics can be described in more intuitive terms if they are reformulated in a geometrical picture based on an extension of the classical phase space. This contribution presents various phase-space properties of moments describing a quantum state and its dynamics. An example of a geometrical reformulation of a non-classical quantum effect is given by an equivalence between conditions imposed by uncertainty relations and centrifugal barriers, respectively.
Construction of virtual quantum states became possible due to the hypothesis on the nature of quantum states quant-ph/0212139. This study considers a stochastic geometrical background (stochastic gravitational background) generating correlation (or, coherency) of various quantum non-interacting objects. In the quantum state virtual model, a simple method of generating of two (or more) dichotomic signals with controlled mutual correlation factor from a single continuous stochastic process is implemented. Basing on the system random number generator of the computer, a model of the stationary ran…
The quantum analogue of the classical characteristic function for a spin 1/2 assembly is considered and the probability mass function of the random vector associated with the assembly is derived. It is seen that the positive regions of Wigner and Margenau-Hill quasi distributions for the three components of spin, correspond to a trivariate probability mass function. We identify the domain of these positive regions as an Octahedron inscribed in the Bloch sphere with its vertices on the surface of the sphere. It is in this domain that a quantum characteristic function characterizing the quasi di…
Although a precise description of microscopic physical problems requires a full quantum mechanical treatment, physical quantities are generally discussed in terms of classical variables. One exception is quantum entanglement which apparently has no classical counterpart. We demonstrate here how quantum entanglement may be within the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics visualized in geometrical terms, giving new insight into this mysterious phenomenon and a language to describe it. On the basis of our analysis of the dynamics of a pair of qubits, quantum entanglement is linked t…

We consider a set of N linearly coupled harmonic oscillators and show that the diagonalization of this problem can be put in geometrical terms. The matrix techniques developed here allowed for solutions in both the classical and quantum regimes.

We study classical and quantum phases in the adiabatic Born-Oppenheimer context. These include a classical astronomical case, the general dual description of the phases, a new "Paradox" connected to scattering Berry phase and its resolution and various elaboration of topological/geometrical/non-abelian phases.
We consider the fractal characteristic of the quantum mechanical paths and we obtain for any universal class of fractons labeled by the Hausdorff dimension defined within the interval 1$ $$ < $$ $$h$$ $$ <$$ $$ 2$, a fractal distribution function associated with a fractal von Neumann entropy. Fractons are charge-flux systems defined in two-dimensional multiply connected space and they carry rational or irrational values of spin. This formulation can be considered in the context of the fractional quantum Hall effect-FQHE and number theory.

This post is the author's doctoral dissertation back in 1997. The dissertation covers following four kinds of problems: First, it studies achievable Cramer-Rao type bounds of various multi-parameter pure state models. Second, it relates CR-bouds, both of mixed state and pure states, with Berry-Uhlmann curvature. Roughly, it characterize how the statistical model differs from classical probability distribution family. Though the relation is rather qualitative for mixed states, the quantitative relation is obtained for pure state models. Third topic is relation between Berry-Uhlmann geometry and…
States of a quantum mechanical system are represented by rays in a complex Hilbert space. The space of rays has, naturally, the structure of a Kähler manifold. This leads to a geometrical formulation of the postulates of quantum mechanics which, although equivalent to the standard algebraic formulation, has a very different appearance. In particular, states are now represented by points of a symplectic manifold (which happens to have, in addition, a compatible Riemannian metric), observables are represented by certain real-valued functions on this space and the Schrödinger evolution is capture…
In this paper we review a proposed geometrical formulation of quantum mechanics. We argue that this geometrization makes available mathematical methods from classical mechanics to the quantum frame work. We apply this formulation to the study of separability and entanglement for states of composite quantum systems.
We derive geometrical bounds on the irreversibility in both quantum and classical Markovian open systems that satisfy the detailed balance condition. Using information geometry, we prove that irreversible entropy production is bounded from below by a modified Wasserstein distance between the initial and final states, thus strengthening the Clausius inequality in the reversible-Markov case. The modified metric can be regarded as a discrete-state generalization of the Wasserstein metric, which has been used to bound dissipation in continuous-state Langevin systems. Notably, the derived bounds ca…
The spin-1 classical Blume-Capel model on a square lattice is known to exhibit a finite-temperature phase transition described by the tricritical Ising CFT in 1+1 space-time dimensions. This phase transition can be accessed with classical Monte Carlo simulations, which, via a replica-trick calculation, can be used to study the shape-dependence of the classical Rényi entropies for a torus divided into two cylinders. From the second Rényi entropy, we calculate the Geometrical Mutual Information (GMI) introduced by Stéphan et. al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 112, 127204 (2014)] and use it to extract a nume…
Simple considerations about the fractal characteristic of the quantum-mechanical path give us the opportunity to derive the quantum black hole entropy in connection with the concept of fractal statistics. We show the geometrical origin of the numerical factor of four of the quantum black hole entropy expression and the statistics weight appears as a counting of the quanta of geometry.
An algebraic approach is formulated in the harmonic approximation to describe a dynamics of two-fermion systems, confined in three-dimensional axially symmetric parabolic potential, in an external magnetic field. The fermion interaction is considered in the form U_(M)(r)= alpha_(M)r^{-M} (alpha_(M)>0, M>0). The formalism of a semi-simple Lie group is applied to analyse symmetries of the considered system. Explicit algebraic expressions are derived in terms of system's parameters and the magnetic field strength to trace the evolution of the equilibrium shape. It is predicted that the interplay …
