We explore connections between an operator's matrix element distribution and its entanglement generation. Operators with matrix element distributions similar to those of random matrices generate states of high multi-partite entanglement. This occurs even when other statistical properties of the operators do not conincide with random matrices. Similarly, operators with some statistical properties of random matrices may not exhibit random matrix element distributions and will not produce states with high levels of multi-partite entanglement. Finally, we show that operators with similar matrix element distributions generate similar amounts of entanglement.
It is shown that entanglement, which is a quantum correlation property of at least two subsystems, is imprinted in the mode structure of a single photon. The photon, which is emitted by two coupled cavities, carries the information on the concurrence of the two intracavity fields. This can be useful for recording the entanglement dynamics of two cavity fields and for entanglement transfer.
We study a general theory on the interference of two-photon wavepacket in a beam splitter. We find that the symmetry of two-photon spectrum plays an important role in the manners of interference. We distinguish the coalescence and anti-coalescence interferences, and prove that the anti-coalescence interference is the signature of photon entanglement.
We explore the dynamics of entanglement in classically chaotic systems by considering a multiqubit system that behaves collectively as a spin system obeying the dynamics of the quantum kicked top. In the classical limit, the kicked top exhibits both regular and chaotic dynamics depending on the strength of the chaoticity parameter $κ$ in the Hamiltonian. We show that the entanglement of the multiqubit system, considered for both bipartite and pairwise entanglement, yields a signature of quantum chaos. Whereas bipartite entanglement is enhanced in the chaotic region, pairwise entanglement is su…
Theory of bipartite entanglement shares profound similarities with thermodynamics. In this letter we extend this connection to multipartite quantum systems where entanglement appears in different forms with genuine entanglement being the most exotic one. We propose thermodynamic quantities that capture signature of genuineness in multipartite entangled states. Instead of entropy, these quantities are defined in terms of energy -- particularly the difference between global and local extractable works (ergotropies) that can be stored in quantum batteries. Some of these quantities suffice as fait…
Entangled states represent correlations between two separate systems that are too precise to be represented by products of local quantum states. We show that this limit of precision for the local quantum states of a pair of N-level systems can be defined by an appropriate class of uncertainty relations. The violation of such local uncertainty relations may be used as an experimental test of entanglement generation.
A broadcasting multiple blind signature scheme based on quantum GHZ entanglement has been presented recently by Tian et al. It is said that the scheme's unconditional security is guaranteed by adopting quantum key preparation, quantum encryption algorithm and quantum entanglement. In this paper, we prove that each signatory can get the signed message just by an intercept-resend attack. Then, we show there still exists some participant attacks and external attacks. Specifically, we verify the message sender Alice can impersonate each signatory to sign the message at will, and so is the signatur…
We theoretically study the optical tomography of maximally entangled states generated at the output modes of a beam splitter. We consider even and odd coherent states in one of the input modes and vacuum state in the other input mode of the beam splitter. We have shown that the signatures of entanglement can be observed directly in the optical tomogram of the state, without reconstructing the density matrix of the system. Two distinct types of optical tomograms are observed in any one of the output modes of the beam splitter based on the quadrature measurement in the other output mode if the o…
A cogent theory of collective multipole-like quantum correlations in symmetric multiqubit states is presented by employing SO(3) irreducible spherical tensor representation. An arbitrary bipartite division of this system leads to a family of inequalities to detect entanglement involving averages of these tensors expressed in terms of the total system angular momentum operator. Implications of this theory to the quantum nature of multipole-like correlations of all orders in the Dicke states are deduced. A selected set of examples illustrate these collective tests. Such tests detect entanglement…

We derive an inequality bounding the strength of temporal correlations for a pair of light beams prepared in a separable state and propagating through dispersive media with opposite signs of group velocity dispersion. The presented inequality can be violated by entangled states of light, such as photon pairs produced in spontaneous parametric down-conversion. Because the class of separable states covers the entire category of classical fields as a particular case, this result provides an unambiguously quantum feature of nonlocal dispersion cancellation that cannot be reproduced within the clas…

Extensive theoretical and experimental investigations on multipartite systems close to an avoided energy-level crossing reveal interesting features such as the extremisation of entanglement. Conventionally, the estimation of entanglement directly from experimental observation involves either one of two approaches: Uncertainty-relation-based estimation that captures the linear correlation between relevant observables, or rigorous but error-prone quantum state reconstruction on tomograms obtained from homodyne measurements. We investigate the behaviour, close to avoided crossings, of entanglemen…
We identify an optical signature for detecting entanglement in experimental nanostructure systems comprising coupled excitonic qubits. This signature owes its strength to non-Markovian dynamical effects in the second-order temporal coherence function of the emitted radiation. We calculate autocorrelation and cross-correlation functions for both selective and collective light excitation, and prove that the coherence properties of the emitted light do indeed carry information about the entanglement of the initial multi-qubit state. We also show that this signature can survive in the presence of …
Gapped two-dimensional topological phases can feature ungappable edge states which are robust even in the absence of protecting symmetries. In this work we show that a multipartite entanglement measure recently proposed in the context of holography, the Markov gap, provides a universal diagnostic of ungappable edge states. Defined as a difference of the reflected entropy and mutual information $h(A:B) = S_R(A:B) - I(A:B)$ between two parties, we argue that for $A,B$ being adjacent subregions in the bulk, $h=\frac{c_+}{3}\log 2$, where $c_+$ is the minimal total central charge of the boundary t…
A generalization of the 1935 Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) argument for measurements with continuous variable outcomes is presented to establish criteria for the demonstration of the EPR paradox, for situations where the correlation between spatially separated subsystems is not perfect. Two types of criteria for EPR correlations are determined. The first type are based on measurements of the variances of conditional probability distributions and are necessary to reflect directly the situation of the original EPR paradox. The second weaker set of EPR criteria are based on the proven failure of …
The thesis showcases the importance of tomograms in quantifying nonclassical effects such as wavepacket revivals, squeezing, and quantum entanglement in continuous-variable, hybrid quantum, and qubit systems. This approach avoids error-prone statistical methods used in state reconstruction procedures. The performance of many bipartite entanglement indicators obtained directly from tomograms is examined both in the case of known quantum states and experimental data reported in the literature.
We investigate how equilibrium entanglement is manifested in the nonlinear response of an $N$-qubit system. We show that in the thermodynamic limit the irreducible part of the $n$th-order nonlinear susceptibility indicates that the eigenstates of the system contain entangled $(n+1)$-qubit clusters. This opens the way to a directly observable multiqubit entanglement signature. We show that the irreducible part of the static cubic susceptibility of a system of four flux qubits, as a function of external parameters, behaves as a global 4-qubit entanglement measure introduced in Ref.\cite{Love}. W…
We show that the variation of the ground state entanglement in linear, higher spatial derivatives field theories at zero-temperature have signatures of phase transition. Around the critical point, when the dispersion relation changes from linear to non-linear, there is a fundamental change in the reduced density matrix leading to a change in the scaling of entanglement entropy. We suggest possible explanations involving both kinematical and dynamical effects. We discuss the implication of our work for 2-D condensed matter systems, black-hole entropy and models of quantum gravity.
In the Schrödinger-cat gedanken experiment a cat is in a quantum superposition of two macroscopically distinct states, alive and dead. The paradoxical interpretation of quantum mechanics is that the cat is not in one state or the other, alive or dead, immediately prior to its measurement. Because of this apparent defiance of macroscopic reality, quantum superpositions of states macroscopically distinct have generated much interest. Here we address the issue of proving a contradiction with macroscopic reality objectively, through the testable predictions of quantum mechanics. We consider the pre…
We numerically investigated the entanglement product in the simplest coupled kicked top model with the spin $j=1$. Different from the dynamical pattern of entanglement in the semiclassical regime, two similar initial states may have discordant entanglement oscillations. A candidate of the quantum signature of this classical chaotic system was proposed. The potential antimonotonic relation between the rank correlation coefficient qualifying the concordant of two entanglement evolutions and the stationary entanglement was preliminarily revealed.
We consider a spin ladder model which is known to have matrix product states as exact ground states with spin liquid characteristics. The model has two critical-point transitions at the parameter values u=0 and infinity. We study the variation of entanglement and fidelity measures in the ground states as a function of u and specially look for signatures of quantum phase transitions at u=0 and infinity. The two different entanglement measures used are S(i) (the single-site von Neumann entropy) and S(i, j) (the two-body entanglement). At the quantum critical point (QCP) u=infinity, the entanglem…
We are able to detect clear signatures of dephasing -- a distinct trait of Many-Body Localisation (MBL) -- via the dynamics of two-sites entanglement, quantified through the concurrence. Using the protocol implemented in [Science {\bf 349}, 842 (2015)] we show that -- in the MBL phase -- the average two-site entanglement decays in time as a power law, while in the Anderson localised phase it tends to a plateau. The exponent of the power law is not universal and shows a clear dependence on the strength of the interaction. This behaviour is also qualitatively different in the ergodic phase where…
Entangled solid state systems have gained a great deal of attention due to their fruitful applications in modern quantum technologies. Herein, detection of entanglement content from experimental magnetic susceptibility and specific heat data is reported for NH4CuPO4.H2O in its solid state crystalline form. NH4CuPO4.H2O is a prototype of Heisenberg spin 1/2 dimer system. Temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility and specific data are fitted to an isolated dimer model and the exchange coupling constant is determined. Field dependent magnetization isotherms taken at different temperatures are…
Holant problems are intimately connected with quantum theory as tensor networks. We first use techniques from Holant theory to derive new and improved results for quantum entanglement theory. We discover two particular entangled states $|{Ψ_6}\rangle$ of 6 qubits and $|{Ψ_8}\rangle$ of 8 qubits respectively, that have extraordinary and unique closure properties in terms of the Bell property. Then we use entanglement properties of constraint functions to derive a new complexity dichotomy for all real-valued Holant problems containing an odd-arity signature. The signatures need not be symmetric,…
We have studied entanglement entropy and Husimi $Q$ distribution as a tool to explore chaos in the quantum two-photon Dicke model. With the increase of the energy of system, the linear entanglement entropy of coherent state prepared in the classical chaotic and regular regions become more distinguishable, and the correspondence relationship between the distribution of time-averaged entanglement entropy and the classical Poincaré section has been improved obviously. Moreover, Husimi $Q$ distribution for the initial states corresponded to the points in the chaotic region in the higher energy sys…
We report a practical non-postselection entanglement concentration scheme in which a maximally entangled Bell-state photon pair is produced from two pairs of partially (or non-maximally) entangled photons. Since this scheme is built only upon linear optical elements and does not require photon-number resolving detectors, it has immediate applications in experimental implementations of various quantum information protocols which require two-photon Bell-states.
We study the entanglement entropy and entanglement spectrum of the paradigmatic Bose-Hubbard model, describing strongly correlated bosons on a lattice. The use of a controlled approximation - the slave-boson approach - allows us to study entanglement in all regimes of the model (and, most importantly, across its superfluid/Mott-insulator transition) at a minimal cost. We find that the area-law scaling of entanglement -- verified in all the phases -- exhibits a sharp singularity at the transition. The singularity is greatly enhanced when the transition is crossed at fixed, integer filling, due …
An investigation is reported of the collective effects and the dynamics of atom atom entanglement in a system of two distant two level atoms which are coupled via an optical element. In the system under consideration, the two atoms, which are trapped in the foci of a lens, are coupled to a common environment being in the vacuum state and they emit photons spontaneously. A fraction of the emitted photons from each atom is thus focused on the position of the other atom. The presence of optical element between two distant atoms leads to the occurrence of delayed collective effects, such as delaye…
Fracton models exhibit a variety of exotic properties and lie beyond the conventional framework of gapped topological order. In a previous work, we generalized the notion of gapped phase to one of foliated fracton phase by allowing the addition of layers of gapped two-dimensional resources in the adiabatic evolution between gapped three-dimensional models. Moreover, we showed that the X-cube model is a fixed point of one such phase. In this paper, according to this definition, we look for universal properties of such phases which remain invariant throughout the entire phase. We propose multi-p…
We demonstrate the connection between an operator's matrix element distribution and entangling power via numerical simulations of random, pseudo-random, and quantum chaotic operators. Creating operators with a random distribution of matrix elements is more difficult than creating operators that reproduce other statistical properties of random matrices. Thus, operators that fulfill many random matrix statistical properties may not generate states of high multi-partite entanglement. To quantify the randomness of various statistical distributions and, by extension, entangling power, we use proper…
We study the bipartite von Neumann entropy of two particles interacting via a long-range scale-free potential $V(r)\sim -g/r^2$ in three dimensions, close to the unbinding transition. The nature of the quantum phase transition changes from critical ($-3/4<g<1/4$) to first order ($g<-3/4$) with $g=-3/4$ as a multicritical point. Here we show that the entanglement entropy has different behaviours for the critical and the first order regimes. But still there exists an interesting multicritical scaling behaviour for all $g\in (-2<g<1/4)$ controlled by the $g=-3/4$ case.
Bipartite entanglement may be reduced if there are restrictions on allowed local operations. We introduce the concept of a generalized superselection rule (SSR) to describe such restrictions, and quantify the entanglement constrained by it. We show that ensemble quantum information processing, where elements in the ensemble are not individually addressable, is subject to the SSR associated with the symmetric group (the group of permutations of elements). We prove that even for an ensemble comprising many pairs of qubits, each pair described by a pure Bell state, the entanglement per element co…
We describe a scheme showing signatures of macroscopic optomechanical entanglement generated by radiation pressure in a cavity system with a massive movable mirror. The system we consider reveals genuine multipartite entanglement. We highlight the way the entanglement involving the inaccessible massive object is unravelled, in our scheme, by means of field-field quantum correlations.
We derive a general relation between the non-analyticities of the ground state energy and those of a subclass of the multipartite generalized global entanglement (GGE) measure defined by T. R. de Oliveira et al. [Phys. Rev. A 73, 010305(R) (2006)] for many-particle systems. We show that GGE signals both a critical point location and the order of a quantum phase transition (QPT). We also show that GGE allows us to study the relation between multipartite entanglement and QPTs, suggesting that multipartite but not bipartite entanglement is favored at the critical point. Finally, using GGE we were…
Entanglement entropy (EE), a fundamental conception in quantum information for characterizing entanglement, has been extensively employed to explore quantum phase transitions (QPTs). Although the conventional single-site mean-field (MF) approach successfully predicts the emergence of QPTs, it fails to include any entanglement. Here, for the first time, in the framework of a cluster MF treatment, we extract the signature of EE in the bosonic superfluid-insulator transitions. We consider a trimerized Kagome lattice of interacting bosons, in which each trimer is treated as a cluster, and implemen…
The existence of $1/2$ modes in the entanglement spectrum (ES) has been shown to be a powerful quantum-informative signature of boundary states of gapped topological phases of matter, e.g., topological insulators and topological superconductors, where the finite bulk gap allows us to establish a crystal-clear correspondence between $1/2$ modes and boundary states. Here we investigate the recently proposed higher-order Weyl semimetals (HOWSM), where bulk supports gapless higher-order Weyl nodes and boundary supports hinge arcs and Fermi arcs. We find that the aim of unambiguously identifying hi…
Recently, a number of two-participant all-versus-nothing Bell experiments have been proposed. Here, we give local realistic explanations for these experiments. More precisely, we examine the scenario where a participant swaps his entanglement with two other participants and then is removed from the experiment; we also examine the scenario where two particles are in the same light cone, i.e. belong to a single participant. Our conclusion is that, in both cases, the proposed experiments are not convincing proofs against local realism.
We analytically prove the necessary and sufficient criterion for the full separability of three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) diagonal states. The corresponding entanglement is exactly calculable for some GHZ diagonal states and is tractable for the others using the relative entropy of entanglement. We show that the biseparable criterion and the genuine entanglement are determined only by the biggest GHZ diagonal element regardless of all the other smaller diagonal elements. We have completely solved the entanglement problems of three-qubit GHZ diagonal states.
Based on the Pauli spin operators we develop the notion of the spin-correlation matrix for the two-qubit system. If this matrix is non-zero, the measure of the correlation between the qubits is the average of the non-zero elements. Trivially, for zero matrix the bipartite is uncorrelated. This criterion turns out to be a necessary and sufficient condition for the full correlation, where it includes information on both entanglement and correlation other than entanglement. Moreover, we discuss to what extent this criterion can give information on the entanglement of the system. The criterion is …
Motivated by recent experimental progress in the study of quantum systems far from equilibrium, we investigate the relation between several dynamical signatures of topology in the coherent time-evolution after a quantum quench. Specifically, we study the conditions for the appearance of entanglement spectrum crossings, dynamical quantum phase transitions, and dynamical Chern numbers. For non-interacting models, we show that in general there is no direct relation between these three quantities. Instead, we relate the presence of level crossings in the entanglement spectrum to localized boundary…
The transition from a gapless liquid to a gapped dimerized ground state that occurs in the frustrated antiferromagnetic Majumdar-Ghosh (or $J_1-J_2$ Heisenberg) model is revisited from the point of view of entanglement. We study the evolution of entanglement spectra, a "projected subspace" block entropy, and concurrence in the Schmidt vectors through the transition. The standard tool of Schmidt decomposition along with the existence of the unique MG point where the ground states are degenerate and known exactly, suggests the projection into two orthogonal subspaces that is useful even away fro…
Dissipative entanglement generation protocols embrace environmental interactions in order to generate long-lived entangled states. In this letter, we report on the anti-bunching dynamics for a pair of actively driven quantum emitters coupled to a shared dissipative plasmonic reservoir. We find that anti-bunching is a universal signature for entangled states generated by dissipative means and examine its use as an entanglement diagnostic. We discuss the experimental validation of plasmonically mediated entanglement generation by Hanbury Brown-Twiss interferometry with picosecond timing resoluti…
