It has been shown that finding generic Bell states diagonal entanglement witnesses (BDEW) for $d_{1}\otimes d_{2}\otimes ....\otimes d_{n}$ systems exactly reduces to a linear programming if the feasible region be a polygon by itself and approximately obtains via linear programming if the feasible region is not a polygon. Since solving linear programming for generic case is difficult, the multi-qubits, $2\otimes N$ and $3 \otimes 3$ systems for the special case of generic BDEW for some particular choice of their parameters have been considered. In the rest of this paper we obtain the optimal non decomposable entanglement witness for $3 \otimes 3$ system for some particular choice of its parameters. By proving the optimality of the well known reduction map and combining it with the optimal and non-decomposable 3 $\otimes$ 3 BDEW (named critical entanglement witnesses) the family of optimal and non-decomposable 3 $\otimes$ 3 BDEW have also been obtained. Using the approximately critical entanglement witnesses, some 3 $\otimes$ 3 bound entangled states are so detected. So the well known Choi map as a particular case of the positive map in connection with this witness via Jamiolkowski isomorphism has been considered which approximately is obtained via linear programming.
We analyze special class of bipartite states - so called Bell diagonal states. In particular we provide new examples of bound entangled Bell diagonal states and construct the class of entanglement witnesses diagonal in the magic basis.
Bell inequalities, considered within quantum mechanics, can be regarded as non-optimal witness operators. We discuss the relationship between such Bell witnesses and general entanglement witnesses in detail for the Bell inequality derived by Clauser, Horne, Shimony, and Holt (CHSH). We derive bounds on how much an optimal witness has to be shifted by adding the identity operator to make it positive on all states admitting a local hidden variable model. In the opposite direction, we obtain tight bounds for the maximal proportion of the identity operator that can be subtracted from such a CHSH w…
Two classes of Bell diagonal indecomposable entanglement witnesses in $\mathbb{C}^4 \otimes \mathbb{C}^4$ are considered. Within the first class, we find a generalization of the well-known Choi witness from $\mathbb{C}^3 \otimes \mathbb{C}^3$, while the second one contains the reduction map. Interestingly, contrary to $\mathbb{C}^3 \otimes \mathbb{C}^3$ case, the generalized Choi witnesses are no longer optimal. We perform an optimization procedure of finding spanning vectors, that eventually gives rise to optimal witnesses. Operators from the second class turn out to be optimal, however, with…
We provide a class of Bell diagonal entanglement witnesses displaying an additional local symmetry -- a maximal commutative subgroup of the unitary group U(n). Remarkably, this class of witnesses is parameterized by a torus being a maximal commutative subgroup of an orthogonal group SO(n-1). It is shown that a generic element from the class defines an indecomposable entanglement witness. The paper provides a geometric perspective for some aspects of the entanglement theory and an interesting interplay between group theory and block-positive operators.
Using the Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) decomposition we suggest new possible choices of Bell operators and entanglement witnesses (EW ) for n (>2) qubits systems for (full/bi) separability. The latter give upper bounds for (full/bi) separability. Also using the HS decomposition, we find explicitly (full/bi) separable forms for some qubits states which give lower bounds for (full/bi) separability. When the lower bounds and upper bounds coincide it means that the EW is optimal. In the case of full separability, the positive transpose method can sometimes give optimal results. As concrete examples, we gi…
We present a simple family of Bell inequalities applicable to a scenario involving arbitrarily many parties, each of which performs two binary-outcome measurements. We show that these inequalities are members of the complete set of full-correlation Bell inequalities discovered by Werner-Wolf-Zukowski-Brukner. For scenarios involving a small number of parties, we further verify that these inequalities are facet-defining for the convex set of Bell-local correlations. Moreover, we show that the amount of quantum violation of these inequalities naturally manifests the extent to which the underlyin…
One of the important approaches to detect quantum entanglement is using linear entanglement witnesses EWs. In this paper, by determining the envelope of the boundary hyper-planes defined by a family of linear EWs, a set of powerful nonlinear optimal EWs is manipulated. These EWs enable us to detect some three qubits bound MUB (mutually unbiased bases) diagonal entangled states, i.e., the PPT (positive partial transpose) entangled states. Also, in some particular cases, the introduced nonlinear optimal EWs are powerful enough to separate the bound entangled regions from the separable ones. Fina…
In a recent paper, Bancal et al. put forward the concept of device-independent witnesses of genuine multipartite entanglement. These witnesses are capable of verifying genuine multipartite entanglement produced in a lab without resorting to any knowledge of the dimension of the state space or of the specific form of the measurement operators. As a by-product they found a three-party three-setting Bell inequality which enables to detect genuine tripartite entanglement in a noisy 3-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state for visibilities as low as 2/3 in a device-independent way. In this p…
While the interest in multipartite nonlocality has grown in recent years, its existence in large quantum systems is difficult to confirm experimentally. This is mostly due to the inadequacy of standard multipartite Bell inequalities to many-body systems: such inequalities usually rely on expectation values involving many parties and require an individual addressing of each party. In a recent work [J. Tura et al. Science 344, 6189 (2014)] some of us proposed simpler Bell inequalities overcoming such difficulties, opening the way for the detection of Bell correlations with trusted collective mea…
We propose a scheme for identifying an unknown Bell diagonal state. In our scheme the measurements are performed on the probe qubits instead of the Bell diagonal state. The distinguished advantage is that the quantum state of the evolved Bell diagonal state ensemble plus probe states will still collapse on the original Bell diagonal state ensemble after the measurement on probe states, i.e. our identification is quantum-state nondestructive. It is also shown finally how to realize our scheme in the framework of cavity electrodynamics.
It was shown in Phys. Rev. Lett., 87, 230402 (2001) that N (N >= 4) qubits described by a certain one parameter family F of bound entangled states violate Mermin-Klyshko inequality for N >= 8. In this paper we prove that the states from the family F violate Bell inequalities derived in Phys. Rev. A, 56, R1682 (1997), in which each observer measures three non-commuting sets of orthogonal projectors, for N >=7. We also derive a simple one parameter family of entanglement witnesses that detect entanglement for all the states belonging to F. It is possible that these new entanglement witnesses cou…
Two kinds of Bell-states diagonal (BSD) entanglement witnesses (EW) are constructed by using the algebra of Dirac $γ$ matrices in the space-time of arbitrary dimension $d$, where the first kind can detect some BSD relativistic and non-relativistic $m$-partite multispinor bound entangled states in Hilbert space of dimension $2^{m\lfloor d/2\rfloor}$, including the bipartite Bell-type and iso-concurrence type states in the four-dimensional space-time ($d=4$). By using the connection between Hilbert-Schmidt measure and the optimal EWs associated with states, it is shown that as far as the spin qu…
A decomposition form is introduced in this report to establish a criterion for the bi-partite separability of Bell diagonal states. A such criterion takes a quadratic form of the coefficients of a given Bell diagonal states and can be derived via a simple algorithmic calculation of its invariants. In addition, the criterion can be extended to a quantum system of higher dimension.
We study the relation between semi and fully device independent protocols. As a tool, we use the correspondence between Bell inequalities and dimension witnesses. We present a method for converting the former into the latter and vice versa. This relation provides us with interesting results for both scenarios. First, we find new random number generation protocols with higher bit rates for both the semi and fully device independent cases. As a byproduct, we obtain whole new classes of Bell inequalities and dimension witnesses. Then, we show how optimization methods used in studies on Bell inequ…
We study the curves of coherence for the Bell-diagonal states including $l_{1}$-norm of coherence and relative entropy of coherence under the Markovian channels in the first subsystem once. For a special Bell-diagonal state under bit-phase flip channel, we find frozen coherence under $l_{1}$ norm occurs, but relative entropy of coherence decrease. It illustrates that the occurrence of frozen coherence depends on the type of the measure of coherence. We study the coherence evolution of Bell-diagonal states under Markovian channels in the first subsystem $n$ times and find coherence under depola…
The fact that nonlocality implies steering enables one to certify steerability by using a Bell inequality violation. Such a certification is device-independent (DI), i.e., one makes no assumption neither on the underlying state nor on the measurements. However, not all steerable states can violate a Bell inequality. Here, we systematically construct a collection of witnesses for steerable resources, defined by assemblages, in a measurement-device-independent (MDI) scenario. The inputs driving the measurement are replaced by a set of tomographically complete quantum states, and neither the dete…
The general conditions are discussed which quantum state purification protocols have to fulfill in order to be capable of purifying Bell-diagonal qubit-pair states, provided they consist of steps that map Bell-diagonal states to Bell-diagonal states and they finally apply a suitably chosen Calderbank-Shor-Steane code to the outcome of such steps. As a main result a necessary and a sufficient condition on asymptotic correctability are presented, which relate this problem to the magnitude of a characteristic exponent governing the relation between bit and phase errors under the purification step…
The set of Bell-diagonal states for two qubits can be depicted as a tetrahedron in three dimensions. We consider the level surfaces of entanglement and quantum discord for Bell-diagonal states. This provides a complete picture of the structure of entanglement and discord for this simple case and, in particular, of their nonanalytic behavior under decoherence. The pictorial approach also indicates how to show that discord is neither convex nor concave.
The class of two-qubit Bell-diagonal states has been the workhorse for developing understanding about the geometry, dynamics, and applications of quantum resources. In this article, we present a quantum circuit for preparing Bell-diagonal states on a quantum computer in a tunable way. We implement this quantum circuit using the IBM Q 5 Yorktown quantum computer and, as an application example, we measure the non-local, steering, entanglement, and discord quantum correlations and non-local quantum coherence of Werner states.
We investigate the steerability of two-qubit Bell-diagonal states under projective measurements by the steering party. In the simplest nontrivial scenario of two projective measurements, we solve this problem completely by virtue of the connection between the steering problem and the joint-measurement problem. A necessary and sufficient criterion is derived together with a simple geometrical interpretation. Our study shows that a Bell-diagonal state is steerable by two projective measurements iff it violates the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality, in sharp contrast with the strict hi…
The concept of asymptotic correctability of Bell-diagonal quantum states is generalised to elementary quantum systems of higher dimensions. Based on these results basic properties of quantum state purification protocols are investigated which are capable of purifying tensor products of Bell-diagonal states and which are based on $B$-steps of the Gottesman-Lo-type with the subsequent application of a Calderbank-Shor-Steane quantum code. Consequences for maximum tolerable error rates of quantum cryptographic protocols are discussed.

In this study, using the concept of relative entropy as a distance measure of cor- relations we investigate the important issue of evaluating quantum correlations such as entanglement, dissonance and classical correlations for 2n-dimensional Bell-diagonal states. We provide an analytical technique, which describes how we find the closest classical states(CCS) and the closest separable states(CSS) for these states. Then analytical results are obtained for quantum discord of 2n-dimensional Bell-diagonal states. As illustration, some special cases are examined. Finally, we investigate the additiv…
We present a generalized tomographic quantum key distribution protocol in which the two parties share a Bell diagonal mixed state of two qubits. We show that if an eavesdropper performs a coherent measurement on many quantum ancilla states simultaneously, classical methods of secure key distillation are less effective than quantum entanglement distillation protocols. We also show that certain Bell diagonal states are resistant to any attempt of incoherent eavesdropping.
We study the degree to which the coherence of quantum states is affected by noise. We give the definition of the $n$-th decay rate and investigate the coherence of Bell-diagonal states under $n$ iterations of channels. We derive explicit formulas of the $n$-th decay rates based on $l_1$ norm of coherence, relative entropy of coherence and skew information-based coherence. It is found that the larger $n$ is, the faster the $n$-th decay rate decreases as the parameter $p$ of Bell-diagonal states increases. Moreover, for any fixed $n$, with the increase of $p$, Bell-diagonal states can be complet…
We show how nonclassical correlations in local bipartite states can act as a resource for quantum information processing. Considering the task of quantum random access codes (RAC) through separable Bell-diagonal states, we demonstrate the advantage of superunsteerability over classical protocols assisted with two-bits of shared randomness. We propose a measure of superunsteerability, which quantifies nonclassicality beyond quantum steering, and obtain its analytical expression for Bell-diagonal states in the context of the two- and three-setting steering scenarios that are directly related to …
The Gell-Mann $λ$ matrices for Lie algebra su(3) are the natural basis for the Hilbert space of Hermitian operators acting on the states of a three-level system(qutrit). So the construction of EWs for two-qutrit states by using these matrices may be an interesting problem. In this paper, several two-qutrit EWs are constructed based on the Gell-Mann matrices by using the linear programming (LP) method exactly or approximately. The decomposability and non-decomposability of constructed EWs are also discussed and it is shown that the $λ$-diagonal EWs presented in this paper are all decomposable b…
The present work is motivated by the question as to what aspect of correlation entailed by the two-qubit state serves as the appropriate quantitative resource for steering. To this end, considering Bell-diagonal states, suitable measures of simultaneous correlations in two and three complementary (mutually unbiased) bases are identified as the relevant resources for quantum steering. Quantitative relations between appropriate measures of quantum steering and the corresponding measures of simultaneous correlations in complementary bases are demonstrated which ensure that for two qubit steerable…
Two-qubit Bell-diagonal states can be depicted as a tetrahedron in three dimensions. We investigate the structure of quantum resources, including coherence and quantum discord, in the tetrahedron. The ordering of different resources measures is a common problem in resource theories, and which measure should be chosen to investigate the structure of resources is still an open question. We consider the structure of quantum resources which is not affected by the choice of measure. Our work provides a complete structure of coherence and quantum discord for Bell-diagonal states. The pictorial appro…
We provide a simple class of 2-qudit states for which one is able to formulate necessary and sufficient conditions for separability. As a byproduct we generalize well known construction provided by Horodecki et al. for d=3. It is hoped that these states with known separability/entanglement properties may be used to test various notions in entanglement theory.
A recently proposed test of quantumness [R. Alicki and N. Van Ryn, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 41 062001 (2008)] is put into a broader mathematical and physical perspective. The notion of quantumness witness is introduced, in analogy to entanglement witness, and illustrated by examples of a single qubit and many-body systems with additive observables. We compare also our proposal with the quantumness test based on quantum correlations (entanglement) and Bell inequalities. A class of quantumness witnesses associated to the phase space representation is also discussed.
One of the many bizarre features of entanglement is that Alice, by sending a qubit to Bob in a separable state, can generate some entanglement between herself and Bob. This protocol is stripped down to the bare essentials to better elucidate the key properties of the initial resource state that enable this entanglement distribution. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which the correlations of a Bell-diagonal state serve as a useful resource are proven, giving upper and lower bounds on the entanglement that can be distributed when those conditions are met.
We show how to detect entangled, bound entangled, and separable bipartite quantum states of arbitrary dimension and mixedness using geometric entanglement witnesses. These witnesses are constructed using properties of the Hilbert-Schmidt geometry and can be shifted along parameterized lines. The involved conditions are simplified using Bloch decompositions of operators and states. As an example we determine the three different types of states for a family of two-qutrit states that is part of the "magic simplex", i.e. the set of Bell-state mixtures of arbitrary dimension.
We compare the classification as entangled or separable of Bell diagonal bipartite qudits with positive partial transposition (PPT) and their properties for different dimensions. For dimension $d \geq 3$, a form of entanglement exists that is hard to detect and called bound entanglement due to the fact that such entangled states cannot be used for entanglement distillation. Up to this date, no efficient solution is known to differentiate bound entangled from separable states. We address and compare this problem named separability problem for a family of bipartite Bell diagonal qudits with spec…
Classical bounds on two-outcome bipartite Bell expressions and linear prepare-and-measure witnesses: Efficient computation in parallel environments such as graphics processing units
Genuine multipartite entanglement represents the strongest type of entanglement, which is an essential resource for quantum information processing. Standard methods to detect genuine multipartite entanglement, e.g., entanglement witnesses, state tomography, or quantum state verification, require full knowledge of the Hilbert space dimension and precise calibration of measurement devices, which are usually difficult to acquire in an experiment. The most radical way to overcome these problems is to detect entanglement solely based on the Bell-like correlations of measurement outcomes collected i…
We propose a method of constructing the separability criteria for multipartite quantum states on the basis of entanglement witnesses. The entanglement witnesses are obtained by finding the maximal expectation values of Hermitian operators and then optimizing over all possible Hermitian operators. We derive a set of tripartite separability criteria for the four-qubit Greenberger--Horne--Zeilinger (GHZ) diagonal states. The derived criterion set contains four criteria that are necessary and sufficient for the tripartite separability of the highly symmetric four-qubit GHZ diagonal states; the cri…
We show how the spatial macroscopic entanglement equivalent to the off diagonal long range order (ODLRO) implies the Meissner effect and flux quantisation for a superconductor. It is argued by analogy with superconductors that the Higgs field must also be entangled in the same way. Internal (spin) entanglement is shown to be irrelevant within this context, although it can of course also be computed.
Entanglement witnesses such as Bell inequalities are frequently used to prove the non-classicality of a light source and its suitability for further tasks. By demonstrating Bell inequality violations using classical light in common experimental arrangements, we highlight why strict locality and efficiency conditions are not optional, particularly in security-related scenarios.
We explore the polytope structures for genuine entanglement, biseparability, full biseparability and Bell inequality of multi-qubit GHZ diagonal states. We first show that biseparable GHZ diagonal states make hypersimplices inside the simplices consisting of all GHZ diagonal states. Next, we consider full biseparability which is equivalent to positive partial transpose for GHZ diagonal states, and show that they make the convex hulls of simplices and cubes. We also visualize which part of the simplex violates multipartite Bell inequality. Finally, we compute precise volumes for genuine entangl…
How to detect quantum correlations in bi-partite scenarios using a split many-body system and collective measurements on each party? We address this question by deriving entanglement witnesses using either only first or first and second order moments of local collective spin components. In both cases, we derive optimal witnesses for spatially split spin squeezed states in the presence of local white noise. We then compare the two optimal witnesses with respect to their resistance to various noise sources operating either at the preparation or at the detection level. We finally evaluate the sta…
We consider the characterization of entanglement depth in a quantum many-body system from the device-independent perspective; i.e., certifying how many particles are genuinely entangled without relying on assumptions on the system itself nor on the measurements performed. We obtain device-independent witnesses of entanglement depth (DIWEDs) using the Bell inequalities introduced in [J. Tura et al., Science 344, 1256 (2014)] and compute their $k$-producibility bounds. To this end, we present two complementary methods: First, a variational one, yielding a possibly optimal $k$-producible state. S…
The optimal entanglement manipulation for a single copy of mixed states of two qubits is to transform it to a Bell diagonal state. In this paper we derive an explicit form of the local operation that can realize such a transformation. The result obtained is universal for arbitrary entangled two-qubit states and it discloses that the corresponding local filter is not unique for density matrices with rank $n=2$ and can be exclusively determined for that with $n=3$ and 4. As illustrations, a four-parameters family of mixed states are explored, the local filter as well as the transformation probab…
With a probability of success of $95 \%$ we solve the separability problem for Bell diagonal qutrit states with positive partial transposition (PPT). The separability problem, i.e. distinguishing separable and entangled states, generally lacks an efficient solution due to the existence of bound entangled states. In contrast to free entangled states that can be used for entanglement distillation via local operations and classical communication, these states cannot be detected by the Peres-Horodecki criterion or PPT criterion. We analyze a large family of bipartite qutrit states that can be sepa…
The phenomenon of quantum steering in bipartite quantum systems can be reduced to the question whether or not the first party can perform measurements such that the conditional states on the second party can be explained by a local hidden state model. Clearly, the answer to this depends on the measurements which the first party is able to perform. We introduce a local hidden state model explaining the conditional states for all generalized measurements on Bell-diagonal states of two qubits. More precisely, it is known for the restricted case of projective measurements and Bell-diagonal states …
We demonstrate an efficient experimental procedure based on entanglement swapping to determine the Bell nonlocality measure of Horodecki et al. [Phys. Lett. A 200, 340 (1995)] and the fully-entangled fraction of Bennett et al. [Phys. Rev. A 54, 3824 (1996)] of an arbitrary two-qubit polarization-encoded state. The nonlocality measure corresponds to the amount of the violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) optimized over all measurement settings. By using simultaneously two copies of a given state, we measure directly only six parameters. Our method requires neither full quantum stat…
Local available quantum correlations (LAQCs), as defined by Mundarain et al. [19], are analytically determined for Bell Diagonal states. Using the Kraus operators formalism [10], we analyze the dissipative dynamics of 2-qubit LAQCs under markovian decoherence. This is done for Werner states under the depolarizing [20] and phase damping channels [21]. Since Werner states are among those that exhibit the so called entanglement sudden death [27], the results are compared with the ones obtained for Quantum Discord [22], as analyzed by Werlang et al. [24], as well as for entanglement, i.e. Concurre…
We emphasize the Bell state analyzer, a beamsplitter, as an efficient means of detecting two-photon polarization entanglement. Whereas the optimal entanglement witness for spatially separated photons requires coordinated measurement in three bases, the local Bell state analyzer enables an efficient entanglement witness in a single polarization basis. We use Bayesian mean estimation to compare the efficiency of these two witnesses. We report the method and results of this comparison.
Quantum entanglement is a fascinating phenomenon, especially if it is observed at the macroscopic scale. Importantly, macroscopic quantum correlations can be revealed only by accurate measurement outcomes and strategies. Here, we formulate feasible entanglement witnesses for bright squeezed vacuum in the form of the macroscopically populated polarization triplet Bell states. Their testing involves efficient photodetection and the measurement of the Stokes operators variances. We also calculate the measures of entanglement for these states such as the Schmidt number and the logarithmic negativi…
For a bipartite entangled state shared by two observers, Alice and Bob, Alice can affect the post-measured states left to Bob by choosing different measurements on her half. Alice can convince Bob that she has such an ability if and only if the unnormalized postmeasured states cannot be described by a local-hidden-state (LHS) model. In this case, the state is termed steerable from Alice to Bob. By converting the problem to construct LHS models for two-qubit Bell diagonal states to the one for Werner states, we obtain the optimal models given by Jevtic \textit{et al.} [J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 32, A4…
We propose "super one-way deficit" by weak measurement as the generalization of one-way deficit defined for standard projective measurement. The super one-way deficit for Werner state is obtained analytically. We find that super one-way deficit is smaller than the standard one-way deficit, which contrasts with a straightforward expectation based on the known fact that super-quantum discord by weak measurement is always larger than the quantum discord defined by projective measurement. On the other hand, by tuning the weak measurement continuously to the projective measurement, both super one-w…
