Two electron interference experiments which are far from each other are considered. They are irradiated with correlated nonclassical electromagnetic fields, produced by the same source. The phase factors are in this case operators, and their expectation values with respect to the density matrix of the electromagnetic field quantify the observed electron fringes. The correlated photons create correlations between the observed electron intensities. Both cases of classically correlated (separable) and quantum mechanically correlated (entangled) electromagnetic fields are considered. It is shown that the induced correlation between the distant electron interferences is sensitive to the nature of the correlation between the irradiating photons.
We show that it is possible to generate entanglement between two distant Bose-Einstein condensates by detection of Hanbury Brown-Twiss type correlations in photons Bragg-scattered by the condensates. Upon coincident detection of two photons by two detectors, the projected joint state of two condensates is shown to be non-Gaussian. We verify the existence of entanglement by showing that the partially transposed state is negative. Further we use the inequality in terms of higher order moments to confirm entanglement. Our proposed scheme can be generalized for multiple condensates and also for sp…
An experiment that involves two distant mesoscopic SQUID rings is studied. The superconducting rings are irradiated with correlated photons, which are produced by a single microwave source. Classically correlated (separable) and quantum mechanically correlated (entangled) microwaves are considered, and their effect on the Josephson currents is quantified. It is shown that the currents tunnelling through the Josephson junctions in the distant rings, are correlated.
We propose a scheme to realize heralded quantum entanglement between two distant matter qubits using two $Λ$ atom systems. Our proposal does not need any photon interference. We also present a general theory of outcome state of non-monochromatic incident light and finite interaction time.
We propose a scheme to generate an effective interaction of arbitrary strength between the internal degrees of freedom of two atoms placed in distant cavities connected by an optical fiber. The strength depends on the field intensity in the cavities. As an application of this interaction, we calculate the amount of entanglement it generates between the internal states of the distant atoms. The scheme effectively converts entanglement distribution networks to networks of interacting spins.
We show how to apply Lyapunov control design to the problem of entanglement creation between two atoms in distant cavities connected by optical fibers. The Lyapunov control design is optimal in the sense that the distance from the target state decreases monotonically and exponentially, and the concurrence increases accordingly. This method is far more robust than simple geometric schemes.
We theoretically investigate the stability of a two cascaded cavity optomechanical system with optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs) inside the two coupled cavities, and study the steady-state entanglement between two distant mechanical resonators. We show that the parameter regime where the system is unstable without OPAs, such as relatively high laser intensity and blue detuning, can be exploited to build the steady-state mechanical entanglement by modulating the parametric gain. The application of OPAs is helpful to preserve the mechanical entanglement suffered from the dissipation at some f…
A recently proposed purification method, in which the Zeno-like measurements of a subsystem can bring about a distillation of another subsystem in interaction with the former, is utilized to yield entangled states between distant systems. It is shown that the measurements of a two-level system locally interacting with other two spatially separated not coupled subsystems, can distill entangled states from the latter irrespectively of the initial states of the two subsystems.
We show how the entanglement of two atoms, trapped in distant separate cavities, can be generated with arbitrarily high probability of success. The scheme proposed employs sudden excitation of the atoms proving that the weakly driven condition is not necessary to obtain the success rate close to unity. The modified scheme works properly even if each cavity contains many atoms interacting with the cavity modes. We also show that our method is robust against the spontaneous atomic decay.
Preparing many body entangled states efficiently using available interactions is a challenging task. One solution may be to couple a system collectively with a probe that leaves residual entanglement in the system. We investigate the entanglement produced between two possibly distant qubits 1 and 2 that interact locally with a third qubit 3 under unitary evolution generated by pairwise Hamiltonians. For the case where the Hamiltonians commute, relevant to certain quantum nondemolition measurements, the entanglement between qubits 1 and 2 is calculated explicitly for several classes of initial …
We theoretically investigate the possibility to generate non-classical states of optical and mechanical modes of optical cavities, distant from each other. A setup comprised of two identical cavities, each with one fixed and one movable mirror and coupled by an optical fiber, is studied in detail. We show that with such a setup there is potential to generate entanglement between the distant cavities, involving both optical and mechanical modes. The scheme is robust with respect to dissipation, and nonlocal correlations are found to exist in the steady state at finite temperatures.
The mechanism for entanglement of two flux qubits each interacting with a single mode electromagnetic field is discussed. By performing a Bell state measurements (BSM) on photons we find the two qubits in an entangled state depending on the system parameters. We discuss the results for two initial states and take into consideration the influence of decoherence.
We propose a deterministic scheme for establishing hybrid Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) entanglement channel between a macroscopic mechanical oscillator and a magnon mode in a distant yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) sphere across about ten gigahertz of frequency difference. The system consists of a driven electromechanical cavity which is unidirectionally coupled to a distant electromagnonical cavity inside which a YIG sphere is placed. We find that far beyond the sideband-resolved regime in the electromechanical subsystem, stationary phonon-magnon EPR entanglement can be achieved. This is realized …
It is commonly believed that photon polarisation entanglement can only be obtained via pair creation within the same source or via postselective measurements on photons that overlapped within their coherence time inside a linear optics setup. In contrast to this, we show here that polarisation entanglement can also be produced by distant single photon sources in free space and without the photons ever having to meet, if the detection of a photon does not reveal its origin -- the which way information. In the case of two sources, the entanglement arises under the condition of two emissions in c…
We present the experimental characterization of two distant double-slit masks illuminated by chaotic light, in the absence of first-order imaging and interference. The scheme exploits second-order interference of light propagating through two indistinguishable pairs of {\it disjoint} optical paths passing through the masks of interest. The proposed technique leads to a deeper understanding of biphoton interference and coherence, and opens the way to the development of novel schemes for retrieving information on the relative position and the spatial structure of distant objects, which is of int…
We propose a scheme to create distant entangled atomic states. It is based on driving two (or more) atoms with a weak laser pulse, so that the probability that two atoms are excited is negligible. If the subsequent spontaneous emission is detected, the entangled state is created. We have developed a model to analyze the fidelity of the resulting state as a function of the dimensions and location of the detector, and the motional properties of the atoms.
We propose a scheme to utilize photons for ideal quantum transmission between atoms located at spatially-separated nodes of a quantum network. The transmission protocol employs special laser pulses which excite an atom inside an optical cavity at the sending node so that its state is mapped into a time-symmetric photon wavepacket that will enter a cavity at the receiving node and be absorbed by an atom there with unit probability. Implementation of our scheme would enable reliable transfer or sharing of entanglement among spatially distant atoms.
It is crucial for physical realization of quantum information networks to first establish entanglement among multiple space-separated quantum memories and then at a user-controlled moment to transfer the stored entanglement to quantum channels for distribution and conveyance of information. Here we present an experimental demonstration on generation, storage and transfer of deterministic quantum entanglement among three spatially separated atomic ensembles. The off-line prepared multipartite entanglement of optical modes is mapped into three distant atomic ensembles to establish entanglement o…
An investigation is reported of the collective effects and the dynamics of atom atom entanglement in a system of two distant two level atoms which are coupled via an optical element. In the system under consideration, the two atoms, which are trapped in the foci of a lens, are coupled to a common environment being in the vacuum state and they emit photons spontaneously. A fraction of the emitted photons from each atom is thus focused on the position of the other atom. The presence of optical element between two distant atoms leads to the occurrence of delayed collective effects, such as delaye…
We show that nonradiative interactions between atomic dipoles placed in a waveguide can give rise to deterministic entanglement at ranges much larger than their resonant wavelength. The range increases as the dipole-resonance approaches the waveguide's cutoff frequency, caused by the giant density of photon modes near cutoff, a regime where the standard (perturbative) Markov approximation fails. We provide analytical theories for both the Markovian and non-Markovian regimes, supported by numerical simulations, and discuss possible experimental realizations.
In this paper, a scheme for the generation of long-living entanglement between two distant Λ-type three-level atoms separately trapped in two dissipative cavities is proposed. In this scheme, two dissipative cavities are coupled to their own non-Markovian environments and two three-level atoms are driven by the classical fields. The entangled state between the two atoms is produced by performing Bell state measurement (BSM) on photons leaving the dissipative cavities. Using the time-dependent Schördinger equation, we obtain the analytical results for the evolution of the entanglement. It is re…
We theoretically study the non-equilibrium correlations and entanglement between distant semiconductor qubits in a one-dimensional coupled-mechanical-resonator chain. Each qubit is defined by a double quantum dot (DQD) and embedded in a mechanical resonator. The two qubits can be coupled, correlated and entangled through phonon transfer along the resonator chain. We calculate the non-equilibrium correlations and steady-state entanglement at different phonon-phonon coupling rates, and find a maximal steady entanglement induced by a population inversion. The results suggest that highly tunable c…
Promising access to high-speed quantum networks relies on the creation of high-dimensional entangled memories that provide quantum communication with higher capacity of noisy quantum channels, thereby reducing the transmission time of information. Yet, the distribution of multidimensional entanglement between remote memory nodes is still faintly investigated. We propose an experimentally feasible protocol of deterministic generation of high-dimensional entanglement between distant multi-level atoms confined in high-finesse optical cavities and driven by laser pulses. Three-dimensional entangle…
We study steady-state continuous variable entanglement in a three-mode optomechanical system consisting of an active optical cavity (gain) coupled to a passive optical cavity (loss) supporting a mechanical mode. For a driving laser which is blue-detuned, we show that coupling between optical and mechanical modes is enhanced in the unbroken-$\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry regime. We analyze the stability and this shows that steady-state solutions are more stable in the gain and loss systems. We use these stable solutions to generate distant entanglement between the mechanical mode and the optical field…
We suggest a method of entangling significantly the distant ends of a spin chain using minimal control. This entanglement between distant individual spins is brought about solely by exploiting the dynamics of an initial mixed state with Neel order if the lattice features nearest-neighbor XXZ interaction. There is no need to control single spins or to have engineered couplings or to pulse globally. The method only requires an initial nonadiabatic switch (a quench) between two Hamiltonians followed by an evolution under the second Hamiltonian. The scheme is robust to randomness of the couplings …
We present a proposal for heralded entanglement between two quantum dots via Hong--Ou--Mandel effect. Each of the quantum dots, drived off-resonance by two lasers, can be entangled with the coherent cavity mode. The output photons from the two coherent cavity modes interfering by a beamsplitter, we could entangle the two QDs with nearly unit success probability. Our scheme requires neither direct coupling between qubits nor the detection of single photons. Moreover the quantum dots do not need to have the same frequencies and coupling constants.
In composed quantum systems, the presence of local dissipative channels causes loss of coherence and entanglement at a rate that grows with the temperature of the reservoirs. However, here we show that if temperature is artificially added to the system, entanglement decay can be significantly slowed down or even suppressed conditioned on suitable local monitoring of the reservoirs. We propose a scheme to implement the joint reservoir monitoring applicable in different experimental setups like trapped ions, circuit and cavity QED or quantum dots coupled to nanowires and we analyze its general r…
The motion of two distant trapped particles or mechanical oscillators can be strongly coupled by light modes in a high finesse optical resonator. In a two mode ring cavity geometry, trapping, cooling and coupling is implemented by the same modes. While the cosine mode provides for trapping, the sine mode facilitates ground state cooling and mediates non-local interactions. For classical point particles the centre-of-mass mode is strongly damped and the individual momenta get anti-correlated. Surprisingly, quantum fluctuations induce the opposite effect of positively-correlated particle motion,…
We present a scalable quantum-bus-based device for generating the entanglement on microwave photons (MPs) in distant superconducting resonators (SRs). Different from the processors in previous works with some resonators coupled to a superconducting qubit (SQ), our device is composed of some 1D SRs $r_j$ which are coupled to the quantum bus (another common resonator $R$) in its different positions simply, assisted by superconducting quantum interferometer devices. By using the technique for catching and releasing a MP state in a 1D SR, it can work as an entanglement generator or a node in quant…
We study the emergence of bipartite entanglement between a pair of spins weakly connected to the ends of a linear disordered $XY$ spin-1/2 channel. We analyze how their concurrence responds to structural and on-site fluctuations embodied by long-range spatially-correlated sequences. We show that the end-to-end entanglement is very robust against disorder and asymmetries in the channel provided that the degree of correlations are strong enough and both entangling parties are tuned accordingly. Our results offer further alternatives in the design of stable quantum communication protocols via imp…
One of the main ingredients in most quantum information protocols is a reliable source of two entangled systems. Such systems have been generated experimentally several years ago for light but has only in the past few years been demonstrated for atomic systems. None of these approaches however involve two atomic systems situated in separate environments. This is necessary for the creation of entanglement over arbitrary distances which is required for many quantum information protocols such as atomic teleportation. We present an experimental realization of such distant entanglement based on an …
Recently, we have shown theoretically [1] as well as experimentally [2] how the phase of an electromagnetic field can be determined by measuring the population of either of the two states of a two-level atomic system excited by this field, via the so-called Bloch-Siegert oscillation resulting from the interference between the co- and counter-rotating excitations. Here, we show how a degenerate entanglement, created without transmitting any timing signal, can be used to teleport this phase information. This phase-teleportation process may be applied to achieve wavelength teleportation, which in…
Entangled quantum states in high-dimensional space show many advantages compared with entangled states in two-dimensional space. The former enable quantum communication with higher channel capacity, enable more efficient quantum-information processing, and are more feasible for closing the detection loophole in Bell test experiments. Establishing high-dimensional entangled memories is essential for long-distance communication, but its experimental realization is lacking. We experimentally established high-dimensional entanglement in orbital angular momentum space between two atomic ensembles s…
A simple scheme to prepare an entanglement between two separated qubits from a given mixed state is proposed. A single qubit (entanglement mediator) is repeatedly made to interact locally and consecutively with the two qubits through rotating-wave couplings and is then measured. It is shown that we need to repeat this kind of process only three times to establish a maximally entangled state directly from an arbitrary initial mixed state, with no need to prepare the state of the qubits in advance or to rearrange the setup step by step. Furthermore, the maximum yield realizable with this scheme …
In this work,We investigate the problem of secretly broadcasting of three-qubit entangled state between two distant partners. The interesting feature of this problem is that starting from two particle entangled state shared between two distant partners we find that the action of local cloner on the qubits and the measurement on the machine state vector generates three-qubit entanglement between them. The broadcasting of entanglement is made secret by sending the measurement result secretly using cryptographic scheme based on orthogonal states. Further we show that this idea can be extended to …
We propose an approach for collective enhancement of precision for remotely located optical lattice clocks and a way of generation of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state of remote clocks. Close to Heisenberg scaling of the clock precision with the number of clocks M can be achieved even for an optical channel connecting clocks with substantial losses. This scenario utilizes a collective quantum nondemolition measurement on clocks with parallel Bloch vectors for enhanced measurement precision. We provide an optimal network solution for distant clocks as well as for clocks positioned in close prox…
We describe a scheme that allows for the generation of any desired N-photon state on demand. Under ideal conditions, this requires only N single photon sources, laser pulses and linear optics elements. First, the sources should be initialised with the help of single-qubit rotations and repeat-until-success two-qubit quantum gates [Lim et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 030305 (2005)]. Afterwards, the state of the sources can be mapped onto the state of N newly generated photons whenever needed.
A hybrid quantum system consisting of spatially separated two-level atoms is studied. Two atoms do not interact directly, but they are coupled via an intermediate system which is consisting of a superconducting flux qubit interacting with a mechanical and an electrical resonator which are coupled to one of the atoms. Moreover, the superconducting flux qubit is driven by a classical microwave field. Applying the adiabatic elimination an effective Hamiltonian for the atomic subsystem is obtained. Our results demonstrate that the entanglement degradation decay as well as the fidelity decay in the…
We describe a protocol to entangle two qubits at a distance by using resonance fluorescence. The scheme makes use of the postselection of large and distinguishable fluorescence signals corresponding to entangled and unentangled qubit states and has the merits of both high success probability and high entanglement fidelity owing to the multiphoton nature. Our result shows that the entanglement generation is robust against photon fluctuations in the fluorescence signals for a wide range of driving fields. We also demonstrate that this new protocol has an average entanglement duration within the …
We introduce a modification of the standard entanglement swapping protocol where the generation of entanglement between two distant modes is realized and verified using only local optical measurements. We show, indeed, that a simple condition on the purity of the initial state involving also an ancillary mode is sufficient to guarantee the success of the protocol by local measurements {M. Abdi \textit{et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{109}, 143601 (2012)}]. We apply the proposed protocol to a tripartite optomechanical system where the never interacting mechanical modes become entangled and cer…
Quantum entanglement between distant qubits is an important feature of quantum networks. Distribution of entanglement over long distances can be enabled through coherently interfacing qubit pairs via photonic channels. Here, we report the realization of optically generated quantum entanglement between electron spin qubits confined in two distant semiconductor quantum dots. The protocol relies on spin-photon entanglement in the trionic $Λ$-system and quantum erasure of the Raman-photon path. The measurement of a single Raman photon is used to project the spin qubits into a joint quantum state w…
We study the problem of entangling two spins at the distant ends of a spin chain by exploiting the nonequilibrium dynamics of the system after a sudden global quench. As initial states we consider a canted/spiral order product state of the spins, and singlets of neighboring pairs of spins. We find that within the class of canted order initial states, no entanglement is generated at any time except for the special case of the Neel state. While an earlier work had shown that the Neel state is indeed an excellent starting resource for the dynamical generation of long distance entanglement, the cu…
Based on Lyapunov control theory in closed and open systems, we propose a scheme to generate W state of many distant atoms in the cavity-fiber-cavity system. In the closed system, the W state is generated successfully even when the coupling strength between the cavity and fiber is extremely weak. In the presence of atomic spontaneous emission or cavity and fiber decay, the photon-measurement and quantum feedback approaches are proposed to improve the fidelity, which enable efficient generation of high-fidelity W state in the case of large dissipation. Furthermore, the time-optimal Lyapunov con…
The realization of robust strong coupling and entanglement between distant quantum emitters (QEs) is very important for scalable quantum information processes. However, it is hard to achieve it based on conventional systems. Here, we propose theoretically and demonstrate numerically a scheme to realize such strong coupling and entanglement. Our scheme is based on the photonic crystal platform with topologically protected edge state and zero-dimensional topological corner cavities. When the QEs are put into topological cavities, the strong coupling between them can be fulfilled with the assista…
Entanglement is the central yet fleeting phenomena of quantum physics. Once being considered a peculiar counter-intuitive property of quantum theory it has developed into the most central element of quantum technology providing speed up to quantum computers, a path towards long distance quantum cryptography and increased sensitivity in quantum metrology. Consequently, there have been a number of experimental demonstration of entanglement between photons, atoms, ions as well as solid state systems like spins or quantum dots, superconducting circuits and macroscopic diamond. Here we experimental…
We evaluate the exact concurrence between any two spins in a cyclic XX chain of n spins placed in a uniform transverse magnetic field, both at zero and finite temperature, by means of the Jordan-Wigner transformation plus a number parity projected statistics. It is shown that while at T=0 there is always entanglement between any two spins in a narrow field interval before the transition to the aligned state, at low but non-zero temperatures the entanglement remains non-zero for arbitrarily high fields, for any pair separation L, although its magnitude decreases exponentially with the field. It…
We propose a dissipative scheme to prepare a three-dimensional entangled state for two atoms trapped in separate coupled cavities. Our work shows that both atomic spontaneous emission and cavity decay, which are two typical obstacles in unitary-dynamics-based schemes, could be utilized as resources for high-dimensional entangled state preparation without specifying initial state and controlling time precisely. Final numerical simulation with one group of experimental parameters indicates that the performance of our scheme is better than the unitary-dynamics-based scheme.
Establishing quantum entanglement between two distant parties is an essential step of many protocols in quantum information processing. One possibility for providing long-distance entanglement is to create an entangled composite state within a lab and then physically send one subsystem to a distant lab. However, is this the "cheapest" way? Here, we investigate the minimal "cost" that is necessary for establishing a certain amount of entanglement between two distant parties. We prove that this cost is intrinsically quantum, and is specified by quantum correlations. Our results provide an optima…
We produce polarization entangled states with variable degree of entanglement for twin photons. Entanglement in polarization is coupled to entanglement in position that produces transverse coincidence interference fringes. We show both theoretically and experimentally that, due to this coupling, we can use the interference pattern to measure the polarization degree of entanglement.
Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) defect centers in diamond are strong candidates to generate entangled states in solid-state environments even at room temperature. Quantum correlations in spatially separated NV systems, for distances between NVs ranging from a few nanometers to a few kilometers, have been recently reported. In the present work we consider the entanglement transfer from two- mode microwave squeezed (entangled) photons, which are in resonance with the two lowest NV electron spin states, to initially unentangled NV centers. We first demonstrate that the entanglement transfer process from qu…
We study the Kitaev model on a finite-size square lattice with periodic boundary conditions in one direction and open boundary conditions in the other. Based on the fact that the Majorana representation of Kitaev model is equivalent to a brick wall model under the condition $t=Δ=μ$, this system is shown to support perfect Majorana bound states which is in strong localization limit. By introducing edge-mode fermionic operator and pseudo-spin representation, we find that such edge modes are always associated with maximal entanglement between two edges of the tube, which is independent of the siz…
We propose a scheme for the generation of entangled states for two atoms trapped in separate cavities coupled to each other. The scheme is based on the competition between the unitary dynamics induced by the classical fields and the collective decays induced by the dissipation of two delocalized field modes. Under certain conditions, the symmetric or asymmetric entangled state is produced in the steady state. The analytical result shows that the distributed steady entanglement can be achieved with high fidelity independent of the initial state, and is robust against parameter fluctuations. We …
With quantum interference of two-path spontaneous emissions, we propose a novel scheme to coherently control the atom--photon momentum entanglement through atomic internal coherence. A novel phenomenon called ``momentum phase entanglement'' is reported, and we found, under certain conditions, that more controllable entangled state can be produced with super--high degree of entanglement.
We consider the dynamics of the photon states in distant resonators coupled to a common bus resonator at different positions. The frequencies of distant resonators from a common bus resonator are equally detuned. These frequency detunings are kept larger than the coupling strengths of each resonator to the common bus resonator to satisfy the dispersive interaction regime. In the dispersive regime, we show that the time dynamics of the system evolve to an arbitrary W-type state in a single step at various interaction times. Our results show that a one-step generation of arbitrary W-type states …
We study a general theory on the interference of two-photon wavepacket in a beam splitter. We find that the symmetry of two-photon spectrum plays an important role in the manners of interference. We distinguish the coalescence and anti-coalescence interferences, and prove that the anti-coalescence interference is the signature of photon entanglement.
A complementarity relation is shown between the visibility of interference and bipartite entanglement in a two qubit interferometric system when the parameters of the quantum operation change for a given input state. The entanglement measure is a decreasing function of the visibility of interference. The implications for quantum computation are briefly discussed.
