Each platonic solid defines a single-qubit positive operator valued measure (POVM) by interpreting its vertices as points on the Bloch sphere. We construct simple circuits for implementing this kind of measurements and other simple types of symmetric POVMs on one qubit. Each implementation consists of a discrete Fourier transform and some elementary quantum operations followed by an orthogonal measurement in the computational basis.
The construction of Bell inequalities based on Platonic and Archimedean solids (Quantum 4 (2020), 293) is generalized to the case of orbits generated by the action of some finite groups. A number of examples with considerable violation of Bell inequalities is presented.
The optimal N qubit states featuring highest sensitivity to small misalignment of cartesian reference frames are found using the Quantum Cramer-Rao bound. It is shown that the optimal states are supported on the symmetric subspace and hence are mathematically equivalent to a single spin J=N/2. Majorana representation of spin states is used to reveal a beautiful connection between the states optimal for aligning reference frames and the platonic solids.
In this paper we study the Platonic Bell inequalities for all possible dimensions. There are five Platonic solids in three dimensions, but there are also solids with Platonic properties (also known as regular polyhedra) in four and higher dimensions. The concept of Platonic Bell inequalities in the three-dimensional Euclidean space was introduced by Tavakoli and Gisin [Quantum 4, 293 (2020)]. For any three-dimensional Platonic solid, an arrangement of projective measurements is associated where the measurement directions point toward the vertices of the solids. For the higher dimensional regul…
We present a construction of highly entangled states defined on the topology of a platonic solid using tensor networks based on ancillary Absolute Maximally Entangled (AME) states. We illustrate the idea using the example of a quantum state based on AME(5,2) over a dodecahedron. We analyze the entropy of such states on many different partitions, and observe that they come on integer numbers and are almost maximal. We also observe that all platonic solids accept the construction of AME states based on Reed-Solomon codes since their number of facets, vertices and edges are always a prime number …
The Platonic solids is the name traditionally given to the five regular convex polyhedra, namely the tetradron, the octahedron, the cube, the icosahedron and the dodecahedron. Perhaps strongly boosted by the towering historical influence of their namesake, these beautiful solids have, in well over two millenia, transcended traditional boundaries and entered the stage in a range of disciplines. Examples include natural philosophy and mathematics from classical antiquity, scientific modeling during the days of the european scientific revolution and visual arts ranging from the renaissance to mod…
Optimal transport is one of the primary goals for designing efficient quantum networks. In this work, the maximum transport is investigated for three-dimensional quantum networks with Platonic geometries affected by dephasing and dissipative Markovian noise. The network and the environmental characteristics corresponding the optimal design are obtained and investigated for five Platonic networks with 4, 6, 8, 12, and 20 number of sites that one of the sites is connected to a sink site through a dissipative process. Such optimal designs could have various applications like switching and multipl…
We investigate the high-energy eigenvalue asymptotics quantum graphs consisting of the vertices and edges of the five Platonic solids considering two different types of the vertex coupling. One is the standard $δ$-condition, the other is the preferred-orientation one introduced in [ET18]. The aim is to provide another illustration of the fact that the asymptotic properties of the latter coupling are determined by the vertex parity by showing that the octahedron graph differs in this respect from the other four for which the edges at high energies effectively disconnect and the spectrum approac…
Optimal generalized measurements for state estimation are well understood. However, practical quantum state tomography is typically performed using a fixed set of projective measurements and the question of how to choose these measurements has been largely unexplored in the literature. In this work we develop theoretical asymptotic bounds for the average fidelity of pure qubit tomography using measurement sets whose axes correspond to vertices of Platonic solids. We also present complete simulations of maximum likelihood tomography for mixed qubit states using the Platonic solid measurements. …
In this paper we present the impact of classical electronics constraints on a solid-state quantum dot logical qubit architecture. Constraints due to routing density, bandwidth allocation, signal timing, and thermally aware placement of classical supporting electronics significantly affect the quantum error correction circuit's error rate. We analyze one level of a quantum error correction circuit using nine data qubits in a Bacon-Shor code configured as a quantum memory. A hypothetical silicon double quantum dot quantum bit (qubit) is used as the fundamental element. A pessimistic estimate of …
The first realization of solid state quantum computer was demonstrated recently by using artificial atoms -- transmons in superconducting resonator. Here, we propose a novel architecture of flexible and scalable quantum computer based on a waveguide circuit coupling many quantum nodes of controlled atomic ensembles. For the first time, we found the optimal practically attainable parameters of the atoms and circuit for 100{%} efficiency of quantum memory for multi qubit photon fields and confirmed experimentally the predicted perfect storage. Then we revealed self modes for reversible transfer …
We analyse the design and optimisation of quantum logic circuits suitable for the experimental demonstration of a three-qubit quantum computation prototype based on optically-controlled, solid-state quantum logic gates. In these gates, the interaction between two qubits carried by the electron-spin of donors is mediated by the optical excitation of a control particle placed in their proximity. First, we use a geometrical approach for analysing the entangling characteristics of these quantum gates. Then, using a genetic programming algorithm, we develop circuits for the refined Deutsch-Jozsa al…
Advanced control in Lambda ($Λ$) scheme of a solid state architecture of artificial atoms and quantized modes would allow the translation to the solid-state realm of a whole class of phenomena from quantum optics, thus exploiting new physics emerging in larger integrated quantum networks and for stronger couplings. However control solid-state devices has constraints coming from selection rules, due to symmetries which on the other hand yield protection from decoherence, and from design issues, for instance that coupling to microwave cavities is not directly switchable. We present two new schem…
Constructing compact quantum circuits for universal quantum gates on solid-state systems is crucial for quantum computing. We present some compact quantum circuits for a deterministic solid-state quantum computing, including the CNOT, Toffoli, and Fredkin gates on the diamond nitrogen-vacancy centers confined inside cavities, achieved by some input-output processes of a single photon. Our quantum circuits for these universal quantum gates are simple and economic. Moreover, additional electron qubits are not employed, but only a single-photon medium. These gates have a long coherent time. We di…

We investigate a hybrid quantum circuit where ensembles of cold polar molecules serve as long-lived quantum memories and optical interfaces for solid state quantum processors. The quantum memory realized by collective spin states (ensemble qubit) is coupled to a high-Q stripline cavity via microwave Raman processes. We show that for convenient trap-surface distances of a few $μ$m, strong coupling between the cavity and ensemble qubit can be achieved. We discuss basic quantum information protocols, including a swap from the cavity photon bus to the molecular quantum memory, and a deterministic …
Amorphous solids show surprisingly universal behaviour at low temperatures. The prevailing wisdom is that this can be explained by the existence of two-state defects within the material. The so-called standard tunneling model has become the established framework to explain these results, yet it still leaves the central question essentially unanswered -- what are these two-level defects? This question has recently taken on a new urgency with the rise of superconducting circuits in quantum computing, circuit quantum electrodynamics, magnetometry, electrometry and metrology. Superconducting circu…
It has been shown in earlier works that the vertices of Platonic solids are good measurement choices for tests of EPR-steering using isotropically entangled pairs of qubits. Such measurements are regularly spaced, and measurement diversity is a good feature for making EPR-steering inequalities easier to violate in the presence of experimental imperfections. However, such measurements are provably suboptimal. Here, we develop a method for devising optimal strategies for tests of EPR-steering, in the sense of being most robust to mixture and inefficiency (while still closing the detection loopho…
Reliable generation and measurement of triphoton states has yet to be achieved in laboratory. We give an overview of the problems in generating and measuring triphoton quantum states and analyze several protocols of quantum measurements, which allow for high precision of reconstruction when sizes of available statistical data samples are limited. The tomography procedure under investigation is based on root approach to state estimation. In particular, we use the generalized Fisher information matrix to assess the accuracy of the quantum state parameters measurement. We use tomographic protocol…
We generalize solid-state tight-binding techniques for the spectral analysis of large superconducting circuits. We find that tight-binding states can be better suited for approximating the low-energy excitations than charge-basis states, as illustrated for the interesting example of the current-mirror circuit. The use of tight binding can dramatically lower the Hilbert space dimension required for convergence to the true spectrum, and allows for the accurate simulation of larger circuits that are out of reach of charge basis diagonalization.
Scalable photonic quantum computing architectures pose stringent requirements on photonic processing devices. The need for low-loss high-speed reconfigurable circuits and near-deterministic resource state generators are some of the most challenging requirements. Here we develop an integrated photonic platform based on thin-film lithium niobate and interface it with deterministic solid-state single-photon sources based on quantum dots in nanophotonic waveguides. The generated photons are processed with low-loss circuits programmable at speeds of several GHz. We realize a variety of key photonic…
We present geometric methods for uniformly discretizing the continuous N-qubit Hilbert space. When considered as the vertices of a geometrical figure, the resulting states form the equivalent of a Platonic solid. The discretization technique inherently describes a class of pi/2 rotations that connect neighboring states in the set, i.e. that leave the geometrical figures invariant. These rotations are shown to generate the Clifford group, a general group of discrete transformations on N qubits. Discretizing the N-qubit Hilbert space allows us to define its digital quantum information content, a…
We demonstrate the transmission of single electron wavepackets from a clock-controlled source through an empty high-energy edge channel. The quantum dot source is loaded with single electrons which are then emitted with high kinetic energy ($\sim$150 meV). We find at high magnetic field that these electron can be transported over several microns without inelastic electron-electron or electron-phonon scattering. Using a time-resolved spectroscopic technique, we measure the electron energy and wavepacket size at picosecond time scales. We also show how our technique can be used to switch individ…
In the solid-state circuit QED system and based on the homodyne measurement in dispersive regime, we demonstrate that a homodyne-current-based feedback can create and stabilize highly entangled two-qubit states in the presence of moderate noisy environment. Particularly, we present an extended analysis for the current-based Markovian feedback, which leads to an improved filtered-current-based feedback scheme. We show that this is essential for us to achieve the desirable control effect in present system.
Highly entangled states called cluster states are a universal resource for measurement-based quantum computing (QC). Here we propose an efficient method for producing large cluster states using superconducting quantum circuits. We show that a large cluster state can be efficiently generated in just one step by turning on the inter-qubit coupling for a short time. Because the inter-qubit coupling is only switched on during the time interval for generating the cluster state, our approach is also convenient for preparing the initial state for each qubit and for implementing one-way QC via single-…
The quantum coherence of electronic quasiparticles underpins many of the emerging transport properties of conductors at small scales. Novel electronic implementations of quantum optics devices are now available with perspectives such as 'flying' qubit manipulations. However, electronic quantum interferences in conductors remained up to now limited to propagation paths shorter than $30\,μ$m, independently of the material. Here we demonstrate strong electronic quantum interferences after a propagation along two $0.1\,$mm long pathways in a circuit. Interferences of visibility as high as $80\%$ a…
Transferring the state of an information carrier from a sender to a receiver is an essential primitive in both classical and quantum communication and information processing. In a quantum process known as teleportation the unknown state of a quantum bit can be relayed to a distant party using shared entanglement and classical information. Here we present experiments in a solid-state system based on superconducting quantum circuits demonstrating the teleportation of the state of a qubit at the macroscopic scale. In our experiments teleportation is realized deterministically with high efficiency…
Solid state superconducting devices coupled to coplanar transmission lines offer an exquisite architecture for quantum optical phenomena probing as well as for quantum computation implementation, being the object of intense theoretical and experimental investigation lately. In appropriate conditions the transmission line radiation modes can get strongly coupled to a superconducting device with only two levels -for that reason called artificial atom or qubit. Employing this system we propose a hybrid two-quantum bit gate encoding involving quantum electromagnetic field qubit states prepared in …
We present a new model for the continuous measurement of a coupled quantum dot charge qubit. We model the effects of a realistic measurement, namely adding noise to, and filtering, the current through the detector. This is achieved by embedding the detector in an equivalent circuit for measurement. Our aim is to describe the evolution of the qubit state conditioned on the macroscopic output of the external circuit. We achieve this by generalizing a recently developed quantum trajectory theory for realistic photodetectors [P. Warszawski, H. M. Wiseman and H. Mabuchi, Phys. Rev. A_65_ 023802 (20…
We introduce a hybrid quantum-classical variational algorithm to simulate ground-state phase diagrams of frustrated quantum spin models in the thermodynamic limit. The method is based on a cluster-Gutzwiller ansatz where the wave function of the cluster is provided by a parameterized quantum circuit whose key ingredient is a two-qubit real XY gate allowing to efficiently generate valence-bonds on nearest-neighbor qubits. Additional tunable single-qubit Z- and two-qubit ZZ-rotation gates allow the description of magnetically ordered and paramagnetic phases while restricting the variational opti…
Quantum coherence in solid-state systems has been demonstrated in superconducting circuits and in semiconductor quantum dots. This has paved the way to investigate solid-state systems for quantum information processing with the potential benefit of scalability compared to other systems based on atoms, ions and photons. Coherent coupling of superconducting circuits to microwave photons, circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED), has opened up new research directions and enabled long distance coupling of qubits. Here we demonstrate how the electromagnetic field of a superconducting microwave resonat…
Interaction of solid state qubits with environmental degrees of freedom strongly affects the qubit dynamics, and leads to decoherence. In quantum information processing with solid state qubits, decoherence significantly limits the performances of such devices. Therefore, it is necessary to fully understand the mechanisms that lead to decoherence. In this review we discuss how decoherence affects two of the most successful realizations of solid state qubits, namely, spin-qubits and superconducting qubits. In the former, the qubit is encoded in the spin 1/2 of the electron, and it is implemented…
Motivated by recent experiments with Josephson-junction circuits, we analyze the influence of various noise sources on the dynamics of two-level systems at optimal operation points where the linear coupling to low-frequency fluctuations is suppressed. We study the decoherence due to nonlinear (quadratic) coupling, focusing on the experimentally relevant 1/f and Ohmic noise power spectra. For 1/f noise strong higher-order effects influence the evolution.
One of the key challenges in quantum information is coherently manipulating the quantum state. However, it is an outstanding question whether control can be realized with low error. Only gates from the Clifford group -- containing $π$, $π/2$, and Hadamard gates -- have been characterized with high accuracy. Here, we show how the Platonic solids enable implementing and characterizing larger gate sets. We find that all gates can be implemented with low error. The results fundamentally imply arbitrary manipulation of the quantum state can be realized with high precision, providing new practical p…
It is shown that strong driving of a quantum system substantially enhances the Lamb shift induced by broadband reservoirs which are typical for solid-state devices. By varying drive parameters the impact of environmental vacuum fluctuations with continuous spectral distribution onto system observables can be tuned in a distinctive way. This provides experimentally feasible measurement schemes for the Lamb shift in superconducting circuits based on Cooper pair boxes, where it can be detected either in shifted dressed transition frequencies or in pumped charge currents.
Circuit QED is a promising solid-state quantum computing architecture. It also has excellent potential as a platform for quantum control -- especially quantum feedback control -- experiments. However, the current scheme for measurement in circuit QED is low efficiency and has low signal-to-noise ratio for single shot measurements. The low quality of this measurement makes the implementation of feedback difficult, and here we propose two schemes for measurement in circuit QED architectures that can significantly improve signal-to-noise, and potentially achieve quantum limited measurement. Such …
We have designed and operated a superconducting tunnel junction circuit that behaves as a two-level atom: the ``quantronium''. An arbitrary evolution of its quantum state can be programmed with a series of microwave pulses, and a projective measurement of the state can be performed by a pulsed readout sub-circuit. The measured quality factor of quantum coherence Qphi=25000 is sufficiently high that a solid-state quantum processor based on this type of circuit can be envisioned.
