It is shown that a number of experiments designed to use entangled photon pairs in order to demonstrate the viability of quantum "teleportation" can, in fact, also be understood using disentanglement. Whether entangled or not, using an ensemble approach, the experiments can be explained without any non-local communication between Alice's photon and Bob's photon. Moreover, it is emphasized that entanglement maintains a symmetry property between the two photons that is absent in disentanglment, the symmetry being parity due to phase conerence.
We study a quantum theory based on two assumptions: In the intrinsic frame of reference of an isolated, macroscopic system, (i) the system has no global motion and is not entangled with any other system, (ii) time evolution of statevectors of systems outside the system satisfy Schrödinger equation. A process of collision-type interaction between a microscopic system and a macroscopic system is studied in an auxiliary frame of reference. In transforming the statevector of the two systems obtained in the auxiliary frame of reference to the intrinsic frame of reference of the macroscopic system, …
We consider spontaneous emission of two two-level atoms interacting with vacuum fluctuations. We study the process of disentanglement in this system and show the possibility of changing disentanglement time by local operations.
We discuss disentanglement of pure bipartite quantum states within the framework of the schemes developed for entanglement splitting and broadcasting of entanglement.
An entangled multipartite system coupled to a zero-temperature bath undergoes rapid disentanglement in many realistic scenarios, due to local, symmetry-breaking, differences in the particle-bath couplings. We show that locally controlled perturbations, addressing each particle individually, can impose a symmetry, and thus allow the existence of decoherence-free multipartite entangled systems in zero-temperature environments.
The simple stationary decoherence of a two-state quantum system is discussed from a new viewpoint of environmental entanglement. My work emphasizes that an unconditional local state must totally be disentangled from the rest of the universe. It has been known for long that the loss of coherence within the given local system is gradual. Also the quantum correlations between the local system and the rest of the universe are being destroyed gradually. I show that, differently from local decoherence, the process of environmental disentanglement may terminate in finite time. The time of perfect dis…
We consider a disentanglement process in which local properties of an entangled state are preserved, while the entanglement between the subsystems is erased. Sufficient conditions for a perfect disentanglement (into product states and into separable states) are derived, and connections to the conditions for perfect cloning and for perfect broadcasting are observed.
Started from local universal isotropic disentanglement, a threshold inequality on reduction factors is proposed, which is necessary and sufficient for this type of disentanglement processes. Furthermore, we give the conditions realizing ideal disentanglement processes provided that some information on quantum states is known. In addition, based on fully entangled fraction, a concept called inseparability correlation is presented. Some properties on inseparability correlation coefficient are studied.
We consider whether quantum coherence in the form of mutual entanglement between a pair of qubits is susceptible to decay that may be more rapid than the decay of the coherence of either qubit individually. An instance of potential importance for solid state quantum computing arises if embedded qubits (spins, quantum dots, Cooper pair boxes, etc.) are exposed to global and local noise at the same time. Here we allow separate phase-noisy channels to affect local and non-local measures of system coherence. We find that the time for decay of the qubit entanglement can be significantly shorter tha…
This article studies the decoherence induced on a system of two qubits by local interactions with a spin chain with nontrivial internal dynamics (governed by an XY Hamiltonian). Special attention is payed to the transition between two limits: one in which both qubits interact with the same site of the chain and another one where they interact with distant sites. The two cases exhibit different behaviours in the weak and strong coupling regimes: when the coupling is weak it is found that decoherence tends to decrease with distance, while for strong coupling the result is the opposite. Also, in …
We study the possibility of preventing finite-time disentanglement caused by dissipation by making use of "non-local quantum error correction. This is made in comparison of previous results, where was shown that "local" quantum error correction can delay disentanglement, but can also cause entanglement sudden death when is not originally present.
We relate disentanglement and decoherence rates in a pair of three-level atoms subjected to multi-local and collective pure dephasing noise acting in a preferred basis. The bipartite entanglement decay rate, as bounded from above by the negativity, is found to be greater than or equal to the dephasing-decoherence rates characterized by the decay of off-diagonal elements in the corresponding full density matrix describing the system or the reduced density matrix describing either qutrit, extending previous results for qubit pairs subject to such noise.
The dynamics of entanglement between three - level atoms coupled to the common vacuum is investigated. We show that the collective effects such as collective damping, dipole - dipole interaction and the cross coupling between orthogonal dipoles, play a crucial role in the process of creation of entanglement. In particular, the additional cross coupling enhances the production of entanglement. For the specific initial states we find that the effect of delayed sudden birth of entanglement, recently invented by Ficek and Tanas [Phys. Rev. A 77, o54301(2008)] in the case of two - level atoms, can …
Models of quantum disentanglement are developed for nanometer-scale molecular charge qubits (MCQs). Two MCQs, $A$ and $B$, are prepared in a Bell state and separated for negligible $A$-$B$ interactions. Interactions between the local environment and each MCQ unravels $A$-$B$ entanglement during coherent system+environment evolution. Three models are used for dynamics: (1) a previously-developed, numerical model, in which both $AB$ and environment $\mathcal{E}$ are modeled explicitly; (2) an exact, semi-analytic model, in which only the dynamics of $AB$ are calculated, and (3) an approximate mo…
We propose a charged falling particle in an AdS space as a holographic model of local charged quench generalizing model of arXiv:1302.5703. The quench is followed by evolving currents and inhomogeneous distribution of chemical potential. We derive the analytical formula describing the evolution of the entanglement entropy. At some characteristic time after the quench, we find that the entanglement shows a sharp dip. This effect is universal and independent of the dimension of the system. At finite temperature generalization of this model, we find that multiple dips and ramps appear.
We investigate the speed of disentanglement in the multiqubit systems under the local depolarizing channel, in which each qubit is independently coupled to the environment. We focus on the bipartition entanglement between one qubit and the remaining qubits constituting the system, which is measured by the negativity. For the two-qubit system, the speed for the pure state completely depends on its entanglement. The upper and lower bounds of the speed for arbitrary two-qubit states, and the necessary conditions for a state achieving them, are obtained. For the three-qubit system, we study the sp…
The entanglement dynamics of a pair of donor-based charge qubits is obtained in analytical form. The disentanglement is induced by off resonant scattering of acoustical phonons in the semiconductor host. According to our results a rather unusual recovery of entanglement occurs that depends on the geometrical configuration of the qubits. In addition, for large times a non-vanishing stationary entanglement is predicted. For the cases of one and two initial excitations a simple kinetic interpretation allows for an adequate analysis of the observed dynamics. Our results also reveal a direct relati…
We study the dynamics of disentanglement of two qubits initially prepared in a Bell state and coupled at different sites to an Ising transverse field spin chain (ITF) playing the role of a dynamic spin environment. The initial state of the whole system is prepared into a tensor product state $ρ_{Bell}\otimes ρ_{chain}$ where the state of the chain is taken to be given by the ground state $|G(λ_i)\rangle$ of the ITF Hamiltonian $H_E(λ_i)$ with an initial field $λ_i$. At time $t=0^+$, the strength of the transverse field is suddenly quenched to a new value $λ_f$ and the whole system (chain $+$ q…
We analyze rigorously the dynamics of the entanglement between two qubits which interact only through collective and local environments. Our approach is based on the resonance perturbation theory which assumes a small interaction between the qubits and the environments. The main advantage of our approach is that the expressions for (i) characteristic time-scales, such as decoherence, disentanglement, and relaxation, and (ii) observables are not limited by finite times. We introduce a new classification of decoherence times based on clustering of the reduced density matrix elements. The charact…
In his recent paper [arXiv:1104.1938], Bedingham discussed a hybrid between a theory of spontaneous wave function collapse and Bohmian mechanics. I offer a simpler way of conveying the substance of Bedingham's paper.
A polarization correlation experiment with two maximally entangled photons created by spontaneous parametric down-conversion is studied in the Weyl-Wigner formalism, that reproduces the quantum predictions. An interpretation is proposed in terms of stochastic processes assuming that the quantum vacuum fields are real. This proves that local realism is compatible with the violation of Bell inequalities, thus rebutting the claim that local realism has been refuted by entangled photon experiments. Entanglement appears as a correlation between fluctuations of a signal field and vacuum fields.
Non-Markovian local in time master equations give a relatively simple way to describe the dynamics of open quantum systems with memory effects. Despite their simple form, there are still many misunderstandings related to the physical applicability and interpretation of these equations. Here we clarify these issues both in the case of quantum and classical master equations. We further introduce the concept of a classical non-Markov chain signified through negative jump rates in the chain configuration.
We demonstrate how to construct a lorentz-invariant, hidden-variable interpretation of relativistic quantum mechanics based on particle trajectories. The covariant theory that we propose employs a multi-time formalism and a lorentz-invariant rule for the coordination of the space-time points on the individual particle trajectories. In this way we show that there is no contradiction between nonlocality and lorentz invariance in quantum mechanics. The approach is illustrated for relativistic bosons, using a simple model to discuss the individual non-locally correlated particle motion which ensue…
We introduce a new interpretation of quantum mechanics by examining the Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen's (EPR) paradox and Bell's inequality experiments under the assumption that the vacuum has an inhomogeneous texture for energy levels below the Heisenberg time-energy uncertainty relation. In this article, selected results from the most reliable Bell's inequality experiments will be quantitatively analyzed to show that our interpretation of quantum mechanics creates a new loophole in Bell's inequality, and that the past experimental findings do not contradict our new interpretation. Under the v…

A local description of quantum subsystems can be used to construct ontologies of the full quantum predictions. This paper communicates one possible way to do so. A retrocausal interpretation of quantum mechanics where the de Broglie-Bohm particles are the retrocausal agents is developed. This interpretation is constrained to be compatible with the existence of a local realist description of quantum subsystems.
Most physicists do not have patience for reading long and obscure interpretation arguments and disputes. Hence, to attract attention of a wider physics community, in this paper various old and new aspects of quantum interpretations are explained in a concise and simple (almost trivial) form. About the "Copenhagen" interpretation, we note that there are several different versions of it and explain how to make sense of "local non-reality" interpretation. About the many-world interpretation, we explain that it is neither local nor non-local, that it cannot explain the Born rule, that it suffers f…
