We simulate Grover's algorithm in a classical computer by means of a stochastic method using the Hubbard-Stratonovich decomposition of n-qubit gates into one-qubit gates integrated over auxiliary fields. The problem reduces to finding the fixed points of the associated system of Langevin differential equations. The equations are obtained automatically for any number of qubits by employing a computer algebra program. We present the numerical results of the simulation for a small search space.

We implement Grover's quantum search algorithm on a nuclear spin chain quantum computer, taking into Ising type interactions between nearest and second nearest neighbours into account. The performance of the realisation of the algorithm is studied by numerical simulations with four spins. We determine the temporal behaviour of the fidelity during the algorithm, and we compute the final fidelity as a function of the Rabi frequency. For the latter, we obtained pronounced maxima at frequencies which fulfil the condition of the (2πk)-method with respect to the second nearest neighbour interactions…
We consider Grover's search algorithm on a model quantum computer implemented on a chain of four or five nuclear spins with first and second neighbour Ising interactions. Noise is introduced into the system in terms of random fluctuations of the external fields. By averaging over many repetitions of the algorithm, the output state becomes effectively a mixed state. We study its overlap with the nominal output state of the algorithm, which is called fidelity. We find either an exponential or a Gaussian decay for the fidelity as a function of the strength of the noise, depending on the type of n…

In order to understand the bounds of utilization of the Grover's search algorithm for the large unstructured data in presence of the quantum computer noise, we undertake a series of simulations by inflicting various types of noise, modelled by the IBM QISKit. We apply three forms of Grover's algorithms: (1) the standard one, with 4-10 qubits, (2) recently published modified Grover's algorithm, set to reduce the circuit depth, and (3) the algorithms in (1) and (2) with multi-control Toffoli's modified by addition of an ancilla qubit. Based on these simulations, we find the upper bound of noise …
We study the effects of dissipation or leakage on the time evolution of Grover's algorithm for a quantum computer. We introduce an effective two-level model with dissipation and randomness (imperfections), which is based upon the idea that ideal Grover's algorithm operates in a 2-dimensional Hilbert space. The simulation results of this model and Grover's algorithm with imperfections are compared, and it is found that they are in good agreement for appropriately tuned parameters. It turns out that the main features of Grover's algorithm with imperfections can be understood in terms of two basi…

Availability of efficient quantum simulators will enable the researchers to quickly verify their results and concepts in order to establish a working proof of correctness. One important algorithm that has become one of the basic ingredients to build other algorithms and models is the Grover's search Algor…
Following the proposal by F. Yamaguchi et al.[Phys. Rev. A 66, 010302 (R) (2002)], we present an alternative way to implement the two-qubit Grover search algorithm in cavity QED. Compared with F. Yamaguchi et al.'s proposal, with a strong resonant classical field added, our method is insensitive to both the cavity decay and thermal field, and doesn't require that the cavity remain in the vacuum state throughout the procedure. Moreover, the qubit definitions are the same for both atoms, which makes the experiment easier. The strictly numerical simulation shows that our proposal is good enough t…
The work presents an amalgam of quantum search algorithm (QSA) and quantum secret sharing (QSS). The proposed QSS scheme utilizes Grover's three-particle quantum state. In this scheme, the dealer prepares an encoded state by encoding the classical information as a marked state and shares the states' qubits between three participants. The participants combine their qubits and find the marked state as a measurement result of the three-qubit state. The security analysis shows the scheme is stringent against malicious participants or eavesdroppers. In comparison to the existing schemes, our protoc…
The decoherence effect on Grover algorithm has been studied numerically through a noise modelled by a depolarizing channel. Two types of error are introduced characterizing the qubit time evolution and gate application, so the noise is directly related to the quantum network construction. The numerical simulation concludes an exponential damping law for the successive probability of the maxima as time increases. We have obtained an allowed-error law for the algorithm: the error threshold for the allowed noise behaves as Eth(N) ~ 1/N1.1 (N being the size of the data set). As the power of N is a…
For any symmetric key cryptosystem with $n$-bit secret key, the key can be recovered in $O(2^{n/2})$ exploiting Grover search algorithm, resulting in the effective key length to be half. In this direction, subsequent work has been done on AES and some other block ciphers. On the other hand, lightweight ciphers like SIMON was left unexplored. In this backdrop, we present Grover's search algorithm on all the variants of SIMON and enumerate the quantum resources to implement such attack in terms of NOT, CNOT and Toffoli gates. We also provide the T-depth of the circuits and the number of qubits r…
Finding the optimal solution to a complex optimization problem is of great importance in practically all fields of science, technology, technical design and econometrics. We demonstrate that a modified Grover's quantum algorithm can be applied to real problems of finding a global minimum using modest numbers of quantum bits. Calculations of the global minimum of simple test functions and Lennard-Jones clusters have been carried out on a quantum computer simulator using a modified Grover's algorithm. The number of function evaluations $N$ reduced from O(N) in classical simulation to $O(\sqrt{N}…

Quantum algorithms use the principles of quantum mechanics, as for example quantum superposition, in order to solve particular problems outperforming standard computation. They are developed for cryptography, searching, optimisation, simulation and solving large systems of linear equations. Here, we implement Grover's quantum algorithm, proposed to find an element in an unsorted list, using a single nuclear 3/2-spin carried by a Single Molecular Magnet (SMM) transistor. The coherent manipulation of this multi-level qudit is achieved by means of electric fields only. Grover's search algorithm w…

We discuss quantum algorithms that calculate numerical integrals and descriptive statistics of stochastic processes. With either of two distinct approaches, one obtains an exponential speed increase in comparison to the fastest known classical deterministic algorithms and a quadratic speed increase in comparison to classical Monte Carlo (probabilistic) methods. We derive a simpler and slightly faster version of Grover's mean algorithm, demonstrate how to apply quantum counting to the problem, develop some variations of these algorithms, and show how both (apparently quite different) approaches…

Using the tensor product representation in the density matrix renormalization group, we show that a quantum circuit of Grover's algorithm, which has one-qubit unitary gates, generalized Toffoli gates, and projective measurements, can be efficiently simulated by a classical computer. It is possible to simulate quantum circuits with several ten qubits.
Grover's algorithm can be employed in global optimization methods providing, in some cases, a quadratic speedup over classical algorithms. This paper describes a new method for continuous global optimization problems that uses a classical algorithm for finding a local minimum and Grover's algorithm to escape from this local minimum. Simulations with testbed functions and comparisons with algorithms from the literature are presented.

A construction is given for simulating any deterministic finite state machine (FSM) on a quantum computer in a space-efficient manner. By constructing a superposition of input strings of lengths K or less, questions can be asked about the FSM, such as the inputs that reach particular nodes, and the answers can be found using a search algorithm such as Grover's. This has implications for the eventual utility of quantum computers for software validation.

Recent studies have been spurred on by the promise of advanced quantum computing technology, which has led to the development of quantum computer simulations on classical hardware. Grover's quantum search algorithm is one of the well-known applications of quantum computing, enabling quantum computers to perform a database search (unsorted array) and quadratically outperform their classical counterparts in terms of time. Given the restricted access to database search for an oracle model (black-box), researchers have demonstrated various implementations of Grover's circuit for two to four qubits…
We introduce nebit, a classical bit with a signed probability distribution. We quantify its entropy using Szekely theorem on signed probability measures and show that classical stochastic dynamics supplemented with nebits can achieve or even exceed the speedup of Grover's quantum search algorithm. The proposed classical dynamics never reveals negativity of nebits and thus we do not need any operational interpretation of negative probabilities. We argue that nebits can be useful as a measure of non-classicality as well as a tool to find new quantum algorithms.
There exist quantum algorithms that are more efficient than their classical counterparts; such algorithms were invented by Shor in 1994 and then Grover in 1996. A lack of invention since Grover's algorithm has been commonly attributed to the non-intuitive nature of quantum algorithms to the classically trained person. Thus, the idea of using computers to automatically generate quantum algorithms based on an evolutionary model emerged. A limitation of this approach is that quantum computers do not yet exist and quantum simulation on a classical machine has an exponential order overhead. Neverth…
The hybrid quantum-classical learning scheme provides a prominent way to achieve quantum advantages on near-term quantum devices. A concrete example towards this goal is the quantum neural network (QNN), which has been developed to accomplish various supervised learning tasks such as classification and regression. However, there are two central issues that remain obscure when QNN is exploited to accomplish classification tasks. First, a quantum classifier that can well balance the computational cost such as the number of measurements and the learning performance is unexplored. Second, it is un…

Simulating quantum computation on a classical computer is a difficult problem. The matrices representing quantum gates, and the vectors modeling qubit states grow exponentially with an increase in the number of qubits. However, by using a novel data structure called the Quantum Information Decision Diagram (QuIDD) that exploits the structure of quantum operators, a useful subset of operator matrices and state vectors can be represented in a form that grows polynomially with the number of qubits. This subset contains, but is not limited to, any equal superposition of n qubits, any computational…

We describe a simulation method for a quantum spin model of a generic, general purpose quantum computer. The use of this quantum computer simulator is illustrated through several implementations of Grover's database search algorithm. Some preliminary results on the stability of quantum algorithms are presented.
A many-body Hamiltonian can be block-diagonalized by expressing it in terms of symmetry-adapted basis states. Finding the group orbit representatives of these basis states and their corresponding symmetries is currently a memory/computational bottleneck on classical computers during exact diagonalization. We apply Grover's search in the form of a minimization procedure to solve this problem. Our quantum solution provides an exponential reduction in memory, and a quadratic speedup in time over classical methods. We discuss explicitly the full circuit implementation of Grover minimization as app…
Grover's database search algorithm is the optimal algorithm for finding a desired object from an unsorted collection of items. Although it was discovered in the context of quantum computation, it is simple and versatile enough to be implemented using any physical system that allows superposition of states, and several proposals have been made in the literature. I study a mechanical realisation of the algorithm using coupled simple harmonic oscillators, and construct its physical model for the simplest case of four identical oscillators. The identification oracle is implemented as an elastic re…
