We investigate the differences between distributing entanglement using star and ring type network topologies. Assuming symmetrically distributed users, we asses the relative merits of the two network topologies as a function of the number of users when the amount of resources and the type of the quantum channel are kept fixed. For limited resources, we find that the topology better suited for entanglement distribution could differ from that which is more suitable for classical communications.
Entanglement distribution is a prerequisite for several important quantum information processing and computing tasks, such as quantum teleportation, quantum key distribution, and distributed quantum computing. In this work, we focus on two-dimensional quantum networks based on optical quantum technologies using dual-rail photonic qubits for the building of a fail-safe quantum internet. We lay out a quantum network architecture for entanglement distribution between distant parties using a Bravais lattice topology, with the technological constraint that quantum repeaters equipped with quantum me…

Doubly-parametric quantum transducers (DPTs), such as electro-opto-mechanical devices, show promise as quantum interconnects between the optical and microwave domains, thereby enabling long distance quantum networks between superconducting qubit systems. However, any transducer will inevitably introduce loss and noise that will degrade the performance of a quantum network. We explore how DPTs can be used to construct a network capable of distributing remote two-mode microwave entanglement over an optical link by comparing fourteen different network topologies. The fourteen topologies we analyz…
The present paper illustrates the realization of an atom-optomechanical system where an atomic ensemble is confined in a ring optomechanical cavity consisting of a fixed mirror and two movable ones. An analysis of the dynamics and the linearization of the equations allows to derive the multimode covariance matrix. Under realistic experimental conditions, we numerically simulate the steady-state bipartite and tripartite continuous variable entanglement using the logarithmic negativity, and analyze the shared entanglement in the multimode system. The introduction of the atomic medium allows to o…
We propose a new classification scheme for quantum entanglement based on topological links. This is done by identifying a non-rigid ring to a particle, attributing the act of cutting and removing a ring to the operation of tracing out the particle, and associating linked rings to entangled particles. This analogy naturally leads us to a classification of multipartite quantum entanglement based on all possible distinct links for a given number of rings. To determine all different possibilities, we develop a formalism which associates any link to a polynomial, with each polynomial thereby defini…
The degree of the generators of invariant polynomial rings of is a long standing open problem since the very initial study of the invariant theory in the 19th century. Motivated by its significant role in characterizing multipartite entanglement, we study the invariant polynomial rings of local unitary group---the tensor product of unitary group, and local general linear group---the tensor product of general linear group. For these two groups, we prove polynomial upper bounds on the degree of the generators of invariant polynomial rings. On the other hand, systematic methods are provided to to…
We investigate a variant of the SSH model consisting of an SSH chain with an embedded Aharonov-Bohm quantum ring. The embedded ring gives rise to domain wall states whose energy levels are in the band gap. The dependence of some of the states on the ring's magnetic flux provides a mechanism to control the entanglement between the two SSH edge fermion modes. The concurrence between the edge modes depends periodically on the magnetic flux. In the deep topological zone, for appropriate values of the flux, the concurrence reaches the extreme values of $0$ and $1$, corresponding to vanishing entang…
Quantum networks play a major role in long-distance communication, quantum cryptography, clock synchronization, and distributed quantum computing. Generally, these protocols involve many independent sources sharing entanglement among distant parties that, upon measuring their systems, generate correlations across the network. The question of which correlations a given quantum network can give rise to, remains almost uncharted. Here we show that constraints on the observable covariances, previously derived for the classical case, also hold for quantum networks. The network topology yields tests…
We propose a physical scheme to generate entangled light at high temperatures through the excitation of vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field using periodic modulations of a refractive index of a ring resonator. We consider the processes of dissipation and decoherence resulting from the coupling of the system with an environment at finite temperature and show that the total amount of entanglement generated does not depend on the temperature, which only affects the time necessary for the system to produce such an amount of entanglement.
The classical and quantum formulations for open systems related to dissipative dynamics are constructed on a complex hyperbolic ring, following universal symmetry principles, and considering the double thermal fields approach for modeling the system of interest, and the environment. The hyperbolic rotations are revealed as an underlying internal symmetry for the dissipative dynamics, and a chemical potential is identified as conjugate variable to the charge operator, and thus a grand partition function is constructed. As opposed to the standard scheme, there are not patologies associated with …
Integrated photonics is increasing in importance for compact, robust, and scalable enabling quantum technologies. This is particularly interesting for developing quantum communication networks, where resources need to be deployed in the field. We exploit photonic chip-based $ \rm Si_3 N_4$ ring microresonators for the generation of photon pairs with low-loss, high-noise suppression and coincidence rates of $80\times 10^3\,$s$^{-1}$. A simple photonic noise characterisation technique is presented that distinguishes linear and nonlinear contributions that is useful for system design and optimisa…
