There are hamiltonians that solve a search problem of finding one of $N$ items in $O(\sqrt{N})$ steps. They are hamiltonians to describe an oscillation between two states. In this paper we propose a generalized search hamiltonian, $H_{g}$. Then the known search hamiltonians become special cases of $H_{g}$.
From the generalized search hamiltonian, we present remarkable results that searching with 100% is subject only to the phase factor in $H_{g}$ and independent to the number of states or initialization.
The m-photon Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian is a natural generalization of the much studied Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian. In this short note we give the relevant operators for the time-dependent generalized m-photon Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian. The dynamical equations for these operators are also given. These operators are needed and indeed are the basic building blocks for performing calculations in the context of the Maximum Entropy Formalism.
We consider the solution of a generalized Exe Jahn-Teller Hamiltonian in the context of quasi-exactly solvable spectral problems. This Hamiltonian is expressed in terms of the generators of the osp(2,2) Lie algebra. Analytical expressions are obtained for eigenstates and eigenvalues. The solutions lead to a number of earlier results discussed in the literature. However, our approach renders a new understanding of ``exact isolated'' solutions.
We examine the driving Hamiltonian in the analog analogue of Grover's algorithm by Farhi and Gutmann. For a quantum system with a given Hamiltonian $E|w> < w|$, we explicitly show that while the driving Hamiltonian $E|s> < s|$ optimally produces the state $|w>$ from an initial state $|s>$, the driving Hamiltonian $E^{\prime}|s> < s|(E^{\prime} \ne E)$ does not provide any speedup compared even with a classical computation.
We derive an encoded universality representation for a generalized anisotropic exchange Hamiltonian that contains cross-product terms in addition to the usual two-particle exchange terms. The recently developed algebraic approach is used to show that the minimal universality-generating encodings of one logical qubit are based on three physical qubits. We show how to generate both single- and two-qubit operations on the logical qubits, using suitably timed conjugating operations derived from analysis of the commutator algebra. The timing of the operations is seen to be crucial in allowing simpl…
We show that the ground state of the well-known pseudo-stationary states for the Caldirola-Kanai Hamiltonian is a generalized minimum uncertainty state, which has the minimum allowed uncertainty $Δq Δp = \hbar σ_0/2$, where $σ_0 (\geq 1)$ is a constant depending on the damping factor and natural frequency. The most general symmetric Gaussian states are obtained as the one-parameter squeezed states of the pseudo-stationary ground state. It is further shown that the coherent states of the pseudo-stationary ground state constitute another class of the generalized minimum uncertainty states.
We in this paper demonstrate that the $PT$-symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonian for a periodically driven system can be generated from a kernel Hamiltonian by a generalized gauge transformation. The kernel Hamiltonian is Hermitian and static, while the time-dependent transformation operator has to be $PT$ symmetric and non-unitary in general. Biorthogonal sets of eigenstates appear necessarily as a consequence of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. We obtain analytically the wave functions and associated non-adiabatic Berry phase $γ_{n}$ for the $n$th eigenstate. The classical version of the non-Hermiti…
James' effective Hamiltonian method has been extensively adopted to investigate largely detuned interacting quantum systems. This method is just corresponding to the second-order perturbation theory, and cannot be exploited to treat the problems which should be solved by using the third or higher-order perturbation theory. In this paper, we generalize James' effective Hamiltonian method to the higher-order case. Using the method developed here, we reexamine two examples published recently [Phys. Rev.Lett. 117, 043601 (2016), Phys. Rev A 92, 023842 (2015)], our results turn out to be the same a…
A relevant problem in quantum computing concerns how fast a source state can be driven into a target state according to Schrödinger's quantum mechanical evolution specified by a suitable driving Hamiltonian. In this paper, we study in detail the computational aspects necessary to calculate the transition probability from a source state to a target state in a continuous time quantum search problem defined by a multi-parameter generalized time-independent Hamiltonian. In particular, quantifying the performance of a quantum search in terms of speed (minimum search time) and fidelity (maximum succ…
We derive in this study a Hamiltonian to solve with certainty the analog quantum search problem analogue to the Grover algorithm. The general form of the initial state is considered. Since the evaluation of the measuring time for finding the marked state by probability of unity is crucially important in the problem, especially when the Bohr frequency is high, we then give the exact formula as a function of all given parameters for the measuring time.
The formalism for non-Hermitian quantum systems sometimes blurs the underlying physics. We present a systematic study of the vielbein-like formalism which transforms the Hilbert space bundles of non-Hermitian systems into the conventional ones, rendering the induced Hamiltonian to be Hermitian. In other words, any non-Hermitian Hamiltonian can be "transformed" into a Hermitian one without altering the physics. Thus we show how to find a reference frame (corresponding to Einstein's quantum elevator) in which a non-Hermitian system, equipped with a non-trivial Hilbert space metric, reduces to a …
The robustness of the local adiabatic quantum search to decoherence in the instantaneous eigenbasis of the search Hamiltonian is examined. We demonstrate that the asymptotic time-complexity of the ideal closed case is preserved, as long as the Hamiltonian dynamics is present. In the special case of pure decoherence where the environment monitors the search Hamiltonian, it is shown that the local adiabatic quantum search performs as the classical search.
Quantum search on the two-dimensional lattice with one marked vertex and cyclic boundary conditions is an important problem in the context of quantum algorithms with an interesting unfolding. It avails to test the ability of quantum walk models to provide efficient algorithms from the theoretical side and means to implement quantum walks in laboratories from the practical side. In this paper, we rigorously prove that the recent-proposed staggered quantum walk model provides an efficient quantum search on the two-dimensional lattice, if the reflection operators associated with the graph tessell…
Phase-space features of the Wigner flow for generic one-dimensional systems with a Hamiltonian, $H^{W}(q,\,p)$, constrained by the $\partial ^2 H^{W} / \partial q \partial p = 0$ condition are analytically obtained in terms of Wigner functions and Wigner currents. Liouvillian and stationary profiles are identified for thermodynamic (TD) and Gaussian quantum ensembles to account for exact corrections due to quantum modifications over a classical phase-space pattern. General results are then specialized to the Harper Hamiltonian system which, besides working as a feasible test platform for the f…
We numerically simulate the effects of noise-induced sampling of alternative Hamiltonian paths on the ability of quantum adiabatic search (QuAdS) to solve randomly generated instances of the NP-Complete problem N-bit Exact Cover 3. The noise-averaged median runtime is determined as the noise-power and number of bits N are varied, and power-law and exponential fits are made to the data. Noise is seen to slowdown QuAdS, though a downward shift in the scaling exponent is found for N > 12 over a range of noise-power values. We discuss whether this shift might be connected to arguments in the liter…
A set of Hamiltonians that are not self-adjoint but have the spectrum of the harmonic oscillator is studied. The eigenvectors of these operators and those of their Hermitian conjugates form a bi-orthogonal system that provides a mathematical procedure to satisfy the superposition principle. In this form the non-Hermitian oscillators can be studied in much the same way as in the Hermitian approaches. Two different nonlinear algebras generated by properly constructed ladder operators are found and the corresponding generalized coherent states are obtained. The non-Hermitian oscillators can be st…
We present new intuition behind Grover's quantum search algorithm by means of a Hamiltonian. Given a black-box Boolean function f mapping strings of length n into {0,1} such that f(w) = 1 for exactly one string w, L. K. Grover describes a quantum algorithm that finds w in O(2^{n/2}) time. Farhi & Gutmann show that w can also be found in the same amount time by letting the quantum system evolve according to a simple Hamiltonian depending only on f. Their system evolves along a path far from that taken by Grover's original algorithm, however. The current paper presents an equally simple Hamilton…
This paper is a natural continuation of the previous paper \cite{TyuVo13} where generalized oscillator representations for Calogero Hamiltonians with potential $V(x)=α/x^2$, $α\geq-1/4$, were constructed. In this paper, we present generalized oscillator representations for all generalized Calogero Hamiltonians with potential $V(x)=g_{1}/x^2+g_{2}x^2$, $g_{1}\geq-1/4$, $g_{2}>0$. These representations are generally highly nonunique, but there exists an optimum representation for each Hamiltonian, representation that explicitly determines the ground state and the ground-state energy. For general…
A one-to-one correspondence is known to exist between the spectra of the discrete states of the non Hermitian Swanson-type Hamiltonian $ H = {\cal{A}}^{\dagger} {\cal{A}} + α{\cal{A}} ^2 + β{\cal{A}}^{\dagger 2} $, ($α\neq β$), and an equivalent Hermitian Schrödinger Hamiltonian $h$, the two Hamiltonians being related through a similarity transformation. In this work we consider the continuum states of $h$, and examine the nature of the corresponding states of $H$.
The quantum dynamics of a driven single-band tight-binding model with different boundary conditions is considered. The relation between the Hamiltonian describing the single-band tight-binding dynamics and the Hamiltonian of a discrete-charge mesoscopic quantum circuit is elucidated. It is shown that the former Hamiltonian, with Dirichlet boundary conditions, can be considered as a realization of the deformed parafermionic polynomial algebras.
We report on a detailed analysis of generalization of the local adiabatic search algorithm. Instead of evolving directly from an initial ground state Hamiltonian to a solution Hamiltonian a different evolution path is introduced and is shown that the time required to find an item in a database of size $N$ can be made to be independent of the size of the database by modifying the Hamiltonian used to evolve the system.
We study a generalized scheme of Swanson Hamiltonian from a second-derivative pseudosupersymmetric approach. We discuss plausible choices of the underlying quasi-Hamiltonian and consider the viability of applications to systems like the isotonic oscillator and CPRS potential.
In this paper we discuss the utilization of Variational Quantum Solver (VQE) and recently introduced Generalized Unitary Coupled Cluster (GUCC) formalism for the diagonalization of downfolded/effective Hamiltonians in active spaces. In addition to effective Hamiltonians defined by the downfolding of a subset of virtual orbitals we also consider their form defined by freezing core orbitals, which enables us to deal with larger systems. We also consider various solvers to identify solutions of the GUCC equations. We use N$_2$, H$_2$O, and C$_2$H$_4$, and benchmark systems to illustrate the perfo…
A class of shape-invariant bound-state problems which represent two-level systems are introduced. It is shown that the coupled-channel Hamiltonians obtained correspond to the generalization of the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian.
We introduce a method for the search of parent Hamiltonians of input wave-functions based on the structure of their reduced density matrix. The two key elements of our recipe are an ansatz on the relation between reduced density matrix and parent Hamiltonian that is exact at the field theory level, and a minimization procedure on the space of relative entropies, which is particularly convenient due to its convexity. As examples, we show how our method correctly reconstructs the parent Hamiltonian correspondent to several non-trivial ground state wave functions, including conformal and symmetry…
A generalized non-Hermitian oscillator Hamiltonian is proposed that consists of additional linear terms which break PT-symmetry explicitly. The model is put into an equivalent Hermitian form by means of a similarity transformation and the criterion of N-fold supersymmetry with a position-dependent mass is shown to reside in it.
The generalized Swanson Hamiltonian $H_{GS} = w (\tilde{a}\tilde{a}^†+ 1/2) + α\tilde{a}^2 + β\tilde{a}^{†^2}$ with $\tilde{a} = A(x)d/dx + B(x)$, can be transformed into an equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian with the help of a similarity transformation. It is shown that the equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian can be further transformed into the harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian so long as $[\tilde{a},\tilde{a}^†]=$ constant. However, the main objective of this paper is to show that though the commutator of $\tilde{a}$ and $\tilde{a}^†$ is constant, the generalized Swanson Hamiltonian is not necessar…
We present an elementary, general, and semi-quantitative description of relaxation to gaussian and generalized Gibbs states in lattice models of fermions or bosons with quadratic hamiltonians. Our arguments apply to arbitrary initial states that satisfy a mild condition on clustering of correlations. We also show that similar arguments can be used to understand relaxation (or its absence) in systems with time-dependent quadratic hamiltonians, and provide a semi-quantitative description of relaxation in quadratic periodically driven (Floquet) systems.
Dynamical and non-dynamical components of the 20-component wave function are separated in the generalized Dirac equation of the first order, describing fermions with spin 1/2 and two mass states. After the exclusion of the non-dynamical components, we obtain the Hamiltonian Form of equations. Minimal and non-minimal electromagnetic interactions of particles are considered here.
We explore the Jacobi Last Multiplier as a means for deriving the Lagrangian of a fourth-order differential equation. In particular we consider the classical problem of the Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator and write down the accompanying Hamiltonian. We then compare such an expression with an alternative derivation of the Hamiltonian that makes use of the Ostrogradski's method and show that a mapping from the one to the other is achievable by variable transformations. Assuming canonical quantization procedure to be valid we go for the operator version of the Hamiltonian that represents a pair of unco…
In this paper we propose some Hamiltonian characterizing the interaction of the two-level atom and both the single radiation mode and external field, which might be a generalization of that of Sch{ö}n and Cirac (quant-ph/0212068). We solve them in the strong coupling regime under some conditions (the rotating wave approximation, resonance condition and etc), and obtain unitary transformations of four types to perform Quantum Computation.
We derive a general Hamiltonian that governs the interaction between an $N$-ion chain and an externally controlled laser field, where the ion motion is quantized and the laser field is considered beyond the plane-wave approximation. This general form not only explicitly includes terms that are used to drive ion-ion entanglement, but also a series of unwanted terms that can lead to quantum gate infidelity. We demonstrate the power of our expressivity of the general Hamiltonian by singling out the effect of axial mode heating and confirm this experimentally. We discuss pathways forward in furthe…
We develop a quantum-inspired numerical procedure for searching low-energy states of a classical Hamiltonian composed of two-body fully-connected random Ising interactions and a random local longitudinal magnetic field. In this method, we introduce infinitesimal quantum interactions that do not commute with the original Ising Hamiltonian, and repeatedly generate and truncate direct product states, inspired by the Krylov subspace method, to obtain the low-energy states of the original classical Ising Hamiltonian. The computational cost is controlled by the form of infinitesimal quantum interact…
This work reports and classifies the most general construction of rational quantum potentials in terms of the generalized Hermite polynomials. This is achieved by exploiting the intrinsic relation between third-order shape-invariant Hamiltonians and the fourth Painlevé equation, such that the generalized Hermite polynomials emerge from the $-1/x$ and $-2x$ hierarchies of rational solutions. Such a relation unequivocally establishes the discrete spectrum structure, which, in general, is composed as the union of a finite- and infinite-dimensional sequence of equidistant eigenvalues separated by …
In this paper, the concept of generalized spectral function is introduced for finite-order tridiagonal symmetric matrices (Jacobi matrices) with complex entries. The structure of the generalized spectral function is described in terms of spectral data consisting of the eigenvalues and normalizing numbers of the matrix. The inverse problems from generalized spectral function as well as from spectral data are investigated. In this way, a procedure for construction of complex tridiagonal matrices having real eigenvalues is obtained.
Optimal realizations of quantum technology tasks lead to the necessity of a detailed analytical study of the behavior of a $d$-level quantum system (qudit) under a time-dependent Hamiltonian. In the present article, we introduce a new general formalism describing the unitary evolution of a qudit $(d\geq2)$ in terms of the Bloch-like vector space and specify how in a general case this formalism is related to finding time-dependent parameters in the exponential representation of the evolution operator under an arbitrary time-dependent Hamiltonian. Applying this new general formalism to a qubit c…
In this work we explore the self-adjointness of the GUP-modified momentum and Hamiltonian operators over different domains. In particular, we utilize the theorem by von-Newmann for symmetric operators in order to determine whether the momentum and Hamiltonian operators are self-adjoint or not, or they have self-adjoint extensions over the given domain. In addition, a simple example of the Hamiltonian operator describing a particle in a box is given. The solutions of the boundary conditions that describe the self-adjoint extensions of the specific Hamiltonian operator are obtained.
