Comments on the nonlinear Schrodinger equation

Comment on: "Solving many-body Schrödinger equations with kinetic energy partition method'', Ann. Phys. 388 (2018) 54-68 by Y-H. Chen and S. D. Chao

We discuss a recent test of the performance of the kinetic energy partition method (KEP) through its application to two separable quantum-mechanical models. We argue that one of the benchmark models is exceedingly simple for testing any realistic approximate method and that almost any reasonable approach yields better results. In the second example our exact benchmark eigenvalues disagree considerably with those chosen by the authors for comparison, which casts doubts on the accuracy of their KEP approach.

Comment on "Feynman Effective Classical Potential in the Schrodinger Formulation"

We comment on the paper "Feynman Effective Classical Potential in the Schrodinger Formulation"[Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 3303 (1998)]. We show that the results in this paper about the time evolution of a wave packet in a double well potential can be properly explained by resorting to a variational principle for the effective action. A way to improve on these results is also discussed.

Comment on "Foundations of quantum mechanics: Connection with stochastic processes"

Recently, Olavo has proposed several derivations of the Schrodinger equation from different sets of hypothesis ("axiomatizations") [Phys. Rev. A 61, 052109 (2000)]. One of them is based on the infinitesimal inverse Weyl transform of a classically evolved phase space density. We show however that the Schrodinger equation can only be obtained in that manner for linear or quadratic potential functions.

Comment on "New analytic solution of Schrödinger's equation"

Some of the conclusions of an improved JWKB method by Eleuch H., Rostovtsev Y. V. and Scully M. O., EPL, 89 (2010) 50004 are clarified. The degree of approximation to exact solutions is quantitatively assessed. The improved JWKB method is also contrasted with the method of comparison equations.

Comments on "On the Consistency of the Solutions of the Space Fractional Schrödinger Equation" [J. Math. Phys. 53, 042105 (2012)]

Recently we have reanalyzed the consistency of the solutions of the space fractional Schrödinger equation found in a piecewise manner, and showed that an exact and a proper treatment of the relevant integrals prove that they are consistent. In this comment, for clarity, we present additional information about the critical integrals and describe how their analytic continuation is accomplished. [doi: 10.1063/1.4705268]

Comment on "Cornell potential in generalized uncertainty principle formalism: the case of Schrödinger equation"

In the recent paper, Ref. 1, the l-waves Schrödinger equation for the Cornell's potential is solved in quantum mechanics with a generalized uncertainty principle by following Ref. 2. It is showed here that the approach of Ref. 2 can only be used for the s-waves, and then the solution given in Ref. 1 would be true only in the special case l=0. Furthermore, it is highlighted that the abstract and the conclusion of Ref. 1 do not accurately reflect the results of the paper.

Comment on "Inequivalence between the Schrodinger equation and the Madelung hydrodynamic equations"

In the paper with the above-noted title, T. C. Wallstrom claims that the description of the particle's motion as a certain "conservative" diffusion is not equivalent to quantum mechanics in spite of the fact that the Madelung "hydrodynamic" equations, which provide the description of such a diffusion, can be converted to the Schroedinger equation. Some Comments On Bound State Eigenvalues of PT-Symmetric Potentials

Using purely physical arguments it is claimed that for ID Schrodinger operators with complex PT- Symmatric potentials having a purely real attractive potential well and a purely imaginary repulsive part,bound state eigenvalues will be discrete and real.This has been illustrated with several potentials possessing similar properties.

Comments on Proposed Gravitational Modifications of Schrodinger Dynamics and their Experimental Implications

We discuss aspects of gravitational modifications of Schrodinger dynamics proposed by Diosi and Penrose. We consider first the Diosi-Penrose criterion for gravitationally induced state vector reduction, and compute the reduction time expected for a superposition of a uniform density cubical solid in two positions displaced by a small fraction of the cube side. In a recent paper by Jafarov, Nagiyev, Oste and Van der Jeugt (2020 {\sl J.\ Phys.\ A} {\bf 53} 485301), a confined model of the non-relativistic quantum harmonic oscillator, where the effective mass and the angular frequency are dependent on the position, was constructed and it was shown that the confinement parameter gets quantized. Ehrenfest theorem, Galilean invariance and nonlinear Schrödinger equations

Galilean invariant Schrödinger equations possessing nonlinear terms coupling the amplitude and the phase of the wave function can violate the Ehrenfest theorem. An example of this kind is provided. The example leads to the proof of the theorem: A Galilean invariant Schrödinger equation derived from a lagrangian density obeys the Ehrenfest theorem. The theorem holds for any linear or nonlinear lagrangian.

Derivation of Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

We propose some nonlinear Schrödinger equations by adding some higher order terms to the Lagrangian density of Schrödinger field, and obtain the Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation and the logarithmic form equation naturally. In addition, we prove the coefficient of nonlinear term is very small, i.e., the nonlinearity of Schrödinger equation is weak.
