We investigate the effect of phase randomness in Ising-type quantum networks. These networks model a large class of physical systems. They describe micro- and nanostructures or arrays of optical elements such as beam splitters (interferometers) or parameteric amplifiers. Most of these stuctures are promising candidates for quantum information processing networks. We demonstrate that such systems exhibit two very distinct types of behaviour. For certain network configurations (parameters), they show quantum localization similar to Anderson localization whereas classical stochastic behaviour is observed in other cases. We relate these findings to the standard theory of quantum localization.
Ergodicity in quantum many-body systems is - despite its fundamental importance - still an open problem. Many-body localization provides a general framework for quantum ergodicity, and may therefore offer important insights. However, the characterization of many-body localization through simple observables is a difficult task. In this article, we introduce a measure for distances in Hilbert space for spin-1/2 systems that can be interpreted as a generalization of the Anderson localization length to the many-body Hilbert space. We show that this many-body localization length is equivalent to a …
We study the non-equilibrium evolution of coexisting ferromagnetic domains in the two-dimensional quantum Ising model -- a setup relevant in several contexts, from quantum nucleation dynamics and false-vacuum decay scenarios to recent experiments with Rydberg-atom arrays. We demonstrate that the quantum-fluctuating interface delimiting a large bubble can be studied as an effective one-dimensional system through a "holographic" mapping. For the considered model, the emergent interface excitations map to an integrable chain of fermionic particles. We discuss how this integrability is broken by g…
We study many-body localization properties of the disordered XXZ spin chain in the Ising phase. Disorder is introduced via a random magnetic field in the $z$-direction. We prove a strong form of dynamical exponential clustering for eigenstates in the droplet spectrum: For any pair of local observables separated by a distance $\ell$, the sum of the associated correlators over these states decays exponentially in $\ell$, in expectation. This exponential clustering persists under the time evolution in the droplet spectrum. Our result applies to the large disorder regime as well as to the strong I…
We experimentally study a system of quantum kicked rotors - an ensemble of diatomic molecules exposed to a periodic sequence of ultrashort laser pulses. In the regime, where the underlying classical dynamics is chaotic, we investigate the quantum phenomenon of dynamical localization by means of state-resolved coherent Raman spectroscopy. We examine the dependence of the exponentially localized angular momentum distribution and of the total rotational energy on the time period between the pulses and their amplitude. The former parameter is shown to provide control over the localization center, …
We investigate the occurrence of many-body localization (MBL) on a spin-1/2 transverse-field Ising model defined on a Chimera connectivity graph with random exchange interactions and longitudinal fields. We observe a transition from an ergodic phase to a non-thermal phase for individual energy eigenstates induced by a critical disorder strength for the Ising parameters. Our result follows from the analysis of both the mean half-system block entanglement and the energy level statistics. We identify the critical point associated with this transition using the maximum variance of the block entang…
Localization and delocalization of quantum diffusion in time-continuous one-dimensional Anderson model perturbed by the quasi-periodic harmonic oscillations of $M$ colors is investigated systematically, which has been partly reported by the preliminary letter [PRE {\bf 103}, L040202(2021)]. We investigate in detail the localization-delocalization characteristics of the model with respect to three parameters: the disorder strength $W$, the perturbation strength $ε$ and the number of the colors $M$ which plays the similar role of spatial dimension. In particular, attentions are focused on the pr…
We propose a near-term quantum simulator based on the fluxonium qubits inductively coupled to form a chain. This system provides long coherence time, large anharmonicity, and strong coupling, making it suitable to study Ising spin models. At the half-flux quantum sweet spot, the system is described by the transverse field Ising model (TFIM). We evaluate the propagation of qubit excitations through the system. As disorder increases, the excitations become localized. A single qubit measurement using the circuit QED methods is sufficient to identify localization transition without introducing tun…
