Generalizations of Kijowski's time-of-arrival distribution for interaction potentials

Transition from discrete to continuous time of arrival distribution for a quantum particle

We show that the Kijowski distribution for time of arrivals in the entire real line is the limiting distribution of the time of arrival distribution in a confining box as its length increases to infinity. The dynamics of the confined time of arrival eigenfunctions is also numerically investigated and demonstrated that the eigenfunctions evolve to have point supports at the arrival point at their respective eigenvalues in the limit of arbitrarilly large confining lengths, giving insight into the ideal physical content of the Kijowsky distribution.

Time-of-arrival distribution for arbitrary potentials and Wigner's time-energy uncertainty relation

A realization of the concept of "crossing state" invoked, but not implemented, by Wigner, allows to advance in two important aspects of the time of arrival in quantum mechanics: (i) For free motion, we find that the limitations described by Aharonov et al. in Phys. Rev. A 57, 4130 (1998) for the time-of-arrival uncertainty at low energies for certain mesurement models are in fact already present in the intrinsic time-of-arrival distribution of Kijowski; (ii) We have also found a covariant generalization of this distribution for arbitrary potentials and positions.

A self-adjoint arrival time operator inspired by measurement models

We introduce an arrival time operator which is self-adjoint and, unlike previously proposed arrival time operators, has a close link to simple measurement models. Its spectrum leads to an arrival time distribution which is a variant of the Kijowski distribution (a re-ordering of the current) in the large momentum regime but is proportional to the kinetic energy density in the small momentum regime, in agreement with measurement models. We present a decomposition of the general quantum mechanical evolution operator, that corresponds to the path decomposition expansion, and interpret its constituents in terms of the quantum Zeno effect (QZE). This decomposition is applied to a finite dimensional example and to the case of a free particle in the real line, where the possibility of boundary conditions more general than those hitherto considered in the literature is shown. Operator normalized quantum arrival times in the presence of interactions

We model ideal arrival-time measurements for free quantum particles and for particles subject to an external interaction by means of a narrow and weak absorbing potential. This approach is related to the operational approach of measuring the first photon emitted from a two-level atom illuminated by a laser. Time-of-arrival distributions from position-momentum and energy-time joint measurements

The position-momentum quasi-distribution obtained from an Arthurs and Kelly joint measurement model is used to obtain indirectly an ``operational'' time-of-arrival (TOA) distribution following a quantization procedure proposed by Kochański and Wódkiewicz [Phys. We study the construction of probability densities for time-of-arrival in quantum mechanics. Our treatment is based upon the facts that (i) time appears in quantum theory as an external parameter to the system, and (ii) propositions about the time-of-arrival appear naturally when one considers histories. What is Time in Quantum Mechanics?

Time of arrival in quantum mechanics is discussed in two versions: the classical axiomatic "time of arrival operator" introduced by J. Kijowski and the EEQT method. It is suggested that for free particles the two methods may lead to the same result. On the other hand the EEQT method can be easily geometrized within the framework of Galilei-Newton general relativistic quantum mechanics developed by M. Modugno and collaborators, and it can be applied to non-free evolutions. The way of geometrization of irreversible quantum dynamics based on dissipative Liouville equation is suggested.

Wavepacket approach to particle diffraction by thin targets: Quantum trajectories and arrival times

We develop a wavepacket approach to the diffraction of charged particles by a thin material target and we use the de Broglie-Bohm quantum trajectories to study various phenomena in this context. We find the form of the separator, i.e.the limit between the domains of prevalence of the ingoing and outgoing quantum flow. Quantum-classical comparison: arrival times and statistics

Classical and quantum scattering of a non-Gaussian wave packet by a rectangular barrier is studied in terms of arrival times to a given detector location. A classical wave equation, proposed by N. Rosen [{\it{Am. J. Phys.}} {\bf 32} (1964) 377], is used to study the corresponding classical dynamics.
