We start to develop the quantization formalism in a hyperbolic Hilbert space. Generalizing Born's probability interpretation, we found that unitary transformations in such a Hilbert space represent a new class of transformations of probabilities which describe a kind of {\it hyperbolic interference}. The most interesting problem which was generated by our investigation is to find experimental evidence of hyperbolic interference. The hyperbolic quantum formalism can also be interesting as a new theory of probabilistic waves that can be developed parallely to the standard quantum theory. Comparative analysis of these two wave theories could be useful for understanding of the role of various structures of the standard quantum formalism. In particular, one of distinguishing feature of the hyperbolic quantum formalism is the restricted validity of the superposition principle.
We demonstrated that classical mechanics have, besides the well known quantum deformation, another deformation -- so called hyperbolic quantum mechanics. The classical Poisson bracket can be obtained as the limit $h\to 0$ not only of the ordinary Moyal bracket, but also hyperbolic analogue of the Moyal bracket. Thus there are two different deformations of classical phase-space: complex Hilbert space and hyperbolic Hilbert space (module over a so called hyperbolic algebra -- the two dimensional Clifford algebra). To prove the correspondence principle we use the calculus over the hyperbolic alge…
Quantum and classical mechanics share a common algebraic formalism which is expressed naturally in the language of category theory. A third realization of this formalism is the so-called hyperbolic quantum mechanics where split-complex numbers replace the usual complex numbers. We introduce and explore the corresponding generalization of C*-algebras and prove that hyperbolic quantum mechanics is not a viable candidate for describing Nature. Quantum and classical mechanics are the only acceptable theories of Nature which are invariant under tensorial composition.
We analytically solve the position-dependent mass (PDM) 1D Schrödinger equation for a new class of hyperbolic potentials $V_q^p(x) = -V_0\frac{\sinh^px}{\cosh^qx}, \, p= -2, 0, \dots q$ [see C. A. Downing, J. Math. Phys. 54 072101 (2013)] among which several hyperbolic single- and double-wells. For a solitonic mass distribution, $m(x)=m_0\,\text{sech}^2(x)$, we obtain exact analytic solutions to the resulting differential equations. For several members of the class, the quantum mechanical problems map into confluent Heun differential equations. The PDM Poschl-Teller potential is considered and…
Modern advances in transformation optics and electromagnetic metamaterials made possible experimental demonstrations of highly unusual curvilinear optical spaces, such as various geometries necessary for electromagnetic cloaking. Recently we demonstrated that mapping light intensity in a hyperbolic metamaterial may also model the flow of time in an effective (2+1) dimensional Minkowski spacetime. Curving such an effective spacetime creates experimental model of a toy big bang. Here we demonstrate that at low light levels this model may be used to emulate a fully covariant version of quantum me…
Using the bicomplex numbers $\mathbb{T}$ which is a commutative ring with zero divisors defined by $\mathbb{T}=\{w_0 + w_1 i_1 + w_2 i_2 + w_3 j | w_0, w_1, w_2, w_3 \in \mathbb{R}\}$ where $i_{1}^{2} = -1, i_{2}^{2} = -1, j^2 = 1, i_1 i_2 = j = i_2 i_1$, we construct hyperbolic and bicomplex Hilbert spaces. Linear functionals and dual spaces are considered and properties of linear operators are obtained; in particular it is established that the eigenvalues of a bicomplex self-adjoint operator are in the set of hyperbolic numbers.
In this article we used supersymmetry quantum mechanics and factorization methods to study the bound and scattering state of Klein-Gordon equation with deformed Hulthen plus deformed hyperbolical potential for arbitrary state in D-dimensions. The analytic relativistic bound state eigenvalues and the scattering phase factor are found in closed form. We reported on the numerical results for the bound state energy in D-dimensions.
We show how a hyperbolic surface code could be used for overhead-efficient quantum storage. We give numerical evidence for a noise threshold of 1.3% for the {4,5}-hyperbolic surface code in a phenomenological noise model (as compared to 2.9% for the toric code). In this code family parity checks are of weight 4 and 5 while each qubit participates in 4 different parity checks. We introduce a family of semi-hyperbolic codes which interpolate between the toric code and the {4,5}-hyperbolic surface code in terms of encoding rate and threshold. We show how these hyperbolic codes outperform the tori…

We demonstrate the quantum probabilistic rule (which differ from classical Bayes' formula by the cosinus factor) can be obtained on purely classical basis as a consequence of the perturbation effect of preparation procedures. In any case the interference can be easily simulated for macrosystems. Moreover, we obtain the classification of all possible transformations of probablities which can arise via perturbation effects. There are two main transformation classes: with trigonometric and hyperbolic ("interference") perturbations of classical Bayes' formula. Quantum probabilistic rule is just a …
In this work, the probability uncertainties related to a stationary quantum system with solitonic mass distribution when subjected to deformable hyperbolic potentials are studied. Shannon's entropy and Fisher's information of a position-dependent mass are calculated. To investigate the concept of Shannon and Fisher entropies of the solitonic mass distribution subject to the hyperbolic potential, it is necessary to obtain the analytic solutions at position and momentum space. For the Hamiltonian operator to be Hermitian, we consider the stationary Schrödinger equation ordered by Zhu-Kroemer. Th…
In this work, we analyze a particle with position-dependent mass, with solitonic mass distribution in a stationary quantum system, for the particular case of the BenDaniel-Duke ordering, in a hyperbolic barrier potential. The kinetic energy ordering of BenDaniel-Duke guarantees the hermiticity of the Hamiltonian operator. We find the analytical solutions of the Schrödinger equation and their respective quantized energies. In addition, we calculate the Shannon entropy and Fisher information for the solutions in the case of the lowest energy states of the system.
We derive exact closed-form expressions for several sums leading to hyperbolic functions and discuss their applicability for studies of finite-size Ising spin chains. We show how they immediately lead to closed-form expressions for both fidelity susceptibility characterizing the quantum critical point and the coefficients of the counterdiabatic Hamiltonian enabling arbitrarily quick adiabatic driving of the system. Our results generalize and extend the sums presented in the popular Gradshteyn and Ryzhik Table of Integrals, Series, and Products.
It has been known since the early days of quantum mechanics that hyperbolic secant pulses possess the unique property that they can perform cyclic evolution on two-level quantum systems independently of the pulse detuning. More recently, it was realized that they induce detuning- controlled phases without changing state populations. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the properties of hyperbolic secant pulses on superconducting transmon qubits and contrast them with the more commonly used Gaussian and square waves. We further show that these properties can be exploited to implement phase gate…
The quantum-like representation algorithm (QLRA) was introduced by A. Khrennikov \cite{K1,K2,K3,K4,K5} to solve the "inverse Born's rule problem", i.e. to construct a representation of probabilistic data - measured in any context of science - and represent this data by a complex or more general (A Clifford algebra is introduced for this more general representation) probability amplitude which matches a generalization of Born's rule. The outcome from QLRA will introduce the formula of total probability with an additional term of trigonometric, hyperbolic or hyper-trigonometric interference and …
Wigner functions play a central role in the phase space formulation of quantum mechanics. Although closely related to classical Liouville densities, Wigner functions are not positive definite and may take negative values on subregions of phase space. We investigate the accumulation of these negative values by studying bounds on the integral of an arbitrary Wigner function over noncompact subregions of the phase plane with hyperbolic boundaries. We show using symmetry techniques that this problem reduces to computing the bounds on the spectrum associated with an exactly-solvable eigenvalue prob…
We uncover a new type of unitary operation for quantum mechanics on the half-line which yields a transformation to ``Hyperbolic phase space''. We show that this new unitary change of basis from the position x on the half line to the Hyperbolic momentum $p_η$, transforms the wavefunction via a Mellin transform on to the critial line $s=1/2-ip_η$. We utilise this new transform to find quantum wavefunctions whose Hyperbolic momentum representation approximate a class of higher transcendental functions, and in particular, approximate the Riemann Zeta function. We finally give possible physical rea…
We show how to obtain concrete constructions of homological quantum codes based on tilings of 2D surfaces with constant negative curvature (hyperbolic surfaces). This construction results in two-dimensional quantum codes whose tradeoff of encoding rate versus protection is more favorable than for the surface code. These surface codes would require variable length connections between qubits, as determined by the hyperbolic geometry. We provide numerical estimates of the value of the noise threshold and logical error probability of these codes against independent X or Z noise, assuming noise-fre…
Quantum dynamics of a particle in the vicinity of a hyperbolic point is considered. Expectation values of dynamical variables are calculated, and the singular behavior is analyzed. Exponentially fast extension of quantum dynamics is obtained, and conditions for this realization are analyzed.
The scattering problems of a scalar point particle from a finite assembly of n>1 non-overlapping and disconnected hard disks, fixed in the two-dimensional plane, belong to the simplest realizations of classically hyperbolic scattering systems. Here, we investigate the connection between the spectral properties of the quantum-mechanical scattering matrix and its semiclassical equivalent based on the semiclassical zeta-function of Gutzwiller and Voros. Our quantum-mechanical calculation is well-defined at every step, as the on-shell T-matrix and the multiscattering kernel M-1 are shown to be tra…
We revise the construction of creation/annihilation operators in quantum mechanics based on the representation theory of the Heisenberg and symplectic groups. Besides the standard harmonic oscillator (the elliptic case) we similarly treat the repulsive oscillator (hyperbolic case) and the free particle (the parabolic case). The respective hypercomplex numbers turn to be handy on this occasion, this provides a further illustration to Similarity and Correspondence Principle. Keywords: Heisenberg group, Kirillov's method of orbits, geometric quantisation, quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, P…
Using coherent-state representations of quantum mechanics (Bargmann, Husimi, and stellar representations), we describe analytically the phase-space structure of the general eigenstates corresponding to a 1-dimensional bilinear hyperbolic Hamiltonian, H=pq or equivalently H=1/2(P^2-Q^2). Their semi-classical behaviour is discussed for eigenvalues either near or away from the separatrix energy {H=0}, especially in the phase-space vicinity of the saddle-point (q,p)=(0,0).
Orthogonal Polynomials in Quantum Mechanics. Exact solutions of the Schrodinger equation with the hyperbolic Scarf potential (Scarf II) in terms of Romanovski polynomials. Among the applications included is the solution of the problem of an electron within a particular potential leading to the definition of new non-spherical angular functions.
A generalized version of standard map is quantized as a model of quantum chaos. It is shown that, in hyperbolic chaotic regime, second moment of quantum level velocity is $\sim 1/\hbar$ as predicted by the random matrix theory.
The classical and quantum formulations for open systems related to dissipative dynamics are constructed on a complex hyperbolic ring, following universal symmetry principles, and considering the double thermal fields approach for modeling the system of interest, and the environment. The hyperbolic rotations are revealed as an underlying internal symmetry for the dissipative dynamics, and a chemical potential is identified as conjugate variable to the charge operator, and thus a grand partition function is constructed. As opposed to the standard scheme, there are not patologies associated with …
Recently quantum-like representation algorithm (QLRA) was introduced by A. Khrennikov [20]--[28] to solve the so-called "inverse Born's rule problem": to construct a representation of probabilistic data by a complex or more general (in particular, hyperbolic) probability amplitude which matches Born's rule or its generalizations. The outcome from QLRA is coupled to the formula of total probability with an additional term corresponding to trigonometric, hyperbolic or hyper-trigonometric interference. The consistency of QLRA for probabilistic data corresponding to trigonometric interference was …
Engineering lattice models with tailored inter-site tunnelings and onsite energies could synthesize essentially arbitrary Riemannian surfaces with highly tunable local curvatures. Here, we point out that discrete synthetic Poincaré half-planes and Poincaré disks, which are created by lattices in flat planes, support infinitely degenerate eigenstates for any nonzero eigenenergies. Such Efimov-like states exhibit a discrete scaling symmetry and imply an unprecedented apparatus for studying quantum anomaly using hyperbolic surfaces. Furthermore, all eigenstates are exponentially localized in the …
Current work presents a new approach to quantum color codes on compact surfaces with genus $g \geq 2$ using the identification of these surfaces with hyperbolic polygons and hyperbolic tessellations. We show that this method may give rise to color codes with a very good parameters and we present tables with several examples of these codes whose parameters had not been shown before. We also present a family of codes with minimum distance $d=4$ and the encoding rate asymptotically going to 1 while $n \rightarrow \infty$.
Hyperbolic flows, as formulated by Anosov, are the prototypes of chaotic evolutions in classical dynamical systems. Here we provide a concise updated account of their quantum counterparts originally formulated by Emch, Narnhofer, Thirring and Sewell within the operator algebraic setting of quantum theory: and we discuss their bearing on the question of quantum chaos.
We develop a general theoretical framework of integrated paired photon-plasmon generation through spontaneous wave mixing in nonlinear plasmonic and metamaterial nanostructures, rigorously accounting for material dispersion and losses in quantum regime through the electromagnetic Green function. We identify photon-plasmon correlations in layered metal-dielectric structures with 70% internal heralding quantum efficiency, and reveal novel mechanism of broadband generation enhancement due to topological transition in hyperbolic metamaterials.
After close to two decades of research and development, superconducting circuits have emerged as a rich platform for both quantum computation and quantum simulation. Lattices of superconducting coplanar waveguide (CPW) resonators have been shown to produce artificial materials for microwave photons, where weak interactions can be introduced either via non-linear resonator materials or strong interactions via qubit-resonator coupling. Here, we highlight the previously-overlooked property that these lattice sites are deformable and allow the realization of tight-binding lattices which are unatta…
The confluent second-order supersymmetric quantum mechanics, in which the factorization energies tend to a common value, is used to generate Hamiltonians with known spectra departing from the hyperbolic Rosen-Morse and Eckart potentials. The possible spectral modifications, as to create a new level or to delete a given one, as well as the isospectral transformations, are discussed.
We show that nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond can produce a novel quantum hyperbolic metamaterial. We demonstrate that a hyperbolic dispersion relation in diamond with NV centers can be engineered and dynamically tuned by applying a magnetic field. This quantum hyperbolic metamaterial with a tunable window for the negative refraction allows for the construction of a superlens beyond the diffraction limit. In addition to subwavelength imaging, this NV-metamaterial can be used in spontaneous emission enhancement, heat transport and acoustics, analogue cosmology, and lifetime engineering.…
The classical and quantum solutions of a nonlinear model describing harmonic oscillators on the sphere and the hyperbolic plane, derived in polar coordinates in a recent paper [Phys.\ Lett.\ A 379 (2015) 1589], are extended by the inclusion of an isotonic term.
We adapt a construction of Guth and Lubotzky [arXiv:1310.5555] to obtain a family of quantum LDPC codes with non-vanishing rate and minimum distance scaling like $n^{0.1}$ where $n$ is the number of physical qubits. Similarly as in [arXiv:1310.5555], our homological code family stems from hyperbolic 4-manifolds equipped with tessellations. The main novelty of this work is that we consider a regular tessellation consisting of hypercubes. We exploit this strong local structure to design and analyze an efficient decoding algorithm.
Circuit quantum electrodynamics is one of the most promising platforms for efficient quantum simulation and computation. In recent groundbreaking experiments, the immense flexibility of superconducting microwave resonators was utilized to realize hyperbolic lattices that emulate quantum physics in negatively curved space. Here we investigate experimentally feasible settings in which a few superconducting qubits are coupled to a bath of photons evolving on the hyperbolic lattice. We compare our numerical results for finite lattices with analytical results for continuous hyperbolic space on the …
A simple derivation of the classical solutions of a nonlinear model describing a harmonic oscillator on the sphere and the hyperbolic plane is presented in polar coordinates. These solutions are then related to those in cartesian coordinates, whose form was previously guessed. In addition, the nature of the classical orthogonal polynomials entering the bound-state radial wavefunctions of the corresponding quantum model is identified.
We show how quantum many-body systems on hyperbolic lattices with nearest-neighbor hopping and local interactions can be mapped onto quantum field theories in continuous negatively curved space. The underlying lattices have recently been realized experimentally with superconducting resonators and therefore allow for a table-top quantum simulation of quantum physics in curved background. Our mapping provides a computational tool to determine observables of the discrete system even for large lattices, where exact diagonalization fails. As an application and proof of principle we quantitatively r…
A group of non-uniform quantum lattice Hamiltonians in one dimension is introduced, which is related to the hyperbolic $1 + 1$-dimensional space. The Hamiltonians contain only nearest neighbor interactions whose strength is proportional to $\cosh j λ$, where $j$ is the lattice index and where $λ\ge 0$ is a deformation parameter. In the limit $λ\to 0$ the Hamiltonians become uniform. Spacial translation of the deformed Hamiltonians is induced by the corner Hamiltonians. As a simple example, we investigate the ground state of the deformed $S = 1/2$ Heisenberg spin chain by use of the density mat…

We develop a new approach of the quantum phase in an Hilbert space of finite dimension which is based on the relation between the physical concept of phase locking and mathematical concepts such as cyclotomy and the Ramanujan sums. As a result, phase variability looks quite similar to its classical counterpart, having peaks at dimensions equal to a power of a prime number. Squeezing of the phase noise is allowed for specific quantum states. The concept of phase entanglement for Kloosterman pairs of phase-locked states is introduced.
It is shown that a general radial conformal Killing vector in Minkowski space-time can be associated to a generator of time evolution in conformal quantum mechanics. Among these conformal Killing vectors one finds a class which maps causal diamonds in Minkowski space-time into themselves. The flow of such Killing vectors describes worldlines of accelerated observers with a finite lifetime within the causal diamond. Time evolution of static diamond observers is equivalent to time evolution in conformal quantum mechanics governed by a hyperbolic Hamiltonian and covering only a segment of the tim…
This paper is the second part of a study of the quantum free particle on spherical and hyperbolic spaces by making use of a curvature-dependent formalism. Here we study the analogues, on the three-dimensional spherical and hyperbolic spaces, $S_\k^3$ ($κ>0$) and $H_\k^3$ ($κ<0$), to the standard {\itshape spherical waves} in $E^3$. The curvature $\k$ is considered as a parameter and for any $\k$ we show how the radial Schrödinger equation can be transformed into a $\k$-dependent Gauss hypergeometric equation that can be considered as a $\k$-deformation of the (spherical) Bessel equation. The s…
