In this paper we propose an approach to prepare GHZ states of an arbitrary multi-particle system in terms of Grover's fast quantum searching algorithm.
This approach can be regarded as an extension of the Grover's algorithm to find one or more items in an unsorted database.
We prove that there is no quantum speed-up when using quantum Monte-Carlo to estimate the mean (and other moments) of analytically-defined log-concave probability distributions prepared as quantum states using the Grover-Rudolph method.
Linear combination of unitaries (LCU for short) is one of the most important techniques in designing quantum algorithms. In this paper, we propose a new quantum algorithm in three different forms to achieve LCU. Different from previous algorithms [Childs-linear-system,Clader,Long11], the complexity now only depends on the number of the unitaries and the precision. So it will play more important role in the design of quantum algorithms when the number of unitaries is small, such as quantum iteration algorithms. %Since in iteration algorithms, $m$ often refers to the iteration steps, which is sm…
We propose a circuit-model quantum algorithm for eigenpath traversal that is based on a combination of concepts from Grover's search and adiabatic quantum computation. Our algorithm deploys a sequence of reflections determined from eigenspaces of instantaneous Hamiltonians defined along an adiabatic schedule in order to prepare a ground state of a target problem Hamiltonian. We provide numerical evidence suggesting that, for combinatorial search problems, our algorithm can find a solution faster, on average, than Grover's search. We demonstrate our findings by applying both algorithms to solvi…

Grover's search algorithm was originally proposed for circuit-based quantum computers. A crucial part of it is to query an oracle -- a black-box unitary operation. Generation of this oracle is formally beyond the original algorithm design. Here, we propose a realization of Grover's oracle for a large class of searching problems using a quantum annealing step. The time of this step grows only logarithmically with the size of the database. This suggests an efficient path to application of Grover's algorithm to practically important problems, such as finding the ground state of a Hamiltonian with…
We propose GM-QAOA, a variation of the Quantum Alternating Operator Ansatz (QAOA) that uses Grover-like selective phase shift mixing operators. GM-QAOA works on any NP optimization problem for which it is possible to efficiently prepare an equal superposition of all feasible solutions; it is designed to perform particularly well for constraint optimization problems, where not all possible variable assignments are feasible solutions. GM-QAOA has the following features: (i) It is not susceptible to Hamiltonian Simulation error (such as Trotterization errors) as its operators can be implemented e…
Grover's algorithm is one of the most famous algorithms which explicitly demonstrates how the quantum nature can be utilized to accelerate the searching process. In this work, Grover's quantum search problem is mapped to a time-optimal control problem. Resorting to Pontryagin's Minimum Principle we find that the time-optimal solution has the bang-singular-bang structure. This structure can be derived naturally, without integrating the differential equations, using the geometric control technique where Hamiltonians in the Schrödinger's equation are represented as vector fields. In view of optim…
This article highlights some of the key operating principles of Grover algorithm. These principles were used to develop a new oracle function, that illustrates the possibility of using Grover algorithm for solving more realistic and specific search problems, like searching for a solution to a simple mathematical equation.
Numerous sufficient conditions for adiabaticity of the evolution of a driven quantum system have been known for quite a long time. In contrast, necessary adiabatic conditions are scarce. A practicable necessary condition well-suited for many-body systems has been proven recently in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 200401 (2017)]. Here we tailor this condition for estimating run times of quantum adiabatic algorithms. As an illustration, the condition is applied to the adiabatic algorithm for searching in an unstructured database (adiabatic Grover search algorithm). We find that thus obtained lower bound …
As the engineering endeavour to realise quantum computers progresses, we consider that such machines need not rely on binary as their de facto unit of information. We investigate Grover's algorithm under a generalised quantum circuit model, in which the information and transformations can be expressed in any arity, and analyse the structural and behavioural properties while preserving the semantics; namely, searching for the unique preimage to an output a function. We conclude by demonstrating that the generalised procedure retains $O(\sqrt{N})$ time complexity.

Black-box quantum state preparation is a fundamental primitive in quantum algorithms. Starting from Grover, a series of techniques have been devised to reduce the complexity. In this work, we propose to perform black-box state preparation using the technique of linear combination of unitaries (LCU). We provide two algorithms based on a different structure of LCU. Our algorithms improve upon the existed best results by reducing the required additional qubits and Toffoli gates to 2log(n) and n, respectively, in the bit precision n. We demonstrate the algorithms using the IBM Quantum Experience c…
We demonstrated the detailed construction of the hybrid quantum-classical computer. Based on this architecture, the useful concept of amplitude interception is illustrated. It is then embedded into a combination of Depth-First Search and Grover's algorithm to generate a novel approach, the Depth-First Grover Search(DFGS), to handle multi-solution searching problems on unstructured databases with an unknown number of solutions. Our new algorithm attains an average complexity of $\mathcal{O}(m\sqrt{N})$ which performs as efficient as a normal Grover Search, and a $\mathcal{O}(\sqrt{p}N)$ complex…
