Tests Of The Charged Particle Stepper With Muons

The muons reconstruction package for the SID/ILC detector has been extended to include the Electro-Magnetic Calorimeter. The procedure previously used to reconstruct the charged tracks, an helical fit approximation, has been replaced by a step by step analytical method accounting for the magnetic field and the energy loss by ionization. The trajectory of the muons and the impact of the method on the muon identification efficiency is analyzed. One compares the behavior of muons of different energies in the (x,y)plane and the (px,py) plane of the sub-detectors.

Improvements to the LC Muon Tracking and Identification Software

Evolution of the Muon-ID package originally written by R. Markeloff at NIU. The original method used a helical swimmer to extrapolate the tracks from the Interaction Point and to collect hits in all sub-detectors: the electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters and the muon detector. Atmospheric Charged $K/π$ Ratio and Measurement of Muon Annual Modulation with a Liquid Scintillation Detector at Soudan

We report a measurement of muon annual modulation in a 12-liter liquid scintillation detector with a live-time of more than 4 years at the Soudan Underground Laboratory. Muon minimum ionization in the detector is identified by its observed pulse shape and large energy deposition. The measured muon rate in the detector is 28.69$\pm$2.09 muons per day with a modulation amplitude of 2.66$\pm$ 1.0\% and a phase at Jul 22 $\pm$ 36.2 days. Micro-Pattern Gas Detectors for Charged-Particle Tracking and Muon Detection

In the context of the 2013 APS-DPF Snowmass summer study conducted by the U.S. HEP community, this white paper outlines a roadmap for further development of Micro-pattern Gas Detectors for tracking and muon detection in HEP experiments. We briefly discuss technical requirements and summarize current capabilities of these detectors with a focus of operation in experiments at the energy frontier in the medium-term to long-term future. Some key directions for future R&D on Micro-pattern Gas Detectors in the U.S. are suggested.

Measurements of Inclusive Muon Neutrino and Antineutrino Charged Current Differential Cross Sections on Argon in the NuMI Antineutrino Beam

The ArgoNeuT collaboration presents measurements of inclusive muon neutrino and antineutrino charged current differential cross sections on argon in the Fermilab NuMI beam operating in the low energy antineutrino mode. The results are reported in terms of outgoing muon angle and momentum at a mean neutrino energy of 9.6 GeV (neutrinos) and 3.6 GeV (antineutrinos), in the range $0^\circ < θ_μ< 36^\circ$ and $0 < p_μ< 25$ GeV/$c$, for both neutrinos and antineutrinos.

Track Reconstruction in the NOvA Experiment

The NuMI Off-Axis v Appearance (NOvA) experiment is a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment using a neutrino source created from the NuMI Beamline at Fermilab. The experiment will study the oscillations of muon neutrinos to electron neutrinos using two functionally identical plastic, liquid scintillator filled detectors placed 14 milliradians off-axis to the NuMI beam. Cross Section Measurements with Monoenergetic Muon Neutrinos

The monoenergetic 236 MeV muon neutrino from charged kaon decay-at-rest ($K^+ \rightarrow μ^+ ν_μ$) can be used to produce a novel set of cross section measurements.
