Ab initio calculations have been carried out to study the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants of $^{205}$Pb$^+$. Many-body effects have been considered to all orders using the relativistic coupled-cluster theory in the singles, doubles and partial triples approximation. The trends of these effects are found to be different from atomic systems that have been studied earlier.
Based on the results of accurate variational calculations we demonstrate stability of the five-body negatively charged ions $a^{+} b^{+} μ^{-} e^{-} e^{-}$. Each of these five-body ions contains two electrons $e^{-}$, one negatively charged muon $μ^{-}$ and two nuclei of the hydrogen isotopes $a, b = (p, d, t)$. The bound state properties of these five-body ions, including their hyperfine structure, are briefly discussed. We also investigate the hyperfine structure of the ground states of the four-body muonic quasi-atoms $a^{+} b^{+} μ^{-} e^{-}$. In particular, we determine the hyperfine stru…
We prepare mixtures of ultracold $^{39}$K atoms in various hyperfine spin states and $^{23}$Na$^{39}$K molecules in an optical dipole trap at a fixed magnetic field and study inelastic two-body atom-molecule collisions. We observe atom-molecule losses that are hyperfine dependent with a two-body loss rate far below the universal limit. We analyze the two-body loss dynamics based on the derivation of general and easy applicable analytic solutions for the differential equations describing the loss of an arbitrary number $γ$ of particles in a single collisional event.
We present an experimental and theoretical investigation of the polarizabilities and hyperfine constants of D_J states in 133Cs for J=3/2 and J=5/2. New experimental values for the hyperfine constant A are obtained from level-crossing signals of the (7,9,10)D_5/2 states of 133Cs and precise calculations of the tensor polarizabilities alpha_2. The results of relativistic many-body calculations for scalar and tensor polarizabilities of the (5-10)D_3/2 and (5-10)D_5/2 states are presented and compared with measured values from the literature. Calculated values of the hyperfine constants A for the…
Removal energies and hyperfine constants of the lowest four $ns, np_{1/2}$ and $np_{3/2}$ states in Na, K, Rb and Cs are calculated; removal energies of the n=7--10 states and hyperfine constants of the n=7 and 8 states in Fr are also calculated. The calculations are based on the relativistic single-double (SD) approximation in which single and double excitations of Dirac-Hartree-Fock (DHF) wave functions are included to all-orders in perturbation theory. Using SD wave functions, accurate values of removal energies, electric-dipole matrix elements and static polarizabilities are obtained, howe…
This work presents accurate ab initio determination of the hyperfine splitting for the ground state and few low-lying excited states of 113Cd+; important candidates for the frequency standard in the microwave region, using coupled-cluster theory (CC) in the relativistic framework. The calculated hyperfine splitting are well in agreement with recent experimental results. We have also carried out the lifetimes of the 5p2P1=2 and 5p2P3=2 states, which are in well agreement with recent experimental result (Moehring et al., PRA 73 023413, 2006). The roles of different electron correlation effects i…
We have employed the relativistic coupled cluster theory to calculate the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine constants for the ground and low lying excited states of singly ionized magnesium. Comparison with experimental and the other theoretical results are done and predictions are also made for a few low lying excited states which could be of interest. We have made comparative studies of the important many body effects contributing to the hyperfine constants for the different states of the ion.
The present work determines the precise values of magic wavelengths corresponding to the clock transitions 5$^2S$-4$^2D$ of Y$^{2+}$ ion both at the levels of fine- and hyperfine-structures due to the external light beams having linear as well as circular polarization. To calculate the dynamic polarizabilities of the associated states of the transitions, we employ the sum-over-states technique, where the dominating and correlation sensitive part of the sum is evaluated using a highly correlated relativistic coupled-cluster theory. The estimated magic wavelengths of the light beams have substan…
We report the theoretical evaluations of the static scalar polarizability of the 133Cs ground state and of the black body radiation shift induced on the transition frequency between the two hyperfine levels with m_F = 0. This shift is of fundamental importance in the evaluation of the accuracy of the primary frequency standards based on atomic fountains and employed in the realization of the SI second in the International Atomic Time (TAI) scale at the level of 1e-15. Our computed value for the polarizability is alpha_0=6.600(16)e-39 Cm^2/V in agreement at the level of 1e-3 with recent theoret…
We present a quantum theory of ion-atom interaction that is applicable at energies comparable to or smaller than the atomic hyperfine splitting and takes proper account of the effects of identical nuclei. The theory reveals the subtlety and the complexity of cold ion-atom interactions including the change of threshold behavior due to hyperfine splitting and the existence of a large number, and a variety of scattering resonances between hyperfine thresholds. We show how this complexity is described, efficiently and at a quantitative level, using a multichannel quantum-defect theory that we pres…
This work presents precise calculations of important electromagnetic transition amplitudes along with detail of their many-body correlations using relativistic coupled cluster method. Studies of hyperfine interaction constants, useful for plasma diagnostic, with this correlation exhaustive many-body approach are another important area of this work. The calculated oscillator strengths of allowed transitions, amplitudes of forbidden transitions and lifetimes are compared with the other theoretical results wherever available and they show a good agreement. Hyperfine constants of different isotope…
We investigate Cs+Cs scattering in excited Zeeman and hyperfine states. We calculate the real and imaginary parts of the s-wave scattering length; the imaginary part directly provides the rate coefficient for 2-body inelastic loss, while the real part allows us to identify regions of magnetic field where 3-body recombination will be slow. We identify field regions where Cs in its $(f,m_f)=(3,+2)$ and $(3,+1)$ states may be stable enough to allow Bose-Einstein condensation, and additional regions for these and the $(3,0)$ and $(3,-3)$ states where high-density clouds should be long-lived.
Energy levels of 30 low-lying states of Lu2+ and allowed electric-dipole matrix elements between these states are evaluated using a relativistic all-order method in which all single, double and partial triple excitations of Dirac-Fock wave functions are included to all orders of perturbation theory. Matrix elements are critically evaluated for their accuracy and recommended values of the matrix elements are given together with uncertainty estimates. Line strengths, transition rates and lifetimes of the metastable 5d(3/2) and 5d(5/2) states are calculated. Recommended values are given for stati…
The precision measurements of the ratio of hyperfine structure constants for $s_{1/2}$ and $p_{1/2}$ states allow us to estimate the difference between hyperfine magnetic anomalies for these levels. We calculate the atomic factor in order to recover the absolute values of the hyperfine magnetic anomalies from their difference. Taking into account the hyperfine anomaly correction allows one to increase the accuracy of determining the g-factors of short-lived isotopes by more than an order of magnitude.
We report the relativistic coupled cluster study of the hyperfine structure and effect of the nuclear magnetization distribution (Bohr-Weisskopf effect) in the $6P_{1/2}$, $6P_{3/2}$ and $7S_{1/2}$ states of several Tl isotopes. It is shown that the Gaussian basis set can be used in such electronic structure calculations and provide a good accuracy. For the ground electronic state of the neutral Tl atom achieved uncertainty for the hyperfine structure constant is smaller than 1\%. A strong Bohr-Weisskopf correction (about 16\%) was found for the $6P_{3/2}$ state which can be of interest for th…
Collective excitations (spinwaves) of long-lived atomic hyperfine states can be synthesized into a Bose-Hubbard model in momentum space. We explore many-body ground states and dynamics of a two-leg momentum-space lattice formed by two coupled hyperfine states. Essential ingredients of this setting are a staggered artificial magnetic field engineered by lasers that couple the spinwave states, and a state-dependent long-range interaction, which is induced by laser-dressing a hyperfine state to a Rydberg state. The Rydberg dressed two-body interaction gives rise to a state-dependent blockade in m…
We have performed relativistic many-body calculations of the hyperfine interaction in the $6s$ and $7s$ states of Cs, including the off-diagonal matrix element. The calculations were used to determine the accuracy of the semi-empirical formula for the electromagnetic transition amplitude $<6s|M1|7s>$ induced by the hyperfine interaction. We have found that even though the contribution of the many-body effects into the matrix elements is very large, the square root formula $<6s|H_{hfs}|7s > = \sqrt{< 6s|H_{hfs}|6s > < 7s|H_{hfs}|7s >}$ remains valid to the accuracy of a fraction of $10^{-3}$. T…
We calculate energies and hyperfine structure constants A and B for low-lying levels of $^{173}$Yb. The latter is treated as a two-electron atom. To account for valence-valence correlations the configuration interaction method is used. Valence-core correlations are accounted for within the many-body perturbation theory which is used to construct effective two-electron operators in the valence space.
We have systematically investigated the ground-state hyperfine structure for alkali-metal atoms ^{87}Rb, ^{133}Cs, ^{211}Fr and alkali-metal-like ions ^{135}Ba^+, ^{225}Ra^+, which are of particular interest for parity violation studies. The quantum electrodynamic one-loop radiative corrections have been rigorously evaluated within an extended Furry picture employing core-Hartree and Kohn-Sham atomic potentials. Moreover, the effect of the nuclear magnetization distribution on the hyperfine structure intervals has been studied in detail and its uncertainty has been estimated. Finally, the theo…
A rigorous evaluation of the two-photon exchange corrections to the hyperfine structure in lithiumlike heavy ions is presented. As a result, the theoretical accuracy of the specific difference between the hyperfine splitting values of H- and Li-like Bi ions is significantly improved. This opens a possibility for the stringent test of the many-electron QED effects on a few percent level in the strongest electromagnetic field presently available in experiments.
We apply relativistic many-body methods to compute static differential polarizabilities for transitions inside the ground-state hyperfine manifolds of monovalent atoms and ions. Knowing this transition polarizability is required in a number of high-precision experiments, such as microwave atomic clocks and searches for CP-violating permanent electric dipole moments. While the traditional polarizability arises in the second-order of interaction with the externally-applied electric field, the differential polarizability involves additional contribution from the hyperfine interaction of atomic el…
The relativistic Breit Hamiltonian between electrons is transformed into an effective vector potential ${\bf A}_i$ for the $i.$th electron, ${\bf A}_i$ having the structure of a recoil--corrected hyperfine operator. Apart from a small three--body operator, the Dirac--Breit equation is now easier applied to relativistic magnetic properties of complex systems.
The rigorous QED evaluation of the one- and two-photon exchange corrections to the ground-state hyperfine splitting in Li-like ions is presented for the wide range of nuclear charge number $Z= 7 - 82$. The calculations are carried out in the framework of the extended Furry picture, i.e., with inclusion of the effective local screening potential in the zeroth-order approximation. The interelectronic-interaction contributions of the third and higher orders are taken into account in the framework of the Breit approximation employing the recursive perturbation theory. In comparison to the previous…
Molecular hydrogen ions in weakly bound states close to the first dissociation threshold are attractive quantum sensors for measuring the proton-to-electron mass ratio and hyperfine-induced ortho-para mixing. The experimental accuracy of previous spectroscopic studies relying on fast ion beams could be improved by using state-of-the-art ion trap setups. With the electric dipole moment vanishing in H$_2^+$ and preventing fast spontaneous emission, radiative lifetimes of the order of weeks are found. We include the effect of black-body radiation that can lead to photodissociation and rovibronic …
Demands from several areas of science and technology have lead to a worldwide search for accurate optical clocks with an uncertainty of 1 part in $10^{18}$, which is $10^{3}$ times more accurate than the present day cesium atomic clocks based on microwave frequency regime. In this article we discuss the electric quadrupole and the hyperfine shifts in the $5s ^{2}S_{1/2}\longrightarrow4d ^{2}D_{5/2}$ clock transition in $\mathrm{Sr^{+}}$, one of the most promising candidates for next generation optical clocks. We have applied relativistic coupled cluster theory for determining the electric quad…
The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) model has been employed to calculate the expectation values for the hyperfine splittings of the 5d96s2 2D3/2 and 5d96s2 2D5/2 levels of atomic gold. One-, two-, and three-body electron correlation effects involving all 79 electrons have been included in a systematic manner. The approximation employed in this study is equivalent to a Complete Active Space (CAS) approach. Calculated electric field gradients, together with experimental values of the electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants, allow us to extract a nuclear electric quadrupol…
The influence of hyperfine interactions on the tune-out wavelengths of the $^{39,40,41}$K isotopes of the potassium atom was investigated. The hyperfine interaction of the $4s_{1/2}$ state result in a shift and splitting of the primary tune-out wavelength near 769 nm. The $4s_{1/2}$ ground state hyperfine splittings of the primary tune-out were almost equal to the hyperfine splittings of the ground states. The splittings in the wavelengths were 0.0008, 0.0027 and 0.0005 nm for $^{39}$K, $^{40}$K and $^{41}$K respectively. The hyperfine splitting of the $np_{J}$ levels leads to the creation of …
This paper describes measurements of the hyperfine structure of two antiprotonic atoms that are planned at the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) at CERN. The first part deals with antiprotonic helium, a three-body system of alpha-particle, antiproton and electron that was previously studied at LEAR. A measurement will test existing three-body calculations and may - through comparison with these theories - determine the magnetic moment of the antiproton more precisely than currently available, thus providing a test of CPT invariance. The second system, antihydrogen, consisting of an antiproton and a …
The hyperfine structure of the long-lived $5D_{3/2}$ and $5D_{5/2}$ levels of Ba$^+$ ion is analyzed. A procedure for extracting relatively unexplored nuclear magnetic moments $Ω$ is presented. The relevant electronic matrix elements are computed in the framework of the ab initio relativistic many-body perturbation theory. Both the first- and the second-order (in the hyperfine interaction) corrections to the energy levels are analyzed. It is shown that a simultaneous measurement of the hyperfine structure of the entire $5D_J$ fine-structure manifold allows one to extract $Ω$ without contaminat…
Hyperfine-structures of highly charged ions (HCIs) are favourable spectroscopic targets for exploring fundamental physics as well as nuclear properties. Recent proposals of HCI atomic clocks highlight their importance, especially for many-electron HCIs, and they have been theoretically investigated by refining atomic-structure calculations. Nonetheless, no established spectroscopic method is currently available to verify these theoretical calculations. Here, we demonstrate hyperfine-structure-resolved laser spectroscopy of HCIs in an electron beam ion trap plasma, employing the magnetic-dipole…
Hyperfine constants and anomalies of ground as well as few low lying excited states of $^{113,115,117}$In III are studied with highly correlated relativistic coupled-cluster theory. The ground state hyperfine splitting of $^{115}$In III is estimated to be 106.8 GHz. A shift of almost 1.9 GHz of the above frequency has been calculated due to modified nuclear dipole moment. This splitting result shows its applicability as communication band and frequency standards at $10^{-11}$ sec. Correlations study of hyperfine constants indicates a few distinct features of many-body effects in the wave-funct…
This work presents a first time accurate calculation of the magnetic dipole hyperfine structure constants for the ground state and some low-lying excited states of Pb$^+$. By comparing different levels of approximation with experimental results, we demonstrate the importance of correlation effects which reach beyond lower order relativistic many body perturbation theory. Employing relativistic coupled-cluster theory we obtain a quantitative understanding of the core-polarization and correlation effects inherent in this system and observe completely different trends compared to $Ba^+$.
By solving the two-body Schordinger equation in a very high precise nonperturbative numerical (NPnum) way, we reexamine the contributions of fine, hyperfine structure splittings of muonic hydrogen based on the Breit potential. The comparison of our results with those by the first order perturbative theory ($^{1st}$PT) in the literature shows, when the structure of proton is considered, the differences between the results by the $^{1st}$PT and NPnum methods are small for the fine and hyperfine splitting of $2P$ state, while are about $-0.009$ meV and $0.08$ meV for the $F=1$ and total hyperfine…
The Dirac-Hartree-Fock plus many-body perturbation theory (DHF+MBPT) method has been used to calculate hyperfine structure constants for Fr. Calculated hyperfine structure anomaly for hydrogen-like ion has been shown to be in good agreement with analytical expressions. It has been shown that the ratio of the anomalies for $s$ and $p_{1/2}$ states is weakly dependent on the principal quantum number. Finally, we estimate Bohr--Weisskopf corrections for several Fr isotopes. Our results may be used to improve experimental accuracy for the nuclear $g$ factors of short-lived isotopes.
We investigate electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constant ($B$) results in $^{135}$Ba$^+$ and $^{137}$Ba$^+$ and compare their ratios with the reported measurements of the ratio between the nuclear quadrupole moment ($Q$) values of these isotopes. We carry out confidence tests for the reported experimental $B$ values and calculations of $B/Q$ from the present work. Inconsistencies in the experimental $B$ values are observed in both the isotopes from different experiments performed using the same techniques. The present calculations are carried out using an all order relativistic many-bod…
Measuring the hyperfine structure (HFS) of long-lived $^3P_2$ states of divalent atoms may offer the opportunity of extracting relatively unexplored nuclear magnetic octupole and electric hexadecapole moments. Here, using relativistic many-body methods of atomic structure and the nuclear shell model, we evaluate the effect of these higher nuclear moments on the hyperfine structure. We find that the sensitivity of HFS interval measurements in $^{87}$Sr needed to reveal the perturbation caused by the nuclear octupole moment is on the order of kHz. Results of similar analyses for $^{9}$Be, $^{25}…
We perform accurate calculations of energy levels as well as fine and hyperfine splittings of the lowest $^{1,3}\!P_J$, $^{3}\!S_1$, $^{3}\!P^e_J$, and $^{1,3}\!D_J$ excited states of the $^9$Be atom using explicitly correlated Gaussian functions and report on the breakdown of the standard hyperfine structure theory. Because of the strong hyperfine mixing, which prevents the use of common hyperfine constants, we formulate a description of the fine and hyperfine structure that is valid for an arbitrary coupling strength and may have wide applications in many other atomic systems.
Energy levels, magnetic dipole, and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure of the superheavy element rutherfordium (Rf, $Z$=104) and its first three ions are calculated using a combination of the configuration interaction, coupled-cluster single-doubles, and many-body perturbation theory techniques. The results are to be used in future interpretations of the measurements in terms of nuclear magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole momenta. To have a guide on the accuracy of the study, we perform similar calculations for hafnium (Hf, $Z$=72) and its ions. Hf is a lighter analog of Rf with a sim…
Correction to the hyperfine constant $A$ of an external s-electron in many-electron atom caused by the Breit interaction is calculated analytically: $δA/A =0.68 Zα^2$. Physical mechanism for this correction is polarization of the internal electronic shells (mainly $1s^2$ shell) by the magnetic field of the external electron. This mechanism is similar to the polarization of vacuum considered by Karplus and Klein long time ago. The similarity is the reason why in both cases (Dirac sea polarization and internal atomic shells polarization) the corrections have the same dependence on the nuclear ch…
Calculations of the magnetic hyperfine structure rely on the input of nuclear properties -- nuclear magnetic moments and nuclear magnetization distributions -- as well as quantum electrodynamic (QED) radiative corrections for high-accuracy evaluation in heavy atoms. The uncertainties associated with assumed values of these properties limit the accuracy of hyperfine calculations. For example, for the heavy alkali-metal atoms Cs and Fr, these uncertainties may amount collectively to almost 1\% or 2\%, respectively. In this paper we propose a method for removing the dependence of hyperfine struct…
We demonstrate the importance of electron correlation effects in the hyperfine structure constants of many low-lying states in $^{210}$Fr and $^{212}$Fr. This is achieved by calculating the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants using the Dirac-Fock approximation, second order many-body perturbation theory and the coupled-cluster method in the singles and doubles approximation in the relativistic framework. By combining our recommended theoretical results with the corresponding experimental values, improved nuclear magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments …
We report on the first experimental results for microwave spectroscopy of the hyperfine structure of antiprotonic He-3. Due to the helium nuclear spin, antiprotonic He-3 has a more complex hyperfine structure than antiprotonic He-4 which has already been studied before. Thus a comparison between theoretical calculations and the experimental results will provide a more stringent test of the three-body quantum electrodynamics (QED) theory. Two out of four super-super-hyperfine (SSHF) transition lines of the (n,L)=(36,34) state were observed. The measured frequencies of the individual transitions…
We suggest a method to calculate hyperfine anomaly for many-electron atoms and ions. At first, we tested this method by calculating hyperfine anomaly for hydrogen-like thallium ion and obtained fairly good agreement with analytical expressions. Then we did calculations for the neutral thallium and tested an assumption, that the the ratio between the anomalies for $s$ and $p_{1/2}$ states is the same for these two systems. Finally, we come up with recommendations about preferable atomic states for the precision measurements of the nuclear $g$ factors.
Corrections from Breit interaction to basic properties of atomic 133Cs are determined in the framework of third-order relativistic many-body perturbation theory. The corrections to energies, hyperfine-structure constants, off-diagonal hyperfine 6S-7S amplitude, and electric-dipole matrix elements are tabulated. It is demonstrated that the Breit corrections to correlations are comparable to the Breit corrections at the Dirac-Hartree-Fock level. Modification of the parity-nonconserving (PNC) 6S-7S amplitude due to Breit interaction is also evaluated; the resulting weak charge of $^{133}$Cs shows…
Roles of electron correlation effects in the determination of attachment energies, magnetic dipole hyperfine structure constants and electric dipole (E1) matrix elements of the low-lying states in the singly charged cadmium ion (Cd$^+$) have been analyzed. We employ the singles and doubles approximated relativistic coupled-cluster (RCC) method to calculate these properties. Intermediate results from the Dirac-Hartree-Fock approximation, second-order many-body perturbation theory and considering only the linear terms of the RCC method are given to demonstrate propagation of electron correlation…
Stark-induced electric dipole amplitudes between states of the same nominal parity can be important in experiments to observe parity nonconservation in atoms. The Stark-induced E1 amplitudes are expressed in terms of an irreducible spherical-tensor decomposition. This formalism is applied to the specific case of transitions between hyperfine sublevels of a single atomic state. It is shown that in the ground states of alkali atoms, such transitions are suppressed by many orders of magnitude relative to naive expectations.
Employing two state-of-the-art methods, multiconfiguration Dirac--Hartree--Fock and second-order many-body perturbation theory, highly accurate calculations are performed for the lowest 272 fine-structure levels arising from the $2s^{2} 2p^{3}$, $2s 2p^{4}$, $2p^{5}$, $2s^{2} 2p^{2} 3l$~($l=s,p,d$), $2s 2p^{3}3l$ ($l=s,p,d$), and $2p^{4} 3l$ ($l=s,p,d$) configurations in nitrogen-like Ge XXVI. Complete and consistent atomic data, including excitation energies, lifetimes, wavelengths, hyperfine structures, Landé $g_{J}$-factors, and E1, E2, M1, M2 line strengths, oscillator strengths, and trans…
Neutral uranium (U I) is a very difficult atom for theoretical calculations due to a large number of valence electrons, six, strong valence-valence and valence-core correlations, high density of states, and relativistic effects. Configuration-interaction many-body perturbation theory (CI-MBPT) can treat efficiently valence-core correlations and relativistic effects, but because the formalism was developed for Dirac-Hartree-Fock (DHF) starting potential that does not contain valence electrons, quite large CI space is needed to compensate for +6 charge of such a potential. Much more efficient is…

In this paper we study the influence of electron screening on the Bohr-Weisskopf (BW) effect in many-electron atoms. The BW effect gives the finite-nucleus magnetization contribution to the hyperfine structure. Relativistic atomic many-body calculations are performed for s and p_1/2 states of several systems of interest for studies of atomic parity violation and time-reversal-violating electric dipole moments -- Rb, Cs, Fr, Ba+, Ra+, and Tl. For s states, electron screening effects are small, and the relative BW correction for hydrogenlike ions and neutral atoms is approximately the same. We r…
We report on the creation of an ultracold dipolar gas of fermionic $^{23}$Na$^{40}$K molecules in their absolute rovibrational and hyperfine ground state. Starting from weakly bound Feshbach molecules, we demonstrate hyperfine resolved two-photon transfer into the singlet ${\rm X}^1Σ^+ |v{=}0,J{=}0\rangle$ ground state, coherently bridging a binding energy difference of 0.65 eV via stimulated rapid adiabatic passage. The spin-polarized, nearly quantum degenerate molecular gas displays a lifetime longer than 2.5 s, highlighting NaK's stability against two-body chemical reactions. A homogeneous …
Hyperfine structures of $^{211}$Fr due to the interactions of magnetic dipole ($μ$), electric quadrupole ($Q$) and magnetic octupole ($Ω$) moments with the electrons are investigated using the relativistic coupled-cluster (RCC) theory with an approximation of singles, doubles and important valence triples excitations in the perturbative approach. Validity of our calculations are substantiated by comparing the results with their available experimental values. Its $Q$ value has also been elevated by combining the measured hyperfine structure constant of the $7p \ ^2P_{3/2}$ state with our improv…
We calculate the DC Stark effect for three molecular hydrogen ions in the non-relativistic approximation. The effect is calculated both in dependence on the rovibrational state and in dependence on the hyperfine state. We discuss special cases and approximations. We also calculate the AC polarisabilities for several rovibrational levels, and therefrom evaluate accurately the black-body radiation shift, including the effects of excited electronic states. The results enable the detailed evaluation of certain systematic shifts of the transitions frequencies for the purpose of ultra-high-precision…
Polarized atomic beam sources have been in operation since many years to produce either nuclear polarized atomic hydrogen or deuterium beams. In recent experiments such a source was used to polarize both isotopes independently at the same time. By recombination of the atoms, HD molecules with all possible nuclear spin combinations can be created. Those spin isomers are useful for further applications like precision spectroscopy, as polarized targets for laser-particle acceleration, polarized fuel for fusion reactors or as an option for future measurements of electric dipole moments.
