Resonant Laser Cooling of Relativistic Charges Beams

In work is considered average transverse dynamics of an electron beam in the autoresonant laser. It is shown, that in approach of the given external electromagnetic wave (small gain free electron laser) transverse emittance of a beam of the charged particles decreases. This for the first time found out effect can be used for cooling beams of various accelerators of the charged particles. In the field of particle energy about 100 in the mass energy units, beam energy losses are negligible. This method of charge beams cooling may be applied to electron, muon and various heavy particle beams.

We study a method of laser-Compton cooling of electron beams. Using a Monte Carlo code, we evaluate the effects of the laser-electron interaction for transverse cooling. The optics with and without chromatic correction for the cooling are examined. The laser-Compton cooling for JLC/NLC at E_0=2 GeV is considered.

Cooling rates and intensity limitations for laser-cooled ions at relativistic energies

The ability of laser cooling for relativistic ion beams is investigated. For this purpose, the excitation of relativistic ions with a continuous wave and a pulsed laser is analyzed, utilizing the optical Bloch equations. The laser cooling force is derived in detail and its scaling with the relativistic factor $γ$ is discussed. The cooling processes with a continuous wave and a pulsed laser system are investigated. Fast Laser Cooling of Long Lived Ion Beams

Some peculiarities of fast laser cooling of long-lived ion beams in storage rings are discussed. Selective interaction of ions and broadband laser beam with sharp frequency and geometric edges is used while laser and ion beams are partially overlapped. The rates of change of the ion beam density in different regions of the phase space and at different moments of time in this scheme of cooling differ. That is why the generalized Robinson theorem valid for the infinitesimal phase space regions of non exponential cooling in turn is used to interpret the results.

Neural Network Model Of The PXIE RFQ Cooling System and Resonant Frequency Response

As part of the PIP-II Injector Experiment (PXIE) accelerator, a four-vane radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) accelerates a 30-keV, 1-mA to 10-mA H- ion beam to 2.1 MeV. Laser cooling of electron beams at linear colliders

A method of electron beam cooling is considered which can be used for linear colliders. The electron beam is cooled during collision with focused powerful laser pulse. The ultimate transverse emittances are much below those achievable by other methods. This method is especially useful for high energy gamma-gamma colliders. In this paper we review and analyse limitations in this method, also discuss a new method of obtaining very high laser powers required for the laser cooling, radiation conditions and finaly present a possible scheme for the laser cooling of electron beams.

Longitudinal and transverse cooling of relativistic electron beams in intense laser pulses

With the emergence in the next few years of a new breed of high power laser facilities, it is becoming increasingly important to understand how interacting with intense laser pulses affects the bulk properties of a relativistic electron beam. Laser cooling of electron beams for linear colliders

A novel method of electron beam cooling is considered which can be used for linear colliders. The electron beam is cooled during collision with focused powerful laser pulse. With reasonable laser parameters (laser flash energy about 10 J) one can decrease transverse beam emittances by a factor about 10 per one stage. The ultimate transverse emittances are much below those achievable by other methods. Beam depolarization during cooling is about 5--15 % for one stage. This method is especially useful for photon colliders and opens new possibilities for e+e- colliders.

Semi-classical beam cooling in an intense laser pulse

We present a novel technique for studying the evolution of a particle distribution using single particle dynamics such that the distribution can be accurately reconstructed using fewer particles than existing approaches. To demonstrate this, the Landau-Lifshiftz description of radiation reaction is adapted into a semi-classical model, for which the Vlasov equation is intractable. Collision between an energetic electron bunch and high-intensity laser pulses are then compared using the two theories. Reduction in beam cooling is observed for the semi-classical case.

Development of optical resonant cavities for laser-Compton scattering

We have been developing optical resonant cavities for laser-Compton scattering experiment at the Accelerator Test Facility in KEK. The main subject of the R&D is to increase laser pulse energy by coherently accumulating the pulses in an optical resonant cavity. We report previous results, current status and future prospects, including a new idea of an optical resonant cavity.

Laser Cooling of TeV Muons

We show that Compton scattering can be used to cool TeV-scale muon beams, and we derive analytical expressions for the equilibrium transverse angular spread, longitudinal energy spread, and power requirements. We find that a factor of a few thousand reduction in emittance is possible for a 3 TeV muon collider.
