The high-power RF systems for the Accelerator Production of Tritium (APT) program require high-power circulators at 350 MHz and 700 MHz to protect 1 MW Continuous Wave (CW) klystrons from reflected power. The 350 MHz circulator is based on the CERN, ESRF, and APS designs and has performed very well. The 700 MHz circulator is a new design. Prototype 700 MHz circulators have been high-power tested at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The first of these circulators has satisfied performance requirements. The circulator requirements, results from the testing, and lessons learned from this development are presented and discussed.
We report on the optical commissioning of the high power laser beam circulator (LBC) for the high brightness Compton γ-ray source Extreme Light Infrastructure for Nuclear Physics. Tests aiming at demonstrating the optical performances of the LBC have been realized with a low-power pulsed laser-beam system and without electron beam. We show that, with the developed alignment and synchronization methods coming from the LBC design study presented in the Dupraz et al. paper [1], the LBC enhances the laser-beam power available at the interaction point (IP) by a factor in excess of 25. This correspo…
Six 650 MHz high-power couplers will be integrated into the prototype High Beta 650 MHz (HB650) cryomodule for the PIP-II project at Fermilab. The design of the coupler is described, including design optimizations from the previous generation. This paper then describes the coupler life-cycle, including manufacturing, assembly, testing, conditioning, and the lessons learned at each stage.
The front end of Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) linear accelerator uses four 201.25-MHz Drift-Tube Linacs (DTLs) to accelerate the H+ and H- beams to 100 MeV. Three of the 201.25-MHz DTLs are powered by diacrodes and the first DTL is powered by a tetrode. A 20-kW solid-state power amplifier (SSPA) is used to provide ~15 kW drive power to the tetrode. The SSPA is water-cooled and consists of 24 push-pull LDMOS transistors operating at 45% of their power saturation capability, providing ample power headroom and excellent linearity. However, the phase of the SSPA is perturbed at +/-20…
SANAEM Project Prometheus (SPP) has been building a proton beamline at MeV range. Its proton source, two solenoids, and a low energy diagnostic box have been already manufactured and installed. These are going to be followed by a 4-vane RFQ to be powered by two stage PSU. The first stage is a custom-built solid state amplifier providing 6 kW at 352.2 MHz operating frequency. The second stage, employing TH 595 tetrodes from Thales, will amplify this input to 160 kW in a short pulsed mode. The power transfer to the RFQ will be achieved by the means of a number of WR2300 full and half height wave…
The Low Energy RHIC electron Cooler (LEReC) is currently under commissioning at BNL to improve RHIC luminosity for heavy ion beam energies below 10 GeV/nucleon. The linac of LEReC consists of a DC photoemission gun, one 704 MHz superconducting radio frequency (SRF) booster cavity, and three normal conducting cavities. It is designed to deliver a 1.6 MeV to 2.6 MeV electron beam, with peak-to-peak momentum spread dp/p of less than 7e4. Two of the three normal conducting cavities will be used in LEReC for energy spread correction. A single-cell 704 MHz cavity for energy de-chirping and a three-c…
For NOvA and future experiments requiring high intensity proton beams, Fermilab is in the process of upgrading the existing accelerator complex for increased proton production. One such improvement is to reduce the Main Injector cycle time, by performing slip stacking, previously done in the Main Injector, in the now repurposed Recycler Ring. Recycler slip stacking requires two new RF cavities operating at slightly different frequencies (df = 1260Hz). These are copper, coaxial, quarter wave cavities with R/Q =13 ohms. They operate at a peak gap voltage of 150 kV with 150 kW peak drive power (6…
There are many stages in the LLRF and RF system development process for any new accelerator that can take advantage of hardware emulation of the high-power RF system and RF cavities. LLRF development, bench testing, control system development and testing of installed systems must happen well before SRF cavities are available for test. The PIP-II Linac has three frequencies of SRF cavities, 162.5 MHz, 325 MHz and 650 MHz and a simple analog emulator design has been chosen that can meet the cavity bandwidth requirements, provide tuning errors to emulate Lorentz force detuning and microphonics fo…
CEPC will use 650 MHz cavities for the collider. Each collider cryomodule contains six 650 MHz 2-cell cavities, which is totally new. Therefore, new helium vessel and tuner are designed for the 650 MHz 2-cell cavity. Also, a test cryomodule, which consists of two 650 MHz 2-cell cavities, has begun as the first step to the full scale cryomodule. This paper mainly focuses on the structure design of Helium vessel and tuner for the 2-cell cavity.
The PIP-II linac will include thirty-six beta=0.61 and twenty-four beta=0.92 650 MHz 5 cell elliptical SRF cavities. Each cavity will be equipped with a tuning system consisting of a double lever slow tuner for coarse frequency tuning and a piezoelectric actuator for fine frequency tuning. The same tuner will be used for both the beta=0.61 and beta=0.92 cavities. Results of testing the cavity-tuner system for the beta=0.61 will be presented for the first time.
A 1-5 MeV proton beamline is being built by the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority in collaboration with a number of graduate students from different universities. The primary goal of the project, is to acquire the design ability and manufacturing capability of all the components locally. SPP will be an accelerator and beam diagnostics test facility and it will also serve the detector development community with its low beam current. This paper discusses the design and construction of the RF power supply and the RF transmission line components such as its waveguide converters and its circulator. A…

One such improvement is to reduce the Main Injector cycle time, by performing slip stacking, previously done in the Main Injector, in the now repurposed Recycler Ring. Recycler slip stacking requires new tuneable RF cavities, discussed separately in these proceedings. These are quarter wave cavities resonant at 52.809 MHz with a 10 kHz tuning range. The 10 kHz range is achieved by use of a tuner which has an electrical …
The design and production studies of the proton beamline of SPP, which aims to acquire know-how on proton accelerator technology thru development of man power and serves as particle accelerator technologies test bench, continue at TAEK-SANAEM as a multi-phase project. For the first phase, 20 keV protons will be accelerated to 1.3 MeV by a single piece RFQ. Currently, the beam current and stability tests are ongoing for the Inductively Coupled Plasma ion source. The measured magnetic field maps of the Low Energy Beam Transport solenoids are being used for matching various beam configurations of…
The Korea Multipurpose Accelerator Complex (KOMAC) has been developing a 300-kV test stand for a 1-MV electrostatic accelerator ion source. The ion source and accelerating tube will be installed in a high-pressure vessel. The ion source in the high-pressure vessel is required to have a high reliability. The test stand has been proposed and developed to confirm the stable operating conditions of the ion source. The ion source will be tested at the test stand to verify the long-time operating conditions. The test stand comprises a 300-kV high-voltage terminal, a battery for the ion-source power,…
One of the goals of the PXIE program at Fermilab is to demonstrate the capability to form an arbitrary bunch pattern from an initially CW 162.5 MHz H- bunch train coming out of an RFQ. The bunch-by-bunch selection will take place in the 2.1 MeV Medium Energy Beam Transport (MEBT) by directing the undesired bunches onto an absorber that needs to withstand a beam power of up to 21 kW, focused onto a spot with a ~2 mm rms radius. Two prototypes of the absorber were manufactured from molybdenum alloy TZM and tested with a 28 keV DC electron beam up to the peak surface power density required for PX…
