We present a numerical and theoretical study of the zero-dispersion limit of the focusing Zakharov-Shabat hierarchy, which includes NLS and mKdV flows as its second and third members. All the odd flows in the hierachy are shown to preserve real-valued data. We establish the zero-dispersion limit of all the nontrivial conserved densities and associated fluxes for these odd flows for a large class of real-valued initial data which includes all ``single hump'' initial data. In particular, it is done for the ``focusing'' mKdV flow. The method is based on the Lax-Levermore KdV strategy, but here it is carried out in the context of a nonselfadjoint spectral problem. We find that after an algebraic transformation the limiting dynamics of the mKdV equation is identical to that of the KdV equation.
In this paper, we continue the study of the Davey-Stewartson system which is one of the most important$(2+1)$ dimensional integrable models. As we showed in the previous paper, the dDS (dispersionless Davey-Stewartson) system arises from Hamiltonian vector fields Lax pair. A new hierarchy of compatible PDEs defining infinitely many symmetries, which is associated with the dDS system, is defined in this paper. We show that this hierarchy arises from the commutation condition of a particular series of one-parameter Hamiltonian vector fields.
We propose a new method for finding discrete eigenvalues for the direct Zakharov-Shabat problem, based on moving in the complex plane along the argument jumps of the function $a(ζ)$, the localization of which does not require great accuracy. It allows to find all discrete eigenvalues taking into account their multiplicity faster than matrix methods and contour integrals. The method shows significant advantage over other methods when calculating a large discrete spectrum, both in speed and accuracy.
As Fredholm determinants are more and more frequent in the context of stochastic integrability, we unveil the existence of a common framework in many integrable systems where they appear. This consists in a quasi-universal hierarchy of equations, partly unifying an integro-differential generalization of the Painlevé II hierarchy, the finite-time solutions of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation, multi-critical fermions at finite temperature and a notable solution to the Zakharov-Shabat system associated to the largest real eigenvalue in the real Ginibre ensemble. As a byproduct, we obtain the expl…
We study the integrability of the general two-dimensional Zakharov-Shabat systems, which appear in application of the inverse scattering transform (IST) to an important class of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) called integrable systems, in the meaning of differential Galois theory, i.e., their solvability by quadrature. It becomes a key for obtaining analytical solutions to the PDEs by using the IST. For a wide class of potentials, we prove that they are integrable in that meaning if and only if the potentials are reflectionless. It is well known that for such potentials partic…
We review the integration of the KP hierarchy in several non-standard contexts. Specifically, we consider KP in the following associative differential algebras: an algebra equipped with a nilpotent derivation; an algebra of functions equipped with a derivation that generalizes the gradient operator; an algebra of quaternion-valued functions; a differential Lie algebra; an algebra of polynomials equipped with the Pincherle differential; a Moyal algebra. In all these cases we can formulate and solve the Cauchy problem of the KP hierarchy. Also, in each of these cases we derive different Zakharov…
We consider right and left formulations of the inverse scattering problem for the Zakharov-Shabat system and the corresponding integral Gelfand-Levitan-Marchenko equations. Both formulations are helpful for numerical solving of the inverse scattering problem, which we perform using the previously developed Toeplitz Inner Bordering (TIB) algorithm. First, we establish general relations between the right and left scattering coefficients. Here, along with the known results, we introduce a relation between the left and right norming coefficients for the N-soliton solution. Then we propose an auxil…
We solve the large deviations of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation in one dimension at short time by introducing an approach which combines field theoretical, probabilistic and integrable techniques. We expand the program of the weak noise theory, which maps the large deviations onto a non-linear hydrodynamic problem, and unveil its complete solvability through a connection to the integrability of the Zakharov-Shabat system. Exact solutions, depending on the initial condition of the KPZ equation, are obtained using the inverse scattering method and a Fredholm determinant framework recentl…
Let $λ_{max}$ be a shifted maximal real eigenvalue of a random $N\times N$ matrix with independent $N(0,1)$ entries (the `real Ginibre matrix') in the $N\to\infty$ limit. It was shown by Poplavskyi, Tribe, Zaboronski \cite{PZT} that the limiting distribution of the maximal real eigenvalue has $s\to-\infty$ asymptotics $$\mathbb{P} [ λ_{max} < s ] = {\rm e}^{\frac{1}{2\sqrt{2π}} ζ(\frac32)s + \mathcal{O}(1)},$$ where $ζ$ is the Riemann zeta-function. This limiting distribution was expressed by Baik, Bothner \cite{BB18} in terms of the solution $q(x)$ of a certain Zakharov-Shabat inverse scatter…
The real Ginibre ensemble consists of $n\times n$ real matrices ${\bf X}$ whose entries are i.i.d. standard normal random variables. In sharp contrast to the complex and quaternion Ginibre ensemble, real eigenvalues in the real Ginibre ensemble attain positive likelihood. In turn, the spectral radius $R_n=\max_{1\leq j\leq n}|z_j({\bf X})|$ of the eigenvalues $z_j({\bf X})\in\mathbb{C}$ of a real Ginibre matrix ${\bf X}$ follows a different limiting law (as $n\rightarrow\infty$) for $z_j({\bf X})\in\mathbb{R}$ than for $z_j({\bf X})\in\mathbb{C}\setminus\mathbb{R}$. Building on previous work b…
This paper is a continuation of our previous work in which we studied a sl(3) Zakharov-Shabat type auxiliary linear problem with reductions of Mikhailov type and the integrable hierarchy of nonlinear evolution equations associated with it. Now, we shall demonstrate how one can construct special solutions over constant background through Zakharov-Shabat's dressing technique. That approach will be illustrated on the example of a generalized Heisenberg ferromagnet equation related to the linear problem for sl(3). In doing this, we shall discuss the difference between the Hermitian and pseudo-Herm…
We present a recursion operator and an infinite hierarchy of nonlocal commuting symmetries for the modified Martinez Alonso-Shabat equation $u_y u_{xz} + αu_x u_{ty} - (u_z + αu_t)u_{xy} = 0$.
We derive the $2$d Zakharov-Mikhailov action from $4$d Chern-Simons theory. This $2$d action is known to produce as equations of motion the flatness condition of a large class of Lax connections of Zakharov-Shabat type, which includes an ultralocal variant of the principal chiral model as a special case. At the $2$d level, we determine for the first time the covariant Poisson bracket $r$-matrix structure of the Zakharov-Shabat Lax connection, which is of rational type. The flatness condition is then derived as a covariant Hamilton equation. We obtain a remarkable formula for the covariant Hami…
We consider the 4D Mart\'ınez Alonso-Shabat equation $u_{ty} = u_z u_{xy} - u_y u_{xz}$ (also referred to as the universal hierarchy equation) and using its known Lax pair construct two infinite-dimensional differential coverings over $\mathcal{E}$. In these coverings, we give a complete description of the Lie algebras of nonlocal symmetries. In particular, our results generalize the ones obtained in [O.I.Morozov, A.Sergyeyev, The four-dimensional Mart\'ınez Alonso-shabat equation: reductions and nonlocal symmetries. J. of Geom. and Phys. 85 (2014), 40--45 (arXiv:1401.7942v2)] and contain the …
