The complex of "stable forms" on supermanifolds is studied. Stable forms on $M$ are represented by certain Lagrangians of "copaths" (formal systems of equations, which may or may not specify actual surfaces) on $M\times\mathbb R^D$. Changes of $D$ give rise to stability isomorphisms. The Cartan--de Rham complex made of stable forms extends both in positive and negative degree and its positive half is isomorphic to the complex of forms defined as Lagrangians of paths. Considering the negative half is necessary, in particular, for homotopy invariance.
We introduce analogs of exterior multiplication by covectors and of contraction with vectors. We find (anti)commutation relations for them. An analog of Cartan's homotopy identity is proved. Before stabilization it contains some "stability operator" $σ$.
The concept of $\Zn$-supermanifold has been recently proposed as a natural generalization of classical ($\Zs$-graded) supergeometry, allowing for more complicated commutativity constraints. Here we continue the study of $\Zn$-supergeometry by developing the foundations of differential calculus on $\Zn$-supermanifolds.
An intrinsic description of the Hamilton-Cartan formalism for first-order Berezinian variational problems determined by a submersion of supermanifolds is given. This is achieved by studying the associated higher-order graded variational problem through the Poincaré-Cartan form. Noether theorem and examples from superfield theory and supermechanics are also discussed.
The aim of this paper is to present a short introduction to supergeometry on pure odd supermanifolds. (Pseudo)differential forms, Cartan calculus (DeRham differential, Lie derivative, "inner" product), metric, inner product, Killing's vector fields, Hodge star operator, integral forms, co-differential and connection on odd Riemannian supermanifolds are introduced. The electrodynamics and Einstein relativity with anti-commuting variables only are formulated modifying the geometry beyond classical (even, bosonic) theories appropriately. Extension of these ideas to general supermanifolds is strai…
We give an explicit description, in terms of bracket, anchor, and pairing, of the standard cochain complex associated to a Courant algebroid. In this formulation, the differential satisfies a formula that is formally identical to the Cartan formula for the de Rham differential. This perspective allows us to develop the theory of Courant algebroid connections in a way that mirrors the classical theory of connections. Using a special class of connections, we construct secondary characteristic classes associated to any Courant algebroid.
To give a Cartan calculus on the extended quantum 3d space, the noncommutative differential calculus on the extended quantum 3d space is extended by introducing inner derivations and Lie derivatives.
We examine the N-Koszul calculus for the N-symmetric algebras. The case N=2 corresponds to the Elie Cartan calculus. We conjecture that, as in the case N=2, the N-Cartan calculus extends to manifolds when N>2, which would provide a new type of noncommutative differential geometry.

In \cite{Covolo:2016}, \cite{Covolo:2012} and \cite{Poncin:2016}, we introduced the category of colored supermanifolds ($\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-super\-ma\-ni\-folds or just $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-manifolds ($\mathbb{Z}_2^n=\mathbb{Z}_2\times\ldots\times\mathbb{Z}_2$ ($n$ times))), explicitly described the corresponding $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-Berezinian and gave first insights into $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-integration theory. The present paper contains a detailed account of parts of the $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-differential calculus and of the $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-variants of the trilogy of local theorems, which consists of the inve…
In this paper, we analyse the question of existence of a natural and projectively equivariant symbol calculus, using the theory of projective Cartan connections. We establish a close relationship between the existence of such a natural symbol calculus and the existence of an \sl(m+1,\R)-equivariant calculus over \R^{m} in the sense of [15,1]. Moreover we show that the formulae that hold in the non-critical situations over \R^{m} for the \sl(m+1,\R)-equivariant calculus can be directly generalized to an arbitrary manifold by simply replacing the partial derivatives by invariant differentiations…
We present a reformulation of the inverse problem of the calculus of variations for time dependent systems of second order ordinary differential equations using the Frölicher-Nijenhuis theory on the first jet bundle, $J^1π$. We prove that a system of time dependent SODE, identified with a semispray $S$, is Lagrangian if and only if a special class, $Λ^1_S(J^1π)$, of semi-basic 1-forms is not empty. We provide global Helmholtz conditions to characterize the class $Λ^1_S(J^1π)$ of semi-basic 1-forms. Each such class contains the Poincaré-Cartan 1-form of some Lagrangian function. We prove that i…
We provide the Cartan calculus for bicovariant differential forms on bicrossproduct quantum groups $k(M)\lrbicross kG$ associated to finite group factorizations $X=GM$ and a field $k$. The irreducible calculi are associated to certain conjugacy classes in $X$ and representations of isotropy groups. We find the full exterior algebras and show that they are inner by a bi-invariant 1-form $θ$ which is a generator in the noncommutative de Rham cohomology $H^1$. The special cases where one subgroup is normal are analysed. As an application, we study the noncommutative cohomology on the quantum codo…
String and M theories seem to require generalizations of usual notions of differential geometry. Such generalizations usually involve extending the tangent bundle to larger vector bundles equipped with various algebroid structures. The most general geometric scheme is not well understood yet, and a unifying framework for such algebroid structures is needed. Our aim in this paper is to propose such a general framework. Our strategy is to follow the hierarchy of defining axioms for a Courant algebroid: almost-Courant - metric - pre-Courant - Courant. In particular, we focus on the symmetric part…
In this paper we review the recently proposed path-integral counterpart of the Koopman-von Neumann operatorial approach to classical Hamiltonian mechanics. We identify in particular the geometrical variables entering this formulation and show that they are essentially a basis of the cotangent bundle to the tangent bundle to phase-space. In this space we introduce an extended Poisson brackets structure which allows us to re-do all the usual Cartan calculus on symplectic manifolds via these brackets. We also briefly sketch how the Schouten-Nijenhuis, the Frölicher- Nijenhuis and the Nijenhuis-Ri…
An affine Cartan calculus is developed. The concepts of special affine bundles and special affine duality are introduced. The canonical isomorphisms, fundamental for Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of the dynamics in the affine setting are proved.
We discuss in this paper the conformal geometry of bi-invariant metrics on compact semisimple Lie groups. For this purpose we develop a conformal Cartan calculus adapted to this problem. In particular, we derive an explicit formula for the holonomy algebra of the normal conformal Cartan connection of a bi-invariant metric. As an example, we apply this calculus to the group $\SO(4)$. Its conformal holonomy group is calculated to be $\SO(7)$.
The Carathéodory form of the calculus of variations belongs to the class of Lepage equivalents of first-order Lagrangians in field theory. Here, this equivalent is generalized for second- and higher-order Lagrangians by means of intrisic geometric operations applied to the well-known Poincaré--Cartan form and principal component of Lepage forms, respectively. For second-order theory, our definition coincides with the previous result obtained by Crampin and Saunders in a different way. The Carathéodory equivalent of the Hilbert Lagrangian in general relativity is discussed.
We use methods from exterior differential systems (EDS) to develop a geometric theory of scalar, first-order Lagrangian functionals and their associated Euler-Lagrange PDEs, subject to contact transformations. The first chapter contains an introduction of the classical Poincare-Cartan form in the context of EDS, followed by proofs of classical results, including a solution to the relevant inverse problem, Noether's theorem on symmetries and conservation laws, and several aspects of minimal hypersurfaces. In the second chapter, the equivalence problem for Poincare-Cartan forms is solved, giving…
We introduce and study $μ$K-stability of polarized schemes with respect to general test configurations as an algebro-geometric aspect of the existence of $μ$-cscK metrics, which is introduced in the paper arXiv:1902.00664 as a framework unifying the frameworks of Kähler-Ricci solitons and cscK metrics. This article consists of two ingredients. On one hand, we develop a foundational framework concerning `derivative of relative equivariant intersection', which we call equivariant calculus. A core claim in equivariant calculus is a convergence result for some infinite series in equivariant cohomo…
A second-order generalization of the fundamental Lepage form of geometric calculus of variations over fibered manifolds with 2-dimensional base is described by means of insisting on (i) equivalence relation "Lepage differential 2-form is closed if and only if the associated Lagrangian is trivial" and, (ii) the principal component of Lepage form, extending the well-known Poincaré-Cartan form, preserves order prescribed by a given Lagrangian. This approach completes several attempts of finding a Lepage equivalent of a second-order Lagrangian possessing condition (i), which is well-known for firs…
