Let G be an algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic zero. We give a simple proof of the following result: if H^1(L, G) = {1} for some finitely generated field extension L/k of transcendence degree \ge 3 then H^1(K, G) = {1} for every field extension K/k.

Jordan property for algebraic groups and automorphism groups of projective varieties in arbitrary characteristic

We show an analogue of Jordan's theorem for algebraic groups defined over a field $\mathbb k$ of arbitrary characteristic. As a consequence, a Jordan-type property holds for the automorphism group of any projective variety over $\mathbb k$.

Special cubic fourfolds, K3 surfaces and the Franchetta property

O'Grady conjectured that the Chow group of 0-cycles of the generic fiber of the universal family over the moduli space of polarized K3 surfaces of genus g is cyclic. This so-called generalized Franchetta conjecture has been solved only for low genera where there is a Mukai model (precisely, when g<11 and g=12, 13, 16, 18, 20), by the work of Pavic--Shen--Yin. Motivated by the Bloch-Beilinson conjectures, we formulate a certain covariant weak Lefschetz property for Chow groups. We prove this property in some special cases, using Kimura's nilpotence theorem.

Jordan property for groups of birational selfmaps

Jordan property for groups of bimeromorphic self-maps of complex manifolds with large Kodaira dimension

We prove that the image of the pluricanonical representation of a group of bimeromorphic automorphisms of a complex manifold has bounded finite subgroups. As a consequence, we show that the group of bimeromorphic automorphisms of an $n$-dimensional complex manifold whose Kodaira dimension is at least $n-2$, satisfies the Jordan property.
