On rational homotopy of four-manifolds

We give explicit formulas for the ranks of the third and fourth homotopy groups of all oriented closed simply-connected four manifolds in terms of their second Betti numbers. We also show that the rational homotopy type of these manifolds is classified by their rank and signature.

Rational homotopy theory and nonnegative curvature

In this note, we answer positively a question by Belegradek and Kapovitch about the relation between rational homotopy theory and a problem in Riemannian geometry which asks that total spaces of which vector bundles over compact nonnegative curved manifolds admit (complete) metrics with nonnegative curvature.

Obstructions to nonnegative curvature and rational homotopy theory

We establish a link between rational homotopy theory and the problem which vector bundles admit complete Riemannian metric of nonnegative sectional curvature. As an application, we show for a large class of simply-connected nonnegatively curved manifolds that, if C lies in the class and T is a torus of positive dimension, then "most" vector bundles over the product of C and T admit no complete nonnegatively curved metric.

Homology versus homotopy in fibrations and in limits

Motivated by prominent problems like the Hilali conjecture Yamaguchi--Yokura recently proposed certain estimates on the relations of the dimensions of rational homotopy and rational cohomology groups of fibre, base and total spaces in a fibration of rationally elliptic spaces. Directional isoperimetric inequalities and rational homotopy invariants

We estimate the second order linking invariants of Lipschitz maps from an n-dimensional ellipse. The estimate uses a new directionally-dependent version of the isoperimetric inequality for cycles inside the ellipse. Using this work, we prove new lower bounds for the k-dilation of maps from one ellipse to another.

Isoperimetric inequalities and rational homotopy invariants

We estimate the linear isoperimetric constants of an n-dimensional ellipse. Using these estimates and a technique of Gromov, we estimate the Hopf and linking invariants of Lipschitz maps from ellipses to round spheres. Using these estimates, we give a lower bound for the k-dilation of degree non-zero maps between ellipses.

On the rational homotopy type of a moduli space of vector bundles over a curve

We study the rational homotopy of the moduli space ${\mathcal N}_X$ of stable vector bundles of rank two and fixed determinant of odd degree over a compact connected Riemann surface $X$ of genus $g\geq 2$. The symplectic group $Aut(H_1(X,{\mathbb Z}))=Sp(2g,{\mathbb Z})$ has a natural action on the rational homotopy groups $π_n({\mathcal N}_X) \otimes {\mathbb Q}$. We prove that this action extends to an action of $Sp(2g,{\mathbb C})$ on $π_n({\mathcal N}_X) \otimes {\mathbb C}$. The topology of the space of symplectic balls in rational 4-manifolds

We study in this paper the rational homotopy type of the space of symplectic embeddings of the standard ball $B^4(c) \subset \R^4$ into 4-dimensional rational symplectic manifolds. We compute the rational homotopy groups of that space when the 4-manifold has the form $M_λ= (S^2 \times S^2, μω_0 \oplus ω_0)$ where $ω_0$ is the area form on the sphere with total area 1 and $μ$ belongs to the interval $[1,2]$.
