Let A be an algebra over a field k, and denote by D^b(Mod A) the bounded derived category of left A-modules. The derived Picard group DPic_k(A) is the group of triangle auto-equivalences of D^b(Mod A) induced by tilting complexes.
We study the group DPic_k(A) when A = k Δis the path algebra of a finite quiver Δ. We obtain general results on the structure of DPic_k(A), as well as explicit calculations for many cases, including all finite and tame representation types.
Our method is to construct a representation of DPic_k(A) on a certain infinite quiver. This representation is faithful whenΔis a tree, and then DPic_k(A) is discrete. Otherwise a connected linear algebraic group can occur as a factor of DPic_k(A).
When A is hereditary, DPic_k(A) coincides with the full group of k-linear triangle auto-equivalences of D^b(Mod} A). Hence we can calculate the group of such auto-equivalences for any triangulated category D equivalent to D^b(Mod A). These include the derived categories of certain noncommutative spaces introduced by Kontsevich-Rosenberg.
We show that the main results of Happel-Rickard-Schofield (1988) and Happel-Reiten-Smalo (1996) on piecewise hereditary algebras are coherent with the notion of group action on an algebra. Then, we take advantage of this compatibility and show that if G is a finite group acting on a piecewise hereditary algebra A over an algebraically closed field whose characteristic does not divide the order of G, then the resulting skew group algebra A[G] is also piecewise hereditary.
Ringel's right-strongly quasi-hereditary algebras are a distinguished class of quasi-hereditary algebras of Cline-Parshall-Scott. We give characterizations of these algebras in terms of heredity chains and right rejective subcategories. We prove that any artin algebra of global dimension at most two is right-strongly quasi-hereditary. Moreover we show that the Auslander algebra of a representation-finite algebra $A$ is strongly quasi-hereditary if and only if $A$ is a Nakayama algebra.
Let $A$ be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbf{k}$. If $A$ is quasi-hereditary and the projective dimensions of all standard modules are at most one, then $A$ is called left strongly quasi-hereditary. In this paper, we construct a special heredity chain for left strongly quasi-hereditary algebras. Moreover, we show the quotient algebra by an ideal which appears in a special heredity chain of left strongly quasi-hereditary algebra is also left strongly quasi-hereditary algebra.
We develop a structure theory for two classes of infinite dimensional modules over tame hereditary algebras: the Baer modules, and the Mittag-Leffler ones.
Following the work of Beilinson, Bernstein and Deligne, we study restriction and induction of t-structures in triangulated categories with respect to recollements. For derived categories of piecewise hereditary algebras we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a bounded t-structure to be induced from a recollement by derived categories of algebras. As a corollary we prove that for hereditary algebras of finite representation type all bounded t-structures can be obtained in this way.
In this paper we consider how the \nabla-, Δ- and global dimensions of a quasi-hereditary algebra are interrelated. We first consider quasi-hereditary algebras with simple preserving duality and such that if μ< λthen \nabla fd(L(μ)) < \nabla fd(L(λ)) where μ, λare in the poset and L(μ), L(λ) are the corresponding simples. We show that in this case the global dimension of the algebra is twice its \nabla-filtration dimension. We then consider more general quasi-hereditary algebras and look at how these dimensions are affected by the Ringel dual and by two forms of truncation. We restrict again t…
We use the characteristic polynomial of the Coxeter matrix of an algebra to complete the combinatorial classification of piecewise hereditary algebras which Happel gave in terms of the trace of the Coxeter matrix. We also give a cohomological interpretation of the coefficients (other than the trace) of the characteristic polynomial of the Coxeter matrix of any finite dimensional algebra with finite global dimension.
We classify $n$-hereditary monomial algebras in three natural contexts: First, we give a classification of the $n$-hereditary truncated path algebras. We show that they are exactly the $n$-representation-finite Nakayama algebras classified by Vaso. Next, we classify partially the $n$-hereditary quadratic monomial algebras. In the case $n=2$, we prove that there are only two examples, provided that the preprojective algebra is a planar quiver with potential. The first one is a Nakayama algebra and the second one is obtained by mutating $\mathbb A_3\otimes_k \mathbb A_3$, where $\mathbb A_3$ is …
A Jordan Hölder theorem is established for derived module categories of piecewise hereditary algebras. The resulting composition series of derived categories are shown to be independent of the choice of bounded or unbounded derived module categories, and also of the choice of finitely generated or arbitrary modules.
We show that if H is a hereditary finite dimensional algebra, M is a finitely generated H-module and B is a semisimple subalgebra of the endomorphism algebra of M, then the representation dimension of the corresponding triangular matrix algebra is less or equal to 3 whenever one of the following conditions hold: i) H is of finite representation type; ii) H is tame and M is a direct sum of regular and preprojective modules; iii) M has no self-extensions
Let k be a field, let A a finite-dimensional hereditary k-algebra. We consider the category of all finite-dimensional A-modules. We are going to characterize the representation type of A (tame or wild) in terms of the possible subcategories of all M-static modules, where M is an indecomposable A-module.
The aim of this paper is to define and study some quasi-hereditary covers for higher zigzag algebras. We will show how these algebras satisfy three different Koszul properties: they are Koszul in the classical sense, standard Koszul and Koszul with respect to the standard module $Δ$, according with the definition given in \cite{Madsen1}. This last property gives rise to a well defined duality and the $Δ$-Koszul dual will be computed as the path algebra of a quiver with relations.
Let $Λ$ be a finite dimensional algebra and $G$ be a finite group whose elements act on $Λ$ as algebra automorphisms. Under the assumption that $Λ$ has a complete set $E$ of primitive orthogonal idempotents, closed under the action of a Sylow $p$-subgroup $S \leqslant G$. If the action of $S$ on $E$ is free, we show that the skew group algebra $ΛG$ and $Λ$ have the same finitistic dimension, and have the same strong global dimension if the fixed algebra $Λ^S$ is a direct summand of the $Λ^S$-bimodule $Λ$. Using a homological characterization of piecewise hereditary algebras proved by Happel an…
We give bounds on the global dimension of a finite length, piecewise hereditary category in terms of quantitative connectivity properties of its graph of indecomposables. We use this to show that the global dimension of a finite dimensional, piecewise hereditary algebra A cannot exceed 3 if A is an incidence algebra of a finite poset or more generally, a sincere algebra. This bound is tight.
We call a triangulated category \emph{hereditary} provided that it is equivalent to the bounded derived category of a hereditary abelian category, where the equivalence is required to commute with the translation functors. If the triangulated category is algebraical, we may replace the equivalence by a triangle equivalence. We give two intrinsic characterizations of hereditary triangulated categories using a certain full subcategory and the non-existence of certain paths. We apply them to piecewise hereditary algebras.
Up to Morita equivalence, every quasi-hereditary algebra is the dual algebra of a directed bocs or coring. From the bocs, an exact Borel subalgebra is obtained. In this paper a characterisation of exact Borel subalgebras arising in this way is given.
We describe necessary and sufficient conditions for the hereditarity of the category algebra of an infinite EI category satisfying certain combinatorial assumptions. More generally, we discuss conditions such that the left global dimension of a category algebra equals the maximal left global dimension of the endomorphism algebras of its objects, and classify its projective modules in this case. As applications, we completely classify transporter categories, orbit categories, and Quillen categories with left hereditary category algebras over a field.
For any Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra A, we consider a version of the universal Hopf algebra aut(A) coacting on A, introduced by Manin. To study the representations (i.e. finite dimensional comodules) of this Hopf algebra, we use the Tannaka-Krein formalism. Specifically, we construct an explicit combinatorial rigid monoidal category U, equipped with a functor M to finite dimensional vector spaces such that aut(A)= coend_U(M). Using this pair (U,M) we show that aut(A) is quasi-hereditary as a coalgebra and in addition is derived equivalent to the representation category of U.
Tilting bundles $\mathcal{T}$ on a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ have been intensively studied by representation theorists since they give rise to a derived equivalence between $\mathbb{X}$ and the finite dimensional algebra End $\mathcal{T}$. A classical result states that if End $\mathcal{T}$ is hereditary, then $\mathbb{X}$ is Fano and conversely, for every Fano weighted projective line, there exists a tilting bundle $\mathcal{T}$ with End $\mathcal{T}$ hereditary. In this paper, we examine the question of when a weighted projective surface has a tilting bundle whose endomorphism ri…
We determine the possible functions that can occur, up to asymptotic equivalence, as growth functions of semigroups, hereditary languages, and algebras.
We discuss tilting modules of affine quasi-hereditary algebras. We present an existence theorem of indecomposable tilting modules when the algebra has a large center and use it to deduce a criterion for an exact functor between two affine highest weight categories to give an equivalence. As an application, we prove that the Arakawa-Suzuki functor [Arakawa-Suzuki, J. of Alg. 209 (1998)] gives a fully faithful embedding of a block of the deformed BGG category of $\mathfrak{gl}_{m}$ into the module category of a suitable completion of degenerate affine Hecke algebra of $GL_{n}$.
In this paper, we consider the endomorphism algebras of infinitely generated tilting modules of the form $R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R$ over tame hereditary $k$-algebras $R$ with $k$ an arbitrary field, where $R_{\mathcal{U}}$ is the universal localization of $R$ at an arbitrary set $\mathcal{U}$ of simple regular $R$-modules, and show that the derived module category of $\End_R(R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R)$ is a recollement of the derived module category $\D{R}$ of $R$ and the derived module category $\D{{\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U}}}$ of the adèle ring ${\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U…
We study IE-closed subcategories of a module category, subcategories which are closed under taking Images and Extensions. We investigate the relation between IE-closed subcategories and torsion pairs, and characterize $τ$-tilting finite algebras using IE-closed subcategories. For the hereditary case, we show that IE-closed subcategories can be classified by twin rigid modules, pairs of rigid modules satisfying some homological conditions. Moreover, we introduce mutation of twin rigid modules analogously to tilting modules, which gives a way to calculate all twin rigid modules for the represent…
In our proceeding paper a generating set of the derived Picard group of a selfinjective Nakayama algebra was constructed combining some previous results for Brauer tree algebras and the technique of orbit categories developed there. In this paper we finish the computation of the derived Picard group of a selfinjective Nakayama algebra.
We give a simple proof, using Auslander-Reiten theory, that the preprojective algebra of a basic hereditary algebra of finite representation type is Frobenius. We then describe its Nakayama automorphism, which is induced by the Nakayama functor on the module category of our hereditary algebra.
Tilting theory in cluster categories of hereditary algebras has been developed in [BMRRT] and [BMR]. These results are generalized to cluster categories of hereditary abelian categories. Furthermore, for any tilting object $T$ in a hereditary abelian category $\mathcal{H}$, we verify that the tilting functor Hom$_\mathcal{H}(T,-)$ induces a triangle equivalence from the cluster category $\mathcal{C(H)}$ to the cluster category $\mathcal{C}(A)$, where $A$ is the quasi-tilted algebra End$_{\mathcal{H}}T.$ Under the condition that one of derived categories of hereditary abelian categories $\mathc…
In this paper, we show that the derived Picard group of a homologically smooth Koszul connected cochain DG algebra is isomorphic to the opposite group of the derived Picard group of its finite dimensional local Ext-algebra. As applications, we compute the derived Picard groups of some important DG algebras such as trivial DG polynomial algebras, trivial DG free algebras and several non-trivial DG down-up algebras and DG free algebras.
Let A be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field K. The derived Picard group DPic(A) is the group of two-sided tilting complexes over A modulo isomorphism. We prove that DPic(A) is a locally algebraic group, and its identity component is Out^0(A). If B is a derived Morita equivalent algebra then DPic(A) is isomorphic to DPic(B) as locally algebraic groups. Our results extend, and our based on, work of Huisgen-Zimmermann, Saorin and Rouquier.
We describe the derived Picard group of an Azumaya algebra A on an affine scheme X in terms of global sections of the constant sheaf of integers on X, the Picard group of X, and the stabilizer of the Brauer class of A under the action of Aut(X). In particular, we find that the derived Picard group of an Azumaya algebra is generally not isomorphic to that of the underlying scheme. In the case of the trivial Azumaya algebra, our result refines Yekutieli's description of the derived Picard group of a commutative algebra. We also get, as a corollary, an alternate proof of a result of Antieau which…
We compare the so-called clock condition to the gradability of certain differential modules over quadratic monomial algebras. For a stably hereditary algebra or a gentle one-cycle algebra, these considerations show that the orbit category of its bounded derived category with respect to a positive power of the shift functor is triangulated if and only if the algebra is piecewise hereditary.
The first Weyl algebra, $A_1 = k \langle x, y\rangle/(xy-yx - 1)$ is naturally $\mathbb{Z}$-graded by letting $\operatorname{deg} x = 1$ and $\operatorname{deg} y = -1$. Sue Sierra studied $\operatorname{gr}- A_1$, category of graded right $A_1$-modules, computing its Picard group and classifying all rings graded equivalent to $A_1$. In this paper, we generalize these results by studying the graded module category of certain generalized Weyl algebras. We show that for a generalized Weyl algebra $A(f)$ with base ring $k[z]$ defined by a quadratic polynomial $f$, the Picard group of $\operatorna…
We introduce the notion of a cellular system in order to deal with quasi-hereditary algebras. We shall prove that a necessary and sufficient condition for an algebra to be quasi-hereditary is the existence of a full divisible cellular system. As a further application, we prove that the existence of a full local cellular system is a sufficient condition for a standardly stratified algebra.
Let $A$ be a commutative comodule algebra over a commutative bialgebra $H$. The group of invertible relative Hopf modules maps to the Picard group of $A$, and the kernel is described as a quotient group of the group of invertible grouplike elements of the coring $A\ot H$, or as a Harrison cohomology group. Our methods are based on elementary $K$-theory. The Hilbert 90 Theorem follows as a corollary. The part of the Picard group of the coinvariants that becomes trivial after base extension embeds in the Harrison cohomology group, and the image is contained in a well-defined subgroup $E$. It equ…
Let $(K,\mathcal O,k)$ be a $p$-modular system and assume $k$ is algebraically closed. We show that if $Λ$ is an $\mathcal O$-order in a separable $K$-algebra, then $\textrm{Pic}_{\mathcal O}(Λ)$ carries the structure of an algebraic group over $k$. As an application to the modular representation theory of finite groups, we show that a reduction theorem by Külshammer concerned with Donovan's conjecture remains valid over $\mathcal O$.
We show that if a (not necessarily algebraic) triangulated category T contains an admissible hereditary abelian subcategory H, then we can lift the inclusion of H into T to a fully faithful triangle functor from the whole of the bounded derived category of H to T. This allows us prove, for example, that a triangulated category T is triangle equivalent to the bounded derived category of an hereditary abelian category if and only if T admits a split, bounded t-structure.
The notion of H-covariant strong Morita equivalence is introduced for *-algebras over C = R(i) with an ordered ring R which are equipped with a *-action of a Hopf *-algebra H. This defines a corresponding H-covariant strong Picard groupoid which encodes the entire Morita theory. Dropping the positivity conditions one obtains H-covariant *-Morita equivalence with its H-covariant *-Picard groupoid. We discuss various groupoid morphisms between the corresponding notions of the Picard groupoids. Moreover, we realize several Morita invariants in this context as arising from actions of the H-covaria…
