The category of unital (unbounded) dg cocommutative coalgebras over a field of characteristic zero is provided with a structure of simplicial closed model category. This generalizes the model structure defined by Quillen in 1969 for 2-reduced coalgebras. In our case, the notion of weak equivalence is structly stronger than that of quasi-isomorphism. A pair of adjoint functors connecting the category of coalgebras with the category of dg Lie algebras, induces an equivalence of the corresponding homotopy categories.
The model category structure allows one to consider dg coalgebras as very general formal stacks. The corresponding Lie algebra is then interpreted as a tangent Lie algebra which defines the formal stack uniquely up to a weak equivalence.
An example of the coalgebra of formal deformaions of a principal $G$-bundle on a scheme $X$ is calculated.
In this sequel of arXiv:1211.5294 and arXiv:1211.5948, we develop an adic formalism for étale cohomology of Artin stacks and prove several desired properties including the base change theorem. In addition, we define perverse t-structures on Artin stacks for general perversity, extending Gabber's work on schemes. Our results generalize results of Laszlo and Olsson on adic formalism and middle perversity. We continue to work in the world of $\infty$-categories in the sense of Lurie, by enhancing all the derived categories, functors, and natural transformations to the level of $\infty$-categories…
A smooth GKM stack is a smooth Deligne-Mumford stack equipped with an action of an algebraic torus $T$, with only finitely many zero-dimensional and one-dimensional orbits. (i) We define the stacky GKM graph of a smooth GKM stack, under the mild assumption that any one-dimensional $T$-orbit closure contains at least one $T$ fixed point. The stacky GKM graph is a decorated graph which contains enough information to reconstruct the $T$-equivariant formal neighborhood of the 1-skeleton (union of zero-dimensional and one-dimensional $T$-orbits) as a formal smooth DM stack equipped with a $T$-actio…
The moduli stack of representations of a quiver, or coherent sheaves on a proper curve, carries two structures on its cohomology: a Hall algebra and braided vertex coalgebra. We show that they are compatible, by developing a formulation of abelian localisation which works in the derived/singular setting. An application of these techniques gives an explicit formula for the cohomological Hall algebra products.
A geometric stack is a quasi-compact and semi-separated algebraic stack. We prove that the quasi-coherent sheaves on the small flat topology, Cartesian presheaves on the underlying category, and comodules over a Hopf algebroid associated to a presentation of a geometric stack are equivalent categories. As a consequence, we show that the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on a geometric stack is a Grothendieck category. We associate, in a 2-functorial way, to a 1-morphism of geometric stacks $f$, an adjunction $(f^*, f_*)$ for the corresponding categories of quasi-coherent sheaves that agrees w…
We generalise recent results of M. Hovey and N. Strickland on comodule categories for Landweber exact algebras using the formalism of algebraic stacks.
We attempt to develop a general algebro-geometric study of the moduli stack of commutative, 1-parameter formal Lie groups. We emphasize the pro-algebraic structure of this stack: it is the inverse limit, over varying n, of moduli stacks of n-buds, and these latter stacks are algebraic. Our main results pertain to aspects of the height stratification relative to fixed prime p on the stacks of buds and formal Lie groups. We conclude with a largely expository account of some foundational material on limits in bicategories.
We define a filtration by open substacks on the non-connective spectral moduli stack of formal oriented groups, which simultaneously encodes and relates the chromatic filtration of spectra and the height stratification of the classical moduli stack of formal groups. Using this open filtration, we express various classical constructions in chromatic homotopy theory, such as chromatic localization, the monochromatic layer, and $K(n)$-localization, in terms of restriction and completion of sheaves in non-connective spectral algebraic geometry.
The central aim of this monograph is to provide decomposition results for quasi-coherent sheaves on the moduli stack of one-dimensional formal groups. These results will be based on the geometry of the stack itself, particularly the height filtration and an analysis of the formal neighborhoods of the geometric points. The main theorems are algebraic chromatic convergence results and fracture square decompositions. There is a major technical hurdle in this story, as the moduli stack of formal groups does not have the finitness properties required of an algebraic stack as usually defined. This i…
We introduce and study the non-connective spectral stack $\mathcal M_\mathrm{FG}^\mathrm{or}$, the moduli stack of oriented formal groups. We realize some results of chromatic homotopy theory in terms of the geometry of this stack. For instance, we show that its descent spectral sequence recovers the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence. For two $\mathbb E_\infty$-forms of periodic complex bordism $\mathrm{MP}$, the Thom spectrum and Snaith construction model, we describe the universal property of the cover $\mathrm{Spec}(\mathrm{MP})\to\mathcal M_\mathrm{FG}^\mathrm{or}$. We show that Quillen's ce…

We exhibit a relationship between motivic homotopy theory and spectral algebraic geometry, based on the motivic $τ$-deformation picture of Gheorghe, Isaksen, Wang, Xu. More precisely, we identify cellular motivic spectra over $\mathbf C$ with ind-coherent sheaves (in a slightly non-standard sense) on a certain spectral stack $τ_{\ge 0}(\mathcal M_\mathrm{FG}^\mathrm{or})$. The latter is the connective cover of the non-connective spectral stack $\mathcal M_\mathrm{FG}^\mathrm{or}$, the moduli stack of oriented formal groups, which we have introduced previously and studied in connection with chr…
In this paper we prove formal glueing along an arbitrary closed substack $Z$ of an arbitrary Artin stack $X$ (locally of finite type over a field $k$), for the stacks of (almost) perfect complexes , and of $G$-bundles on $X$ (for $G$ a smooth affine algebraic $k$-group scheme). By iterating this result, we get a decomposition of these stacks along an arbitrary nonlinear flag of closed substacks in $X$. By taking points over the base field, we deduce from this both a formal glueing, and a flag-related decomposition formula for the corresponding symmetric monoidal derived $\infty$-categories of …
This paper presents a survey on formal moduli problems. It starts with an introduction to pointed formal moduli problems and a sketch of proof of a Theorem (independently proven by Lurie and Pridham) which gives a precise mathematical formulation for Drinfeld's derived deformation theory philosophy, which gives a correspondence between formal moduli problems and differential graded Lie algebras. The second part deals with Lurie's general theory of deformation contexts, which we present in a slightly different way than the original paper, emphasising the (more symmetric) notion of Koszul dualit…
We show that near closed points with linearly reductive stabilizer, Artin stacks are formally locally quotient stacks by the stabilizer. We conjecture that the statement holds etale locally and we provide some evidence for this conjecture. In particular, we prove that if the stabilizer of a point is linearly reductive, the stabilizer acts algebraically on a miniversal deformation space generalizing results of Pinkham and Rim.
We show that the functor of $p$-typical co-Witt vectors on commutative algebras over a perfect field $k$ of characteristic $p$ is defined on, and in fact only depends on, a weaker structure than that of a $k$-algebra. We call this structure a $p$-polar $k$-algebra. By extension, the functors of points for any $p$-adic affine commutative group scheme and for any formal group are defined on, and only depend on, $p$-polar structures. In terms of abelian Hopf algebras, we show that a cofree cocommutative Hopf algebra can be defined on any $p$-polar $k$-algebra $P$, and it agrees with the cofree co…
The "linear dual" of a cocomplete linear category $\mathcal C$ is the category of all cocontinuous linear functors $\mathcal C \to \mathrm{Vect}$. We study the questions of when a cocomplete linear category is reflexive (equivalent to its double dual) or dualizable (the pairing with its dual comes with a corresponding copairing). Our main results are that the category of comodules for a countable-dimensional coassociative coalgebra is always reflexive, but (without any dimension hypothesis) dualizable if and only if it has enough projectives, which rarely happens. Along the way, we prove that …
We give an explicit groupoid presentation of certain stacks of vector bundles on formal neighborhoods of rational curves inside algebraic surfaces. The presentation involves a Möbius type action of an automorphism group on a space of extensions.
In this paper, we prove the dg affinity of formal deformation algebroid stacks over complex smooth algebraic varieties. For that purpose, we introduce the triangulated category of formal deformation modules which are cohomologically complete and whose associated graded module is quasi-coherent.
This paper is the sequel to [PTVV] (IHES Vol. 117, 2013). We develop a general and flexible context for differential calculus in derived geometry, including the de Rham algebra and polyvector fields. We then introduce the formalism of formal derived stacks and prove formal localization and gluing results. These allow us to define shifted Poisson structures on general derived Artin stacks, and prove that the non-degenerate Poisson structures correspond exactly to shifted symplectic forms. Shifted deformation quantization for a derived Artin stack endowed with a shifted Poisson structure is disc…
We look more closely at the higher nonabelian de Rham cohomology of a smooth projective variety or family of varieties that had been defined in some previous papers. We formalize using $n$-stacks the notion of shape underlying this nonabelian cohomology. A generalization of the de Rham construction to any appropriate formal category or family of formal categories, yields various algebraic aspects of Hodge theory for the de Rham shape, such as the Hodge filtration, the Gauss-Manin connection, Griffiths transversality, an extension of the Gauss-Manin connection with regular singularities across …
The notion of a K3 spectrum is introduced in analogy with that of an elliptic spectrum and it is shown that there are "enough" K3 spectra in the sense that for all K3 surfaces X in a suitable moduli stack of K3 surfaces there is a K3 spectrum whose underlying ring is isomorphic to the local ring of the moduli stack in X with respect to the étale topology, and similarly for the ring of formal functions on the formal deformation space.
In this note, we introduce and study the Cartier--Witt stack $\mathrm{WCart}_X$ attached to a $p$-adic formal scheme $X$ as well as some variants. In particular, we reinterpret the notion of prismatic crystals on $X$ and their cohomology in terms of quasicoherent sheaf theory on $\mathrm{WCart}_X$ in favorable situations.
We connect the homotopy type of simplicial moduli spaces of algebraic structures to the cohomology of their deformation complexes. Then we prove that under several assumptions, mapping spaces of algebras over a monad in an appropriate diagram category form affine stacks in the sense of Toen-Vezzosi's homotopical algebraic geometry. This includes simplicial moduli spaces of algebraic structures over a given object (for instance a cochain complex). When these algebraic structures are parametrised by properads, the tangent complexes give the known cohomology theory for such structures and there i…
