This paper develops the theory of a sheaf of normal differential operators to a submanifold Y of a complex manifold X as a generalization of the normal bundle. We show that the global sections of this sheaf play an analogous role for formal deformations of Y to the role played by the normal bundle with respect to first-order deformations.
We study integral representations of holomorphic differentials on the Oort-Sekiguci-Suwa component of deformations of curves with cyclic group actions.
For a smooth Deligne-Mumford stack over $\CC$, we define its associated Kodaira-Spencer differential graded Lie algebra and show that the deformation functor of the stack is isomorphic to the deformation functor of the Kodaira-Spencer algebra if the stack is proper over $\CC$.
In this paper, we consider the generalized isomonodromic deformations of rank two irregular connections on the Riemann sphere. We introduce Darboux coordinates on the parameter space of a family of rank two irregular connections by apparent singularities. By the Darboux coordinates, we describe the generalized isomonodromic deformations as Hamiltonian systems.
We construct a differential graded Lie algebra $\fg$ controlling the Poisson deformations of an affine Poisson variety. We analyse $\fg$ in the case of affine Gorenstein toric Poisson varieties. Moreover, explicit description of the second and third Hochschild cohomology groups is given for three-dimensional affine Gorenstein toric varieties.
In this paper, we study the moduli spaces of parabolic connections with a quadratic differential. We endow these moduli spaces with symplectic structures by using the fundamental 2-forms on the moduli spaces of parabolic connections (which are phase spaces of isomonodromic deformation systems). Moreover, we see that the moduli spaces of parabolic connections with a quadratic differential are equipped with structures of twisted cotangent bundles.
We describe the sheaf T^1(X) of first order deformations of a reduced scheme with normal crossing singularities. In particular, we obtain a formula for T^1(X) in a suitable log resolution of X.
Working in characteristic two, I classify nonsmooth Enriques surfaces with normal crossing singularities. Using Kato's theory of logarithmic structures, I show that such surfaces are smoothable and lift to characteristic zero, provided they are d-semistable.
Given a finite p-group G acting on a smooth projective curve X over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p, the dimension of the tangent space of the associated equivariant deformation functor is equal to the dimension of the space of coinvariants of G acting on the space V of global holomorphic quadratic differentials on X. We apply known results about the Galois module structure of Riemann-Roch spaces to compute this dimension when G is cyclic or when the action of G on X is weakly ramified. Moreover we determine certain subrepresentations of V, called p-rank representations.
We construct the deformation functor associated to a couple of morphisms of differential graded Lie algebras, and use it to study the infinitesimal deformations of a holomorphic map of compact complex manifolds. In particular, in the case of Kähler manifolds we describe a generalizzation of the semiregularity map.
Let $k$ be a perfect field of positive characteristic and $Z$ an effective Cartier divisor in the projective line over $k$ with complement $U$. In this note, we establish some results about the formal deformation theory of overconvergent isocrystals on $U$ with fixed "local monodromy" along $Z$. En route, we show that a Hochschild cochain complex governs deformations of a module over an arbitrary associative algebra. We also relate this Hochschild cochain complex to a de Rham complex in order to understand the deformation theory of a differential module over a differential ring.
We present an Arakelov theoretic version of the deformation to the normal cone. In particular, the geometric data is enriched with a deformation of a Hermitian line bundle. We introduce numerical invariants called arithmetic Hilbert invariants and prove the conservation of these invariants along the deformation. In a following article, this conservation of number theorem will allow a demonstration of the arithmetic Hilbert-Samuel theorem.
We study the deformations of the Chow group of zero-cycles of the special fibre of a smooth scheme over a henselian discrete valuation ring. Our main tools are Bloch's formula and differential forms. As a corollary we get an algebraization theorem for thickened zero-cycles previously obtained using idelic techniques. In the course of the proof we develop moving lemmata and Lefschetz theorems for cohomology groups with coefficients in differential forms.
We use the Thom-Whitney construction to show that infinitesimal deformations of a coherent sheaf F are controlled by the differential graded Lie algebra of global sections of an acyclic resolution of the sheaf End(E), where E is any locally free resolution of F. In particular, one recovers the well known fact that the tangent space to deformations of F is Ext^1(F,F), and obstructions are contained in Ext^2(F,F). The main tool is the identification of the deformation functor associated with the Thom-Whitney DGLA of a semicosimplicial DGLA whose cohomology is concentrated in nonnegative degrees …
We study the deformation theory of a Fano variety X with normal crossing singularities of dimension at most three. We obtain a formula for the sheaf T^1(X) of first order deformations of X in a suitable log resolution of X and its singular locus Z and we obtain explicit criteria for the existence of smoothings of X.
We present new results on equisingularity and equinormalizability of families with isolated non-normal singularities (INNS) of arbitrary dimension. We define a $δ$-invariant and a $μ$-invariant for an INNS and prove necessary and sufficient numerical conditions for equinormalizability and weak equinormalizability using $δ$ and $μ$. Moreover, we determine the number of connected components of the Milnor fibre of an arbitrary INNS. For families of generically reduced curves, we investigate the topological behavior of the Milnor fibre and characterize topological triviality of such families. Fina…
Let $D:Ω\xrightarrow{}Ω$ be a differential operator defined in the exterior algebra $Ω$ of differential forms over the polynomial ring $S$ in $n$ variables. In this work we give conditions for deforming the module structure of $Ω$ over $S$ induced by the differential operator $D$, in order to make $D$ an $S$-linear morphism while leaving the $\mathbb{C}$-vector space structure of $Ω$ unchanged. One can then apply the usual algebraic tools to study differential operators: finding generators of the kernel and image, computing a Hilbert polynomial of these modules, etc. Taking differential operat…
We introduce a variant of the usual Kahler forms on free and almost free divisors and their deformations, and show that they enjoy the same depth properties as Kahler forms on isolated complete intersection singularities. Using these forms, it is possible to describe analytically the vanishing cohomology in families of free divisors, in precise analogy with the classical description for the Milnor fibration of an ICIS, due to Brieskorn and Greuel. This applies in par- ticular to the family of discriminants of a versal deformation of an unstable map-germ.
We construct the deformation functor associated with a pair of morphisms of differential graded Lie algebras, and use it to study infinitesimal deformations of holomorphic maps of compact complex manifolds. In particular, using L-infinity structures, we give an explicit description of the differential graded Lie algebra that controls this problem.
In \cite{K} we introduced two variants of higher-order differentials of the period map and showed how to compute them for a variation of Hodge structure that comes from a deformation of a compact Kähler manifold. More recently there appeared several works (\cite{BG}, \cite{EV}, \cite{R}) defining higher tangent spaces to the moduli and the corresponding higher Kodaira-Spencer classes of a deformation. The $n^{th}$ such class $κ_n$ captures all essential information about the deformation up to $n^{th}$ order. A well-known result of Griffiths states that the (first) differential of the period ma…
We construct a versal family of deformations of CR structures in five dimensions, using a differential complex closely related to the differential form complex introduced by Rumin for contact manifolds.
Let $X$ be a Noetherian separated and finite dimensional scheme over a field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic zero. The goal of this paper is to study deformations of $X$ over a differential graded local Artin $\mathbb{K}$-algebra by using local Tate-Quillen resolutions, i.e., the algebraic analog of the Palamodov's resolvent of a complex space. The above goal is achieved by describing the DG-Lie algebra controlling deformation theory of a diagram of differential graded commutative algebras, indexed by a direct Reedy category.
In this paper we generalize Artin-Verdier, Esnault and Wunram construction of McKay correspondence to arbitrary Gorenstein surface singularities. The key idea is the definition and a systematic use of a degeneracy module, which is an enhancement of the first Chern class construction via a degeneracy locus. We study also deformation and moduli questions. Among our main result we quote: a full classification of special reflexive MCM modules on normal Gorenstein surface singularities in terms of divisorial valuations centered at the singularity, a first Chern class determination at an adequate re…
In the late '60s, B. Dwork studied a Frobenius structure compatible with the classical hypergeometric differential equation with parameters $\left(\frac{1}{2},\frac{1}{2} ; 1 \right)$ by analyzing behavior of solutions of the differential equation under Frobenius transformation. Recently, P. Scholze conjectured the existence of $q$-de Rham cohomology groups for any $\mathbb{Z}$-scheme. In this paper, we give a Frobenius structure compatible with the $q$-hypergeometric differential equation with parameters $(q^{\frac12},q^{\frac12};q)$ by showing a $q$-analogue of some results of Dwork. This co…
Given a normal $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein complex variety $X$, we prove that if one spreads it out to a normal $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein scheme $\mathcal{X}$ of mixed characteristic whose reduction $\mathcal{X}_p$ modulo $p$ has normal $F$-pure singularities for a single prime $p$, then $X$ has log canonical singularities. In addition, we show its analog for log terminal singularities, without assuming that $\mathcal{X}$ is $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein, which is a generalization of a result of Ma-Schwede. We also prove that two-dimensional strongly $F$-regular singularities are stable under equal charac…
The aim of this article is to establish the specialization method on characteristic ideals for finitely generated torsion modules over a complete local normal domain R that is module-finite over $O[[x_1, ..., x_d]]$, where $O$ is the ring of integers of a finite extension of the field of p-adic integers $Q_p$. The specialization method is a technique that recovers the information on the characteristic ideal $char_R(M)$ from $char_{R/I}(M/IM)$, where I varies in a certain family of nonzero principal ideals of R. As applications, we prove Euler system bound over Cohen-Macaulay normal domains by …
Let $\mathcal{A}_{crit}$ be the chiral algebra corresponding to the affine Kac-Moody algebra at the critical level $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}_{crit}$. Let $\mathfrak{Z}_{crit}$ be the center of $\mathcal{A}_{crit}$. The commutative chiral algebra $\mathfrak{Z}_{crit}$ admits a canonical deformation into a non-commutative chiral algebra $\mathcl{W}_{h}$. In this paper we will express the resulting first order deformation via the chiral algebra $\mathcal{D}_{crit}$ of chiral differential operators of $G((t))$ at the critical level.
We develop the notion of deformation of a morphism in a left-proper model category. As an application we provide a geometric/homotopic description of deformations of commutative (non-positively) graded differential algebras over a local DG-Artin ring.
We prove existence and nonexistence results for certain differential forms in positive characteristic, called {\em good deformation data}. Some of these results are obtained by reduction modulo $p$ of Belyi maps. As an application, we solve the local lifting problem for groups with Sylow $p$-subgroup of order $p$.
We study analytic deformations of holomorphic differential 1-forms. The initial 1-form is exact homogeneous and the deformation is by polynomial integrable 1-forms. We investigate under which conditions the elements of the deformation are still exact or, more generally, exhibit a first integral. Our results are related to natural extensions of classical results of Ilyashenko on limit cycles of perturbations of hamiltonian systems in two complex variables.
The deformation of a variety $X$ to the normal cone of a subvariety $Y$ is a classical construction in algebraic geometry. In this paper we study the case when $(X,ω)$ is a compact Kähler manifold and $Y$ is a submanifold. The deformation space $\mathcal{X}$ is fibered over $\mathbb{P}^1$ and all the fibers $X_τ$ are isomorphic to $X$, except the zero-fiber, which has the projective completion of the normal bundle $N_{Y|X}$ as one of its components. The first main result of this paper is that one can find Kähler forms on modifications of $\mathcal{X}$ which restricts to $ω$ on $X_1$ and which …
Three-fold quasi-homogeneous isolated rational singularity is argued to define a four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFT. The Seiberg-Witten geometry is built on the mini-versal deformation of the singularity. We argue in this paper that the corresponding Seiberg-Witten differential is given by the Gelfand-Leray form of K. Saito's primitive form. Our result also extends the Seiberg-Witten solution to include irrelevant deformations.
We show that if a generator of a differential Gerstenhaber algebra satisfies certain Cartan-type identities, then the corresponding Lie bracket is formal. Geometric examples include the shifted de Rham complex of a Poisson manifold and the subcomplex of differential forms on a symplectic manifold vanishing on a Lagrangian submanifold, endowed with the Koszul bracket. As a corollary we generalize a recent result by Hitchin on deformations of holomorphic Poisson manifolds.
