Lukasiewicz logic is a "fuzzy" logic in which truth value can be real numbers in the unit interval. There are connectives for min, max, addition and complement (1-x). The "value" of a closed formula in a fuzzy (relational model) is defined in the natural way.
A formula is called valid iff it has value 1 in every fuzzy model.
We show that the set of valid formulas in Lukasiewicz predicate logic is a complete Pi^0_2 set.
We also show that if we restrict our attention to the classical language (min, max, complement) then the classically valid formulas are exactly those formulas whose fuzzy value is 1/2.
In this paper, a short survey about the concepts underlying general logics is given. In particular, a novel rigorous definition of a fuzzy negation as an operation acting on a lattice to render it into a fuzzy logic is presented. According to this definition, a fuzzy negation satisfies the weak double negation condition, requiring double negation to be expansive, the antitony condition, being equivalent to the disjunctive De Morgan law and thus warranting compatibility of negation with the lattice operations, and the Boolean boundary condition stating that the universal bounds of the lattice a…
We introduce two-dimensional logics based on Łukasiewicz and Gödel logics to formalize paraconsistent fuzzy reasoning. The logics are interpreted on matrices, where the common underlying structure is the bi-lattice (twisted) product of the $[0,1]$ interval. The first (resp.\ second) coordinate encodes the positive (resp.\ negative) information one has about a statement. We propose constraint tableaux that provide a modular framework to address their completeness and complexity.
In this paper defuzzification method of WABL is investigated, its properties are analyzed. The WABL method is applied to some fuzzy models. The package of applied programs is worked out on the base of proposed algorithms. The obtained in the form of visual- interactive graphs results are compared with knows ones.
This short paper addresses the open problems left in a previous paper by Franco Montagna and Carles Noguera. Besides giving solutions to these two problems, some clarification concerning the role of the full vocabulary (including functional symbols) in the proofs there given is also discussed.
This paper is a contribution to graded model theory, in the context of mathematical fuzzy logic. We study characterizations of classes of graded structures in terms of the syntactic form of their first-order axiomatization. We focus on classes given by universal and universal-existential sentences. In particular, we prove two amalgamation results using the technique of diagrams in the setting of structures valued on a finite MTL-algebra, from which analogues of the Los--Tarski and the Chang--Los--Suszko preservation theorems follow.
Takeuti and Titani have introduced and investigated a logic they called intuitionistic fuzzy logic. This logic is characterized as the first-order Goedel logic based on the truth value set [0,1]. The logic is known to be axiomatizable, but no deduction system amenable to proof-theoretic, and hence, computational treatment, has been known. Such a system is presented here, based on previous work on hypersequent calculi for propositional Goedel logics by Avron. It is shown that the system is sound and complete, and allows cut-elimination. A question by Takano regarding the eliminability of the Ta…
How can non-classical logic contribute to the analysis of complexity in computer science? In this paper, we give a step towards this question, taking a logical model-theoretic approach to the analysis of complexity in fuzzy constraint satisfaction. We study fuzzy positive-primitive sentences, and we present an algebraic characterization of classes axiomatized by this kind of sentences in terms of homomorphisms and direct products. The ultimate goal is to study the expressiveness and reasoning mechanisms of non-classical languages, with respect to constraint satisfaction problems and, in genera…
In this article we introduce the variety of monadic BL-algebras as BL-algebras endowed with two monadic operators $\forall$ and $\exists$. After a study of the basic properties of this variety we show that this class is the equivalent algebraic semantics of the monadic fragment of Hájek's basic predicate logic. In addition, we start a systematic study of the main subvarieties of monadic BL-algebras, some of which constitute the algebraic semantics of well-known monadic logics: monadic Gödel logic and monadic Łukasiewicz logic. In the last section we give a complete characterization of totally …
Kripke frames (and models) provide a suitable semantics for sub-classical logics, for example Intuitionistic Logic (of Brouwer and Heyting) axiomatizes the reflexive and transitive Kripke frames (with persistent satisfaction relations), and the Basic Logic (of Visser) axiomatizes transitive Kripke frames (with persistent satisfaction relations). Here, we investigate whether Kripke frames/models could provide a semantics for fuzzy logics. For each axiom of the Basic Fuzzy Logic, necessary and sufficient conditions are sought for Kripke frames/models which satisfy them. It turns out that the onl…
Continuing to pursue a research direction that we already explored in connection with Gödel-Dummett logic and Ruspini partitions, we show here that Łukasiewicz logic is able to express the notion of pseudo-triangular basis of fuzzy sets, a mild weakening of the standard notion of triangular basis. En route to our main result we obtain an elementary, logic-independent characterisation of triangular bases of fuzzy sets.
One of the nice properties of the first-order logic is the compactness of satisfiability. It state that a finitely satisfiable theory is satisfiable. However, different degrees of satisfiability in many-valued logics, poses various kind of the compactness in these logics. One of this issues is the compactness of $K$-satisfiability. Here, after an overview on the results around the compactness of satisfiability and compactness of $K$-satisfiability in many-valued logic based on continuous t-norms (basic logic), we extend the results around this topic. To this end, we consider a reverse semantic…
This paper is a contribution to the study of the universal Horn fragment of predicate fuzzy logics, focusing on some relevant notions in logic programming. We introduce the notion of term structure associated to a set of formulas in the fuzzy context and we show the existence of free models in fuzzy universal Horn classes. We prove that every equality-free consistent universal Horn fuzzy theory has a Herbrand model.
A presentation is provided of the basic notions and operations of a) the propositional calculus of a variant of fuzzy logic -- canonical fuzzy logic, CFL -- and in a more succinct and introductory way, of b) the theory of fuzzy sets according to that same logic. The propositional calculus of bivalent classical logic and classical set theory can be considered as particular cases of the corresponding theories of CFL if the numerical value of a specific parameter $w$ is restricted to only two possibilities, 0 and 1.
This paper considers the problem of building saturated models for first-order graded logics. We define types as pairs of sets of formulas in one free variable which express properties that an element is expected, respectively, to satisfy and to falsify. We show, by means of an elementary chains construction, that each model can be elementarily extended to a saturated model where as many types as possible are realized. In order to prove this theorem we obtain, as by-products, some results on tableaux (understood as pairs of sets of formulas) and their consistency and satisfiability, and a gener…
Justification logics are special kinds of modal logics which provide a framework for reasoning about epistemic justifications. For this, they extend classical boolean propositional logic by a family of necessity-style modal operators "t:", indexed over t by a corresponding set of justification terms, which thus explicitly encode the justification for the necessity assertion in the syntax. With these operators, one can therefore not only reason about modal effects on propositions but also about dynamics inside the justifications themselves. We replace this classical boolean base with Gödel logi…
The major part of this thesis deals with fuzzy geometric logic and fuzzy geometric logic with graded consequence. The first chapter mainly contains the concept of topological system introduced by S. Vickers in 1989. In Chapter 2 the notion of fuzzy topological system is introduced and categorical relationship with fuzzy topology and frame is discussed in detail. Also this chapter contains some methodology to make new fuzzy topological systems from the old one.Chapter 3 provides a generalization of fuzzy topological system which shall be called L topological system and categorical relationships…
Fuzzy logic is a way to argue with boolean predicates for which we only have a confidence value between 0 and 1 rather than a well defined truth value. It is tempting to interpret such a confidence as a probability. We use Markov kernels, parametrised probability distributions, to do just that. As a consequence we get general fuzzy logic connectives from probabilistic computations on products of the booleans, stressing the importance of joint confidence functions. We discuss binary logic connectives in detail and recover the "classic" fuzzy connectives as bounds for the confidence for general …
This paper employs the linear nested sequent framework to design a new cut-free calculus LNIF for intuitionistic fuzzy logic--the first-order Gödel logic characterized by linear relational frames with constant domains. Linear nested sequents--which are nested sequents restricted to linear structures--prove to be a well-suited proof-theoretic formalism for intuitionistic fuzzy logic. We show that the calculus LNIF possesses highly desirable proof-theoretic properties such as invertibility of all rules, admissibility of structural rules, and syntactic cut-elimination.

This paper proposes the meeting of fuzzy logic with paraconsistency in a very precise and foundational way. Specifically, in this paper we introduce expansions of the fuzzy logic MTL by means of primitive operators for consistency and inconsistency in the style of the so-called Logics of Formal Inconsistency (LFIs). The main novelty of the present approach is the definition of postulates for this type of operators over MTL-algebras, leading to the definition and axiomatization of a family of logics, expansions of MTL, whose degree-preserving counterpart are paraconsistent and moreover LFIs.
The present paper extends generalized morphisms of relations into the realm of Monoidal Fuzzy Logics by first proving and then using relational inequalities over pseudo-associative BK-products (compositions) of relations in these logics. In 1977 Bandler and Kohout introduced generalized homomorphism, proteromorphism, amphimorphism, forward and backward compatibility of relations, and non-associative and pseudo-associative products (compositions) of relations into crisp (non-fuzzy Boolean) theory of relations. This was generalized later by Kohout to relations based on fuzzy Basic Logic systems …
The aim of this paper is to propose a many-valued modal framework to formalize reasoning with both graded preferences and propositions, in the style of van Benthem et al.'s classical modal logics for preferences. To do so, we start from Bou et al.'s minimal modal logic over a finite and linearly ordered residuated lattice. We then define appropriate extensions on a multi-modal language with graded modalities, both for weak and strict preferences, and with truth-constants. Actually, the presence of truth-constants in the language allows us to show that the modal operators Box and Diamond of the…
Constructing a fuzzy subset logic L with Boolean properties is notoriously difficult because under a handful of "reasonable" conditions, we have the following three debilitating constraints: (1) Bellman and Giertz in 1973 showed that if L is distributive, then it must be idempotent. (2) Dubois and Padre in 1980 showed that if L has the excluded middle or the non-contradiction property or both, then it must be non-idempotent. (3) Bellman and Giertz also demonstrated in 1973 that even if L is idempotent, then the only choice available for the (meet, join) logic operator pair is the (min, max) oper…
