We construct a countable inductive limit of weighted Banach spaces of holomorphic functions, which is not a topological subspace of the corresponding weighted inductive limit of spaces of continuous functions. The main step of our construction, using a special sequence of outer holomorphic functions, shows that a certain sequence space is isomorphic to a complemented subspace of a weighted space of holomorphic functions in two complex variables.
This example solves in the negative a well-known open problem raised by Bierstedt, Meise and Summers.
Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for density of shift-invariant subspaces of the space $\mathcal{L}$ of integrable functions of bounded support with the inductive limit topology.
Countable projective limits of countable inductive limits, called PLB-spaces, of weighted Banach spaces of continuous functions have recently been investigated by Agethen, Bierstedt and Bonet. We extend their investigation to the case of holomorphic functions regarding the same type of questions, i.e. we analyze locally convex properties in terms of the defining double sequence of weights and study the interchangeability of projective and inductive limit.
We discuss the continuity of the composition on several spaces of holomorphic mappings on open subsets of a complex Banach space. On the Fréchet space of the entire mappings that are bounded on bounded sets the composition turns to be even holomorphic. In such space we consider linear subspaces closed under left and right composition. We discuss the relationship of such subspaces with ideals of operators and give several examples of them. We also provide natural examples of spaces of holomorphic mappings where the composition is not continuous.
Countable projective limits of countable inductive limits, called PLB-spaces, of weighted Banach spaces of continuous functions have recently been investigated by Agethen, Bierstedt and Bonet. In a previous article, the author extended their investigation to the case of holomorphic functions and characterized when spaces over the unit disc w.r.t. weights whose decay, roughly speaking, is neither faster nor slower than that of a polynomial are ultrabornological or barrelled. In this note, we prove a similar characterization for the case of weights which tend to zero logarithmically.
Extending a result of Mashreghi and Ransford, we prove that every complex separable infinite dimensional Fréchet space with a continuous norm is isomorphic to a space continuously included in a space of holomorphic functions on the unit disc or the complex plane, which contains the polynomials as a dense subspace. As a consequence examples of nuclear Fréchet spaces of holomorphic functions without the bounded approximation exist.
We systematically derive general properties of continuous and holomorphic functions with values in closed operators, allowing in particular for operators with empty resolvent set. We provide criteria for a given operator-valued function to be continuous or holomorphic. This includes sufficient conditions for the sum and product of operator-valued holomorphic functions to be holomorphic. Using graphs of operators, operator-valued functions are identified with functions with values in subspaces of a Banach space. A special role is thus played by projections onto closed subspaces of a Banach spac…
Suppose that $f := (f_1,\ldots,f_d):Ω_1\toΩ_2$ is a proper holomorphic map between two bounded domains in $\mathbb C^d.$ In this paper, we find a non-trivial minimal joint reducing subspace for the multiplication operator (tuple) $M_f=(M_{f_1},\ldots, M_{f_d})$ on the Bergman space $\mathbb A^2(Ω_1)$, say $\mathcal M.$ We further show that the restriction of $(M_{f_1},\ldots,M_{f_d})$ to $\mathcal M$ is unitarily equivalent to Bergman operator on $\mathbb A^2(Ω_2).$
We describe the proper closed invariant subspaces of the integration operator when it acts continuously on countable intersections and countable unions of weighted Banach spaces of holomorphic functions on the unit disc or the complex plane. Applications are given to the case of Korenblum type spaces and Hörmander algebras of entire functions.
We construct a nuclear space $Φ$ as an inductive limit of finite-dimensional subspaces of a Hilbert space $H$ in such a way that $(Φ,H,Φ')$ becomes a rigged Hilbert space, thus simplifying the construction by Bellomonte and Trapani.
Let $ E $ be a space of holomorphic functions on the unit ball $ B_X $ of a Banach space $ X.$ In this work, we introduce a Banach structure associated to $ E $ on the linear space $ WE(Y) $ containing $ Y$-valued holomorphic functions on $ B_X $ such that $ w \circ f \in E $ for every $ w \in W, $ a separating subspace of the dual $ Y' $ of a Banach $ Y. $ We establish the relation between the boundedness, the (weak) compactness of the weighted composition operators $ W_{ψ,φ}: f\mapsto ψ\cdot(f \circ φ) $ on $ E $ and $ \widetilde{W}_{ψ,φ}: g\mapsto ψ\cdot(g \circ φ) $ on $ WE(Y)$ via some ch…
It is an English translation of the paper originally published in Russian and Ukrainian in 1987. In the appendix of his book S.Banach introduced the following definition Let $X$ be a Banach space and $Γ$ be a subspace of the dual space $X^*$. The set of all limits of $w^{*}$-convergent sequences in $Γ$ is called the $w^*${\it -derived set} of $Γ$ and is denoted by $Γ_{(1)}$. For an ordinal $α$ the $w^{*}$-{\it derived set of order} $α$ is defined inductively by the equality: $$ Γ_{(α)}=\bigcup _{β<α}((Γ_{(β)})_{(1)}. $$
We obtaine the full characterization of proper closed invariant subspaces of a generalized backward shift operator (Pommiez operator) in the Frechet space of all holomorphic functions on a simply connected domain $Ω$ of the complex plane, containing the origin. In the case when the function, which defines this operator, is not has zeros in $Ω$ all such subspaces are finite-dimensional. If additionally $Ω$ coincides with the complex plane, then the considered operator is unicellular. If this function has zeros in $Ω$, then the family of mentioned invariant subspaces splits into two classes: the…
Related to the concept of $p$-compact operator with $p\in [1,\infty]$ introduced by Sinha and Karn, this paper deals with the space $\mathcal{H}^\infty_{\mathcal{K}_p}(U,F)$ of all Banach-valued holomorphic mappings on an open subset $U$ of a complex Banach space $E$ whose ranges are relatively $p$-compact subsets of $F$. We characterize such holomorphic mappings as those whose Mujica's linearisations on the canonical predual of $\mathcal{H}^\infty(U)$ are $p$-compact operators. This fact allows us to make a complete study of them. We show that $\mathcal{H}^\infty_{\mathcal{K}_p}$ is a surject…
Let $X$ be a separable nonquasireflexive Banach space. Let $Y$ be a Banach space isomorphic to a subspace of $X^*$. The paper is devoted to the following questions: 1. Under what conditions does there exist an isomorphic embedding $T:Y\to X^*$ such that subspace $T(Y)\subset X^*$ is total? 2. If such embeddings exist, what are the possible orders of $T(Y)$? Here we need to recall some definitions. For a subset $M\subset X^*$ we denote the set of all limits of weak$^*$ convergent sequences in $M$ by $M_{(1)}$. Inductively, for ordinal number $α$ we let $$M_{(α)}=\cup_{β<α}(M_{(β)})_{(1)}.$$ The…
Let $\mathbb{D}$ be the open unit disk in $\mathbb{C}$, let $H^2$ denote the Hardy space on $\mathbb{D}$ and let $φ: \mathbb{D} \rightarrow \mathbb{D}$ be a holomorphic self map of $\mathbb{D}$. The composition operator $C_φ$ on $H^2$ is defined by \[ (C_φ f)(z)=f(φ(z)) \quad \quad (f \in H^2,\, z \in \mathbb{D}). \] Denote by $\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{D})$ the set of all functions that are holomorphic and bounded by one in modulus on $\mathbb{D}$, that is \[ \mathcal{S}(\mathbb{D}) = \{ψ\in H^\infty(\mathbb{D}): \|ψ\|_{\infty} := \sup_{z \in \mathbb{D}} |ψ(z)| \leq 1\}. \] The elements of $\mathca…
Let $K$ be a Hausdorff space and $C_b(K)$ be the Banach algebra of all complex bounded continuous functions on $K$. We study the Gâteaux and Fréchet differentiability of subspaces of $C_b(K)$. Using this, we show that the set of all strong peak functions in a nontrivial separating separable subspace $H$ of $C_b(K)$ is a dense $G_δ$ subset of $H$, if $K$ is compact. This gives a generalized Bishop's theorem, which says that the closure of the set of strong peak point for $H$ is the smallest closed norming subset of $H$. The classical Bishop's theorem was proved for a separating subalgebra $H$ a…
In this note we prove that the reproducing kernel of a Hilbert space satisfying the division property has integrable form, is locally of trace class, and the Hilbert space itself is a Hilbert space of holomorphic functions.
We show that the factorization problem $θ(z)=θ_2(z)θ_1(z)$ is solvable in the class of Hilbert space operator-valued functions holomorphic on some neighbourhood of $z=0$ in $\nspace{C}{N}$ and having a zero at $z=0$ (here $θ(z)$ has a multiple zero at $z=0$). Such a factorization problem becomes more complicated if we demand for $θ(z), θ_1(z)$ and $θ_2(z)$ to be Agler--Schur-class functions on the polydisk $\nspace{D}{N}$ and for the factorization identity to hold in $\nspace{D}{N}$. In this case we reduce it to the problem on the existence of a cascade decomposition for certain multiparametri…
We present a relatively simple inductive proof of the classical Levy-Steinitz Theorem saying that for a sequence $(x_n)_{n=1}^\infty$ in a finite-dimensional Banach space $X$ the set of all sums of rearranged series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty x_{σ(n)}$ is an affine subspace of $X$. This affine subspace is not empty if and only if for any linear functional $f:X\to \mathbb R$ the series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty f(x_{σ(n)})$ is convergent for some permutation $σ$ of $\mathbb N$. This gives an answer to a problem of Vaja Tarieladze, posed in Lviv Scottish Book in September, 2017. Also we construct a sequence $(…
We consider the invariant subspace of composition operators on Hardy space $H^p$ where the composition operators corresponding to a function $φ$ that is a holomorphic self-map of $\mathbb D$. Firstly, we discuss composition operators $C_φ$ on subspace $H_{α,β}^p$ of Hardy space $H^p$. We will explore the invariant subspaces for $C_φ$ in various special cases. Secondly, we consider Beurling type invariant subspace for $C_φ$. When $θ$ is a inner function, we prove that $θH^p$ is invariant for $C_φ$ if and only if $\displaystyle{\frac{θ\circφ}θ}$ belongs to $\mathcal S(\mathbb D)$. Thirdly, we ob…
We consider Banach spaces E of functions holomorphic on the open unit disc D such that the unilateral shift S and the backward shift T are bounded on E. Assuming that the spectra of S and T are equal to the closed unit disc we discuss the existence of closed z-invariant of N of E having the "division property", which means that the function f $λ$ : z $\rightarrow$ f (z)/ z--$λ$ belongs to N for every $λ$ $\in$ D and for every f $\in$ N such that f ($λ$) = 0. This question is related to the existence of nontrivial bi-invariant subspaces of Banach spaces of hyperfunctions on the unit circle T.
We introduce the notion of numerical (strong) peak function and investigate the denseness of the norm and numerical peak functions on complex Banach spaces. Let $A_b(B_X:X)$ be the Banach space of all bounded continuous functions $f$ on the unit ball $B_X$ of a Banach space $X$ and their restrictions $f|_{B_X^\circ}$ to the open unit ball are holomorphic. In finite dimensional spaces, we show that the intersection of the set of all norm peak functions and the set of all numerical peak functions is a dense $G_δ$ subset of $A_b(B_X:X)$. We also prove that if $X$ is a smooth Banach space with the…
The main result of the paper is the theorem giving a sufficient condition for the existence of a bounded analytic projection onto a holomorphic family of (generally infinite-dimensional) subspaces (a holomorphic sub-bundle of a trivial bundle). This sufficient condition is also necessary in the case of finite dimension or codimension of the bundle. A simple lemma of N. Nikolski connects the existence of a bounded analytic projection with the Operator Corona Problem (existence of a bounded analytic left inverse for an operator-valued function), so as corollaries of the main result we obtain new…
We investigate continuous linear operators, which commute with the generalized backward shift operator (a one-dimensional perturbation of the Pommiez operator) in a countable inductive limit $E$ of weighted Banach spaces of entire functions. This space E is isomorphic with the help of the Fourier-Laplace transform to the strong dual of the Fréchet space of all holomorphic functions on a convex domain Q in the complex plane, containing the origin. Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained that an operator of the mentioned commutant is a topological isomorphism of E. The problem of the fa…
Denote by $ B_X $ the unit ball of an infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space $ X. $ Let $ψ\in H(B_X),$ the space of all holomorphic functions on the unit ball $B_X,$ $φ\in S(B_X)$ the set of holomorphic self-maps of $B_X. $ Let $C_{ψ, φ}: \mathcal B_ν(B_X)$ (and $ \mathcal B_{ν,0}(B_X)$) $\to \mathcal B_μ(B_X) $ (and $ \mathcal B_{μ,0}(B_X)$) be weighted extended Cesàro operators induced by products of the extended Cesàro operator $ C_φ$ and integral operator $T_ψ.$ In this paper, we characterize the boundedness and compactness of $ C_{ψ,φ} $ via the estimates for the restrictions of $ ψ$ …
