Discrete stationary classical processes as well as quantum lattice states are asymptotically confined to their respective typical support, the exponential growth rate of which is given by the (maximal ergodic) entropy. In the iid case the distinguishability of typical supports can be asymptotically specified by means of the relative entropy, according to Sanov's theorem. We give an extension to the correlated case, referring to the newly introduced class of HP-states.

Sanov-type large deviations and conditional limit theorems for high-dimensional Orlicz balls

In this paper, we prove a Sanov-type large deviation principle for the sequence of empirical measures of vectors chosen uniformly at random from an Orlicz ball. From this level-$2$ large deviation result, in a combination with Gibbs conditioning, entropy maximization and an Orlicz version of the Poincaré-Maxwell-Borel lemma, we deduce a conditional limit theorem for high-dimensional Orlicz balls. The enhanced Sanov theorem and propagation of chaos

We establish a Sanov type large deviation principle for an ensemble of interacting Brownian rough paths. As application a large deviations for the ($k$-layer, enhanced) empirical measure of weakly interacting diffusions is obtained. This in turn implies a propagation of chaos result in rough path spaces and allows for a robust subsequent analysis of the particle system and its McKean-Vlasov type limit, as shown in two corollaries.

A non-exponential extension of Sanov's theorem via convex duality

This work is devoted to a vast extension of Sanov's theorem, in Laplace principle form, based on alternatives to the classical convex dual pair of relative entropy and cumulant generating functional. The Entropy Method in Large Deviation Theory

This paper illustrates the power of the entropy method in addressing problems from large deviation theory. We provide and review entropy proofs for most fundamental results in large deviation theory, including Cramer's theorem, the Gärtner--Ellis theorem, and Sanov's theorem. Moreover, by the entropy method, we also strengthen Sanov's theorem to the strong version.

A Renewal version of the Sanov theorem

Large deviations for the local time of a process $X_t$ are investigated, where $X_t=x_i$ for $t \in [S_{i-1},S_i[$ and $(x_j)$ are i.i.d.\ random variables on a Polish space, $S_j$ is the $j$-th arrival time of a renewal process depending on $(x_j)$. Sharp finite-sample concentration of independent variables

We show an extension of Sanov's theorem on large deviations, controlling the tail probabilities of i.i.d. random variables with matching concentration and anti-concentration bounds. Large Deviations for the Empirical Distribution in the General Branching Random Walk

We consider the general branching random walk under minimal assumptions, which in particular guarantee that the empirical particle distribution admits an almost sure central limit theorem. For such a process, we study the large time decay of the probability that the fraction of particles in a typical set deviates from its typical value. We show that such probabilities decay doubly exponentially with speed which is either linear in or the square root of the number of generations, depending on the set and the magnitude of the deviation. We also find the rate of decay in each case.

Edge fluctuations and third-order phase transition in harmonically confined long-range systems

We study the distribution of the position of the rightmost particle $x_{\max}$ in a $N$-particle Riesz gas in one dimension confined in a harmonic trap. The particles interact via long-range repulsive potential, of the form $r^{-k}$ with $-2<k<\infty$ where $r$ is the inter-particle distance. In equilibrium at temperature $O(1)$, the gas settles on a finite length scale $L_N$ that depends on $N$ and $k$. Large deviations for empirical entropies of Gibbsian sources

The entropy of an ergodic finite-alphabet process can be computed from a single typical sample path x_1^n using the entropy of the k-block empirical probability and letting k grow with $n$ roughly like log n. We further assume that the distribution of the process is a g-measure; g-measures form a large class of Gibbs measures.
