The Farey Sequence, Stern Brocot Tree and Euclids Theorem

Farey's sequence is a well-known procedure used to generate proper fractions from 0 to 1. Farey sequence is commonly used in rational approximations of irrational numbers, ford circles and in Riemann hypothesis. Thus, in this paper, we aim to use properties of the Farey's sequence to prove the popular gcd theorem.

A dichotomy between uniform distributions of the Stern-Brocot and the Farey sequence

We employ infinite ergodic theory to show that the even Stern-Brocot sequence and the Farey sequence are uniformly distributed mod 1 with respect to certain canonical weightings. As a corollary we derive the precise asymptotic for the Lebesgue measure of continued fraction sum-level sets as well as connections to asymptotic behaviours of geometrically and arithmetically restricted Poincaré series. Moreover, we give relations of our main results to elementary observations for the Stern-Brocot tree.

On partitions of the unit interval generated by Brocot sequences

Let $ p_{i, n}, i=1,..., N(n)=2^{n-1} $ be the lengths of intervals between the neighboring fractions of Brocot sequence $ F_n $. We obtain an asymptotic formula for $σ_β(F_n)=\sum_{i=1}^{N(n)} p_{i, n}^β $,which improves known estimates.

A multifractal analysis for Stern-Brocot intervals, continued fractions and Diophantine growth rates

In this paper we obtain multifractal generalizations of classical results by Lévy and Khintchin in metrical Diophantine approximations and measure theory of continued fractions. We give a complete multifractal analysis for Stern--Brocot intervals, for continued fractions and for certain Diophantine growth rates. In particular, we give detailed discussions of two multifractal spectra closely related to the Farey map and the Gauss map.

Enumerating the rationals from left to right

Farey sequences, Stern-Brocot sequences, the Calkin-Wilf sequences are shown to be generated via almost identical second order recurrence relations. These sequences have combinatorial, computational, and geometric applications, and are useful for enumerating the rational numbers.

On integer partitions and continued fraction type algorithms

We show that the additive-slow-Farey version of the traditional continued fractions algorithm has a natural interpretation as a method for producing integer partitions of a positive number $n$ into two smaller numbers, with multiplicity. We provide a complete description of how such integer partitions occur and of the conjugation for the corresponding Young shapes via the dynamics of the classical Farey tree.
