Given a compact Kahler manifold with an extremal metric (M,ω), we give sufficient conditions on finite sets points p_1,...,p_n and weights a_1,...a_n for which the blow up of M at p_1,...,p_n has an extremal metric in the Kahler class π^*[ω] - ε(a_1 PD[E_1] + .. + a_n PD[E_n]) for all εsufficiently small. In particular our result implies that if (M,ω) is a toric manifold and p_1,...,p_n is any subset of the fixed locus of the torus action, then such metrics exist for any choice of the weights. The relationship with previous constructions of the first two authors for Kahler constant scalar curvature metrics is discussed.
We give conditions under which the blowup of an extremal Kähler manifold along a submanifold of codimension greater than two admits an extremal metric. This generalizes work of Arezzo-Pacard-Singer, who considered blowups in points.
The aim of this article is to study expansions of solutions to an extremal metric type equation on the blow-up of constant scalar curvature Kähler surfaces. This is related to finding constant scalar curvature Kähler (cscK) metrics on K-stable blow-ups of extremal Kähler surfaces
New examples of extremal Kähler metrics on blow-ups of parabolic ruled surfaces are constructed. The method is based on the gluing construction of Arezzo, Pacard and Singer. This enables to endow ruled surfaces of the form $\mathbb{P}(\mathcal{O}\oplus L)$ with special parabolic structures such that the associated iterated blow-up admits an extremal metric of non-constant scalar curvature.
We prove a version of the Arezzo-Pacard-Singer blow-up theorem in the setting of Poincaré type metrics. We apply this to give new examples of extremal Poincaré type metrics. A key feature is an additional obstruction which has no analogue in the compact case. This condition is conjecturally related to ensuring the metrics remain of Poincaré type.
We show that the blowup of an extremal Kahler manifold at a relatively stable point in the sense of GIT admits an extremal metric in Kahler classes that make the exceptional divisor sufficiently small, extending a result of Arezzo-Pacard-Singer. We also study the K-polystability of these blowups, sharpening a result of Stoppa in this case. As an application we show that the blowup of a Kahler-Einstein manifold at a point admits a constant scalar curvature Kahler metric in classes that make the exceptional divisor small, if it is K-polystable with respect to these classes.
In this note we clarify the structure of the moduli space of constant scalar curvature Kaehler metrics as one approaches the boundary of the Kaehler cone on cscK manifolds blown up at finite set of points, in the spirit of the previous work arXiv:math/0504115. Results about which Kaehler classes can be reached and about the position of the blown up points are given.
We continue the study of blow-ups in generalized complex geometry with the blow-up theory for generalized Kähler manifolds. The natural candidates for submanifolds to be blown-up are those which are generalized Poisson for one of the two generalized complex structures and can be blown up in a generalized complex manner. We show that the bi-Hermitian structure underlying the generalized Kähler pair lifts to a degenerate bi-Hermitian structure on this blow-up. Then, using a deformation procedure based on potentials in Kähler geometry, we identify two concrete situations in which one can deform t…
This is a continuation of the work of Arezzo-Pacard-Singer and the author on blowups of extremal Kähler manifolds. We prove the conjecture stated in [32], and we relate this result to the K-stability of blown up manifolds. As an application we prove that if a Kähler manifold M of dimension greater than 2 admits a cscK metric, then the blowup of M at a point admits a cscK metric if and only if it is K-stable, as long as the exceptional divisor is sufficiently small.
On a compact complex manifold we study the behaviour of strong Kähler with torsion (strong KT) structures under small deformations of the complex structure and the problem of extension of a strong KT metric. In this context we obtain the analogous result of Miyaoka extension theorem. Studying the blow-up of a strong KT manifold at a point or along a complex submanifold, we prove that a complex orbifold endowed with a strong KT metric admits a strong KT resolution. In this way we obtain new examples of compact simply-connected strong KT manifolds.
Let X be a compact toric surface. There exists a sequence of torus equivariant blow-ups of X such that the blown-up toric surface obtained admits a cscK metric.
We extend an argument of Stoppa to make some prgress towards a proof that Kähler-Einstein manifolds are "b-stable". We point out some algebro-geometric questions, involving finite generation, that arise.
In this paper, we study the blow-up of a locally conformal symplectic manifold. We show that there exists a locally conformal symplectic structure on the blow-up of a locally conformal symplectic manifold along a compact induced symplectic submanifold.
We apply a local differential geometric framework from Kähler toric geometry to (re)construct Calabi's extremal Kähler metrics on $\bbC\bbP^n$ blown-up at a point from data on the moment polytope.
In this paper, using the gluing formula of Gromov-Witten invariants under symplectic cutting, due to Li and Ruan, we studied the Gromov-Witten invariants of blow-ups at a smooth point or along a smooth curve. We established some relations between Gromov-Witten invariants of M and its blow-ups at a smooth point or along a smooth curve.
Using results of Gathmann, we prove the following theorem: If a smooth projective variety X has generically semisimple (p,p)-quantum cohomology, then the same is true for the blow-up of X at any number of points. This a successful test for a modified version of Dubrovin's conjecture from the ICM 1998.
In this article, we prove that the blow-up of a locally irreducible lcK space $X$ along a subspace $Z$ which verifies certain conditions is lcK if and only if $X$ is induced gcK, generalizing a theorem of Ornea-Verbitsky-Vuletescu to singular locally irreducible spaces. We also show that even if modifications of lcK spaces are not always of lcK type, they always admit quasi-lcK metrics.
An asymptotic formula for the Tian-Paul CM-line of a flat family blown-up at a flat closed sub-scheme is given. As an application we prove that the blow-up of a polarized manifold along a (relatively) Chow-unstable submanifold admits no (extremal) constant scalar curvature Kahler metrics in classes making the exceptional divisors sufficiently small. Moreover a geometric characterization of relatively Chow-unstable configuration of points in the projective space is given. From this we get new examples of classes admitting no extremal Kahler metric also in the case of the projective plane blown-…
The weight $θ$-sheaf $\underline{\mathbb{R}}_{X,θ}$ helps us to reinterpret Morse-Novikov cohomologies via sheaf theory. We give several theorems of Künneth and Leray-Hirsch types. As applications, we prove that the $θ$-Lefschetz number is independent of $θ$ and calculate the Morse-Novikov cohomologies of projective bundles. Based on these results, we give two blow-up formulae on (\emph{not necessarily compact}) complex manifolds, where the self-intersection formulae play a key role in establishing the explicit expressions for them.
A locally conformally Kahler (LCK) manifold is a manifold which is covered by a Kahler manifold, with the deck transform group acting by homotheties. We show that the blow-up of a compact LCK manifold along a complex submanifold admits an LCK structure if and only if this submanifold is globally conformally Kahler. We also prove that a twistor space (of a compact 4-manifold, a quaternion-Kahler manifold or a Riemannian m anifold) cannot admit an LCK metric, unless it is Kahler.
We introduce certain canonical blow-ups $\mathcal T_{s,p,n}$, as well as their distinct submanifolds $\mathcal M_{s,p,n}$, of Grassmann manifolds $G(p,n)$ by partitioning the Plücker coordinates with respect to a parameter $s$. Various geometric aspects of $\mathcal T_{s,p,n}$ and $\mathcal M_{s,p,n}$ are studied, for instance, the smoothness, the holomorphic symmetries, the (semi-)positivity of the anti-canonical bundles, the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics, the functoriality, etc. In particular, we introduce the notion of homeward compactification, of which $\mathcal T_{s,p,n}$ are exam…
