This paper is devoted to the study of the embeddings of a complex submanifold $S$ inside a larger complex manifold $M$; in particular, we are interested in comparing the embedding of $S$ in $M$ with the embedding of $S$ as the zero section in the total space of the normal bundle $N_S$ of $S$ in $M$. We explicitely describe some cohomological classes allowing to measure the difference between the two embeddings, in the spirit of the work by Grauert, Griffiths, and Camacho-Movasati-Sad; we are also able to explain the geometrical meaning of the separate vanishing of these classes. Our results holds for any codimension, but even for curves in a surface we generalize previous results due to Laufert and Camacho-Movasati-Sad.
For the first obstruction to extending a holomorphic vector bundle from a submanifold of a complex manifold found by Griffiths we give an explicit formula in terms of the Atiyah class of the bundle.
The Hartshorne conjecture predicts that two submanifolds X and Y in a projective manifold Z with ample normal bundles meets as soon as dim X + dim Y is at least dim Z. We mostly assume slightly stronger that one of the normal bundles is positive in the sense of Griffiths. We observe that the conjecture holds generically, relate it to question on cones of cycles and verify it in various cases.
Let $X$ be a complex manifold and $L$ be a holomorphic line bundle on $X$. Assume that $L$ is semi-positive, namely $L$ admits a smooth Hermitian metric with semi-positive Chern curvature. Let $Y$ be a compact Kähler submanifold of $X$ such that the restriction of $L$ to $Y$ is topologically trivial. We investigate the obstruction for $L$ to be unitary flat on a neighborhood of $Y$ in $X$. As an application, for example, we show the existence of nef, big, and non semi-positive line bundle on a non-singular projective surface.
Let $Y$ be a compact complex manifold embedded in a complex manifold with unitary flat normal bundle. Our interest is in a sort of the linearizability problem of a neighborhood of $Y$. As a higher-codimensional generalization of Ueda's result, we give a sufficient condition for the existence of a non-singular holomorphic foliation on a neighborhood of $Y$ which includes $Y$ as a leaf with unitary-linear holonomy. We apply this result to the existence problem of a smooth Hermitian metric with semi-positive curvature on a nef line bundle.
We construct a formal normal form for a real 2-codimensional submanifold $M\subset\mathbb{C}^{N+1}$ near a CR singularity approximating the sphere. This result gives a higher dimensional extension of Huang-Yin's normal form in $\mathbb{C}^{2}$.
We prove a theorem on the extension of holomorphic sections of powers of adjoint bundles from submanifolds of complex codimension 1 having non-trivial normal bundle. The first such result, due to Takayama, considers the case where the canonical bundle is twisted by a line bundle that is a sum of a big and nef line bundle and a ${\mathbb Q}$-divisor that has kawamata log terminal singularites on the submanifold from which extension occurs. In this paper we weaken the positivity assumptions on the twisting line bundle to what we believe to be the minimal positivity hypotheses. The main new idea …
A generalization to the almost complex setting of a well-known result by S. Webster is given. Namely, we prove that if $Γ$ is a strongly pseudoconvex hypersurface in an almost complex manifold $(M, J)$, then the conormal bundle of $Γ$ is a totally real submanifold of $(T^*M, \J)$, where $\J$ is the lifted almost complex structure on $T^*M$ defined by Ishihara and Yano.
In a setting of a complex manifold with a fixed positive line bundle and a submanifold, we consider the optimal Ohsawa-Takegoshi extension operator, sending a holomorphic section of the line bundle on the submanifold to the holomorphic extension of it on the ambient manifold with the minimal $L^2$-norm. We show that for a tower of submanifolds in the semiclassical setting, i.e. when we consider a large tensor power of the line bundle, the extension operators satisfy transitivity property modulo some small defect, which can be expressed through Toeplitz type operators. We calculate the first si…
In this paper we present some linear algebra behind quadratic parts of quadratically flat complex points of codimension two real submanifold in a complex manifold. Assuming some extra nondegenericity and using the result of Hong, complete normal form descriptions can be given, and in low dimensions, we obtain a complete classification without any extra assumptions.
Real-analytic Levi-flat codimension two CR singular submanifolds are a natural generalization to ${\mathbb{C}}^m$, $m > 2$, of Bishop surfaces in ${\mathbb{C}}^2$. Such submanifolds for example arise as zero sets of mixed-holomorphic equations with one variable antiholomorphic. We classify the codimension two Levi-flat CR singular quadrics, and we notice that new types of submanifolds arise in dimension 3 or greater. In fact, the nondegenerate submanifolds, i.e. higher order purturbations of $z_m=\bar{z}_1z_2+\bar{z}_1^2$, have no analogue in dimension 2. We prove that the Levi-foliation exten…

Let $M$ be a closed complex submanifold in ${\mathbb C}^N$ with the complete Kähler metric induced by the Euclidean metric. Several finiteness theorems on the $L^p$ Bergman space of holomorphic sections of a given Hermitian line bundle $L$ over $M$ and the associated $L^2$ cohomology groups are obtained. Some infiniteness theorems are also given in order to test the accuracy of finiteness theorems. As applications we obtain some rigidity results concerning growth of curvatures.
In this note we study two features of submanifolds (subvarieties) with ample normal bundles in a compact Kähler manifold X. First, we study how algebraic X can be, i.e. we investigate the algebraic dimension. Second, we study curves with ample normal bundles in case X is projective. We prove in various cases that the class of the curve is in the interior of the Mori cone.
We study a germ of real analytic $n$-dimensional submanifold of ${\mathbf C}^n$ that has a complex tangent space of maximal dimension at a CR singularity. Under the condition that its complexification admits the maximum number of deck transformations, we study its transformation to a normal form under the action of local (possibly formal) biholomorphisms at the singularity. We first conjugate formally its associated reversible map $σ$ to suitable normal forms and show that all these normal forms can be divergent. If the singularity is {\it abelian}, we show, under some assumptions on the linea…
We study a germ of real analytic n-dimensional submanifold of $C^n$ that has a complex tangent space of maximal dimension at a CR singularity. Under the condition that its complexification admits the maximum number of deck transformations, we first classify holomorphically its quadratic CR singularity. We then study its transformation to a normal form under the action of local (possibly formal) biholomorphisms at the singularity. We first conjugate formally its associated reversible map $σ$ to suitable normal forms and show that all these normal forms can be divergent. We then construct a uniq…
