For finite nilpotent groups $G$ and $G^{\prime}$, and a $G$-adapted ring $S$ (the rational integers, for example), it is shown that any isomorphism between the centers of the group rings $SG$ and $SG^{\prime}$ is monomial, i.e., maps class sums in $SG$ to class sums in $SG^{\prime}$ up to multiplication with roots of unity. As a consequence, $G$ and $G^{\prime}$ have identical character tables if and only if the centers of their integral group rings $\mathbb{Z} G$ and $\mathbb{Z} G^{\prime}$ are isomorphic. In the course of the proof, a new proof of the class sum correspondence is given.
In this note, we present a notion of species isomorphism for fibered Burnside rings. We prove that a species isomorphism can be restricted to an isomorphism of mark tables, that it can be extended to an isomorphism between the ghost rings and we provide three additional characterizations of this concept.
Similarly to how the classical group ring isomorphism problem asks, for a commutative ring $R$, which information about a finite group $G$ is encoded in the group ring $RG$, the twisted group ring isomorphism problem asks which information about $G$ is encoded in all the twisted group rings of $G$ over $R$. We investigate this problem over fields. We start with abelian groups and show how the results depend on the roots of unity in $R$. In order to deal with non-abelian groups we construct a generalization of a Schur cover which exists also when $R$ is not an algebraically closed field, but st…
The Subgroup Isomorphism Problem for Integral Group Rings asks for which finite groups U it is true that if U is isomorphic to a subgroup of V(ZG), the group of normalized units of the integral group ring of the finite group G, it must be isomorphic to a subgroup of G. The smallest groups known not to satisfy this property are the counterexamples to the Isomorphism Problem constructed by M. Hertweck. However the only groups known to satisfy it are cyclic groups of prime power order and elementary-abelian p-groups of rank 2. We prove the Subgroup Isomorphism Problem for C_4 x C_2. Moreover we p…
Firstly, we give a partial solution to the isomorphism problem for uniserial modules of finite length with the help of the morphisms between these modules over an arbitrary ring. Later, under suitable assumptions on the lattice of the submodules, we give a method to partially solve the isomorphism problem for uniserial modules over an arbitrary ring. Particular attention is given to the natural class of uniserial modules defined over algebras given by quivers.
We continue our investigation of a variation of the group ring isomorphism problem for twisted group algebras. Contrary to previous work, we include cohomology classes which do not contain any cocycle of finite order. This allows us to study the problem in particular over any field of characteristic $0$. We prove that there are finite groups $G$ and $H$ which can not be distinguished by their rational twisted group algebras, while $G$ and $H$ can be identified by their semi-simple twisted group algebras over other fields. This is in contrast with the fact that the structural information on $G$…
We establish ring isomorphisms between quantum Grothendieck rings of certain remarkable monoidal categories of finite-dimensional representations of quantum affine algebras of types $A_{2n-1}^{(1)}$ and $B_n^{(1)}$. Our proof relies in part on the corresponding quantum cluster algebra structures. Moreover, we prove that our isomorphisms specialize at $t = 1$ to the isomorphisms of (classical) Grothendieck rings obtained recently by Kashiwara, Kim and Oh by other methods. As a consequence, we prove a conjecture formulated by the first author in 2002 : the multiplicities of simple modules in sta…
We consider three types of rings of supersymmetric polynomials: polynomial ones $Λ_{m,n}$, partially polynomial $Λ_{m,n}^{+y}$ and Laurent supersymmetric rings $Λ_{m,n}^{\pm}$. For each type of rings we give their descriptions in terms of generators and relations. As a corollary we get for $n\ge m$ an isomorphism $Λ_{m,n}^{+y}=Λ_{m,m}^{+y}\otimesΛ^{+y}_{0,n-m}$. We also have the same sort of isomorphism for polynomial rings, but in this case the isomorphism does not preserve the grading. For each type of rings we also construct some natural basis consisting of Euler characters.
An adjoint Chevalley group of rank at least 2 over a rational algebra (or a similar ring), its elementary subgroup, and the corresponding Lie ring have the same automorphism group. These automorphisms are explicitly described.
We describe the generalized Matsuda's theorem, and some results of a Burnside ring extend a partial Burnside ring. In particular, we give isomorphism between partial Burnside rings of different groups. Moreover, we consider the relationship between image of Frobenius-Wielandt homomorphism, a partial Burnside ring, and structure of a group.
Let ($\mathfrak{g},\mathsf{g})$ be a pair of complex finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras whose Dynkin diagrams are related by (un)folding, with $\mathsf{g}$ being of simply-laced type. We construct a collection of ring isomorphisms between the quantum Grothendieck rings of monoidal categories $\mathscr{C}_{\mathfrak{g}}$ and $\mathscr{C}_{\mathsf{g}}$ of finite-dimensional representations over the quantum loop algebras of $\mathfrak{g}$ and $\mathsf{g}$ respectively. As a consequence, we solve long-standing problems : the positivity of the analogs of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials and the posi…
An isomorphism between the group ring of a finite group and a ring of certain block diagonal matrices is established. The group ring $RG$ of a finite group $G$ is isomorphic to the set of {\em group ring matrices} over $R$. It is shown that for any group ring matrix $A$ of $\mathbb{C} G$ there exists a matrix $P$ (independent of the entries of $A$) such that $P^{-1}AP= \text{diag}(T_1,T_2,\ldots, T_r)$ for block matrices $T_i$ of fixed size $s_i\times s_i$ where $r$ is the number of conjugacy classes of $G$ and $s_i$ are the ranks of the group ring matrices of the primitive idempotents. Using …
The $K$-homology ring of the affine Grassmannian of $SL_n(C)$ was studied by Lam, Schilling, and Shimozono. It is realized as a certain concrete Hopf subring of the ring of symmetric functions. On the other hand, for the quantum $K$-theory of the flag variety $Fl_n$, Kirillov and Maeno provided a conjectural presentation based on the results obtained by Givental and Lee. We construct an explicit birational morphism between the spectrums of these two rings. Our method relies on Ruijsenaars's relativistic Toda lattice with unipotent initial condition. From this result, we obtain a $K$-theory ana…
In a 1983 paper the author has established a (decategorified) Satake equivalence for affine Hecke algebras. In this paper we give new proofs for some results of that paper, one based on the theory of J-rings and one based on the known character formula for rational representations of a reductive group in positive, large, characteristic. We also give an extension of that character formula to disconnected groups.
Let G be a semisimple algebraic group over a field K whose characteristic is very good for G, and let sigma be any G-equivariant isomorphism from the nilpotent variety to the unipotent variety; the map sigma is known as a Springer isomorphism. Let y in G(K), let Y in Lie(G)(K), and write C_y = C_G(y) and C_Y= C_G(Y) for the centralizers. We show that the center of C_y and the center of C_Y are smooth group schemes over K. The existence of a Springer isomorphism is used to treat the crucial cases where y is unipotent and where Y is nilpotent. Now suppose G to be quasisplit, and write C for the …
For a simple Lie algebra g we consider an analogue of the affine algebra ^gk with n singularities, defined starting from the ring of functions on the n-pointed disk. We study the center of its completed enveloping algebra and prove an analogue of the Feigin-Frenkel theorem in this setting. In particular, we first give an algebraic description of the center by providing explicit topological generators; we then characterize the center geometrically as the ring of functions on the space of G^L-Opers over the n-pointed disk. Finally, we prove some factorization properties of our isomorphism, thus …
We study the center of the pro-p Iwahori-Hecke ring H of a connected split p-adic reductive group G. For k an algebraically closed field with characteristic p, we prove that the center of the k-algebra H_k:= H\otimes_Z k contains an affine semigroup algebra which is naturally isomorphic to the Hecke algebra attached to any irreducible smooth k-representation of a given hyperspecial maximal compact subgroup of G. This isomorphism is obtained using the inverse Satake isomorphism constructed in arXiv:1207.5557. We apply this to classify the simple supersingular H_k-modules, study the supersingula…
We describe the center of the ring $\Diff(n)$ of $\h$-deformed differential operators of type A. We establish an isomorphism between certain localizations of $\Diff(n)$ and the Weyl algebra $\text{W}_n$ extended by $n$ indeterminates.
We propose a new geometric model for the center of the small quantum group using the cohomology of certain affine Springer fibers. More precisely, we establish an isomorphism between the equivariant cohomology of affine Spaltenstein fibers for a split element and the center of the deformed graded modules for the small quantum group. We also obtain an embedding from the invariant part of the nonequivariant cohomology under the action of the extended affine Weyl group to the invariant part of the center of the small quantum group under Langlands dual group action, which we conjecture to be an is…
Let $k$ be a finite field of characteristic $p$, and $G$ a compact $p$-adic analytic group. Write $kG$ for the completed group ring of $G$ over $k$. In this paper, we describe the structure of the ring $kG/P$, where $P$ is a minimal prime ideal of $kG$. We give an isomorphism between $kG/P$ and a matrix ring with coefficients in the ring $(k'G')_α$, where $k'/k$ is a finite field extension, $G'$ is a large subquotient of $G$ with no finite normal subgroups, and $(-)_α$ is a "twisting" operation that preserves several desirable properties of the ring structure. We demonstrate an application of …
We introduce a commutative associative graded algebra structure on the direct sum Z of the centers of the Hecke algebras associated to the symmetric groups in n letters for all n. As a natural deformation of the classical construction of Frobenius, we establish an algebra isomorphism from the algebra Z to the ring of symmetric functions. This isomorphism provides an identification between several distinguished bases for the centers (introduced by Geck-Rouquier, Jones, Lascoux) and explicit bases of symmetric functions.
Let X be a complex smooth affine irreducible curve, and let D = D(X) be the ring of global differential operators on X. In this paper, we give a geometric classification of left ideals in $ D $ and study the natural action of the Picard group of D on the space J(D) of isomorphism classes of such ideals. We recall that, up to isomorphism in the Grothendieck group K_0(D), the ideals of D are classified by the Picard group of X: there is a natural fibration γ: J(D) \to Pic(X), whose fibres are the stable isomorphism classes of ideals of D (see \cite{BW}). In this paper, we refine this classificat…
