Austere submanifolds and arid submanifolds constitute respectively two different classes of minimal submanifolds in finite dimensional Riemannian manifolds. In this paper we introduce these two notions into a class of proper Fredholm (PF) submanifolds in Hilbert spaces, discuss their relation and show examples of infinite dimensional austere PF submanifolds and arid PF submanifolds in Hilbert spaces. We also mention a classification problem of minimal orbits in hyperpolar PF actions on Hilbert spaces.

We classify 4-dimensional austere submanifolds in Euclidean space ruled by 2-planes. The algebraic possibilities for second fundamental forms of an austere 4-fold M were classified by Bryant, falling into three types which we label A, B, and C. We show that for any weakly reflective submanifold of a compact isotropy irreducible Riemannian homogeneous space its inverse image under the parallel transport map is an infinite dimensional weakly reflective PF submanifold of a Hilbert space. In this paper, we investigate properties of orbits of Hermann actions as submanifolds without assuming the commutability of involutions which define Hermann actions. In particular, we compute the second fundamental form of orbits of Hermann action, and give a sufficient condition for orbits of Hermann action to be weakly reflective (resp. arid) submanifolds.
