We consider a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) on a lattice
\partial_t X=(Δ-m^2)X-λX^p+ηwhere $η$ is a space-time Lévy noise. A perturbative (in the sense of formal power series) strong solution is given by a tree expansion, whereas the correlation functions of the solution are given by a perturbative expansion with coefficients that are represented as sums over a certain class of graphs, called Parisi-Wu graphs. The perturbative expansion of the truncated (connected) correlation functions is obtained via a Linked Cluster Theorem as a sums over connected graphs only. The moments of the stationary solution can be calculated as well. In all these solutions the cumulants of the single site distribution of the noise enter as multiplicative constants. To determine them, e.g. by comparison with a empirical correlation function, one can fit these constants (e.g. by the methods of least squares) and thereby one (approximately) determines law of the noise.
After establishing the moderate deviation principle by the Classical Azencott method, we prove the Strassen's compact law of the iterated logarithm (LIL) for a class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs). As an application, we obtain this type of LIL for two population models known as super-Brownian motion and Fleming-Viot process. In addition, the classical LIL is shown for the class of SPDEs and the two population models.
In this paper, we focus on the existence of the density for the law of the solutions to parabolic stochastic partial differential equations with two reflecting walls. The main tool is Malliavin calculus.
We prove uniqueness in law for a class of parabolic stochastic partial differential equations in an interval driven by a functional A(u) of the temperature u times a space-time white noise. The functional A(u) is Hölder continuous in u of order greater than 1/2. Our method involves looking at an associated system of infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equations and we obtain a uniqueness result for such systems.
In this article, we prove integration by parts formulae (IbPFs) for the laws of Bessel bridges from 0 to 0 over the interval [0,1] of dimension smaller than 3. As an application, we construct a weak version of an SPDE having the law of a one-dimensional Bessel bridge (i.e. the law of a reflected Brownian bridge) as reversible measure, the dimension 1 being particularly relevant in view of applications to scaling limits of dynamical critical pinning models. We also exploit the IbPFs to conjecture the structure of the SPDEs associated with Bessel bridges of all dimensions smaller than 3.
In this article, we consider the quasi-linear stochastic wave and heat equations on the real line and with an additive Gaussian noise which is white in time and behaves in space like a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (0,1)$. The drift term is assumed to be globally Lipschitz. We prove that the solution of each of the above equations is continuous in terms of the index $H$, with respect to the convergence in law in the space of continuous functions.
In this article, we consider the one-dimensional stochastic wave and heat equations driven by a linear multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white in time and behaves in space like a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (\frac 14,1)$. We prove that the solution of each of the above equations is continuous in terms of the index $H$, with respect to the convergence in law in the space of continuous functions. The proof is based on a tightness criterion on the plane and Malliavin calculus techniques in order to identify the limit law.
In this paper, we develop a new method to obtain the accessibility of stochastic partial differential equations driven by additive pure jump noise. An important novelty of this paper is to allow the driving noises to be degenerate. As an application, for the first time, we obtain the accessibility of a class of stochastic equations driven by pure jump degenerate noise, which cover 2D stochastic Navier-Stokes equations, stochastic Burgers type equations, singular stochastic p-Laplace equations, stochastic fast diffusion equations, etc. As a further application, we establish the ergodicity of si…
Using our uniqueness in law transfer result for SPDEs, described in a recent note, we prove the equivalence of laws of SPDEs differing by a drift, under vastly applicable conditions. This gives us the equivalence in the compact support property among a large class of SPDEs. As an important application, we prove the equivalence in law of the Allen-Cahn and the associated heat SPDEs; and we give a criterion for the compact support property to hold for the Allen-Cahn SPDE with diffusion function $a(t,x,u)=Cu^γ$, with $C\ne0$ and $ 1/2\leγ<1$.
In this paper, we show that the exponential integrator scheme both in spatial discretization and time discretization for a class of stochastic partial differential equations has a unique stationary distribution whenever the stepsize is sufficiently small, and reveal that the weak limit of the law for the exponential integrator scheme is in fact the counterpart for the stochastic partial differential equation considered.
We start by first using change of measure to prove the transfer of uniqueness in law among pairs of parabolic SPDEs differing only by a drift function, under an almost sure $L^2$ condition on the drift/diffusion ratio. This is a considerably weaker condition than the usual Novikov one, and it allows us to prove uniqueness in law for the Allen-Cahn SPDE driven by space-time white noise with diffusion function $a(t,x,u)=Cu^γ$, $1/2\leγ\le1$ and $C\ne0$. The same transfer result is also valid for ordinary SDEs and hyperbolic SPDEs.
In this paper we show that the Cahn-Hilliard stochastic SPDE has a function valued solution in dimension 4 and 5 when the perturbation is driven by a space-correlated Gaussian noise. This is done proving general results on SPDEs with globally Lipschitz coefficients associated with operators on smooth domains of $\mathbb{R}^d$ which are parabolic in the sense of Petrovskii}, and do not necessarily define a semi-group of operators. We study the regularity of the trajectories of the solutions and the absolute continuity of the law at some given time and position.
We prove a Kramers-type law for metastable transition times for a class of one-dimensional parabolic stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with bistable potential. The expected transition time between local minima of the potential energy depends exponentially on the energy barrier to overcome, with an explicit prefactor related to functional determinants. Our results cover situations where the functional determinants vanish owing to a bifurcation, thereby rigorously proving the results of formal computations announced in [Berglund and Gentz, J. Phys. A 42:052001 (2009)]. The proofs…
In this paper we consider a general class of second order stochastic partial differential equations on $\mathbb{R}^d$ driven by a Gaussian noise which is white in time and it has a homogeneous spatial covariance. Using the techniques of Malliavin calculus we derive the smoothness of the density of the solution at a fixed number of points $(t,x_1), \dots, (t,x_n)$, $t>0$, assuming some suitable regularity and non degeneracy assumptions. We also prove that the density is strictly positive in the interior of the support of the law.
For the class of stochastic partial differential equations studied in [Conus-Dalang,2008], we prove the existence of density of the probability law of the solution at a given point $(t,x)$, and that the density belongs to some Besov space. The proof relies on the method developed in [Debussche-Romito, 2014]. The result can be applied to the solution of the stochastic wave equation with multiplicative noise, Lipschitz coefficients and any spatial dimension $d\ge 1$, and also to the heat equation. This provides an extension of the results proved in [Sanz-Solé and Süß, 2013].
We consider a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) which describes the velocity field of a viscous, incompressible non-Newtonian fluid subject to a random force. Here the extra stress tensor of the fluid is given by a polynomial of degree $p-1$ of the rate of strain tensor, while the colored noise is considered as a random force. We investigate the existence and the uniqueness of weak solutions to this SPDE.
Consider a random process s solution of the stochastic partial differential equation Ls = w with L a homogeneous operator and w a multidimensional Lévy white noise. In this paper, we study the asymptotic effect of zooming in or zooming out of the process s. More precisely, we give sufficient conditions on L and w so that the rescaled versions of s converges in law to a self-similar process of order H at coarse scales and at fine scales. The parameter H depends on the homogeneity order of the operator L and the Blumenthal-Getoor indices associated to the Lévy white noise w. Finally, we apply ou…
Generalizing the L-Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (L-KS) kernel from our earlier work, we give a novel explicit-kernel formulation useful for a large class of fourth order deterministic, stochastic, linear, and nonlinear PDEs in multispatial dimensions. These include pattern formation equations like the Swift-Hohenberg and many other prominent and new PDEs. We first establish existence, uniqueness, and sharp dimension-dependent spatio-temporal Hölder regularity for the canonical (zero drift) L-KS SPDE, driven by white noise on $\{\Rp\times\Rd\}_{d=1}^{3}$. The spatio-temporal Hölder exponents are exactl…
In this paper, we extend Walsh's stochastic integral with respect to a Gaussian noise, white in time and with some homogeneous spatial correlation, in order to be able to integrate some random measure-valued processes. This extension turns out to be equivalent to Dalang's one. Then we study existence and regularity of the density of the probability law for the real-valued mild solution to a general second order stochastic partial differential equation driven by such a noise. For this, we apply the techniques of the Malliavin calculus. Our results apply to the case of the stochastic heat equati…
Upon its inception the theory of regularity structures allowed for the treatment for many semilinear perturbations of the stochastic heat equation driven by space-time white noise. When the driving noise is non-Gaussian the machinery of theory can still be used but must be combined with an infinite number of stochastic estimates in order to compensate for the loss of hypercontractivity. In this paper we obtain a more streamlined and automatic set of criteria implying these estimates which facilitates the treatment of some other problems including non-Gaussian noise such as some general phase c…
We prove an explicit formula for the law in zero of the solution of a class of elliptic SPDE in $\mathbb{R}^2$. This formula is the simplest instance of dimensional reduction, discovered in the physics literature by Parisi and Sourlas (1979), which links the law of an elliptic SPDE in $d + 2$ dimension with a Gibbs measure in $d$ dimensions. This phenomenon is similar to the relation between an $\mathbb{R}^{d + 1}$ dimensional parabolic SPDE and its $\mathbb{R}^d$ dimensional invariant measure. As such, dimensional reduction of elliptic SPDEs can be considered a sort of elliptic stochastic qua…
The solution of a parabolic stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) driven by an infinite-dimensional Brownian motion is in general not a semi-martingale anymore and does in general not satisfy an Itô formula like the solution of a finite-dimensional stochastic ordinary differential equation (SODE). In particular, it is not possible to derive stochastic Taylor expansions as for the solution of a SODE using an iterated application of the Itô formula. Consequently, until recently, only low order numerical approximation results for such a SPDE have been available. Here, the fact that the …
In this paper we study a class of stochastic partial differential equations in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^{d}$, with arbitrary dimension $d\geq 1$, driven by a Gaussian noise white in time and correlated in space. The differential operator is a fractional derivative operator. We show the existence, uniqueness and Hölder's regularity of the solution. Then by means of Malliavin calculus, we prove that the law of the solution has a smooth density with respect to the Lebesgue measure.
Motivated by Girsanov's nonuniqueness examples for SDEs, we prove nonuniqueness for the parabolic stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) \[\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}=\fracΔ{2}u(t,x) +\bigl|u(t,x)\bigr|^γ\dot{W}(t,x),\qquad u(0,x)=0.\] Here $\dot{W}$ is a space-time white noise on ${\mathbb {R}}_+\times {\mathbb {R}}$. More precisely, we show the above stochastic PDE has a nonzero solution for $0<γ<3/4$. Since $u(t,x)=0$ solves the equation, it follows that solutions are neither unique in law nor pathwise unique. An analogue of Yamada-Watanabe's famous theorem for SDEs was recently …
We study Malliavin differentiability of solutions to sub-critical singular parabolic stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) and we prove the existence of densities for a class of singular SPDEs. Both of these results are implemented in the setting of regularity structures. For this we construct renormalized models in situations where some of the driving noises are replaced by deterministic Cameron-Martin functions, and we show Lipschitz continuity of these models with respect to the Cameron-Martin norm. In particular, in many interesting situations we obtain a convergence and stabil…
We consider the family of stochastic partial differential equations indexed by a parameter $\eps\in(0,1]$, \begin{equation*} Lu^{\eps}(t,x) = \epsσ(u^\eps(t,x))\dot{F}(t,x)+b(u^\eps(t,x)), \end{equation*} $(t,x)\in(0,T]\times\Rd$ with suitable initial conditions. In this equation, $L$ is a second-order partial differential operator with constant coefficients, $σ$ and $b$ are smooth functions and $\dot{F}$ is a Gaussian noise, white in time and with a stationary correlation in space. Let $p^\eps_{t,x}$ denote the density of the law of $u^\eps(t,x)$ at a fixed point $(t,x)\in(0,T]\times\Rd$. We …
The main goal of this article is to study the effect of small, highly nonlinear, unbounded drifts (small time large deviation principle (LDP) based on exponential equivalence arguments) for a class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with fully monotone coefficients driven by multiplicative Gaussian noise. The small time LDP obtained in this paper is applicable for various quasi-linear and semilinear SPDEs such as porous medium equations, Cahn-Hilliard equation, 2D Navier-Stokes equations, convection-diffusion equation, 2D liquid crystal model, power law fluids, Ladyzhenskaya …
In this paper, we consider a quasi-linear stochastic heat equation on $[0,1]$, with Dirichlet boundary conditions and controlled by the space-time white noise. We formally replace the random perturbation by a family of noisy inputs depending on a parameter $n\in \mathbb{N}$ such that approximate the white noise in some sense. Then, we provide sufficient conditions ensuring that the real-valued {\it mild} solution of the SPDE perturbed by this family of noises converges in law, in the space $\mathcal{C}([0,T]\times [0,1])$ of continuous functions, to the solution of the white noise driven SPDE.…
We establish the dual notions of scaling and saturation from geometric control theory in an infinite-dimensional setting. This generalization is applied to the low-mode control problem in a number of concrete nonlinear partial differential equations. We also develop applications concerning associated classes of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs). In particular, we study the support properties of probability laws corresponding to these SPDEs as well as provide applications concerning the ergodic and mixing properties of invariant measures for these stochastic systems.
