We study the coadjoint representation of contractions of reductive Lie algebras associated with symmetric decompositions. Let $\frak g=\frak g_0\oplus \frak g_1$ be a symmetric decomposition of a reductive Lie algebra $\frak g$. Then the semi-direct product of $\frak g_0$ and the $\frak g_0$-module $\frak g_1$ is a contraction of $\frak g$. We conjecture that these contractions have many properties in common with reductive Lie algebras. In particular, it is proved that in many cases the algebra of invariants is polynomial. We also discuss the so-called "codim--2 property" for coadjoint representations and its relationship with the structure of algebra of invariants.
The purpose of this paper is to apply deformation quantization to the study of the coadjoint orbit method in the case of real reductive groups. We first prove some general results on the existence of equivariant deformation quantization of vector bundles on closed Lagrangian subvarieties, which lie in smooth symplectic varieties with Hamiltonian group actions. Then we apply them to orbit method and construct nontrivial irreducible Harish-Chandra modules for certain coadjoint orbits. Our examples include new geometric construction of representations associated to certain orbits of real exceptio…
We show that the numbers of nilpotent coadjoint orbits in the dual of exceptional Lie algebra $G_2$ in characteristic $3$ and in the dual of exceptional Lie algebra $F_4$ in characteristic $2$ are finite. We determine the closure relation among nilpotent coadjoint orbits in the dual of Lie algebras of type $B,C,F_4$ in characteristic $2$ and in the dual of Lie algebra of type $G_2$ in characteristic $3$. In each case we give an explicit description of the nilpotent pieces in the dual defined in \cite{CP}, which are in general unions of nilpotent coadjoint orbits, coincide with the earlier case…
We propose a general framework to contract unitary dual of Lie groups via holomorphic quantization of their co-adjoint orbits. The sufficient condition for the contractability of a representation is expressed via cocycles on coadjoint orbits. This condition is checked explicitly for the contraction of ${\mathrm SU}_2$ into $\mathbb{H}$. The main tool is the geometric quantization. We construct two types of contractions that can be implemented on every matrix Lie group with diagonal contraction matrix.
Attached to any reductive Lie group $G$ is a "Cartan motion group" $G_0$ $-$ a Lie group with the same dimension as $G$, but a simpler group structure. A natural one-to-one correspondence between the irreducible tempered representations of $G$ and the unitary irreducible representations of $G_0$, whose existence had been suggested by Mackey in the 1970s, has recently been described by the author. In the present notes, we use the existence of a family of groups interpolating between $G$ and $G_0$ to realize the bijection as a deformation: for every irreducible tempered representation $π$ of G, …
Let $G$ be connected reductive algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p > 0$ and suppose that $p$ is a good prime for the root system of $G$, the derived subgroup of $G$ is simply connected and the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g} = \operatorname{Lie}(G)$ admits a non-degenerate Ad$(G)$-invariant symmetric bilinear form. Given a linear function $χ$ on $\mathfrak{g}$ we denote by $U_χ(\mathfrak{g})$ the reduced enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{g}$ associated with $χ$. By the Kac-Weisfeiler conjecture (now a theorem), any irreducible $U_χ(\mathfrak{g})$-module has…
The groups mentioned in the title are certain matrix groups of infinite size over a finite field $\mathbb F_q$. They are built from finite classical groups and at the same time they are similar to reductive $p$-adic Lie groups. In the present paper, we initiate the study of invariant measures for the coadjoint action of these infinite-dimensional groups. We examine first the group $\mathbb{GLB}$, a topological completion of the inductive limit group $\varinjlim GL(n, \mathbb F_q)$. As was shown by Gorin, Kerov, and Vershik [arXiv:1209.4945], the traceable factor representations of $\mathbb{GLB…
The notion of "Weierstrass Section", comes from Weierstrass canonical form for elliptic curves. In celebrated work [B. Kostant, Lie group representations on polynomial rings, Amer. J. Math. 85 (1963), 327-404] constructed such a section for the action of a semisimple Lie algebra on its dual using a principal s-triple. Actually it is enough to have an "adapted pair" and indeed the construction in [A. Joseph and D. Shafrir, Polynomiality of invariants, unimodularity and adapted pairs, Transform. Groups 15 (2010), no. 4, 851-882] works rather well for the coadjoint action of an algebraic, but not…
The symmetric algebra $S(\mathfrak g)$ of a reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ is equipped with the standard Poisson structure, i.e., the Lie-Poisson bracket. Poisson-commutative subalgebras of $S(\mathfrak g)$ attract a great deal of attention, because of their relationship to integrable systems and, more recently, to geometric representation theory. The transcendence degree of a Poisson-commutative subalgebra ${\mathcal C}\subset S(\mathfrak g)$ is bounded by the "magic number" $\boldsymbol{b}(\mathfrak g)$ of $\mathfrak g$. The "argument shift method" of Mishchenko-Fomenko was basically th…
