We construct normal forms for Levi degenerate hypersurfaces of finite type in $\mathbb C^2$. As one consequence, an explicit solution to the problem of local biholomorphic equivalence is obtained. Another consequence determines the dimension of the stability group of the hypersurface.
Locally homogeneous strictly pseudoconvex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$ were classified by E.\,Cartan in 1932. In this work, we complete the classification of locally homogeneous strictly pseudoconvex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^3$.
In this article, we consider $\mathcal{C}^\infty$-smooth real hypersurfaces of infinite type in $\mathbb C^2$. The purpose of this paper is to give explicit descriptions for stability groups of the hypersurface $M(a,α,p,q)$ (see Sec. $1$) and a radially symmetric hypersurface in $\mathbb C^2$.
In this paper, we discuss germs of smooth hypersurface in $\mathbb C^n$. We show that if a point on the boundary has infinite D'Angelo type, then there exists a formal complex curve in the hypersurface through that point.
We show that if the Segre varieties of a strictly pseudoconvex hypersurface in $\mathbb{C}^2$ are extremal discs for the Kobayashi metric, then that hypersurface has to be locally spherical. In particular, this gives yet another characterization of the unit sphere in terms of two important invariant families of objects coinciding.
Recently, I. Kossovskiy and R. Shafikov have settled the so-called Dimension Conjecture, which characterizes spherical hypersurfaces in ${\mathbb C}^2$ via the dimension of the algebra of infinitesimal automorphisms. In this note, we propose a short argument for obtaining their result.
The purpose of this article is to prove that there exists a real smooth pseudoconvex hypersurface germ $(M,p)$ of D'Angelo infinite type in $\mathbb C^{n+1}$ such that it does not admit any (singular) holomorphic curve in $\mathbb C^{n+1}$ tangent to $M$ at $p$ to infinite order.
The Chern-Moser normal form and its analog on finite type hypersurfaces in general do not respect symmetries. Extending the work of N. K. Stanton, we consider the local equivalence problem for symmetric Levi degenerate hypersurfaces of finite type in $\mathbb C^2$. The results give for all such hypersurfaces a complete normalization which respects the symmetries. In particular, they apply to tubes and rigid hypersurfaces, providing an effective classification. The main tool is a complete normal form constructed for a general hypersurface with a tube model. As an application, we describe all bi…
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a codimension one holomorphic foliation in $\mathbb{P}^n$, $n\geq 2$, leaving invariant a real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurface $M$ with regular part $M^{*}$. Then every leaf of $\mathcal{F}$ outside $\overline{M^{*}}$ accumulates in $\overline{M^{*}}$.
We show that the boundary of any bounded strongly pseudoconvex complete circular domain in $\mathbb C^2$ must contain points that are exceptionally tangent to a projective image of the unit sphere.
In this article we prove a sufficient condition of quasi-normality in higher dimension for a family of meromorphic mappings in which each pair of functions of family shares some moving hypersurfaces. We also prove a normality criterion concerning shared moving hypersurfaces.
We consider hypersurfaces of finite type in a direct product space ${\mathbb R}^2 \times {\mathbb R}^2$, which are analogues to real hypersurfaces of finite type in ${\mathbb C}^2$. We shall consider separately the cases where such hypersurfaces are regular and singular, in a sense that corresponds to Levi degeneracy in hypersurfaces in ${\mathbb C}^2$. For the regular case, we study formal normal forms and prove convergence by following Chern and Moser. The normal form of such an hypersurface, considered as the solution manifold of a 2nd order ODE, gives rise to a normal form of the correspon…
We compute the exact norms of the Leray transforms for a family $\mathcal{S}_β$ of unbounded hypersurfaces in two complex dimensions. The $\mathcal{S}_β$ generalize the Heisenberg group, and provide local projective approximations to any smooth, strongly $\mathbb{C}$-convex hypersurface $\mathcal{S}_β$ to two orders of tangency. This work is then examined in the context of projective dual $CR$-structures and the corresponding pair of canonical dual Hardy spaces associated to $\mathcal{S}_β$, leading to a universal description of the Leray transform and a factorization of the transform through …
We study normal forms of germs of singular real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces. We prove the existence of rigid normal forms for singular Levi-flat hypersurfaces which are defined by the vanishing of the real part of complex quasi-homogeneous polynomials with isolated singularity. This result generalizes previous results of Burns-Gong and Fernández-Pérez. Furthermore, we prove the existence of two new rigid normal forms for singular real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces which are preserved by a change of isochore coordinates, that is, a change of coordinates that preserves volume.
We study local rigidity properties of holomorphic embeddings of real hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$ into real hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^3$ and show that infinitesimal conditions imply actual local rigidity in a number of (important) cases. We use this to show that generic embeddings into a hyperquadric in $\mathbb C^3$ are locally rigid.
We prove the existence of normal forms for some local real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces with an isolated line singularity. We also give sufficient conditions for that a Levi-flat hypersurface with a complex line as singularity to be a pullback of a real-analytic curve in C via a holomorphic function.
We study the holomorphic equivalence problem for finite type hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$. We discover a geometric condition, which is sufficient for the existence of a natural convergent normal form for a finite type hypersurface. We also provide an explicit construction of such a normal form. As an application, we construct a canonical connection for a large class of finite type hypersurfaces. To the best of our knowledge, this gives the first construction of an invariant connection for Levi-degenerate hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$.
In this article, we establish a truncated non-integrated defect relation for meromorphic mappings from an $m$-dimensional complete Kähler manifold into $\mathbb P^n(\mathbb C)$ intersecting $q$ hypersurfaces $Q_1,...,Q_q$ in $k$-subgeneral position of degree $d_i$, i.e., the intersection of any $k+1$ hypersurfaces is emptyset. We will prove that $$ \sum_{i=1}^qδ_f^{[u-1]}(Q_i)\le (k-n+1)(n+1)+ε+\frac{ρu(u-1)}{d}, $$ where $u$ is explicitly estimated and $d$ is the least common multiple of $d_i'$s. Our result generalizes and improves previous results. In the last part of this paper we will appl…
We introduce new biholomorphic invariants for real-analytic hypersurfaces in 2-dimensional complex space and show how they can be used to show that a hypersurface possesses few automorphisms. We give conditions, in terms of the new invariants, guaranteeing that the stability group is finite, and give (sharp) bounds on the cardinality of the stability group in this case. We also give a sufficient condition for the stability group to be trivial. The main technical tool developed in this paper is a complete (formal) normal form for a certain class of hypersurfaces. As a byproduct, a complete clas…
In this paper we denote a type of affine homogeneous real hypersurface of $\mathbb{C}^3$ and present a classification of homogeneous surfaces of the type (1/2,0). The result was obtained by reducing the classification problem mentioned above to the problem of solving a system of nonlinear (quadratic) equations. Solutions of such system represent all the Lie algebras corresponding to the homogeneous surfaces under consideration. Some details of integration procedure are discussed for obtained algebras.
We prove that the normal bundle to the Levi foliation of a smooth Levi flat hypersurface does not admit a Hermitian metric with positive curvature along the leaves in compact Kähler manifolds of dimension at least 3. This represents an answer to a conjecture of Marco Brunella.
We prove that every smooth rigid spherical hypersurface in ${\mathbb C}^2$ is in fact real-analytic. As an application of this result, it follows that the classification of real-analytic rigid spherical hypersurfaces in ${\mathbb C}^2$ found by V. Ezhov and G. Schmalz applies in the smooth case.
We develop a classification theory for real-analytic hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$ in the case when the hypersurface is of {\em infinite type} at the reference point. This is the remaining, not yet understood case in $\mathbb C^2$ in the {\it Problème local}, formulated by H.\,Poincaré in 1907 and asking for a complete biholomorphic classification of real hypersurfaces in complex space. One novel aspect of our results, appearing in this revised version, is a notion of {\em smooth normal forms} for real-analytic hypersurfaces. We rely fundamentally on the recently developed CR -- DS technique …
We establish compactness estimates for $\overline{\partial}_{b}$ on a compact pseudoconvex CR-submanifold of $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ of hypersurface type that satisfies property(P). When the submanifold is orientable, these estimates were proved by A.~Raich via microlocal methods. Our proof deduces the estimates from (a slight extension, when $q>1$, of) those known on hypersurfaces via the fact that locally, CR-submanifolds of hypersurface type are CR-equivalent to a hypersurface. The relationship between two potential theoretic conditions is also clarified.
We investigate regularity of CR-mappings between real-analytic infinite type hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$. We show that, under the Fuchsian type condition, all (respectively formal or smooth) CR-diffeomorphisms between them are automatically analytic. The Fuchsian condition appears to be in a certain sense optimal for the regularity problem.
Holomorphically homogeneous CR real hypersurfaces $M^3 \subset \mathbb{C}^2$ were classified by Élie Cartan in 1932. In the next dimension, we complete the classification of simply-transitive Levi non-degenerate hypersurfaces $M^5 \subset \mathbb{C}^3$ using a novel Lie algebraic approach independent of any earlier classifications of abstract Lie algebras. Central to our approach is a new coordinate-free formula for the fundamental (complexified) quartic tensor. Our final result has a unique (Levi-indefinite) non-tubular model, for which we demonstrate geometric relations to planar equi-affine…
We construct a complete convergent normal form for a real hypersurface in $\CC{N},\,N\geq 2$ at generic Levi degeneracy. This seems to be the first convergent normal form for a Levi-degenerate hypersurface. In particular, we obtain, in the spirit of the work of Chern and Moser \cite{chern}, distinguished curves in the Levi degeneracy set, that we call \it degenerate chains.
We investigate the complex analytic structure of the complement of a non-singular hypersurface with unitary flat normal bundle when the corresponding line bundle admits a Hermitian metric with semipositive curvature.
In this paper we prove that every smooth complete closed complex hypersurface in the open unit ball $\mathbb{B}_n$ of $\mathbb{C}^n$ $(n\ge 2)$ is a level set of a noncritical holomorphic function on $\mathbb{B}_n$ all of whose level sets are complete. This shows that $\mathbb{B}_n$ admits a nonsingular holomorphic foliation by smooth complete closed complex hypersurfaces and, what is the main point, that every hypersurface in $\mathbb{B}_n$ of this type can be embedded into such a foliation. We establish a more general result in which neither completeness nor smoothness of the given hypersurf…
The objective of this article is to give an effective algebraic characterization of normal crossing hypersurfaces in complex manifolds. It is shown that a hypersurface has normal crossings if and only if it is a free divisor, has a radical Jacobian ideal and a smooth normalization. Using K. Saito's theory of free divisors, also a characterization in terms of logarithmic differential forms and vector fields is found and and finally another one in terms of the logarithmic residue using recent results of M. Granger and M. Schulze.
We give a complete description and classification of locally homogeneous real hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^3$. Various groups of mathematicians have been studying this problem in the last 25 years, and several significant classes of hypersurfaces under consideration have been studied and classified. The final results in the classification problem presented in this paper are obtained by using the classification of abstract 5-dimensional real Lie algebras, and by studying their representations by algebras of holomorphic vector fields in complex 3-space. The complete list of pairwise inequivalent …
Given a closed complex hypersurface $Z\subset \mathbb{C}^{N+1}$ $(N\in\mathbb{N})$ and a compact subset $K\subset Z$, we prove the existence of a pseudoconvex Runge domain $D$ in $Z$ such that $K\subset D$ and there is a complete proper holomorphic embedding from $D$ into the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^{N+1}$. For $N=1$, we derive the existence of complete properly embedded complex curves in the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^2$, with arbitrarily prescribed finite topology. In particular, there exist complete proper holomorphic embeddings of the unit disc $\mathbb{D}\subset \mathbb{C}$ into the unit b…
Let $X$ be a connected complex manifold of dimension $\geq 3$ and $M$ a smooth compact Levi-flat real hypersurface in $X$. We show that the normal bundle to the Levi foliation does not admit a Hermitian metric with positive curvature along the leaves. This generalizes a result obtained by Brunella.
