In this paper we prove that every smooth complete closed complex hypersurface in the open unit ball $\mathbb{B}_n$ of $\mathbb{C}^n$ $(n\ge 2)$ is a level set of a noncritical holomorphic function on $\mathbb{B}_n$ all of whose level sets are complete. This shows that $\mathbb{B}_n$ admits a nonsingular holomorphic foliation by smooth complete closed complex hypersurfaces and, what is the main point, that every hypersurface in $\mathbb{B}_n$ of this type can be embedded into such a foliation. We establish a more general result in which neither completeness nor smoothness of the given hypersurface is required.
Furthermore, we obtain a similar result for complex submanifolds of arbitrary positive codimension and prove the existence of a nonsingular holomorphic submersion foliation of $\mathbb{B}_n$ by smooth complete closed complex submanifolds of any pure codimension $q\in\{1,\ldots,n-1\}$.
We study Levi-flat real analytic hypersurfaces with singularities. We prove that the Levi foliation on the regular part of the hypersurface can be holomorphically extended, in a suitable sense, to neighbourhoods of singular points.
We show that the open unit ball $\mathbb{B}^n$ of $\mathbb{C}^n$ $(n>1)$ admits a nonsingular holomorphic foliation by complete properly embedded holomorphic discs.
We prove the non-existence of real analytic Levi flat hypersurface whose complement is 1-convex and Levi foliation is transversely affine in compact Kahler surfaces.
It is shown that the Levi foliation of a real analytic Levi-flat hypersurface extends to a $d$-web near a nondicritical singular point and admits a multiple-valued meromorphic first integral.
We study holomorphic foliations tangent to singular real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces in compact complex manifolds of complex dimension two. We give some hypotheses to guarantee the existence of dicritical singularities of these objects. As consequence, we give some applications to holomorphic foliations tangent to real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces with singularities in $\mathbb{P}^2$.
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a codimension one holomorphic foliation in $\mathbb{P}^n$, $n\geq 2$, leaving invariant a real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurface $M$ with regular part $M^{*}$. Then every leaf of $\mathcal{F}$ outside $\overline{M^{*}}$ accumulates in $\overline{M^{*}}$.
Given a projective symplectic manifold $M$ and a non-singular hypersurface $X \subset M$, the symplectic form of $M$ induces a foliation of rank 1 on $X$, called the characteristic foliation. We study the question when the characteristic foliation is algebraic, namely, all the leaves are algebraic curves. Our main result is that the characteristic foliation of $X$ is not algebraic if $X$ is of general type. For the proof, we first establish an étale version of Reeb stability theorem in foliation theory and then combine it with the positivity of the direct image sheaves associated to families o…
Let $X$ be an irreducible holomorphic symplectic fourfold and $D$ a smooth hypersurface in $X$. It follows from a result by Amerik and Campana that the characteristic foliation (that is the foliation given by the kernel of the restriction of the symplectic form to $D$) is not algebraic unless $D$ is uniruled. Suppose now that the Zariski closure of its general leaf is a surface. We prove that $X$ has a lagrangian fibration and $D$ is the inverse image of a curve on its base.
We construct canonical absolute parallelisms over real-analytic manifolds equipped with $2$-nondegenerate, hypersurface-type CR structures of arbitrary odd dimension not less than $7$ whose Levi kernel has constant rank belonging to a broad subclass of CR structures that we label as recoverable. For this we develop a new approach based on a reduction to a special flag structure, called the dynamical Legendrian contact structure, on the leaf space of the CR structure's associated Levi foliation. This extends the results of Porter-Zelenko [20] from the case of regular CR symbols constituting a d…
Given a closed complex hypersurface $Z\subset \mathbb{C}^{N+1}$ $(N\in\mathbb{N})$ and a compact subset $K\subset Z$, we prove the existence of a pseudoconvex Runge domain $D$ in $Z$ such that $K\subset D$ and there is a complete proper holomorphic embedding from $D$ into the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^{N+1}$. For $N=1$, we derive the existence of complete properly embedded complex curves in the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^2$, with arbitrarily prescribed finite topology. In particular, there exist complete proper holomorphic embeddings of the unit disc $\mathbb{D}\subset \mathbb{C}$ into the unit b…
In this work we study analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces in complex algebraic surfaces. First, we show that if this foliation admits chaotic dynamics (i.e. if it does not admit a transverse invariant measure), then the connected components of the complement of the hypersurface are modifications of Stein domains. This allows us to extend the CR foliation to a singular algebraic foliation on the ambient complex surface. We apply this result to prove, by contradiction, that analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces admitting a transverse affine structure in a complex algebraic surface have a transverse inva…
We study the singular set of a singular Levi-flat real-analytic hypersurface. We prove that the singular set of such a hypersurface is Levi-flat in the appropriate sense. We also show that if the singular set is small enough, then the Levi-foliation extends to a singular codimension one holomorphic foliation of a neighborhood of the hypersurface.
We investigate the accumulation to singular points of leaves of codimension one foliations whose normal bundle is ample, with emphasis on the nonexistence of Levi-flat hypersurfaces.
Let $X$ be a connected complex manifold of dimension $\geq 3$ and $M$ a smooth compact Levi-flat real hypersurface in $X$. We show that the normal bundle to the Levi foliation does not admit a Hermitian metric with positive curvature along the leaves. This generalizes a result obtained by Brunella.
We give a bounding of degree of quasi-smooth hypersurfaces which are invariant by a one dimensional holomorphic foliation of a given degree on a weighted projective space.
Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold and $α$ be a class in the Dolbeault cohomology class of bidegree $(1, 1)$ on $X$. When the numerical dimension of $α$ is one and $α$ admits at least two smooth semi-positive representatives, we show the existence of a family of real analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces in $X$ and a holomorphic foliation on a suitable domain of $X$ along whose leaves any semi-positive representative of $α$ is zero. As an application, we give the affirmative answer to \cite[Conjecture 2.1]{K2019} on the relation between the semi-positivity of the line bundle $[Y]$ and the analyti…
In this article we provide a version of Chow's theorem for real analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces in the complex projective space $\mathbb{P}^{n}$, $n \geq 2$. More specifically, we prove that a real analytic Levi-flat hypersurface $M \subset \mathbb{P}^{n}$, with singular set of real dimension at most $2n-4$ and whose Levi leaves are contained in algebraic hypersurfaces, is tangent to the levels of a rational function in $\mathbb{P}^{n}$. As a consequence, $M$ is a semialgebraic set. We also prove that a Levi foliation on $\mathbb{P}^{n}$ - a singular real analytic foliation whose leaves are i…
In this work we prove a Baum-Bott type formula for non-compact complex manifold of the form $\tilde{X}=X- \mathcal{D}$, where $X$ is a complex compact manifold and $\mathcal{D}$ is a normal crossing divisor on $X$. As applications, we provide a Poincaré-Hopf type Theorem and an optimal description for a smooth hypersurface $\mathcal{D}$ invariant by an one-dimensional foliation $\mathscr F$ on $\mathbb{P}^n$ satisfying $Sing(\mathscr F) \subsetneq \mathcal{D}.$
We study holomorphic foliations of codimension $k\geq 1$ on a complex manifold $X$ of dimension $n+k$ from the point of view of the exceptional minimal set conjecture. For $n\geq 2$ we show in particular that if the holomorphic normal bundle $N_{\mathcal{F}}$ is Griffiths positive, then the foliation does not admit a compact invariant set that is a complete intersection of $k$ smooth real hypersurfaces in $X$.
We prove that the normal bundle to the Levi foliation of a smooth Levi flat hypersurface does not admit a Hermitian metric with positive curvature along the leaves in compact Kähler manifolds of dimension at least 3. This represents an answer to a conjecture of Marco Brunella.
We present sufficient conditions on a smooth uniformly flat hypersurface W in the unit ball to be an interpolation hypersurface or a sampling hypersurface for generalized Bergman spaces associated to the unit ball with its Bergman metric. The conditions are phrased in terms of a geometric Beurling-type densities, similar to the densities defined for hypersurfaces in C^n by Ortega-Cerda, Schuster and the second author. For the case of sampling, our proofs are different than those in the C^n case; we use an approach closer in spirit to the work of Berndtsson and Ortega-Cerda in the 1-dimensional…
We explore connections between geometric properties of the Levi foliation of a Levi-flat hypersurface M and holomorphic convexity of compact sets in M, or bounded in part by M. Applications include extendability of Cauchy-Riemann functions, solvability of the dibar_b-equation, approximability of holomorphic and CR functions, and global regularity of the dibar-Neumann operator.
In 1977 P.Yang asked whether there exist complete immersed complex submanifolds g : M^k --> C^N with bounded image. A positive answer is known for holomorphic curves (k=1) and partial answers are known for the case when k>1. The principal result of the present paper is a construction of a holomorphic function on the open unit ball B_N of C^N whose real part is unbounded on every path in B_N of finite length that ends on the boundary of B_N. A consequence is the existence of a complete, closed, complex hypersurface in B_N. This gives a positive answer to Yang's question in all dimensions k, N, …
We study curvature restrictions of Levi-flat real hypersurfaces in complex projective planes, whose existence is in question. We focus on its totally real Ricci curvature, the Ricci curvature of the real hypersurface in the direction of the Reeb vector field, and show that it cannot be greater than -4 along a Levi-flat real hypersurface. We rely on a finiteness theorem for the space of square integrable holomorphic 2-forms on the complement of the Levi-flat real hypersurface, where the curvature plays the role of the size of the infinitesimal holonomy of its Levi foliation.
A semiholomorphic foliations of type (n, d) is a differentiable real manifold X of dimension 2n + d, foliated by complex leaves of complex dimension n. In the present work, we introduce an appropriate notion of pseudoconvexity (and consequently, q-completeness) for such spaces, given by the interplay of the usual pseudoconvexity, along the leaves, and the positivity of the transversal bundle. For 1-complete real analytic semiholomorphic foliations, we obtain a vanishing theorem for the CR cohomology, which we use to show an extension result for CR functions on Levi flat hypersurfaces and an em…
We study singular real analytic Levi-flat subsets invariant by singular holomorphic foliations in complex projective spaces. We give sufficient conditions for a real analytic Levi-flat subset to be the pull-back of a semianalytic Levi-flat hypersurface in a complex projective surface under a rational map or to be the pull-back of a real algebraic curve under a meromorphic function. In particular, we give an application to the case of a singular real analytic Levi-flat hypersurface. Our results improve previous ones due to Lebl and Bretas -- Fernández-Pérez -- Mol.
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a singular codimension one holomorphic foliation on a compact complex manifold $X$ of dimension at least three such that its singular set has codimension at least two. In this paper, we determine Lehmann-Suwa residues of $\mathcal{F}$ as multiples of complex numbers by integration currents along irreducible complex subvarieties of $X$. We then prove a formula that determines the Baum-Bott residue of simple almost Liouvillian foliations of codimension one, in terms of Lehmann-Suwa residues, generalizing a result of Marco Brunella. As an application, we give sufficient condi…
Let $H \subset {\mathbb P}^n$ be a real-analytic subvariety of codimension one induced by a real-analytic curve in the Grassmannian $G(n+1,n)$. Assuming $H$ has a global defining function, we prove $H$ is Levi-flat, the closure of its smooth points of top dimension is a union of complex hyperplanes, and its singular set is either of dimension $2n-2$ or dimension $2n-4$. If the singular set is of dimension $2n-4$, then we show the hypersurface is algebraic and the Levi-foliation extends to a singular holomorphic foliation of ${\mathbb P}^n$ with a meromorphic (rational of degree 1) first integr…
