We study Fourier multipliers which result from modulating jumps of Lévy processes. Using the theory of martingale transforms we prove that these operators are bounded in $L^p(\Rd)$ for $1<p<\infty$ and we obtain the same explicit bound for their norm as the one known for the second order Riesz transforms.
We give a class of Fourier multipliers with non-symmetric symbols and explicit norm bounds on $L^p$ spaces by using the stochastic calculus of Lévy processes and Burkholder-Wang estimates for differentially subordinate martingales.
Using Itô's formula for processes with jumps, we give a simple direct proof of the Hardy-Stein identity proved in \cite{BBL}. We extend the proof given in that paper to non-symmetric Lévy-Fourier multipliers.
Using the argument of Geiss, Montgomery-Smith and Saksman \cite{GMSS}, and a new martingale inequality, the $L^p$--norms of certain Fourier multipliers in $\R^d$, $d\geq 2$, are identified. These include, among others, the second order Riesz transforms $R_j^2$, $j=1, 2,..., d$, and some of the Lévy multipliers studied in \cite{BBB}, \cite{BB}
In this paper we introduce the notion of weak differential subordination for martingales and show that a Banach space $X$ is a UMD Banach space if and only if for all $p\in (1,\infty)$ and all purely discontinuous $X$-valued martingales $M$ and $N$ such that $N$ is weakly differentially subordinated to $M$, one has the estimate $\mathbb E \|N_{\infty}\|^p \leq C_p\mathbb E \|M_{\infty}\|^p$. As a corollary we derive the sharp estimate for the norms of a broad class of even Fourier multipliers, which includes e.g. the second order Riesz transforms.
In this paper we show sharp lower bounds for norms of even homogeneous Fourier multipliers in $\mathcal L(L^p(\mathbb R^d; X))$ for $1<p<\infty$ and for a UMD Banach space $X$ in terms of the range of the corresponding symbol. For example, if the range contains $a_1,\ldots,a_N \in \mathbb C$, then the norm of the multiplier exceeds $\|a_1R_1^2 + \cdots + a_NR_N^2\|_{\mathcal L(L^p(\mathbb R^N; X))}$, where $R_n$ is the corresponding Riesz transform. We also provide sharp upper bounds of norms of Bañuelos-Bogdan type multipliers in terms of the range of the functions involved. The main tools th…
In this paper we prove weighted norm inequalities for Weyl multipliers satisfying Mauceri's condition. As applications of this we obtain some estimates for $L^p$ multipliers on the Heisenberg group and also show in the context of a theorem of Weis on operator valued Fourier multipliers that the R-boundedness of the derivative of the multiplier is not necessary for the boundedness of the multiplier transform.
We prove the boundedness of a general class of multipliers and Fourier multipliers, in particular of the Hilbert transform, on quasi-Banach modulation spaces. We also deduce boundedness for multiplications and convolutions for elements in such spaces.
We investigate the $L_p \mapsto L_q$ boundedness of the Fourier multipliers. We obtain sufficient conditions, namely, we derive Hormander and Lizorkin type theorems. We also obtain the necessary conditions. For $M$-generalized monotone functions, we obtain a criteria for boundedness of the corresponding Fourier multipliers.
In this note a Fuglede type theorem is proved for Fourier multiplier operators on translation invariant Banach function spaces with order continuous norm over compact abelian groups.
In this paper we proof that every Fourier multiplier on homogeneous sobolev space $\dot{W}_1^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$ is a continuous function. Our theorem is generalization of A. Bonami and S. Poornima result for Fourier multipliers, which are homogeneous functions of degree zero.
The admittable Sobolev regularity is quantified for a function, $w$, which has a zero in the $d$--dimensional torus and whose reciprocal $u=1/w$ is a $(p,q)$--multiplier. Several aspects of this problem are addressed, including zero--sets of positive Hausdorff dimension, matrix valued Fourier multipliers, and non--symmetric versions of Sobolev regularity. Additionally, we make a connection between Fourier multipliers and approximation properties of Gabor systems and shift--invariant systems. We exploit this connection and the results on Fourier multipliers to refine and extend versions of the …
We study stability estimates for the almost extremal functions associated with the $L^p$-bound for the real and imaginary parts of the Beurling-Ahlfors operator. The proof exploits probabilistic methods and rests on analogous results for differentially subordinate martingales which are of independent interest. This allows us to obtain stability inequalities for a larger class of Fourier multipliers.
Inspired by the work of A. Bonami and S. Poornima that a non-constant function which is homogeneous of degree $0$ cannot be a Fourier multiplier on homogeneous Sobolev spaces, we establish analogous results for Fourier multipliers on the Heisenberg group $ \mathbb{H}^n $ and Weyl multipliers on $ \mathbb{C}^n $ acting on Sobolev Spaces.
In the article, we find new dilatation results on non-commutative $L_p$ spaces. We prove that any selfadjoint, unital, positive measurable Schur multiplier on some $B(L^2(Σ))$ admits, for all $1\leq p<\infty$, an invertible isometric dilation on some non-commutative $L^p$-space. We obtain a similar result for selfadjoint, unital, completely positive Fourier multiplier on $VN(G)$, when $G$ is a unimodular locally compact group. Furthermore, we establish multivariable versions of these results.
We study the effect of a splitting operator S_t on the L^p norm of the Fourier transform of a function f and on the operator norm of a Fourier multiplier m. Most of our results assume p is an even integer, and are often stronger when f or m has compact support.
In this article, we present some results about Fourier multipliers on Hardy spaces in the product case. We mainly give descriptions of multipliers from the space $H^1(\mathbb{T}\times\mathbb{T})$ into the space $\ell^2$ and from the space $H^1(\mathbb{R}_+^2\times\mathbb{R}_+^2)$ into the space $L^1$.
The main purpose of this paper is to give an estimate for the Fourier Laguerre transform on Hardy spaces in the setting of Laguerre hypergroup. The atomic and molecular characterization is investigated which allows us to prove a version of Hormander's multiplier theorem on H^p (0<p\leq1).
In this short note, we prove that the subspace of radial multipliers is contractively complemented in the space of Fourier multipliers on the Bochner space $\mathrm{L}^p(\mathbb{R}^n,X)$ where $X$ is a Banach space and where $1 \leq p <\infty$. Moreover, if $X = \mathbb{C}$, then this complementation preserves the positivity of multipliers.
The present paper, is devoted to investigation of operator--valued Fourier multiplier theorems from $B_{q_{1},r}^{s}$ to $B_{q_{2},r}^{s}$, optimal embedding of Besov spaces, the separability and positivity of differential operators. Here, we show that these differential operators generate analytic semigroup.
We present a characterization of hyperbolicity for strongly continuous semigroups on Banach spaces in terms of Fourier multiplier properties of the resolvent of the generator. Hyperbolicity with respect to classical solutions is also considered. Our approach unifies and simplifies the M. Kaashoek-- S. Verduyn Lunel theory and multiplier-type results previously obtained by S. Clark, M. Hieber, S. Montgomery-Smith, F. Räbiger, T. Randolph, and L. Weis.
In this work we investigate the boundedness of Fourier multipliers on Triebel-Lizorkin spaces associated to positive Rockland operators on a graded Lie group. The found criterion is expressed in terms of the Hörmander-Mihlin condition on the global symbol of a Fourier multiplier.
We provide estimates for weighted Fourier sums of integrable functions defined on the sphere when the weights originate from a multiplier operator acting on the space where the function belongs. That implies refined estimates for weighted Fourier sums of integrable kernels on the sphere that satisfy an abstract Hölder condition based on a parameterized family of multiplier operators defining an approximate identity. This general estimation approach includes an important class of multipliers operators, namely, that defined by convolutions with zonal measures. The estimates are used to obtain de…
We study some fundamental properties of the special affine Fourier transform (SAFT) in connection with the Fourier analysis and time-frequency analysis. We introduce the modulation space $\boldsymbol {M}^{r,s}_A$ in connection with SAFT and prove that if a bounded linear operator between new modulation spaces commutes with $A$-translation, then it is a $A$-convolution operator. We also establish Hörmander multiplier theorem and Littlewood-Paley theorem associated with the SAFT.
A locally compact group $ G $ is discrete if and only if the Fourier algebra $ A(G) $ has a non-zero (weakly) compact multiplier. We partially extend this result to the setting of ultraspherical hypergroups. Let $H$ be an ultraspherical hypergroup and let $A(H)$ denote the corresponding Fourier algebra. We will give several characterizations of discreteness of $ H $ in the terms of the algebraic properties of $A(H)$. We also study Arens regularity of closed ideals of $ A(H)$.
We study Fourier multipliers on free group $\mathbb{F}_\infty$ associated with the first segment of the reduced words, and prove that they are completely bounded on the noncommutative $L^p$ spaces $L^p(\hat{\mathbb{F}}_\infty)$ iff their restriction on $L^p(\hat{\mathbb{F}}_1)=L^p(\mathbb{T})$ are completely bounded. As a consequence, every classical Mikhlin multiplier extends to a $L^p$ Fourier multiplier on free groups for all $1<p<\infty$.
We investigate the boundedness of unimodular Fourier multipliers on modulation spaces. Surprisingly, the multipliers with general symbol $e^{i|ξ|^α}$, where $α\in[0, 2]$, are bounded on all modulation spaces, but, in general, fail to be bounded on the usual $L^p$-spaces. As a consequence, the phase-space concentration of the solutions to the free Schrödinger and wave equations are preserved. As a byproduct, we also obtain boundedness results on modulation spaces for singular multipliers $|ξ|^{-δ} \sin (|ξ|^α)$ for $ 0 \leq δ\leq α$.
We establish Littlewood-Paley decompositions for Muckenhoupt weights in the setting of UMD spaces. As a consequence we obtain two-weight variants of the Mikhlin multiplier theorem for operator-valued multipliers. We also show two-weight estimates for multipliers satisfying Hörmander type conditions.
We obtain new results on Fourier multipliers for Dirichlet-Hardy spaces. As a consequence, we establish a Littlewood-Paley type inequality which yields a simple proof that the Dirichlet monomials form a Schauder basis for p>1.
In this paper we study multipliers on graded nilpotent Lie groups defined via group Fourier transform. More precisely, we show that Hörmander type conditions on the Fourier multipliers imply $L^p$-boundedness. We express these conditions using difference operators and positive Rockland operators. We also obtain a more refined condition using Sobolev spaces on the dual of the group which are defined and studied in this paper.
Let $G$ be an infinite locally compact abelian group. If $X$ is Banach space, we show that if every bounded Fourier multiplier $T$ on $L^2(G)$ has the property that $T\ot Id_X$ is bounded on $L^2(G,X)$ then the Banach space $X$ is isomorphic to a Hilbert space. Moreover, if $1<p<\infty$, $p\not=2$, we prove that there exists a bounded Fourier multiplier on $L^p(G)$ which is not completely bounded. Finally, we examine unconditionality from the point of view of Schur multipliers. More precisely, we give several necessary and sufficient conditions to determine if an operator space is completely i…
In this paper we complete the investigation of scaling limits of the odometer in divisible sandpiles on $d$-dimensional tori generalising the works Chiarini et al. (2018), Cipriani et al. (2017, 2018). Relaxing the assumption of independence of the weights of the divisible sandpile, we generate generalised Gaussian fields in the limit by specifying the Fourier multiplier of their covariance kernel. In particular, using a Fourier multiplier approach, we can recover fractional Gaussian fields of the form $(-Δ)^{-(1+s)} W$ for $s>0$ and $W$ a spatial white noise on the $d$-dimensional unit torus.
We show that several definitions of algebras of continuous Fourier multipliers on variable Lebesgue spaces over the real line are equivalent under some natural assumptions on variable exponents. Some of our results are new even in the case of standard Lebesgue spaces and give answers on two questions about algebras of continuous Fourier multipliers on Lebesgue spaces over the real line posed by H. Mascarenhas, P. Santos and M. Seidel.
In this paper we prove a noncommutative version of Hardy-Littlewood inequalities relating a function and its Fourier coefficients on the group $SU(2)$. As a consequence, we use it to obtain lower bounds for the $L^p-L^q$ norms of Fourier multipliers on the group $SU(2)$, for $1 < p \leq 2 \leq q < 1$. In addition, we give upper bounds of a similar form, analogous to the known results on the torus, but now in the noncommutative setting of $SU(2)$.
In this paper we establish the $L^p$-$L^q$ boundedness of Fourier multipliers on locally compact separable unimodular groups for the range of indices $1<p\leq 2 \leq q<\infty$. Our approach is based on the operator algebras techniques. The result depends on a version of the Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequality that we establish on general locally compact separable unimodular groups. In particular, the obtained result implies the corresponding Hörmander's Fourier multiplier theorem on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ and the corresponding known results for Fourier multipliers on compact Lie groups.
We give an overview of some recent results on operator-valued $(L^{p},L^{q})$ Fourier multipliers and stability theory for evolution equations. The aim is to provide a relatively nontechnical introduction to the underlying ideas, emphasizing the connection between the two areas. We also indicate how operator-valued $(L^{p},L^{q})$ Fourier multipliers can be applied to functional calculus theory.
We investigate Fourier multipliers on the compact dual of arbitrary discrete groups. Our main result is a Hörmander-Mihlin multiplier theorem for finite-dimensional cocycles with optimal smoothness condition. We also find Littlewood-Paley type inequalities in group von Neumann algebras, prove $L_p$ estimates for noncommutative Riesz transforms and characterize $L_\infty \to \mathrm{BMO}$ boundedness for radial Fourier multipliers. The key novelties of our approach are to exploit group cocycles and cross products in Fourier multiplier theory in conjunction with BMO spaces associated to semigrou…
We inspect the relationship between relative Fourier multipliers on noncommutative Lebesgue-Orlicz spaces of a discrete group and relative Toeplitz-Schur multipliers on Schatten-von-Neumann-Orlicz classes. Four applications are given: lacunary sets; unconditional Schauder bases for the subspace of a Lebesgue space determined by a given spectrum, that is, by a subset of the group; the norm of the Hilbert transform and the Riesz projection on Schatten-von-Neumann classes with exponent a power of 2; the norm of Toeplitz Schur multipliers on Schatten-von-Neumann classes with exponent less than 1.
A new general Hormander type condition involving anisotropies and mixed norms is introduced, and boundedness results for Fourier multi- pliers on anisotropic Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces of distributions with mixed Lebesgue norms are obtained. As an application, the continuity of such operators is established on mixed Sobolev and Lebesgue spaces too. Some lifting properties and equivalent norms are obtained as well.
For a locally compact group $G$, let $A(G)$ be its Fourier algebra, let $M_{cb}A(G)$ denote the completely bounded multipliers of $A(G)$, and let $A_{Mcb}(G)$ stand for the closure of $A(G)$ in $M_{cb}A(G)$. We characterize the norm one idempotents in $M_{cb}A(G)$: the indicator function of a set $E \subset G$ is a norm one idempotent in $M_{cb}A(G)$ if and only if $E$ is a coset of an open subgroup of $G$. As applications, we describe the closed ideals of $A_{Mcb}(G)$ with an approximate identity bounded by 1, and we characterize those $G$ for which $A_{Mcb}(G)$ is 1-amenable in the sense of …
In this paper we extend classical Titchmarsh theorems on the Fourier transform of H$\ddot{\text{o}}$lder-Lipschitz functions to the setting of harmonic $NA$ groups, which relate smoothness properties of functions to the growth and integrability of their Fourier transform. We prove a Fourier multiplier theorem for $L^2$-H$\ddot{\text{o}}$lder-Lipschitz spaces on Harmonic $NA$ groups. We also derive conditions and a characterisation of Dini-Lipschitz classes on Harmonic $NA$ groups in terms of the behaviour of their Fourier transform. Then, we shift our attention to the spherical analysis on Har…
Consider a completely bounded Fourier multiplier phi of a locally compact group G, and take 1 <= p <= infinity. One can associate to phi a Schur multiplier on the Schatten classes S_p(L^2 G), as well as a Fourier multiplier on Lp(LG), the non-commutative Lp-space of the group von Neumann algebra of G. We prove that the completely bounded norm of the Schur multiplier is not greater than the completely bounded norm of the Lp-Fourier multiplier. When G is amenable we show that equality holds, extending a result by Neuwirth and Ricard to non-discrete groups. For a discrete group G and in the speci…
We prove in this paper that a sequence $M:\mathbb{Z}^{n}\to\mathcal{L}(E)$ of bounded variation is a Fourier multiplier on the Besov space $B_{p,q}^{s}(\mathbb{T}^{n},E)$ for $s\in\mathbb{R}$, $1<p<\infty$, $1\leq q\leq\infty$ and $E$ a Banach space, if and only if $E$ is a UMD-space. This extends in some sense the Theorem 4.2 in [AB04] to the $n-$dimensional case. The result is used to obtain existence and uniqueness of solution for some Cauchy problems with periodic boundary conditions.
The $(k,a)$-generalised Fourier transform is the unitary operator defined using the $a$-deformed Dunkl harmonic oscillator. The main aim of this paper is to prove $L^p$-$L^q$ boundedness of $(k, a)$-generalised Fourier multipliers. To show the boundedness we first establish Paley inequality and Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequality for $(k, a)$-generalised Fourier transform. We also demonstrate applications of obtained results to study the well-posedness of nonlinear partial differential equations.
In this paper we have studied Fourier multipliers and Littlewood-Paley square functions in the context of modulation spaces. We have also proved that any bounded linear operator from modulation space $\mathcal{M}_{p,q}(\R^n), 1\leq p,q\leq \infty,$ into itself possesses an $l_2-$valued extension. This is an analogue of a well known result due to Marcinkiewicz and Zygmund on classical $L^p-$spaces.
In this paper we consider Fourier multiplier operators between vector-valued Besov spaces with different integrability exponents $p$ and $q$, which depend on the type $p$ and cotype $q$ of the underlying Banach spaces. In a previous paper we considered $L^p$-$L^q$-multiplier theorems. In the current paper we show that in the Besov scale one can obtain results with optimal integrability exponents. Moreover, we derive a sharp result in the $L^p$-$L^q$-setting as well. We consider operator-valued multipliers without smoothness assumptions. The results are based on a Fourier multiplier theorem for…
We study the fractal uncertainty principle in the joint time-frequency representation, and we prove a version for the Short-Time Fourier transform with Gaussian window on the modulation spaces. This can equivalently be formulated in terms of projection operators on the Bargmann-Fock spaces of entire functions. Specifically for signals in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, we obtain norm estimates of Daubechies' time-frequency localization operator localizing on porous sets. The proof is based on the maximal Nyquist density of such sets, and for multidimensional Cantor iterates we derive explicit upper bound…
Fourier multiplier analysis is developed for nonlocal peridynamic-type Laplace operators, which are defined for scalar fields in $\mathbb{R}^n$. The Fourier multipliers are given through an integral representation. We show that the integral representation of the Fourier multipliers is recognized explicitly through a unified and general formula in terms of the hypergeometric function $_2F_3$ in any spatial dimension $n$. Asymptotic analysis of $_2F_3$ is utilized to identify the asymptotic behavior of the Fourier multipliers $m(ν)$ as $\|ν\|\rightarrow \infty$. We show that the multipliers are …
