We investigate the boundedness of unimodular Fourier multipliers on modulation spaces. Surprisingly, the multipliers with general symbol $e^{i|ξ|^α}$, where $α\in[0, 2]$, are bounded on all modulation spaces, but, in general, fail to be bounded on the usual $L^p$-spaces. As a consequence, the phase-space concentration of the solutions to the free Schrödinger and wave equations are preserved. As a byproduct, we also obtain boundedness results on modulation spaces for singular multipliers $|ξ|^{-δ} \sin (|ξ|^α)$ for $ 0 \leq δ\leq α$.
This note gives a wide-ranging update on the multiplier theorems by Akylzhanov and the second author [J. Funct. Anal., 278 (2020), 108324]. The proofs of the latter crucially rely on $L^p$-$L^q$ norm estimates for spectral projectors of left-invariant weighted subcoercive operators on unimodular Lie groups, such as Laplacians, sub-Laplacians and Rockland operators. By relating spectral projectors to heat kernels, explicit estimates of the $L^p$-$L^q$ norms can be immediately exploited for a much wider range of (connected unimodular) Lie groups and operators than previously known. The compariso…
We study the continuity on the modulation spaces $M^{p,q}$ of Fourier multipliers with symbols of the type $e^{iμ(ξ)}$, for some real-valued function $μ(ξ)$. A number of results are known, assuming that the derivatives of order $\geq 2$ of the phase $μ(ξ)$ are bounded or, more generally, that its second derivatives belong to the Sjöstrand class $M^{\infty,1}$. Here we extend those results, by assuming that the second derivatives lie in the bigger Wiener amalgam space $W(\mathcal{F} L^1,L^\infty)$; in particular they could have stronger oscillations at infinity such as $\cos |ξ|^2$. Actually ou…
We prove the boundedness of a general class of multipliers and Fourier multipliers, in particular of the Hilbert transform, on quasi-Banach modulation spaces. We also deduce boundedness for multiplications and convolutions for elements in such spaces.
In this paper we establish the $L^p$-$L^q$ boundedness of Fourier multipliers on locally compact separable unimodular groups for the range of indices $1<p\leq 2 \leq q<\infty$. Our approach is based on the operator algebras techniques. The result depends on a version of the Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequality that we establish on general locally compact separable unimodular groups. In particular, the obtained result implies the corresponding Hörmander's Fourier multiplier theorem on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ and the corresponding known results for Fourier multipliers on compact Lie groups.
In the article, we find new dilatation results on non-commutative $L_p$ spaces. We prove that any selfadjoint, unital, positive measurable Schur multiplier on some $B(L^2(Σ))$ admits, for all $1\leq p<\infty$, an invertible isometric dilation on some non-commutative $L^p$-space. We obtain a similar result for selfadjoint, unital, completely positive Fourier multiplier on $VN(G)$, when $G$ is a unimodular locally compact group. Furthermore, we establish multivariable versions of these results.
We study some fundamental properties of the special affine Fourier transform (SAFT) in connection with the Fourier analysis and time-frequency analysis. We introduce the modulation space $\boldsymbol {M}^{r,s}_A$ in connection with SAFT and prove that if a bounded linear operator between new modulation spaces commutes with $A$-translation, then it is a $A$-convolution operator. We also establish Hörmander multiplier theorem and Littlewood-Paley theorem associated with the SAFT.
In this paper we discuss the $L^p$-$L^q$ boundedness of both spectral and Fourier multipliers on general locally compact separable unimodular groups $G$ for the range $1<p\leq q<\infty$. We prove a Lizorkin type multiplier theorem for $1<p\leq q<\infty$, and then refine it as a Hörmander type multiplier theorem for $1<p\leq 2\leq q<\infty$. In the process, we establish versions of Paley and Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequalities on general locally compact separable unimodular groups. As a consequence of the Hörmander type multiplier theorem we derive a spectral multiplier theorem on general locall…
In this paper we have studied Fourier multipliers and Littlewood-Paley square functions in the context of modulation spaces. We have also proved that any bounded linear operator from modulation space $\mathcal{M}_{p,q}(\R^n), 1\leq p,q\leq \infty,$ into itself possesses an $l_2-$valued extension. This is an analogue of a well known result due to Marcinkiewicz and Zygmund on classical $L^p-$spaces.
It is known that the Sobolev space $L^2_s$ with $s>n/2$ appeared in the Hörmander multiplier theorem can be replaced by the Besov space $B^{2,1}_{n/2}$. On the other hand, the Besov space $B_{n/2}^{2,1}$ is continuously embedded in the modulation space $M^{2,1}_0$. In this paper, we consider the problem whether we can replace $B_{n/2}^{2,1}$ by $M^{2,1}_0$.
The inclusion relations between the $L^p$-Sobolev spaces and the modulation spaces is determined explicitly. As an application, mapping properties of unimodular Fourier multiplier $e^{i|D|^α}$ between $L^p$-Sobolev spaces and modulation spaces are discussed.
We introduce a noncommutative analogue of the absolute value of a regular operator acting on a noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-space. We equally prove that two classical operator norms, the regular norm and the decomposable norm are identical. We also describe precisely the regular norm of several classes of regular multipliers. This includes Schur multipliers and Fourier multipliers on some unimodular locally compact groups which can be approximated by discrete groups in various senses. A main ingredient is to show the existence of a bounded projection from the space of completely bounded $\mat…
We study the fractal uncertainty principle in the joint time-frequency representation, and we prove a version for the Short-Time Fourier transform with Gaussian window on the modulation spaces. This can equivalently be formulated in terms of projection operators on the Bargmann-Fock spaces of entire functions. Specifically for signals in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, we obtain norm estimates of Daubechies' time-frequency localization operator localizing on porous sets. The proof is based on the maximal Nyquist density of such sets, and for multidimensional Cantor iterates we derive explicit upper bound…
We obtain dimension free estimates for noncommutative Riesz transforms associated to conditionally negative length functions on group von Neumann algebras. This includes Poisson semigroups, beyond Bakry's results in the commutative setting. Our proof is inspired by Pisier's method and a new Khintchine inequality for crossed products. New estimates include Riesz transforms associated to fractional laplacians in $\mathbb{R}^n$ (where Meyer's conjecture fails) or to the word length of free groups. Lust-Piquard's work for discrete laplacians on LCA groups is also generalized in several ways. In th…
Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a locally compact quantum group with dual $\widehat{\mathbb{G}}$. Suppose that the left Haar weight $φ$ and the dual left Haar weight $\widehatφ$ are tracial, e.g. $\mathbb{G}$ is a unimodular Kac algebra. We prove that for $1<p\le 2 \le q<\infty$, the Fourier multiplier $m_{x}$ is bounded from $L_p(\widehat{\mathbb{G}},\widehatφ)$ to $L_q(\widehat{\mathbb{G}},\widehatφ)$ whenever the symbol $x$ lies in $L_{r,\infty}(\mathbb{G},φ)$, where $1/r=1/p-1/q$. Moreover, we have \begin{equation*} \|m_{x}:L_p(\widehat{\mathbb{G}},\widehatφ)\to L_q(\widehat{\mathbb{G}},\widehatφ)\|\l…
We study the range of time-frequency localization operators acting on modulation spaces and prove a lifting theorem. As an application we also characterize the range of Gabor multipliers, and, in the realm of complex analysis, we characterize the range of certain Toeplitz operators on weighted Bargmann-Fock spaces. The main tools are the construction of canonical isomorphisms between modulation spaces of Hilbert-type and a refined version of the spectral invariance of pseudodifferential operators. On the technical level we prove a new class of inequalities for weighted gamma functions.
We indicate how to construct a family of modulation function spaces that have a scaling symmetry. We also illustrate the behavior of the Schrödinger multiplier on such function spaces.
Let $G$ be a locally compact unimodular group, and let $ϕ$ be some function of $n$ variables on $G$. To such a $ϕ$, one can associate a multilinear Fourier multiplier, which acts on some $n$-fold product of the non-commutative $L_p$-spaces of the group von Neumann algebra. One may also define an associated Schur multiplier, which acts on an $n$-fold product of Schatten classes $S_p(L_2(G))$. We generalize well-known transference results from the linear case to the multilinear case. In particular, we show that the so-called `multiplicatively bounded $(p_1,\ldots,p_n)$-norm' of a multilinear Sch…
We study a class of almost diagonal matrices compatible with the mixed-norm $α$-modulation spaces $M_{\vec{p},q}^{s,α}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, $α\in [0,1]$, introduced recently by Cleanthous and Georgiadis [Trans.\ Amer.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 373 (2020), no. 5, 3323-3356]. The class of almost diagonal matrices is shown to be closed under matrix multiplication and we connect the theory to the continuous case by identifying a suitable notion of molecules for the mixed-norm $α$-modulation spaces. We show that the "change of frame" matrix for a pair of time-frequency frames for the mixed-norm $α$-modulation consi…
Let $G$ be a locally compact unimodular group, let $1\leq p<\infty$,let $ϕ\in L^\infty(G)$ and assume that the Fourier multiplier $M_ϕ$associated with $ϕ$ is bounded on the noncommutative $L^p$-space $L^p(VN(G))$.Then $M_ϕ\colon L^p(VN(G))\to L^p(VN(G))$ is separating (that is,$\{a^*b=ab^*=0\}\Rightarrow\{M_ϕ(a)^* M_ϕ(b)=M_ϕ(a)M_ϕ(b)^*=0\}$for any $a,b\in L^p(VN(G))$) if and only if thereexists $c\in\mathbb C$ and a continuouscharacter $ψ\colon G\to\mathbb C$ such that $ϕ=cψ$ locally almost everywhere. This provides a characterization of isometricFourier multipliers on $L^p(VN(G))$, when $p\no…
We prove that the class of trilinear multiplier forms with singularity over a one dimensional subspace, including the bilinear Hilbert transform, admit bounded $L^p$-extension to triples of intermediate $\mathrm{UMD}$ spaces. No other assumption, for instance of Rademacher maximal function type, is made on the triple of $\mathrm{UMD}$ spaces. Among the novelties in our analysis is an extension of the phase-space projection technique to the $\mathrm{UMD}$-valued setting. This is then employed to obtain appropriate single tree estimates by appealing to the $\mathrm{UMD}$-valued bound for bilinea…
Let $Γ< G$ be a discrete subgroup of a locally compact unimodular group $G$. Let $m\in C_b(G)$ be a $p$-multiplier on $G$ with $1 \leq p < \infty$ and let $T_{m}: L_p(\widehat{G}) \rightarrow L_p(\widehat{G})$ be the corresponding Fourier multiplier. Similarly, let $T_{m \vert_Γ}: L_p(\widehatΓ) \rightarrow L_p(\widehatΓ)$ be the Fourier multiplier associated to the restriction $m|_Γ$ of $m$ to $Γ$. We show that \[ c( {\rm supp}( m\vert_Γ ) ) \Vert T_{m \vert_Γ}: L_p(\widehatΓ) \rightarrow L_p(\widehatΓ) \Vert \leq \Vert T_{m }: L_p(\widehat{G}) \rightarrow L_p(\widehat{G}) \Vert, \] for a spe…
