The well-known Schwarz-Pick lemma states that any analytic mapping $ϕ$ of the unit disk $U$ into itself satisfies the inequality $$|ϕ'(z)|\leq \frac{1-|ϕ(z)|^2}{1-|z|^2}, \quad z\in U.$$ This estimate remains the same if we restrict ourselves to univalent mappings. The lower estimate is $|ϕ'(z)|\geq 0$ generally or $|ϕ'(z)|> 0$ for univalent functions. To make the lower estimate non-trivial we consider univalent functions and fix the angular limit and the angular derivative at some points of the unit circle. In order to obtain sharp estimates we make use of the reduced modulus of a digon.
We prove a high order Schwarz-Pick lemma for mappings between unit balls in complex spaces in terms of the Bergman metric. From this lemma, Schwarz-Pick estimates for partial derivatives of arbitrary order of mappings are deduced.
In this paper we prove a Schwarz-Pick lemma for the modulus of holomorphic mappings between the unit balls in complex spaces. This extends the classical Schwarz-Pick lemma and the related result proved by Pavlovic.
In this paper we prove a Schwarz-Pick lemma for the modulus of holomorphic mappings from the polydisk into the unit ball. This result extends some related results.
We consider the multi-point Schwarz-Pick lemma and its associate functions due to Beardon-Minda and Baribeau-Rivard-Wegert. Basic properties of the associate functions are summarized. Then we observe that special cases of the multi-point Schwarz-Pick lemma give Schur's continued fraction algorithm and several inequalities for bounded analytic functions on the unit disk.
We prove a kind of "reverse Schwarz--Pick lemma" for holomorphic self-maps of the disk. The result becomes especially clear-cut for inner functions and casts new light on their derivatives.
The purpose of this paper is to study the Schwarz-Pick type inequalities for harmonic or pluriharmonic functions. By analogy with the generalized Khavinson conjecture, we first give some sharp estimates of the norm of harmonic functions from the Euclidean unit ball in $\mathbb{R}^n$ into the unit ball of the real Minkowski space. Next, we give several sharp Schwarz-Pick type inequalities for pluriharmonic functions from the Euclidean unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^n$ or from the unit polydisc in $\mathbb{C}^n$ into the unit ball of the Minkowski space. Furthermore, we establish some sharp coefficien…
In this paper, we will give Schwarz-Pick type estimates of arbitrary order partial derivatives for bounded pluriharmonic mappings defined in the unit polydisk. Our main results are generalizations of results of Colonna for planar harmonic mappings in [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 38: 829--840, 1989].
In this paper, we first establish the Schwarz-Pick lemma of higher-order and apply it to obtain a univalency criteria for planar harmonic mappings. Then we discuss distortion theorems, Lipschitz continuity and univalency of planar harmonic mappings defined in the unit disk with linearly connected images.
We prove a ``general shrinking lemma'' that resembles the Schwarz--Pick--Ahlfors Lemma and its many generalizations, but differs in applying to maps of a finite disk into a disk, rather than requiring the domain of the map to be complete. The conclusion is that distances to the origin are all shrunk, and by a limiting procedure we can recover the original Ahlfors Lemma, that {\em all} distances are shrunk. The method of proof is also different in that it relates the shrinking of the Schwarz--Pick--Ahlfors-type lemmas to the comparison theorems of Riemannian geometry.
The celebrated Schwarz-Pick lemma for the complex unit disk is the basis for the study of hyperbolic geometry in one and in several complex variables. In the present paper, we turn our attention to the quaternionic unit ball B. We prove a version of the Schwarz-Pick lemma for self-maps of B that are slice regular, according to the definition of Gentili and Struppa. The lemma has interesting applications in the fixed-point case, and it generalizes to the case of vanishing higher order derivatives.
In this paper, we discuss some properties on hyperbolic-harmonic mappings in the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^{n}$. First, we investigate the relationship between the weighted Lipschitz functions and the hyperbolic-harmonic Bloch spaces. Then we establish the Schwarz-Pick type theorem for hyperbolic-harmonic mappings and apply it to prove the existence of Landau-Bloch constant for mappings in $α$-Bloch spaces.
The purpose of this paper is to study the Schwarz-Pick type inequality and the Lipschitz continuity for the solutions to the nonhomogeneous biharmonic equation: $Δ(Δf)=g$, where $g:$ $\overline{\ID}\rightarrow\mathbb{C}$ is a continuous function and $\overline{\ID}$ denotes the closure of the unit disk $\ID$ in the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$. In fact, we establish the following properties for these solutions: Firstly, we show that the solutions $f$ do not always satisfy the Schwarz-Pick type inequality $$\frac{1-|z|^2}{1-|f(z)|^2}\leq C, $$ where $C$ is a constant. Secondly, we establish a gen…
The aim of this paper is to establish some properties of solutions to the Dirichlet-Neumann problem: $(\partial_z\partial_{\overline{z}})^2 w=g$ in the unit disc $\ID$, $w=γ_0$ and $\partial_ν\partial_z\partial_{\overline{z}}w=γ$ on $\mathbb{T}$ (the unit circle), $\frac{1}{2πi}\int_{\mathbb{T}}w_{ζ\overlineζ}(ζ)\frac{dζ}ζ=c$, where $\partial_ν$ denotes differentiation in the outward normal direction. More precisely, we obtain Schwarz-Pick type inequalities and Landau type theorem for solutions to the Dirichlet-Neumann problem.
We establish some inequalities of Schwarz-Pick type for harmonic and hyperbolic harmonic functions on the unit ball of and we disprove a recent conjecture of Liu [Schwarz-Pick Lemma for Harmonic Functions, International Mathematics Research Notices, 2021].
Based on the recently proved Khavinson conjecture, we establish an inequality of Schwarz-Pick type for harmonic functions on the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^n$.
The notion of a unitary realization is used to estimate derivatives of arbitrary order of functions in the Schur-Agler class on the polydisk and unit ball.
We study several aspects concerning slice regular functions mapping the quaternionic open unit ball into itself. We characterize these functions in terms of their Taylor coefficients at the origin and identify them as contractive multipliers of the Hardy space. In addition, we formulate and solve the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem in the class of such functions presenting necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and for the uniqueness of a solution. Finally, we describe all solutions to the problem in the indeterminate case.
Some of important univalence criteria for a non-constant meromorphic function $f(z)$ on the unit disk $\ID$ involve its pre-Schwarzian or Schwarzian derivative. We consider an appropriate norm for the pre-Schwarzian derivative, and discuss the problem of finding the largest possible $r\in (0,1)$ for which the pre-Schwarzian norm of the dilation $r^{-1}f(rz)$ is not greater than a prescribed number for normalized univalent functions $f(z)$ in the unit disk. Similar results concerning the Schwarzian derivative are also obtained
In this paper we introduce a definition of the pre-Schwarzian and the Schwarzian derivatives of any locally univalent harmonic mapping $f$ in the complex plane without assuming any additional condition on the (second complex) dilatation $ω_f$ of $f$. Using the new definition for the Schwarzian derivative of harmonic mappings, we prove analogous theorems to those by Chuaqui, Duren, and Osgood. Also, we obtain a Becker-type criterion for the univalence of harmonic mappings.
We introduce a new definition of pre-Schwarzian derivative for logharmonic mappings and basic properties such as the chain rule, multiplicative invariance and affine invariance are proved for these operators. It is shown that the pre-Schwarzain is stable only with respect to rotations of the identity. A characterization is given for the case when the pre-Schwarzian derivative is holomorphic.
We review the relation between the classical formulas of the pre-Schwarzian and Schwarzian derivatives of locally univalent analytic functions and the derivatives of the generating functions of the methods due to Newton and Halley, respectively, for approximating zeros. We extend these relations to the cases when the functions considered are harmonic.
We provide a necessary condition for the existence of a 3-point holomorphic interpolant $F:\mathbb{D}\longrightarrowΩ_n$, $n\geq 2$. Our condition is inequivalent to the necessary conditions hitherto known for this problem. The condition generically involves a single inequality and is reminiscent of the Schwarz lemma. We combine some of the ideas and techniques used in our result on the $\mathcal{O}(\mathbb{D},Ω_n)$-interpolation problem to establish a Schwarz lemma -- which may be of independent interest -- for holomorphic correspondences from $\mathbb{D}$ to a general planar domain $Ω\Subset…
Quantitative estimates are obtained for the (finite) valence of functions analytic in the unit disk with Schwarzian derivative that is bounded or of slow growth. A harmonic mapping is shown to be uniformly locally univalent with respect to the hyperbolic metric if and only if it has finite Schwarzian norm, thus generalizing a result of B. Schwarz for analytic functions. A numerical bound is obtained for the Schwarzian norms of univalent harmonic mappings.
In this paper, we obtain sharp bounds for the norm of pre--Schwarzian derivatives of certain analytic functions. Initially this problem was handled by H. Rahmatan, Sh. Najafzadeh and A. Ebadian [Stud Univ Babeş--Bolyai Math {\bf61}(2): 155--162, 2016]. We pointed out that the proofs by Rahmatan et al. are incorrect and present correct proofs.
We prove that if the Schwarzian norm of a given complex-valued locally univalent harmonic mapping $f$ in the unit disk is small enough, then $f$ is, indeed, globally univalent and can be extended to a quasiconformal mapping in the extended complex plane.
The main purpose of this paper is to obtain sharp bounds of the norm of Schwarzian derivative for convex mappings of order $alpha$ in terms of the value of $f''(0)$, in particular, when this quantity is equal to zero. In addition, we obtain sharp bounds for distortion and growth for this mappings and we generalized the results obtained by Suita and Yamashita for this particular case.
We establish a sharp norm estimate of the Schwarzian derivative for a function in the classes of convex functions introduced by Ma and Minda [Proceedings of the Conference on Complex Analysis, International Press Inc., 1992, 157-169]. As applications, we give sharp norm estimates for strongly convex functions of order $α,~0<α<1,$ and for uniformly convex functions.
Suppose that a transcendental meromorphic function in the plane has finitely many critical values, while its multiple points have bounded multiplicities, and its inverse function has finitely many transcendental singularities. Using the Wiman-Valiron method it is shown that the Schwarzian derivative does not have a direct transcendental singularity over infinity, and does not have infinity as a Borel exceptional value.
A pre-Schwarzian and a Schwarzian derivative for locally univalent pluriharmonic mappings in ${\mathbb C}^n$ are introduced. Basic properties such as the chain rule, multiplicative invariance and affine invariance are proved for these operators. It is shown that the pre-Schwarzian is stable only with respect to rotations of the identity. A characterization is given for the case when the pre-Schwarzian derivative is holomorphic. Furthermore, it is shown that if the Schwarzian derivative of a pluriharmonic mapping vanishes then the analytic part of this mapping is a Möbius transformation. Some o…
In the present paper we estimate the norm of the pre-Schwarzian derivative of bi-starlike functions of order $α$ where $α\in[0,1)$. Initially this problem was handled by Rahmatan et al. in [Bull Iran Math Soc {\bf43}: 1037-1043, 2017]. We pointed out that the proofs and bounds by Rahmatan et al. are incorrect and present correct proofs and bounds.
For a normalised analytic function f defined on the open unit disk in the complex plane, we determine several sufficient conditions for starlikeness in terms of the quotients Q_{ST}:=zf'(z)/f(z), Q_{CV}:=1+zf"(z)/f'(z) and the Schwarzian derivative Q_{SD}:=z^2((f"(z)/f'(z))'-(f"(z)/f'(z))^2/2)$. These conditions were obtained by using the admissibility criteria of starlikeness in the theory of second order differential subordination.
In this paper, we extend Ahlfors's univalent criteria and Ahlfors's quasiconformal extension for analytic functions to harmonic mappings defined in the unit disk. Moreover, we give a general quasiconformal extension of harmonic Teichmüller mappings, whose maximal dilatation estimate is asymptotically sharp.
In this paper we study sharp estimates of pre-Schwarzian derivatives of functions belonging to the Nehari-type classes by using techniques from differential equations. In the sequel, we also see that a solution of a complex differential equation has a special form in terms of ratio of hypergeometric functions resulting to an integral representation. Finally, we attempt to study those univalent functions in the unit disk for which the image domain is an unbounded John domain.
For a meromorphic function $f$ in the unit disk $U=\{z:\;|z|<1\}$ and arbitrary points $z_1,z_2$ in $U$ distinct from the poles of $f$, a sharp upper bound on the product $|f'(z_1)f'(z_2)|$ is established. Further, we prove a sharp distortion theorem involving the derivatives $f'(z_1)$, $f'(z_2)$ and the Schwarzian derivatives $S_f(z_1)$, $S_f(z_2)$ for $z_1,z_2\in U$. Both estimates hold true under some geometric restrictions on the image $f(U)$.
The most classical version of the Schwarz lemma involves the behavior at the origin of a bounded, holomorphic function on the disc. Pick's version of the Schwarz lemma allows one to move the origin to other points of the disc. In the present paper we explore versions of the Schwarz lemma at a boundary point of a domain (not just the disc). Estimates on derivatives of the function, and other types of estimates as well, are considered. We review recent results of several authors, and present some new theorems as well.
We establish a criterion for local boundedness and hence normality of a family $\F$ of analytic functions on a domain $D$ in the complex plane whose corresponding family of derivatives is locally bounded. Furthermore we investigate the relation between domains of normality of a family $\F$ of meromorphic functions and its corresponding Schwarzian derivative family. We also establish some criterion for the Schwarzian derivative family of a family $\F$ of analytic functions on a domain $D$ in the complex plane to be a normal family.
For analytic functions in the unit disk, general bounds on the Schwarzian derivative in terms of Nehari functions are shown to imply uniform local univalence and in some cases finite and bounded valence. Similar results are obtained for the Weierstrass--Enneper lifts of planar harmonic mappings to their associated minimal surfaces. Finally certain classes of harmonic mappings are shown to have finite Schwarzian norm.
We give simple proofs of various versions of the Schwarz lemma for real valued harmonic functions and for holomorphic (more generally harmonic quasi\-re\-gu\-lar, shortly HQR) mappings with the strip codomain. Along the way using the principle of subordination and the corresponding conformal mapping, depicted on the Figure 1, we get a simple proof of a new version of the Schwarz lemma for real valued harmonic functions (see Theorems 4 and 5) and Theorem 6 related to holomorphic mappings. Using the Schwarz-Pick lemma related to distortion for harmonic mappings and the elementary properties of t…
The primary aim of this article is to extend certain inequalities concerning the pre-Schwarzian derivatives from the case of analytic univalent functions to that of univalent harmonic mappings defined on certain domains. This is done in two different ways. One of the ways is to connect with a conjecture on the univalent harmonic mappings. Also, we improve certain known results on the majorization of the Jacobian of functions in the affine and linear invariant family of sense-preserving harmonic mappings. This is achieved as an application of a corresponding distortion theorem in terms of the h…
