A main contribution of this paper is the explicit construction of comparison morphisms between the standard bar resolution and Bardzell's minimal resolution for truncated quiver algebras (TQA's).
As a direct application we describe explicitely the Yoneda product and derive several results on the structure of the cohomology ring of TQA's. For instance, we show that the product of odd degree cohomology classes is always zero. We prove that TQA's associated with quivers with no cycles or with neither sinks nor sources have trivial cohomology rings. On the other side we exhibit a fundamental example of a TQA with non trivial cohomology ring. Finaly, for truncated polyniomial algebras in one variable, we construct explicit cohomology classes in the bar resolution and give a full description of their cohomology ring.
A notion of Hochschild cohomology of an abelian category was defined by Lowen and Van den Bergh (2005) and they showed the existence of a characteristic morphism from the Hochschild cohomology into the graded centre of the (bounded) derived category. An element in the second Hochschild cohomology group corresponds to a first order deformation of the abelian category (Lowen and Van den Bergh, 2006). The problem of deforming single objects of the bounded derived category was treated by Lowen (2005). In this paper we show that the image of the Hochschild cohomology element under the characteristi…
We describe how the Hochschild (co)homology of a bound quiver algebra changes when adding or deleting arrows to the quiver. The main tools are relative Hochschild (co)homology, the Jacobi-Zariski long exact sequence obtained by A. Kaygun and a one step relative projective resolution of a tensor algebra.
We provide a formula for the change of the dimension of the first Hoch\-schild cohomology vector space of bound quiver algebras when adding new arrows. For this purpose we show that there exists a short exact sequence which relates the first cohomology vector spaces of the algebras to the first relative cohomology. Moreover, we show that the first Hochschild homologies are isomorphic when adding new arrows.
The main objective of this paper is to provide a theory for computing the Hochschild cohomology of algebras arising from a linear category with finitely many objects and zero compositions. For this purpose, we consider such a category using an ad hoc quiver $Q$, with an algebra associated to each vertex and a bimodule to each arrow. The computation relies on cohomological functors that we introduce, and on the combinatorics of the quiver. One point extensions are occurrences of this situation, and Happel's long exact sequence is a particular case of the long exact sequence of cohomology that w…
We compute the Hochschild cohomology of the reduced incidence algebras such as the algebra of formal power series, the algebra of exponential power series, the algebra of Eulerian power series, and the algebra of formal Dirichlet series. We achieve the result by carrying out the computation on the coalgebra ${\rm Cotor}$-groups of their pre-dual coalgebras. Using the same coalgebraic machinery, we further identify the Hochschild cohomology groups of an incidence algebra associated to a quiver with the ${\rm Ext}$-groups of the incidence algebra associated to a suspension of the quiver.
The main goal of this paper is to investigate the structure of Hopf algebras with the property that either its Jacobson radical is a Hopf ideal or its coradical is a subalgebra. In order to do that we define the Hochschild cohomology of an algebra in an abelian monoidal category. Then we characterize those algebras which have dimension less than or equal to 1 with respect to Hochschild cohomology. Now let us consider a Hopf algebra A such that its Jacobson radical J is a nilpotent Hopf ideal and H:=A/J is a semisimple algebra. By using our homological results, we prove that the canonical proje…
In this paper we investigate the functoriality properties of map-graded Hochschild complexes. We show that the category MAP of map-graded categories is naturally a stack over the category of small categories endowed with a certain Grothendieck topology of 3-covers. For a related topology of infinity-covers on the cartesian morphisms in MAP, we prove that taking map-graded Hochschild complexes defines a sheaf. From the functoriality related to "injections" between map-graded categories, we obtain Hochschild complexes "with support". We revisit Keller's arrow category argument from this perspect…
We define $H$-Galois extensions for $k$-linear categories and a Hopf algebra $H$ and prove the existence of a Grothendieck spectral sequence for Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology, related to this situation. This spectral sequence is multiplicative and for a $H$ a group algebra decomposes as a direct sum indexed by the set of conjugacy classes of the group. We also compute some Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology groups of categories with infinite associated quiver.
Analogous to a recent result of N. Kowalzig and U. Krähmer for twisted Calabi-Yau algebras, we show that the Hochschild cohomology ring of a Frobenius algebra with semisimple Nakayama automorphism is a Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra, thus generalizing a result of T.Tradler for finite dimensional symmetric algebras. We give a criterion to determine when a Frobenius algebra given by quiver with relations has semisimple Nakayama automorphism and apply it to some known classes of tame Frobenius algebras. We also provide ample examples including quantum complete intersections, finite dimensional Hopf a…
In this paper, we define the singular Hochschild cohomology groups $HH_{sg}^i(A, A)$ of an associative $k$-algebra $A$ as morphisms from $A$ to $A[i]$ in the singular category $D_{sg}(A\otimes_k A^{op})$ for $i\in \mathbb{Z}$. We prove that $HH_{sg}^*(A, A)$ has a Gerstenhaber algebra structure and in the case of a symmetric algebra $A$, $HH_{sg}^*(A, A)$ is a Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) algebra.
In this paper we prove that on a smooth algebraic variety the HKR-morphism twisted by the square root of the Todd genus gives an isomorphism between the sheaf of poly-vector fields and the sheaf of poly-differential operators, both considered as derived Gerstenhaber algebras. In particular we obtain an isomorphism between Hochschild cohomology and the cohomology of poly-vector fields which is compatible with the Lie bracket and the cupproduct. The latter compatibility is an unpublished result by Kontsevich. Our proof is set in the framework of Lie algebroids and so applies without modification…

In a classic paper, Gerstenhaber showed that first order deformations of an associative k-algebra A are controlled by the second Hochschild cohomology group of A. More generally, any n-parameter first order deformation of A gives, due to commutativity of the cup-product on Hochschild cohomology, a morphism from the graded algebra Sym(k^n) to Ext^*(A,A), the Ext-algebra in the category of A-bimodules. We prove that any extension of the n-parameter first order deformation of A to an INFINITE ORDER formal deformation provides a canonical `lift' of the graded algebra morphism above to a dg-algebra…
We construct an explicit projective bimodule resolution for the Leavitt path algebra of a row-finite quiver. We prove that the Leavitt path algebra of a row-countable quiver has Hochschild cohomolgical dimension at most one, that is, it is quasi-free in the sense of Cuntz-Quillen. The construction of the resolution relies on an explicit derivation of the Leavitt path algebra.
We define a morphism from the deformation complex of a Lie groupoid to the Hochschild complex of its convolution algebra, and show that it maps the class of a geometric deformation to the algebraic class of the induced deformation in Hochschild cohomology. Applied to the adiabatic groupoid, we show that the van Est map to deformation cohomology of Lie algebroids is induced by taking the classical limit of a quantization map on the dual of the Lie algebroid.
In order to study the Hochschild cohomology of triangular algebras $\mathcal T$, we construct a spectral sequence, whose terms are parametrized by the length of the trajectories of the quiver associated with $\mathcal T$, and which converges to $HH^*(\mathcal T)$. We explicit its components, and its differentials which are sums of cup products. In case $n=3$, we study some properties of the differential at level 2. Finally, we apply these results to the paths algebra of a quiver without oriented cycles, and link them with previous results on the incidence algebra of a simplicial complex, and m…
For an arbitrary proper DG algebra A (i.e. DG algebra with finite dimensional total cohomology) we introduce a pairing on the Hochschild homology of A and present an explicit formula for a Chern-type character of an arbitrary perfect A-module (the Chern characters take values in the Hochschild homology of A). The Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch formula in this context expresses the Euler characteristic of the Hom-complex between two perfect A-modules in terms of the pairing of their Chern characters. We mention two examples of proper DG algebras and the HRR formulas for them. The first example is Ring…
Coherent strings of composable morphisms play an important role in various important constructions in abstract stable homotopy theory (for example algebraic K-theory or higher Toda brackets) and in the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras (as representations of Dynkin quivers of type A). In a first step we will prove a strong comparison result relating composable strings of morphisms and coherent diagrams on cubes with support on a path from the initial to the final object. We observe that both structures are equivalent (by passing to higher analogues of mesh categories) to dis…
Let $\operatorname{CDG}_{cont}$ be the category whose objects are pairs $(A,\bar{\mathfrak{a}})$, where $A$ is a commutative DG-algebra and $\bar{\mathfrak{a}}\subseteq \mathrm{H}^0(A)$ is a finitely generated ideal, and whose morphisms $f:(A,\bar{\mathfrak{a}}) \to (B,\bar{\mathfrak{b}})$ are morphisms of DG-algebras $A \to B$, such that $(\mathrm{H}^0(f)(\bar{\mathfrak{a}})) \subseteq \bar{\mathfrak{b}}$. Letting $\mathrm{Ho}(\operatorname{CDG}_{cont})$ be its homotopy category, obtained by inverting adic quasi-isomorphisms, we construct a functor $\mathrm{L}Λ:\mathrm{Ho}(\operatorname{CDG}_…
