Let G be a complex symplectic group. We introduce a G x (C ^x) ^{l + 1}-variety N_{l}, which we call the l-exotic nilpotent cone. Then, we realize the Hecke algebra H of type C_n ^(1) with three parameters via equivariant algebraic K-theory in terms of the geometry of N_2. This enables us to establish a Deligne-Langlands type classification of "non-critical" simple H-modules. As applications, we present a character formula and multiplicity formulas of H-modules.
The main purpose of this paper is to identify the tempered modules for the affine Hecke algebra of type $C_n^{(1)}$ with arbitrary, non-root of unity, unequal parameters, in the exotic Deligne-Langlands correspondence in the sense of Kato. Our classification has several applications to the Weyl group module structure of the tempered Hecke algebra modules. In particular, we provide a geometric and a combinatorial classification of discrete series which contain the sign representation of the Weyl group. This last combinatorial classification was expected from the work of Heckman-Opdam and Sloote…
In the present article we define coverings of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties attached to a connected reductive group over a local field of characteristic $p > 0$. In the case of $\GL_2$, the unramified part of the local Langlands correspondence is realized in the $\ell$-adic cohomology of these varieties. We show this by giving a detailed comparison with the realization of local Langlands via cuspidal types by Bushnell-Henniart. All proofs are purely local.
The Deligne-Langlands correspondence parametrizes irreducible representations of the affine Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}^{\text{aff}}$ by certain perverse sheaves. We show that this can be lifted to an equivalence of triangulated categories. More precisely, we construct for each central character $χ$ of $\mathcal{H}^{\text{aff}}$ an equivalence of triangulated categories between a perfect derived category of dg-modules $D_{\text{perf}}(\mathcal{H}^{\text{aff}}/(\text{ker}(χ)) - \text{dgMod})$ and the triangulated category generated by the corresponding perverse sheaves. The main step in this con…
We describe an evolving and conjectural extension of the Langlands program for a class of nonlinear covering groups of algebraic origin studied by Brylinski-Deligne. In particular, we describe the construction of an L-group extension of such a covering group (over a split reductive group) due to Weissman, study some of its properties and discuss a variant of it. Using this L-group extension, we describe a local Langlands correspondence for covering (split) tori and unramified genuine representations, using work of Savin, McNamara, Weissman and W.W. Li. Finally, we define the notion of automorp…
Let $K$ be a local non-Archimedean field of positive characteristic and let $L$ be the degree-$n$ unramified extension of $K$. Via the local Langlands and Jacquet-Langlands correspondences, to each sufficiently generic multiplicative character of $L$, one can associate an irreducible representation of the multiplicative group of the central division algebra $D$ of invariant $1/n$ over $K$. In 1979, Lusztig proposed a cohomological construction of supercuspidal representations of reductive $p$-adic groups analogous to Deligne-Lusztig theory for finite reductive groups. In this paper we prove th…
In 1979, Lusztig proposed a cohomological construction of supercuspidal representations of reductive $p$-adic groups, analogous to Deligne-Lusztig theory for finite reductive groups. In this paper we establish a new instance of Lusztig's program. Precisely, let $X$ be the $p$-adic Deligne-Lusztig ind-scheme associated to a division algebra $D$ of invariant k/n over a non-Archimedean local field $K$. We study its homology groups by establishing a Deligne-Lusztig theory for families of finite unipotent groups that arise as subquotients of $D^\times$. The homology of $X$ induces a natural corresp…
Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field of residual characteristic $p$, $\ell\neq p$ be a prime number, and $\mathrm{W}_F$ the Weil group of $F$. We classify the indecomposable $\mathrm{W}_F$-semisimple Deligne $\overline{\mathbb{F}_\ell}$-representations in terms of the irreducible $\overline{\mathbb{F}_\ell}$-representations of $\mathrm{W}_F$, and extend constructions of Artin-Deligne local factors to this setting. Finally, we define a variant of the $\ell$-modular local Langlands correspondence which satisfies a preservation of local factors statement for generic representations.
In the setting of the geometric Langlands conjecture, we argue that the phenomenon of divergence at infinity on Bun_G (that is, the difference between $!$-extensions and $*$-extensions) is controlled, Langlands-dually, by the locus of semisimple $\check{G}$-local systems. To see this, we first rephrase the question in terms of Deligne-Lusztig duality and then study the Deligne-Lusztig functor DL_G^\spec acting on the spectral Langlands DG category IndCoh_N(LS_G). We prove that DL_G^\spec is the projection IndCoh_N(LS_G) \to QCoh(LS_G), followed by the action of a coherent D-module St_G which w…
We initiate the study of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties with arbitrarily deep level structure for general reductive groups over local fields. We prove that for GLn and its inner forms, Lusztig's semi-infinite Deligne-Lusztig construction is isomorphic to an affine Deligne-Lusztig variety at infinite level. We prove that their homology groups give geometric realizations of the local Langlands and Jacquet--Langlands correspondences in the setting that the Weil parameter is induced from a character of an unramified field extension. In particular, we resolve Lusztig's 1979 conjecture in this set…
Let $π$ be a simple supercuspidal representation of the symplectic group $Sp_{2l}(F)$, over a $p$-adic field $F$. In this work, we explicitly compute the Rankin-Selberg $γ$-factor of rank-$1$ twists of $π$. We then completely determine the Langlands parameter of $π$, if $p \neq 2$. In the case that $F = \mathbb{Q}_2$, we give a conjectural description of the functorial lift of $π$, with which, using a recent work of Bushnell and Henniart, one can obtain its Langlands parameter.
By the theory of Colmez and Fontaine, a de Rham representation of the Galois group of a local field roughly corresponds to a representation of the Weil-Deligne group equipped with an admissible filtration on the underlying vector space. Using a modification of the classical local Langlands correspondence, we associate with any pair consisting of a Weil-Deligne group representation and a type of a filtration (admissible or not) a specific locally algebraic representation of a general linear group. We advertise the conjecture that this pair comes from a de Rham representation if and only if the …
We firstly discuss properties of the L-group for Brylinski-Deligne (BD) extensions constructed by M. Weissman. Secondly, the Gindikin-Karpelevich (GK) formula for arbitrary BD extensions is computed and expressed in terms of naturally defined elements of the group. We show that the GK formula can be interpreted as Langlands-Shahidi type L-functions associated with the ajoint action of the L-group of the Levi on certain Lie algebras. As a consequence, the constant term of Eisenstein series for BD extensions could be expressed in terms of global (partial) Langlands-Shahidi type L-functions. In t…
In 1979 Lusztig proposed a conjectural construction of supercuspidal representations of reductive p-adic groups, which is similar to the well known construction of Deligne and Lusztig in the setting of finite reductive groups. We present a general method for explicitly calculating the representations arising from Lusztig's construction and illustrate it with several examples. The techniques we develop also provide background for the author's joint work with Weinstein on a purely local and explicit proof of the local Langlands correspondence.
Let T be a split torus over local or global function field. The theory of Brylinski-Deligne gives rise to the metaplectic central extensions of T by a finite cyclic group. The representation theory of these metaplectic tori has been developped to some extent in the works of M. Weissman, G. Savin, W. T. Gan, P. McNamara and others. In this paper we propose a geometrization of this theory in the framework of the geometric Langlands program (in the everywhere nonramified case).
Let E/F be a quadratic extension of p-adic fields. The local Langlands correspondence establishes a bijection between n-dimensional Frobenius semisimple representations of the Weil-Deligne group of E and smooth, irreducible representations of GL(n,E). We reinterpret this bijection in the setting of the Weil restriction of scalars Res(GL(n),E/F), and show that the Asai L-function and epsilon factor on the analytic side match up with the expected Artin L-function and epsilon factor on the Galois side. This paper is based off of the author's forthcoming doctoral thesis.
We prove that Kaletha's local Langlands correspondence for regular supercuspidal representations gives the classical local Jacquet--Langlands correspondence due to Deligne--Kazhdan--Vigneras and Badulescu. As in a former joint paper with Oi, where a similar result is proved for the local Langlands correspondence for the general linear group, the key ingredients in our proof are the work of Bushnell--Henniart explicitly describing the local Jacquet--Langlands correspondence for essentially tame supercuspidal representations and its reinterpretation due to Tam in terms of Langlands--Shelstad's \…
Let $G$ be a symplectic group over a nonarchimedean local field of characteristic zero and odd residual characteristic. Given an irreducible cuspidal representation of G, we determine its Langlands parameter (equivalently, its Jordan blocks in the language of Moeglin) in terms of the local data from which the representation is explicitly constructed, up to a possible unramified twist in each block of the parameter. We deduce a Ramification Theorem for $G$, giving a bijection between the set of endo-parameters for $G$ and the set of restrictions to wild inertia of discrete Langlands parameters …
We analyze the asymptotic behavior of certain twisted orbital integrals arising from the study of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. The main tools include the Base Change Fundamental Lemma and $q$-analogues of the Kostant partition functions. As an application we prove a conjecture of Miaofen Chen and Xinwen Zhu, relating the set of irreducible components of an affine Deligne-Lusztig variety modulo the action of the $σ$-centralizer group to the Mirkovic-Vilonen basis of a certain weight space of a representation of the Langlands dual group.
We adapt the conjectural local Langlands parameterization to split metaplectic groups over local fields. When $\tilde G$ is a central extension of a split connected reductive group over a local field (arising from the framework of Brylinski and Deligne), we construct a dual group $\mathbf{\tilde G}^\vee$ and an L-group ${}^L \mathbf{\tilde G}^\vee$ as group schemes over ${\mathbb Z}$. Such a construction leads to a definition of Weil-Deligne parameters (Langlands parameters) with values in this L-group, and to a conjectural parameterization of the irreducible genuine representations of $\tilde…
In this paper, we give an explicit determination of the theta lifting for symplectic-orthogonal and unitary dual pairs over a nonarchimedean field $F$ of characteristic $0$. We determine when theta lifts of tempered representations are nonzero, and determine the theta lifts in terms of the local Langlands correspondence.
Let $G$ be a connected semisimple Lie group. There are two natural duality constructions that assign to it the Langlands dual group $G^\vee$ and the Poisson-Lie dual group $G^*$. The main result of this paper is the following relation between these two objects: the integral cone defined by the cluster structure and the Berenstein-Kazhdan potential on the double Bruhat cell $G^{\vee; w_0, e} \subset G^\vee$ is isomorphic to the integral Bohr-Sommerfeld cone defined by the Poisson structure on the partial tropicalization of $K^* \subset G^*$ (the Poisson-Lie dual of the compact form $K \subset G…
Using theta correspondence, we obtain a classification of irreducible representations of an arbitrary even orthogonal group (i.e. the local Langlands correspondence) by deducing it from the local Langlands correspondence for symplectic groups due to Arthur. Moreover,we show that our classifications coincide with the local Langlands correspondence established by Arthur and formulated precisely by Atobe-Gan for quasi-split even orthogonal groups.
The local Langlands correspondence for GL(n) of a non-Archimedean local field $F$ parametrizes irreducible admissible representations of $GL(n,F)$ in terms of representations of the Weil-Deligne group $WD_F$ of $F$. The correspondence, whose existence for $p$-adic fields was proved in joint work of the author with R. Taylor, and then more simply by G. Henniart, is characterized by its preservation of salient properties of the two classes of representations. The article reviews the strategies of the two proofs. Both the author's proof with Taylor and Henniart's proof are global and rely ultimat…
Harris and Taylor proved that the supercuspidal part of the cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower realizes both the local Langlands and Jacquet-Langlands correspondences, as conjectured by Carayol. Recently, Boyer computed the remaining part of the cohomology and exhibited two defects : first, the representations of GL\_d which appear are of a very particular and restrictive form ; second, the Langlands correspondence is not realized anymore. In this paper, we study the cohomology complex in a suitable equivariant derived category, and show how it encodes Langlands correspondance for all elliptic…
In this paper, we explicitly compute the semisimplifications of all Jacquet modules of irreducible representations with generic L-parameters of p-adic split odd special orthogonal groups or symplectic groups. Our computation represents them in terms of linear combinations of standard modules with rational coefficients. The main ingredient of this computation is to apply Moeglin's explicit construction of local A-packets to tempered L-packets.
Let $G$ be a $p$-adic group that splits over an unramified extension. We decompose $Rep_Λ^{0}(G)$, the abelian category of smooth level $0$ representations of $G$ with coefficients in $Λ=\overline{\mathbb{Q}}_{\ell}$ or $\overline{\mathbb{Z}}_{\ell}$, into a product of subcategories indexed by inertial Langlands parameters. We construct these categories via systems of idempotents on the Bruhat-Tits building and Deligne-Lusztig theory. Then, we prove compatibilities with parabolic induction and restriction functors and the local Langlands correspondence.
In this paper, we completely describe the Howe correspondence for the dual pairs from the title over a nonarchimedean local field of characteristic zero. More specifically, for every irreducible admissible representation of these groups, we find its first occurrence index in the theta correspondence and we describe, in terms of their Langlands parameters, the small theta lifts on all levels.
The formal degree conjecture and the root number conjecture are verified with respect to supercuspidal representations of $Sp_{2n}(F)$ and $L$-parameters associated with tamely ramified extension $K/F$ of degree $2n$. The supercuspidal representation is constructed as a compact induction from an irreducible unitary representation of the hyper special compact group $Sp_{2n}(O_F)$, which is explicitly constructed, based upon the general theory developed by the author, by $K$ and certain character $θ$ of the multiplicative group $K^{\times}$. $L$-parameter is constructed by the data $\{K,θ\}$ by …
We consider the symplectic group $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}$ defined over a $p$-adic field $F$, where $p=2$. We prove that every simple supercuspidal representation (in the sense of Gross--Reeder) of $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(F)$ corresponds to an irreducible $L$-parameter under the local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}$ established by Arthur.
Let $F$ be a non archimedean local field of residual characteristic $p$ and $\ell$ a prime number different from $p$. Let $\mathrm{V}$ denote Vignéras' $\ell$-modular local Langlands correspondence between irreducible $\ell$-modular representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$ and $n$-dimensional $\ell$-modular Deligne representations of the Weil group $\mathrm{W}_F$. In a previous work, enlarging the space of parameters to Deligne representations with non necessarily nilpotent operators, we proposed a modification of the correspondence of Vignéras into a correspondence $\mathrm{C}$ compatible with t…
In this paper we gives the Langlands parameters of Langlands' packets of discrete series using the twisted endoscopy as explained by Arthur; this holds for orthogonal, symplectic, unitary and G-Spin groups and gives the most simple proof available. We have assume that the groups are quasi-split but this is just for simplicity. The proof explaines first what is the classification from the representation's theory point of view; this gives the Langlands' packets purely in terms of representation theory. And then using the theory of L-function of Shahidi and the doubling method of Rallis and Piate…
Given a split classical group of symplectic type and a split general linear group over a local field $F$, we use Langlands-Shahidi method to construct their Rankin-Selberg local $γ$-factors and prove the corresponding analytic stability for generic representations. The idea generalizes the work of J. Cogdell, F. Shahidi, T.-L. Tsai in 2017 and D. She in 2023 in the study of asymptotic behaviors of partial Bessel functions. Different from the known cases, suppose $P=MN$ is the maximal parabolic subgroup with Levi component $M\simeq \mathrm{GL}_r\times\mathrm{Sp}_{2m}$ that defines the local fac…
We give a functorial construction of the genus zero chiral algebras of class $\mathcal{S}$, that is, the vertex algebras corresponding to the theory of class $\mathcal{S}$ associated with genus zero pointed Riemann surfaces via the 4d/2d duality discovered by Beem, Lemos, Liendo, Peelaers, Rastelli and van Rees in physics. We show that there is a unique family of vertex algebras satisfying the required conditions and show that they are all simple and conformal. In fact, our construction works for any complex semisimple group G that is not necessarily simply laced. Furthermore, we show that the…
Assume $G$ is a finite symplectic group $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(q)$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of odd characteristic. We describe the action of the automorphism group $\mathrm{Aut}(G)$ on the set $\mathrm{Irr}(G)$ of ordinary irreducible characters of $G$. This description relies on the equivariance of Deligne--Lusztig induction with respect to automorphisms. We state a version of this equivariance which gives a precise way to compute the automorphism on the corresponding Levi subgroup; this may be of independent interest. As an application we prove that the global condition in Späth's crite…
Using the results of J. Arthur on the representation theory of classical groups with additional work by Colette Moeglin and its relation with representations of affine Hecke algebras established by the author, we show that the category of smooth complex representations of a split $p$-adic classical group and its pure inner forms is naturally decomposed into subcategories which are equivalent to a tensor product of categories of unipotent representations of classical groups (in the sense of G. Lusztig). A statement of this kind had been conjecture by G. Lusztig. All classical groups (general li…
Recently we propose a class of infinite-dimensional integral representations of classical gl(n+1)-Whittaker functions and local Archimedean local L-factors using two-dimensional topological field theory framework. The local Archimedean Langlands duality was identified in this setting with the mirror symmetry of the underlying topological field theories. In this note we introduce elementary analogs of the Whittaker functions and the Archimedean L-factors given by U(n+1)-equivariant symplectic volumes of appropriate Kahler U(n+1)-manifolds. We demonstrate that the functions thus defined have a d…
This paper is a sequel to math.RT/0601155. Let G be a complex symplectic group. In math.RT/0601155, we constructed a certain G-variety N = N_1, which we call the (1-) exotic nilpotent cone. In this paper, we study the set of G-orbits of the variety N. It turns out that the variety N gives a variant of the Springer correspondence for the Weyl group of type C, but shares a similar flavor with that of type A case. (I.e. there appears no non-trivial local system and the correspondence is bijective.) As an application, we present one sufficient condition for the bijectivity of our exotic Deligne-La…
In a previous paper, the first and third authors gave an explicit realization of the geometric Langlands correspondence for hypergeometric sheaves, considered as $\textrm{GL}_n$-local systems. Certain hypergeometric local systems admit a symplectic or orthogonal structure, which can be viewed as $\check{G}$-local systems, for a classical group $\check{G}$. This article aims to realize the geometric Langlands correspondence for these $\check{G}$-local systems. We study this problem from two aspects. In the first approach, we define the hypergeometric automorphic data for a classical group $G$ i…
We develop the local theory of the generalized doubling method for the $m$-fold central extension $Sp_{2n}^{(m)}$ of Matsumoto of the symplectic group. We define local $γ$-, $L$- and $ε$-factors for pairs of genuine representations of $Sp_{2n}^{(m)}\times\widetilde{GL}_k$ and prove their fundamental properties, in the sense of Shahidi. Here $\widetilde{GL}_k$ is the central extension of $GL_k$ arising in the context of the Langlands--Shahidi method for covering groups of $Sp_{2n}\times GL_k$. We then construct the complete $L$-function for cuspidal representations and prove its global function…
In an earlier paper, we considered several restriction problems in the representation theory of classical groups over local and global fields. Assuming the Langlands-Vogan parameterization of irreducible representations, we formulated precise conjectures for the solutions of these restriction problems. In the local case, our conjectural answer is given in terms of Langlands parameters and certain natural symplectic root numbers associated to them. In the global case, the conjectural answer is expressed in terms of the central critical value or derivative of a global $L$-function. In this paper…
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field with finite residue field. Let $\mathcal{A}^{et}_n(F)$ be the collection of isomorphism classes of essentially tame irreducible supercuspidal representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$ studied by Bushnell-Henniart. It is known that we can parameterize $\mathcal{A}^{et}_n(F)$ by the collection $P_n(F)$ of equivalence classes of admissible pairs $(E, ξ)$ consisting of a tamely ramified extension $E/F$ of degree $n$ and an $F$-admissible character $ξ$ of $E^\times$. We are interested in a finite symplectic module $V = V(ξ)$ arising from the construction of the …
We construct and study a closed, two-dimensional, quasi-topological (0,2) gauged sigma model with target space a smooth G-manifold, where G is any compact and connected Lie group. When the target space is a flag manifold of simple G, and the gauge group is a Cartan subgroup thereof, the perturbative model describes, purely physically, the recently formulated mathematical theory of "Twisted Chiral Differential Operators". This paves the way, via a generalized T-duality, for a natural physical interpretation of the geometric Langlands correspondence for simply-connected, simple, complex Lie grou…
We incorporate covers of quasisplit reductive groups into the Langlands program, defining an L-group associated to such a cover. We work with all covers that arise from extensions of quasisplit reductive groups by $\mathbf{K}_2$ -- the class studied by Brylinski and Deligne. We use this L-group to parameterize genuine irreducible representations in many contexts, including covers of split tori, unramified representations, and discrete series for double covers of semisimple groups over $\mathbb R$. An appendix surveys torsors and gerbes on the étale site, as they are used in the construction of…
