In math.GR/0510298, we showed that every loop isotopic to an F-quasigroup is a Moufang loop. Here we characterize, via two simple identities, the class of F-quasigroups which are isotopic to groups. We call these quasigroups FG-quasigroups. We show that FG-quasigroups are linear over groups. We then use this fact to describe their structure. This gives us, for instance, a complete description of the simple FG-quasigroups. Finally, we show an equivalence of equational classes between pointed FG-quasigroups and central generalized modules over a particular ring.
It is proved that any left F-quasigroup is isomorphic to the direct product of a left F-quasigroup with a unique idempotent element and isotope of a special form of a left distributive quasigroup. The similar theorems are proved for right F-quasigroups, left and right SM- and E-quasigroups. Information on simple quasigroups from these quasigroup classes is given, for example, finite simple F-quasigroup is a simple group or a simple medial quasigroup. It is proved that any left F-quasigroup is isotopic to the direct product of a group and a left S-loop. Some properties of loop isotopes of F-qua…
Some varieties of groupoids and quasigroups generated by linear-bivariate polynomials $P(x,y)=a+bx+cy$ over the ring $\mathbb{Z}_n$ are studied. Necessary and sufficient conditions for such groupoids and quasigroups to obey identities which involve one, two, three (e.g. Bol-Moufang type) and four variables w.r.t. $a$, $b$ and $c$ are established. Necessary and sufficient conditions for such groupoids and quasigroups to obey some inverse properties w.r.t. $a$, $b$ and $c$ are also established. This class of groupoids and quasigroups are found to belong to some varieties of groupoids and quasigr…
Any Neumann quasigroup $(Q, \cdot)$ (quasigroup with Neumann identity $ x \cdot(yz \cdot yx) = z$ is called Neumann quasigroup) can be presented in the form $x\cdot y = x-y$, where $(Q, +)$ is an abelian group. Automorphism group of Neumann quasigroup coincides with the group $Aut(Q, +)$. Any Schweizer quasigroup (quasigroup with Schweizer identity $xy \cdot xz = zy$ is called Schweizer quasigroup) is a Neumann quasigroup and vice versa. Any Neumann quasigroup is a GA-quasigroup.
A-nuclei (groups of regular permutations) of a quasigroup are studied. A quasigroup is A-nuclear if and only if it is group isotope. Any quasigroup with permutation medial or paramedial identity is an abelian group isotope. Definition of A-center of a quasigroup is given. A quasigroup is A-central if and only if it is abelian group isotope. If a quasigroup is central in Belyavskaya-Smith sense, then it is A-central. Conditions when A-nucleus define normal congruence of a quasigroup are established, conditions normality of nuclei of some inverse quasigroups are given. Notice, definition of A-nu…
By a result of Sharma, right Bol quasigroups are obtainable from right Bol loops via an involutive automorphism. We prove that the class of AG-groups, introduced by Kamran, is obtained via the same construction from abelian groups. We further introduce a new class of Bol* quasigroups, which turns out to correspond, as above, to the class of groups. Sharma's correspondence allows an efficient implementation and we present some enumeration results for the above three classes.
The class of all quasigroups is covered by six classes: the class of all asymmetric quasigroups and five varieties of quasigroups (commutative, left symmetric, right symmetric, semi-symmetric and totally symmetric). Each of these classes is characterized by symmetry groups of its quasigroups. In this article, criteria of belonging of group isotopes to each of these classes are found, including the corollaries for linear, medial and central quasigroups etc. It is established that an isotope of a noncommutative group is either semi-symmetric or asymmetric, each non-medial T-quasigroup is asymmet…
The variety of quasigroups satisfying the identity $(xy)(zy)=xz$ mirrors the variety of groups, and offers a new look at groups and their multiplication tables. Such quasigroups are constructed from a group using right division instead of multiplication. Their multiplication tables consist of circulant blocks which have additional symmetries and have a concise presentation. These tables are a reincarnation of the group matrices which Frobenius used to give the first account of group representation theory. Our results imply that every group matrix may be written as a block circulant matrix and …
Right groups are direct products of right zero semigroups and groups and they play a significant role in the semilattice decomposition theory of semigroups. Right groups can be characterized as associative right quasigroups (magmas in which left translations are bijective). If we do not assume associativity we get right quasigroups which are not necessarily representable as direct products of right zero semigroups and quasigroups. To obtain such a representation, we need stronger assumptions which lead us to the notion of \emph{right product quasigroup}. If the quasigroup component is a (one-s…
In the year 1944 R. H. Bruck has described a very general construction method which he called the extension of a set by a quasigroup. We use it to construct a class of examples for LF-quasigroups in which the image of the map $e(x)=x\backslash x$ is a group. More generally, we consider the variety of quasigroups which is defined by the property that the map $e$ is an endomorphism and its subvariety where the image of the map $e$ is a group. We characterize quasigroups belonging to these varieties using their Bruck decomposition with respect to the map $e$.
In this paper the number of isomorphism classes of the right transversals of the symmetric group $Σ_{n-1}$ in the symmetric group $Σ_n$ is calculated. This result together with the techniques employed along the paper may be used to go forward in the study and classification of the subgroups with a certain number of isomorphism classes of transversals in the group.
In groups with involution a nonassociative product of elements is defined, which leads to the definition of a certain type of quasigroups. These quasigroups are represented by square tables of complex numbers, with inverses, which differ from the matrix representations of groups in the rule of performing the product of two tables. The row-by-column product of two matrices in representations of groups is replaced by the column-by-column product, which is called the cracovian product, in representations of the defined type of quasigroups. The matrices undergoing the column-by-column product are …
We enumerate three classes of non-medial quasigroups of order $243=3^5$ up to isomorphism. There are $17004$ non-medial trimedial quasigroups of order $243$ (extending the work of Kepka, Bénéteau and Lacaze), $92$ non-medial distributive quasigroups of order $243$ (extending the work of Kepka and Němec), and $6$ non-medial distributive Mendelsohn quasigroups of order $243$ (extending the work of Donovan, Griggs, McCourt, Opršal and Stanovský). The enumeration technique is based on affine representations over commutative Moufang loops, on properties of automorphism groups of commutative Moufang…
The paper deals with quasigroups having a trivial group of automorphisms and a trivial group of autotopisms. Examples of such quasigroups and methods of their verification are given.
We recall the notion of Hopf quasigroups introduced previously. We construct a bicrossproduct Hopf quasigroup $kM\bicross k(G)$ from every group $X$ with a finite subgroup $G\subset X$ and IP quasigroup transversal $M\subset X$ subject to certain conditions. We identify the octonions quasigroup $G_O$ as transversal in an order 128 group $X$ with subgroup $Z_2^3$ and hence obtain a Hopf quasigroup $kG_O\lcocross k(Z_2^3)$ as a particular case of our construction.
We study finite-dimensional nonassociative algebras. We prove the implicit function theorem for such algebras. This allows us to establish a correspondence between such algebras and quasigroups, in the spirit of classical correspondence between divisible torsion-free nilpotent groups and rational nilpotent Lie algebras. We study the related questions of the commensurators of nilpotent groups, filiform Lie algebras of maximal solvability length and partially ordered algebras.
Hom-groups are nonassociative generalizations of groups where the unitality and associativity are twisted by a map. We show that a Hom-group (G, α) is a pointed idempotent quasigroup (pique). We use Cayley table of quasigroups to introduce some examples of Hom-groups. Introducing the notions of Hom-subgroups and cosets we prove Lagrange's theorem for finite Hom-groups. This states that the order of any Hom-subgroup H of a finite Hom-group G divides the order of G. We linearize Hom-groups to obtain a class of nonassociative Hopf algebras called Hom-Hopf algebras. As an application of our result…
Idempotent left nondegenerate solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation are in one-to-one correspondence with twisted Ward left quasigroups, which are left quasigroups satisfying the identity $(x*y)*(x*z)=(y*y)*(y*z)$. Using combinatorial properties of the Cayley kernel and the squaring mapping, we prove that a twisted Ward left quasigroup of prime order is either permutational or a quasigroup. Up to isomorphism, all twisted Ward quasigroups $(X,*)$ are obtained by twisting the left division operation in groups (that is, they are of the form $x*y=ψ(x^{-1}y)$ for a group $(X,\cdot)$ and its automor…
Our paper deals with the investigation of extensions of commutative groups by loops so that the quasigroups that result in the multiplication between cosets of the kernel subgroup are T-quasigroups. We limit our study to extensions in which the quasigroups determining the multiplication are linear functions without constant term, called linear abelian extensions. We characterize constructively such extensions with left-, right-, or inverse properties using a general construction according to an equivariant group action principle. We show that the obtained constructions can be simplified for or…
We study P-groupoids that arise from certain decompositions of complete graphs. We show that left distributive P-groupoids are distributive, quasigroups. We characterize P-groupoids when the corresponding decomposition is a Hamiltonian decomposition for complete graphs of odd, prime order. We also study a specific example of a P-quasigroup constructed from cyclic groups of odd order. We show such P-quasigroups have characteristic left and right multiplication groups, as well as the right multiplication group is isomorphic to the dihedral group.
It is known that locally compact groups approximable by finite ones are unimodular, but this condition is not sufficient, for example, the simple Lie groups are not approximable by finite ones as topological groups. In this paper the approximations of locally compact groups by more general finite algebraic systems are investigated. It is proved that the approximation of locally compact groups by finite semigroups is equivalent to approximation by finite groups and thus not all locally compact groups are approximable by finite semigroups. We prove that any locally compact group is approximable …
This is a companion to our lectures GAP and loops, to be delivered at the Workshops Loops 2007, Prague, Czech Republic. In the lectures we introduce the GAP package LOOPS, describe its capabilities, and explain in detail how to use it. In this paper we first outline the philosophy behind the package and its main features, and then we focus on three particular computational problems: construction of loop isomorphisms, classification of small Frattini Moufang loops of order 64, and the search for loops of nilpotency class higher than two with an abelian inner mapping group. In particular, this i…
We determine the structure of biquasigroups (Q,^,*) satisfying varations of Polonijo's Ward double quasigroup identity (x^z)*(y^z)=x*y, including those that are linear over a group.
Power graphs of both groups and semigroups have been widely studied. While the power graph of a quasigroup can be defined analogously to that of a group, power graphs of quasigroups and loops have thus far been little studied. In this paper we begin transferring results on the power graphs of groups to the context of loops by addressing a question posed by Peter Cameron: if two Moufang loops have isomorphic undirected power graphs, must they have isomorphic directed power graphs? It is known that two groups with isomorphic undirected power graphs must have isomorphic directed power graphs. We …
The first open case of the Brown, Erdős, Sós conjecture is equivalent to the following; For every $c>0$ there is a threshold $n_0$ so that if a quasigroup has order $n\geq n_0$ then for every subset of triples of the form $(a,b,ab),$ denoted by $S,$ if $|S|\geq cn^2$ then there is a seven-element subset of the quasigroup which spans at least four triples of the selected subset $S.$ In this paper we prove the conjecture for finite groups.
In this article we determine the number of isotopic classes of transversals of a subgroup of order 2 in $ D_{2n}$ ($n$ is a positive odd integer greater than 1), where isotopism classes are formed with respect to the induced right loop structures. We also determine the cyclic index of the Affine group Aff$(1,p^{2})$, where $p$ is an odd prime.
We investigate the multiplication group of a special class of quasigroup called AG-group. We prove some interesting results such as: the multiplication group of an AG-group of order n is non-abelian group of order 2n and its left section is an abelian group of order n. The inner mapping group of an AG-group of any order is a cyclic group of order 2.
Let $G$ be a finite group and $H$ be a subgroup of $G$. In this paper, we prove that if $G$ is a finite nilpotent group and $H$ a subgroup of $G$, then $H$ is normal in $G$ if and only if all normalized right transversals of $H$ in $G$ are isotopic, where the isotopism classes are formed with respect to induced right loop structures. We have also determined the number isotopy classes of transversals of a subgroup of order 2 in $D_{2p}$, the dihedral group of order $2p$, where $p$ is an odd prime.
Let $G$ be a finite group and $C_2$ the cyclic group of order 2. Consider the 8 multiplicative operations $(x,y)\mapsto (x^iy^j)^k$, where $i$, $j$, $k\in\{-1, 1\}$. Define a new multiplication on $G\times C_2$ by assigning one of the above 8 multiplications to each quarter $(G\times\{i\})\times(G\times\{j\})$, for $i$, $j\in C_2$. We describe all situations in which the resulting quasigroup is a Bol loop. This paper also corrects an error in P. Vojtěchovský: On the uniqueness of loops $M(G,2)$.
Using the relations between the theory of differentiable Bol loops and the theory of affine symmetric spaces we classify all connected differentiable Bol loops having an at most $9$-dimensional semi-simple Lie group as the group topologically generated by their left translations. We show that all these Bol loops are isotopic to direct products of Bruck loops of hyperbolic type or to Scheerer extensions of Lie groups by Bruck loops of hyperbolic type.
